    • @davebowman6497
      @davebowman6497 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well, the title was "..most INFLUENTAL..." (not "biggest fanbase"). With that, there is essentially two criteria tha should go into the ranking:
      - Bands/artists that were essential for the forming of the genre in the late 1960s, and
      - Bands that later contributed to a MAJOR change or evolution of the genre.
      Much as I have big respect for Rush, they do not qualify high wrt any of those.
      In no particular order, 6 out of the top 10 must include:
      King Crimson, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Yes, Genesis.
      All of them definitively rank higher than Rush.
      Debatable absentees: Frank Zappa, Focus.
      Appreciated absentees: Kansas.
      Sorry, all 'Merkans. You created blues, country and good old rock'n'roll, and the evoled that into a multitude of lovely genres. Everything rock/pop stands on the shoulders of that!
      But prog rock is essentially a Europeean thing..

    Focus belong in the top 10! not sure Rush are a proper prog rock band. they sure have some elements of it in their music but to me they are a straight ahead rock band. also Moody Blues as much as i love them (one of my all time favourite bands) are psychedelic rock that is definately a different sub genre. otherwise most important ones have been covered

    • @BackingTrackCenter
      @BackingTrackCenter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get that you think Focus deserves to be in the top 10, but lists are always a matter of personal taste. As for Rush, even if you see them as more of a straight-ahead rock band, a lot of people consider their work, especially with Neil Peart, to have significant progressive elements. And while the Moody Blues are known for a more psychedelic sound, they also have some prog elements in their music. Progressive rock is a pretty flexible genre, and opinions can vary. Pink Floyd which I love and listen almost every day is one of the first British psychedelic groups. They slowly departured from it through the period of "space rock" and became somehow progressive rock band after releasing "Ummagumma" (November 1969) and "Atom Heart Mother" (October 1970 ). With all due respect for Pink Floyd , position number 1 belongs to King Crimson because their album "In The Court Of The Crimson King" ( October 1969) is one of the most influential of the progressive rock genre. It is regarded as first mature and the greatest progressive rock albums of all time.
    Rush ( number 2 on your list above Yes and King Crimson ) moved towards progressive rock after Neil Peart joined the band on July 29, 1974 . Drummer Neil Peart credited the adventurous and innovative style of Michael Giles (drummer of King Crimson) as an influence on his own approach to percussion.
    Rush was also influenced by Yes ( influenced by King Crimson), Pink Floyd , Jethro Tull and Genesis (P.Gabriel and S.Hackett era).
    King Crimson not only influenced prog rock but for much wider spectrum of contemporary music beyond general rock genre.
    Thus , your inconsistent list reflects only your taste of music and is far cry from reality.
    Anyway , I am not a fan of contestation in music. Music is diversified as much as minds of human beings. Everybody has the right to his/her choice of music creation or admiration . My advise is: Please avoid any pretentious titles.
    Thus , to be honest ,the proper title your presentation should read : The 20 Most Influential Progressive Rock Bands According to Me .

    • @BackingTrackCenter
      @BackingTrackCenter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for your detailed comment! It's clear that you've given a lot of thought to the history and impact of these bands. The list is subjective and reflects a perspective on the most influential bands in progressive rock as a whole, not only focusing on the musical influence exerted on other bands, but also the power to influence people to begin to appreciate progressive rock. Your points about King Crimson and Rush add valuable context to the discussion. As you mentioned, music is deeply personal, and everyone's experience and taste shape their opinions.
