@@BackingTrackCenter SLADE was with 21 top twenty hits, six of them number 1, four number 2 and two number 3, one of the most successful British bands of the 1970s.
A list based on total album sales would look quite different. Zep has something like 250M to 300M worldwide. Pink Floyd probably something close to that as well.
Slade could actually be tied with Jethro Tull on this list, and we'll include them in a future reissue. Status Quo doesn't appear on the Billboard Hot 100™. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@ Slade were one of the bands that appeared on top of the pops the most, status quo always had a top ten album in the seventies, they had one number one single which was “down down” which was nicked by bay city rollers with “bye bye baby”. Status quo opened live aid and appeared on the original band aid single “do they know it’s Christmas time”. even if they aren’t on the “hot 100” list they need recognition, plus they used more than 3 chords to dismiss the popular comment which was joked about by the band themselves, take a look at Rick Parfitt’s rhythm playing and Francis Rossi’s lead lines as well as their lyrics, not just the popular tracks, it’s a mystery why the haven’t been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.
@@davidlelkington The list is based on British bands who had the most successful hits in the US, not the UK. If it was rock bands that had the biggest hits in the UK then they would surely be up there.
I was so happy when the Moody Blues came up! They where so popular in there time that its hard to imagine why they didnt have the staying power as the Who did for excample.
True, the Moody Blues had an incredible moment! Maybe the difference lies in their more experimental style, and they didn't keep up with market expectations. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@BackingTrackCenter True. Its a very album heavy band with few hit singles. Their 1971 album "every good boy deserves favour" peaked at nr 1 in the UK sharts whithout any single being released. I think it worked for them in the 70s but worked against them in the long run.
The Moodies, like Led Zep, were more of an album orientated band. And by the way how on earth did the Clash and Sex Pistols get in there? Not around long enough to be considered for this list.
@IndineraFallz Surely even more impressive that their music lives on and they gain new fans all the time. The few from the past outstrip the many from the present.
Where is Yes, Asia, Foreigner, ELO, Wings, Oasis, Duran Duran & Depeche Mode?? #20 Clash had only 11 points and I'm pretty sure most if not all of these bands all had at least 11 points. And, don't tell me Foreigner isn't British if Fleetwood Mac is British. And, don't tell me Duran Duran & Depeche Mode are not rock if The Cure & Tears For Fears are rock. To commenters who are complaining about U2, they are Irish.
As a trainee and then fully hired stage electrician in late 60s throughout 70s & 80s london base and now in my late 70s yrs old retiree of all i witnessed only one often particular UKs band are exposure energetic explosive live!!
YES is one of my favorite bands. What information do you have about YES's performance on the Billboard Hot 100™? It's only natural that a band with YES's level of experimentation wouldn't perform well on the charts.
Wow, lucky enough to have seen 13 of those bands, 14 if I included the Page/ Plant your a few years back. Tull I only saw an acoustic tour, but still amazing at a small venue in Edmonton. Fleetwood Mac, I saw the Rumors your. I'm grateful to have seen what I have. Of that, I've seen The Who the most. On another note, I own albums by every band on that chart. Thanks
Surprised Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin are on this list as they are not regarded as singles bands in their native UK, though Floyd and Tull did have the odd hit. I gues they must have released a few more in the States. I imagine if this was on album sales they would be much nearer the top with with possibly only the Beatles and The Stones higher, I suspect David Bowie, Yes and Sabath might appear in an album chart as well. Perhaps you could do one? Would be interesting.
Your suggestion is great. Let's prepare a more complete list with more comprehensive criteria so we can have a more accurate idea of the success of these groups. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a Merry Christmas!
Why are British bands based on billboard chart positions? First billboard is a US system for the US charts, and second chart positions is a vague way of gauging success. The ranking of British bands in this video has very little correlation to total record sales, which is a far better indication of success.
How about doing a list of bands with the most number of records sold, in Singles & LP's Then as a supplement those with the greatest downloads of music videos!
Where are the Quo? They have been around since the 60's and are still going strong today or don't you like them? It's always the Beatles and there are people who AREN'T Beatles fans- i'm one of those fans

Supertramp really were a flash in the pan, but there was a point in the 70s when they were constantly on the radio. Ditto Oasis 20 or so years later. Sabbath, Priest and Maiden sold millions of albums but got very little airplay. AC-DC is technically an Aussie band but they made their fortune in Europe and the UK.
As regards biggest albums sales by British or Irish artists in the USA - this is you top 15 15. Enya 14. Adele 13. Ozzy Osbourne 12. Phil Collins 11. Def Leppard 10. Rod Stewart 9. Eric Clapton 8. Queen 7. U2 6.. Fleetwood Mac 5. The Rolling Stones 4. Pink Floyd 3. Elton John. 2. Led Zeppelin 1. The Beatles
Hay bandas fundamentales que no están en la nómina: The Hollies, King Crimson, Yes, Caravan, Iron Maiden, The Animals, solo por mencionar a algunos grupos.
Is this like by singles, because I know that Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best-selling bands of all time respectively. I do like all these bands though.
The Hollies, com esse critério, teria 142 pontos (1 Nº 1 - 18 Top 10 - 21 Top 100 = 142 pontos) - Estaria, portanto, em 3º lugar. "The Hollies would have 142 points (1 Nº 1 - 18 Top 10 - 21 Top 100 = 142 points) - They would therefore be in 3rd place."
What about Slade , the best sellers in UK in the seventies ? I understand the purpose of that list and it's ok for me. All the bands were very good. Good work. !

A list based on total album sales would look quite different. Zep has something like 250M to 300M worldwide. Pink Floyd probably something close to that as well.
Exactly. We will soon prepare a list based on album sales. Thanks for commenting. Happy New Year!
Guess metal doesn’t sell but my 2 favorite bands that are British is Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Two bands that are very well rated on the Billboard 200™ chart, which refers to album sales. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Good to see deep purple there
I liked that too! 🤗
Nice Video. I think it‘s also interessant the British Bands with the most selling Albums in US
In the next video we will explore album sales in depth. Thanks for commenting!
Genesis the best band 😊 OK, the Beatles are very very good too 😅
Surprised the Animals didn’t earn a spot. They had a lot of singles that charted well over a long period. Oh well. Fame is fleeting.
Slade? Status quo?
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful day also my favorite bands is The Rolling Stones The Clash to be honest and also lead Zeppelin queen 😊❤

Where is Status Quo with 60 chart hits with 1 on top and 22 top 10?
in the UK
Just shows how fantastic 1960s music was. The Stones and Beatles outstripping everything that has come since.
not a very dense competition back then
@IndineraFallz Surely even more impressive that their music lives on and they gain new fans all the time.
That's right, in a future re-edition of this list we may include some of the great bands you mentioned. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Billboard is American no more needs to be said, thank you for all your hard work putting out the video
That's right, the list is American. We will release a list based on the UK charts in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@BackingTrackCenter thank you so much I look forward to it

Excellents choix !
Genesis les plus grands.

What a joke. Where is YES!
YES is one of my favorite bands. What information do you have about YES's performance on the Billboard Hot 100™? It's only natural that a band with YES's level of experimentation wouldn't perform well on the charts.
@@BackingTrackCenter owner of a lonely heart went to number one on the billboard hot 100

Where is Black Sabbath?
Two Black Sabbath songs made the Billboard Hot 100™: Iron Man and Paranoid. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks
Missing: A. The Bee Gees, and B. Duran Duran (at least 2 US no.1 hits from memory, "The Reflex" and "A View to a Kill")
@@sbam4881
Bee Gees were from Massachusetts USA they even sung that
But the Animals where are they?
Wouldn't call Bee Gees and Duran Duran rock; maybe the Duran Duran side project, Power Station as they had two top 10 hits.
👍
Uma lista onde não estão bandas como Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Uriah Heep, Rainbow e Status Quo não tem a mínima credibilidade para mim.
👍
How about doing a list of bands with the most number of records sold, in Singles & LP's Then as a supplement those with the greatest downloads of music videos!
Great suggestion, we'll do that in the next video on this topic. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It would be interesting to see a similar list based on album sales.
That's an excellent suggestion. Let's prepare a list with that criteria. Thanks for watching and commenting. Merry Christmas!
I don’t know about the other bands on that ranking but i know the Beatles will be number one for that too.
Na sweet had at least 3 top ten hits sorry
Where are the Quo? They have been around since the 60's and are still going strong today or don't you like them? It's always the Beatles and there are people who AREN'T Beatles fans- i'm one of those fans

Supertramp really were a flash in the pan, but there was a point in the 70s when they were constantly on the radio. Ditto Oasis 20 or so years later. Sabbath, Priest and Maiden sold millions of albums but got very little airplay. AC-DC is technically an Aussie band but they made their fortune in Europe and the UK.
