This is a masterclass in stamping an 80s beat in the modern day. I truly admire Flowers as an artist, and respect not only the work that he has put in over the years to expand his vocal range, but also the creative experimentation of his music. It never feels like experimentation for its own sake to seem different, or edgy, but shows how rooted it is in the musical influences he had growing up, and his love of them. Being the same age as him, hearing Bronski beat sampled, Tennant in here, and the many 80s covers Flowers does live, it's brilliantly nostalgic, and refreshing, and he's taking youngsters to a great musical place they may not have gone to otherwise; given how talentless, vacuous, sexualised and sterile the modern music industry is now. Hats off to the man!
This was playing at McDonalds. Googled the lyrics while I was eating my BigMac. Put it to play on TH-cam. Started crying. Saddest meal I had in my life. Great song, Brandon Flowers is the hero for all the guys who work for a relationship. I salute you, Sir.
@@RJordan0220 It's both, and very ambiguous about this. It's saying that the sacrifice of change is needed for a relationship too. Please don't speak in totality.
I sing this to myself anytime I’m going thru something hard and I know I’m gonna need to grow and change as a person to handle the situation appropriately
I wish so badly for a real conversation with Brandon Flowers about him, his life, and his music. I want to know down to every little detail. His music is my soundtrack.
Hoy escuché este tema por primera vez en la radio y me dije "cómo puede ser que jamás oí semejante joya de los ´80?" Luego de investigar, me entero que es un tema del 2015. Increíble hallazgo.
you always surprise me!! seriously, I have zero words for this!! I am a proud victim - flowers, and nobody CAN CHANGE that!! I love you and you are doing an amazing work!! you never defraud your real fans!
This guy is brilliant! Not sure how he’s not gone to the top everywhere!!?? I love watching his sing and move and live his music. He has meaningful lyrics You’re a muso with a brain Brandon.
On the first listening I was thinking this song is a sort of remix/mashup like...I was totally wrong! This song is a masterpiece and the video amazing! Thanks Brandon!
I feel like this video made the song even better haha. With a lot of his songs I feel like it seems strange and different at first, especially this one, but the more I hear it and with the visual as well, I realize how much it really works. This is actually growing to be one of my favorites from the album :)
smalltown boy was hands down one of the best yet underrated 80s songs so it's fitting it's being sampled by one of the current best yet underrated artists, also luv there was a cameo by bronski beat!
I really like the visual sort of "80s revival"! My little girl and I always talk bout "living in the 80s" and how she wishes she had grown up in that era. It was a simpler more carefree for me too so I appreciate any music that takes me to that place. I really relate to the lyrics "I can change " because I understand what it's like to always be adaptable to any environment simply because of my curious nature and never really being a person "set in my ways" because I enjoy always learning something new simply for just gaining whatever knowledge I can in this mortal life . Also that Empathic nature allows the adaptability since it's easy to sense the feelings of those near me.. However I'm going to be completely honest here in that I don't think a person should have to really change their intrinsic nature and spirit to be with someone-even if they have the gift and ability and nature to that adaptability.. It's a great professional trait but in intimate relationships , for me anyway , I've learned that I'd rather be able to be who I am and the person that the Lord intended me to be and be able to express myself and the gifts that I've been given and have someone be ok with that. I guess after all the years and all the experiences and all the people I've met and places I've been.. I guess my "ideal" would be to find someone who has been broken or wounded in similar ways as I have so that we could heal and grow and love each other better. Most people might be looking for perfection but I'm not.. I'm looking for someone I can work toward perfection with and for me for some reason I'm so attracted to the "wounded soul" that needs both love and nurturing as well as the Atonement to heal. I don't want to have to change before someone will love me. I don't want to change anyone either . People can grow together . I really appreciate the music and words and melodic musings as it really helps me to put my own life into perspective .. Music can heal .. People can heal.. The Lord can use our natural gifts to heal us and others so thank you for using your gifts to help people like me to heal and put my own life into perspective. God bless you with peace, positivity, humor, love and laughter! 😇👍🏼👍🏼
I want duet between Brandon and Neil Tennant in this great song! Brandon, I does not understand how Neil has such a fleeting participation in this sensational song.

For Pet Shop Boys fans: The Neil Tennant vocal at 1:57 is a clip from an actual voicemail that Neil left on Brandon's phone. (Neil and Brandon are friends and Brandon is a long-time Pet Shop Boys fan.)

This isn't healthy relationship advice. It's more a song of how people lose themselves in relationships to please someone else.

What a beautiful song, once again Neil Tennant has sprinkled his magic dust on a composition to bring out the best of its individual components.
Brandon Flowers one of the best vocalist's in the world^^

2:24 is my favorite part. Interesting moves there Brandon haha
That is a belter. Total respect to the Smalltown Boy sample, which it deserves. Powerful and anthemic. Brilliant.
He's done justice to smalltown boy and has created an absolute banger at the same time. Brandon can do no wrong!!!
Is it meant to like a recreation? Because I always thought the songs sounded similar (that's why I love both) 🤭
