    Just the video I was looking for. I agree that the Ranchos are absolutely terrible and at 21,000 miles they are already rusting and are an eyesore. Great video!

    These came with my 14 Sierra 1500 and are fairly new. I absolutely HATE them and have been looking to get rid of them first chance I get.

    Boot up if running gravel roads or else that boot will get torn up in a few hundred miles. Of course, you can run without a boot. For us who run off-road, but up....for paved roads; makes no difference. However, why go with the 5100? If not lifted and need the extra extension length or if not using a coilover on the front and using a 5100 adjustable shock, a 4600 is the same monotube design with the same size digressive valve and nitrogen charged.

    It’s sad that GM uses these
    On trucks still, POS. my 22 trail boss LT rode like a cinder block with wheels with Ranchos like a jeep wrangler. I put these on mine and OMG I was speechless, the Hop he’s talking about is gone. Just amazing when towing also

    If you're looking for a smoother ride although Bilstein is a well-known quality brand the 5100s are known to ride very stiff and most people say it's too stiff for their liking

      I did 5100s all the way around (second notch up front). Smoothest riding vehicle I’ve ever been in.

      I have installed the 5100 on the rear and the truck vibrates a lot and I can feel every single bump on the road… the worse decision I have ever made. I really don’t understand what people are talking about a smooth ride.

    I installed mine last night with the boot facing down so you could read the decal on top and was laughed at saying they where put on upside down

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, I have had people comment that they are upside down then I point them to Bilstien's website so they can get educated.

      @@737mechanic Just installed the same ones on mine, and the label was oriented such that the boot is up. Double checked the website too to make sure I was putting them on correctly, and double checked the part numbers for the shocks, and they're correct per Bilstein's website too. So, maybe they changed it?

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@upon1772 Interesting. To me it only makes sense to put the boot down so any water or debris that gets inside will not ride on the chrome and wear out the seal, instead, it will drain out the weep holes which in your case are at the top but in my case, they are at the bottom.

    This might be a really stupid question, but where are you putting the jack at to lift it best for the shocks? I don’t believe the pumpkin is the right spot IMO and I didn’t see a jack on yours. Thanks

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't jack it up for the rear shocks, I had enough room to get under it and change them without jacking.

      @@737mechanic at about 7:30 when trying to fit the shock is what I’m trying to do and I was wondering how that worked out. I was thinking on lifting where the hitch it’s at to lift it for the shock placement.

      Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering the same thing. I’ve only jacked the rear up on the rear diff (pumpkin) so didn’t know about using the hitch. Thanks both of you

    Your old shocks still had some life left in them, Rancho is just junk altogether. Their rebound specs are far inferior to Bilstein, Fox and even monroe.

    If I just changed my rear shocks on my Sierra to bilstein and left my front Rancho for now would that be a bad idea? I'm not enjoying the rear feel of myn over bumps especially at higher speeds, only 12000km,not happy

    The 5100 is not re-buildable. The 5160 are. But they are 2 to 3 times the price.

    Hi i have a 2016 GMC Sierra V8 Crew Cab 2wd….can I use this same set up for my truck? Or it has to be on a 4wd?? Is yours 4wd? The Amazon listing for both front and rear u have shows on the description up top…”4wd”

    • @737mechanic
      @737mechanic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That listing on Amazon should show for both 2wd and 4wd. The part numbers that come with the set show they are for both 2wd and 4wd on Bilstein's website. So yes that set will work with your 2wd truck.
