They keytar is fundamentally seen as kind of a "meme instrument", but as a recent owner of a keytar (this one specifically), I've found that all you need to be taken seriously and/or look cool while playing the keytar is simply to play it with confidence.
Just came across this, as a keys player of over 35 years experience I've never had the confidence to use one of these, plus back in the day they were really limited. I do however like to mess with peoples heads during sound checks and such, and the Sweet Child of mine riff is a fave to mess with the sound engineers or people standing about, as it turns heads and then they realise there's no guitar player on stage at the time. You've also nailed the fact that you cant approach guitar parts like a keys player, for example, when playing chords a lot of players will play full chords, when to sound authentic it really needs to be just 5ths or other 2 note chords, which is also a good tip for when playing with a guitarist so you're not comparting for the same "space" in the sound. Love the use of pitch bend and vibrato. I'm not familiar with this model, are both controlled from the same ribbon controller pad? Have to say the overdriven sound is more convincing than the clean strat sound. Sticking a wah into the chain would be interesting too. Here's one for you to try, The Pseudo Echo version of Funky Town. Great job, enjoyed it.
I wasn’t expecting much, but I got to say, that was impressive. I’ve been playing Keytar for about 15 years and use SWAM instruments for horns and strings and Musiclab’s various forms of guitars like Les Paul. Kontact for Pedal Steel … Just graduated from the roland Ax, which was enormous/ heavy to the Alessis, which is way more compact and has triple the number of MIDI assignable knobs and faders. Well done, thank you!
You play awesome durde!!!! I always wanted to play guitar, i am still trying, but for me is very dificult, i play drums and piano, so i think this could be an awesome choice for people like me. I had seen that also bass can be played from one of these with the correct sounds.
Rock the house. No strings attached! And practice is purely silent with headphones. Programmable. A keyboard when it wants to be. The best of two worlds.
Dude. I'm gonna be honest. When this video started, I wasn't expecting too much. Man was I wrong. I've been playing keys for a LONG time. I used to strap my Poly 800 on back in the day when I'd gig. I recently bought an AX-Edge and I hope I get anywhere close to the same level of awesomeness out of my new axe that you're getting out of your setup. Rock on, Brother!
Thanks for sharing! I had a Roland Axe-edge last year with its own built in sounds, but it was simply unwieldy to play on stage with.... bigger than a damn bass guitar. This is the only smaller keytar I've seen with full size keys and I'm not a fan of mini keys. Also I'd have to run it through my iPad, but YOU HAVE CONVINCED ME that this is the way to go because your guitar patches rule! Also I"m going to need some real piano sounds for Journey and stuff like that and the KORG RK-100S2 just doesn't have them. Most helpful video I've watched in a long time!
i was really impressed with how fabulous the keytar sounds on these popular solos and how well you play them! Too bad Glen Frey is such a pr-k we missed a good one!
El teclado ya lleva estos sonidos de guitarra? y si no es así de donde los sacas? No veo que el keytar este conectado a un ordenador o dispositivo externo.
I really like the video. What is the effect you have on the ribbor contrôller and what number is it? Thanks. Please answer me Thanks for the reply. It is effect Pitch bend?
Dude you're nailing these solos - sounds great! What Kontakt samples are you using? If I get one of these (looking at the Roland Ax-Edge) it's going to be on stage with me sooner than later. Thanks for helping show me the way!
re you also a guitarist? Man those solos are greatly played! PS which samples do you use on kontakt to make that guitar sound? It's amazing, very good! I tried with shreddage Jupiter or musiclab LPC to make my AX Edge sound real
you are amazing my brother. I watch this video all the time and it inspires me! just picked up a roland ax edge and im starting to practice. post more videos if possible!!! cheers

Or just lean into the meme-ness of it and be in on the joke, that's why I bought one, it's huge fun

Not to shabby!
This was a good demonstration of a ketar. Most are bogus eh!
Thanks
Just as an aside, you may consider making a video about your software/VST set up to show folks what modules you’re using and signal path.
