9) Longevity. PCs are much easier to keep up to date than consoles. When a part of a console gets outdated, the company pretty much has to make a new console and start a new generation of consoles, which can take a few years to actually happen. When a part of your PC get outdated, you can just easily swap out that part for a newer one for a much smaller cost than it would to get a new console, and continue on your merry gaming way.
I got my new gaming pc just a week ago after a friend persuaded me to get it. For the last week, I've only played on my console once, and that's just because I had a friend over. Plus, that friend that persuaded me got angry because we've mostly played on PlanetSide 2 and I could run it at all high and ultra settings (Forgot the AA) at above 30 FPS in huge battles. Plus, I spent only $760 on it. Honestly the best $760 I've ever spent.

Console is a lot better for being social. It's a lot easier to have a bunch of friends over playing on the console in front of a 55" tv while relaxing on the couch. Every Friday I have a couple friends over, we order some pizza and wings and enjoy console gaming. It's like a social cinematic experience that can't be enjoyed on a PC. PC is more secluded.

And FYI, Microsoft made $20.49 billion in total revenue with an operating income of US $77.65 billion. How can something that sells well be considered secluded? Did you know that consoles use old PC parts? Technically, you're also playing off of a computer.
I just enjoy being able to play with 3 other friends at a time cooperatively. Consoles are more accessable then a pc and that's why they sell better. Secluded as in most pc gamers play by themselves at a pc monitor (not actually critising that). Nothing wrong with PC gaming I just prefer a console because of how easy it is to use. Not everyone can afford a 1500$ computer and not everyone can built there own. 400$ for a ps4 that's closing in on a PC is a lot of bang for your buck.
I remember watching this video 2 years ago when I was also for Playstation and Xbox. Back when my budget was enough for a game or two and maybe Xbox Live. But now it's 2014 and I just built my gaming PC yesterday, and I have to say it's the greatest money I have ever spent! It took me awhile to get the thing built because it was my first time but In the end after I got windows installed I literally shit my pants. The speed was a huge upgrade from any other computer I owned, and seeing that I just had to test out a game. I immediately installed Skryim off of Steam and I was just speechless.. All I have to say is if your considering PC gaming you should most definitely stick with it, you won't be disappointed.
I'm getting ready to make the jump to PC gaming, your story is similar to mine. Skyrim is the main reason why I want to switch (mods and all) but building my own machine and better graphics are something I can't wait to try. kieran brett I disagree. A PC requires upgrade much more often than a gaming console, with high end VGAs costing as much as a new Xbox one or PS4. As for upgrading CPUs, it usually requires upgrading a motherboard also. This being said, PC does have better graphics than gaming consoles if gaming PCs are up-to-date. Higher price with better graphics, the choice is up to the users.

If you are looking at a mid to low range gaming PC, then you may be right, but for PC gaming enthusiasts that are ready to spill out a few thousand dollars, PC gaming means better sounds and graphics with an empty purse. However, I see that you are talking about antique systems, like the Amiga. I don`t think that this post was intended to address this matter. You make a great argument for PC gaming. I've been doing it since I was 15. Back in 2004 I went with a 9800xt, 3.0GHz Intel, and 1GB of RAM. In April 2004, that was a killer system.

Also you forgot to mention that you can customise the computer to your own specification e.g. lighting fans watercooling multi GPU cards and hardcore soundcards. You can also be very creative with the way you build ur PC.

Reason why I love PC is because of simple reason, people argue about performance, graphics etc.etc Reason why I love the PC is same reason I love my android phone, its multy-functional and customizable I can browse, watch TV, play games I can freaking work and pay bills on my computer, Can you work or pay bills on a gaming console? So then If you get a half way decent computer why would you need a gaming console? Lets get all serious here for a second and Ill put it this way, Only reason certain consoles are actually selling well is because of the bloody "Exclusives", Nintendo was selling games ONLY for Wii and DS, because of business reasons If you take away the exclusives and games were on ALL platforms which one do you believe is supperior? Only reason people buy Nintendo consoles this days is because it has Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong, and people are stuck with nostalgia
I totally agree with you. You couldn't have said it any better. I just love multitasking and customizing, it makes things so much easier and unique. Not to mention if you build your own PC there is that satisfaction and bond with your machine and you know whats in it. When people see it you can be like, "I built that" Its a great experience.

Here's 2 more reasons: 1. Scalability - Upgrade components as you wish, at a pace that you control. 2. Portrait mode - When not gaming, you can get a swivel stand for your monitor and prop it in vertical view. Great for internet browsing or office/ homework!
I used to ONLY play consoles for yrs. But I have built my very first computer 2 months ago, and would NEVER even think of going back to consoles. I sold my X360 & PS3 to help build my rig along w/all the games.. and couldn't be happier! Just also upgraded to a 780ti yesterday as well. My library is not huge yet, but the games I do have... is NIGHT & DAY to what I "used" to think looked good on a console. PC all day! lol...

Over the years, I've been more of a console gamer.. Until recently... The upcoming Oculus Rift was (for me) much more exciting than anything the PS4 or Xbox one currently have to offer. That's when I started thinking PC rig.. PS4 and Xbone are both now charging for online play, this when combined with the higher price for games, means the price gap keeps closing.. Seriously thinking PC rig.. I've been getting more into sims (flying, driving) as I've gotten older.. And Console "sims" like Gran Turismo and especially Forza pale in comparison to PC sims like Rfactor, Live for speed, Game set and match.. I'm going PC! The better graphics, modability, superior control choice, etc. etc. etc.. is all just icing!

I'm building my first PC soon just ordering my parts and got my case yesterday. I like seeing how things work and how things are put together, but i've done a lot of research on my parts, true I could get it pre-built but what would be the fun in that, i'd like to take it up as a hobby. I've had it running for around a month now works brilliant, can get above a solid 60 FPS on most games on ultra and if not above, on Metro Last Light I get around 32 FPS minimum, I've not overclocked it and I don't think I will but in the future the option is there if I change my mind.

I am just amazed with how POWERFUL the pc is. I was rocking Alien Isolation with my gtx 460, 4 years old gpu :) and had it on max settings, the graphics were years ahead playstation 3 and in the same level as playstation 4. Also, with a PC its flexible.. you can use it for other things, watching shows, movies, do video editing, typing up your homework, typing up stuff for your work/job you can update the components as years go by etc. In the future though, I wouldn't see PC getting "phased" out or replaced by Console. What would probably happen is that PC will still be around but will be smaller but still upgradable like today, and it will most likely support wireless access, for instance playing or using your computer to watch movies or videos downstairs using your 50 inch 4K TV whilst having the computer itself upstairs or hidden somewhere inside your house/flat/building. Made possible by Wifi and a wireless HDMI sender/receiver. And be 100% have more features than today. Or perhaps another hardware will be introduced that will phased out both Console and PC. Maybe the technology is up to a point where a super PC is all inside a miniature wearable ARM device that can connect to your eyes and see/use your super computer in real time while walking down the street lol. Also the bottom line is that CONSOLE is basically a "PC". If you disassemble a console, the inside is comprised of parts you normally see in a PC. The difference is that the Console parts are miniaturized version (i.e. ITX) and usually have not so High End Components (main GPU and CPU are from AMD mainly because they are cheaper hence the cheaper console prices, they are not high end either). And the only reason why latest games play on a not so High End Console Components is because Console games are optimized to play using the low end components. Unlike in PC where, the games for it literally is played at the maximum possible Graphical settings. Also PC components will have better components if you unload your wallet to it and will have better cooling, better expandability (upgrading the parts) etc. This is why people say PC is better than a Console. And on top of that, unlike Console's you can do more stuff with the PC as I have mentioned i.e. Typing your homework, video edit using available softwares), edit your music (using softwares), watch shows/movies, Gaming, overclock, etc.
My last gaming console was the N64. That's when I spent $1,000 to have someone build my first gaming PC. I had no money left for PC games. So I download bunch of free PC demo games. Some are short some are longer. Then I found all these PC mods to the demo games I had download. So I learn the new necessary software to load mods to my demo games. Now I have a totally new experience with my PC games. Things you can't even do in the original PC games. I had so much fun, that I didn't even went out to buy PC games. I just download all the free PC games I could. demos and full versions. I now build my own gaming PC's. So I spend good money on the awesome hardware parts that are out there. Then hunting for more free PC games. Mods are the awesome part, of PC gaming. Never touch a gaming console past the N64. And I don't even feel like I am missing out on anything.
PCs can do anything you want. Games. Work. Movies/TV/Music, research, etc. You can replace so many things with a PC and at the same time you're learning how to use it which is a good skillset to have these days.
I ordered a gaming pc online for just £400 and I can run most games on high and in some cases ultra (fallout new Vegas ) at 60+fps and even medium settings look far better than my console. Not forgetting the cheap games, no annual fee for online multiplayer and the ability to just have a whole computer at my finger tips! I have just recently switched to a pc and realised what I've been missing out on. Oh yeah and mods!

I don't understand. Pc games are snobs and console gamers aren't? I don't really really care for fanboys or snobs, I do what I want to do and enjoy it. Don't be a sheep. It's all about options and what you enjoy doing. I have a 360 and a ps3 and decided to get a gaming pc rather than get sucked in to all the hype and get a xbone or ps4 because I didn't think either of them were really 'next gen'.
While I agree having a PC is a must, I also think that if people have the money of course, they can have at least one of the 3 consoles, whether it's PS4, Xbox One, or Wii U. Mainly because of the games they offer and certain features you can only find on them. Not saying you should play them over PC if you're a big time PC gamer, but then again, having one the platforms to at least be able to play the latest exclusives is better than making constant petitions or something.

Yes, you get steam achievements as well as others depending on the client, but to be honest not many PC users care about them; myself included. Note that I did collect trophies and achievements on PS3/Xbox

With this many reasons, if I hadn’t been convinced already, I think I would be now. Getting back what you put in is a good point. I’ve been very surprised that components I replaced 7 and 9 years ago are still going, though a few games don’t run, my faves do (guild wars 2 and the sims, and many others). So does unreal engine 5, at least the basics cos I haven’t got far into it.
It is definietly worth it! But no point in buying the 3570, you want the 3570k then you overclock, its only a little bit more. If you want to cut costs get a cheaper case, and use an ssd and an old hard drive from a laptop ect for storage. That would shave £120 off.

I kept putting off getting a gaming PC as I didn't know where to start and didn't have anyone to teach me things. That was 4 years ago and since then I have never looked back. Once you buy your PC it's pretty easy to install and play games via steam and Origin. They download automatically when you buy a boxed game. From there that is you started.
You can play games on PC that are on consoles. It just takes about a year after a console releases with them games (depending on how far you go back) to get a emulator for the PC. You can play actually every game on PC thats on a console (if it's popular enough to be pirated to the piratebay/ if it's on disk and you have the disk and the correct reader for it) Also every COD on consoles run at 60 fps (The newer ones like Black ops 2 etc go under that some times or a bit)

The more I look into PC gaming, the more I am convinced it is a smarter idea (especially for gamers) to get a PC for these reasons: 1- in this day and age everyone will need a PC for themselves at some point in there lives so why not save money by buying one instead of a next-gen console (don't get me wrong though, I do have a PS4 and I love playing it) 2- like he said, it's a computer. Virtually anything can be done on a computer (video/audio editing, work/school related projects, book buying off of Amazon, TV watching, and much more) 3- flexibility and adjustability (especially when you take hardware into regard) in a PC is non-existent in consoles like the Xbox or PlayStation I am the kind of guy that likes to know what's under the hood of my car so I can probably guarantee anybody that I will get my own pimped PC (catchy right?) when I get the money.

In my opinion, there's no gaming pc (except for enthusiasts solution, with water cooling solutions and 8 fans and super cases with leds and shit), because we are just talking of a product almost anyone need, just slap in a 160 euro vga and you've a gaming solution in a machine you would use anyway everyday. Then wait for Steam to buy games on sales at 3-5 euro, max 10, gg wp.

I got my new gaming pc just a week ago after a friend persuaded me to get it. For the last week, I've only played on my console once, and that's just because I had a friend over. Plus, that friend that persuaded me got angry because we've mostly played on PlanetSide 2 and I could run it at all high and ultra settings (Forgot the AA) at above 30 FPS in huge battles. Plus, I spent only $760 on it. Honestly the best $760 I've ever spent.
What's even better is save some money and when your ready give yourself an upgrade. The optimization on PC is unbeatable!

Console is a lot better for being social. It's a lot easier to have a bunch of friends over playing on the console in front of a 55" tv while relaxing on the couch.
Every Friday I have a couple friends over, we order some pizza and wings and enjoy console gaming. It's like a social cinematic experience that can't be enjoyed on a PC. PC is more secluded.

I just enjoy being able to play with 3 other friends at a time cooperatively. Consoles are more accessable then a pc and that's why they sell better. Secluded as in most pc gamers play by themselves at a pc monitor (not actually critising that). Nothing wrong with PC gaming I just prefer a console because of how easy it is to use. Not everyone can afford a 1500$ computer and not everyone can built there own.
400$ for a ps4 that's closing in on a PC is a lot of bang for your buck.
I remember watching this video 2 years ago when I was also for Playstation and Xbox. Back when my budget was enough for a game or two and maybe Xbox Live. But now it's 2014 and I just built my gaming PC yesterday, and I have to say it's the greatest money I have ever spent! It took me awhile to get the thing built because it was my first time but In the end after I got windows installed I literally shit my pants. The speed was a huge upgrade from any other computer I owned, and seeing that I just had to test out a game. I immediately installed Skryim off of Steam and I was just speechless.. All I have to say is if your considering PC gaming you should most definitely stick with it, you won't be disappointed.
I'm getting ready to make the jump to PC gaming, your story is similar to mine. Skyrim is the main reason why I want to switch (mods and all) but building my own machine and better graphics are something I can't wait to try. Still researching parts and builds but that's interesting in and of itself too.

kieran brett I disagree. A PC requires upgrade much more often than a gaming console, with high end VGAs costing as much as a new Xbox one or PS4. As for upgrading CPUs, it usually requires upgrading a motherboard also.
This being said, PC does have better graphics than gaming consoles if gaming PCs are up-to-date. Higher price with better graphics, the choice is up to the users.
William Russell Actually, top tier VGAs lose value at an alarming speed. If you are looking at a mid to low range gaming PC, then you may be right, but for PC gaming enthusiasts that are ready to spill out a few thousand dollars, PC gaming means better sounds and graphics with an empty purse.
However, I see that you are talking about antique systems, like the Amiga. I don`t think that this post was intended to address this matter. Of course there is still support for the Amiga or the Commodore, but these do not fit into the category in "top tier gaming".

I totally agree with you. You couldn't have said it any better. I just love multitasking and customizing, it makes things so much easier and unique. Not to mention if you build your own PC there is that satisfaction and bond with your machine and you know whats in it. When people see it you can be like, "I built that" Its a great experience.

2. Portrait mode - When not gaming, you can get a swivel stand for your monitor and prop it in vertical view. Great for internet browsing or office/ homework!

Recently got a PC setup that will handle games that slightly beats the specs of an Xbox One, and my last console was a PS3 and all I can say is holy cow this is AMAZING.

I've been getting more into sims (flying, driving) as I've gotten older.. And Console "sims" like Gran Turismo and especially Forza pale in comparison to PC sims like Rfactor, Live for speed, Game set and match.. I'm going PC! The better graphics, modability, superior control choice, etc. etc. etc.. is all just icing!

I'm building my first PC soon just ordering my parts and got my case yesterday.
I like seeing how things work and how things are put together, but i've done a lot of research on my parts, true I could get it pre-built but what would be the fun in that, i'd like to take it up as a hobby.
Also i'll be using the PC for a lot of programs being opened at the same time, so it's not just a gaming PC, it's an effective PC.

I've had it running for around a month now works brilliant, can get above a solid 60 FPS on most games on ultra and if not above, on Metro Last Light I get around 32 FPS minimum, I've not overclocked it and I don't think I will but in the future the option is there if I change my mind.

As a teenager who knows quite a bit about technology I think PCs are more useful than consoles. On a pc you can multitask, browse the Internet etc and you have a better display/graphics and your gaming environment is more customisable.

I am just amazed with how POWERFUL the pc is. I was rocking Alien Isolation with my gtx 460, 4 years old gpu :) and had it on max settings, the graphics were years ahead playstation 3 and in the same level as playstation 4.
Now I will always like the consoles BUT I am amazed with the power of pc.

Also, with a PC its flexible.. you can use it for other things, watching shows, movies, do video editing, typing up your homework, typing up stuff for your work/job you can update the components as years go by etc.
In the future though, I wouldn't see PC getting "phased" out or replaced by Console. What would probably happen is that PC will still be around but will be smaller but still upgradable like today, and it will most likely support wireless access, for instance playing or using your computer to watch movies or videos downstairs using your 50 inch 4K TV whilst having the computer itself upstairs or hidden somewhere inside your house/flat/building. Made possible by Wifi and a wireless HDMI sender/receiver. And be 100% have more features than today.
Or perhaps another hardware will be introduced that will phased out both Console and PC. Maybe the technology is up to a point where a super PC is all inside a miniature wearable ARM device that can connect to your eyes and see/use your super computer in real time while walking down the street lol.
Also the bottom line is that CONSOLE is basically a "PC". If you disassemble a console, the inside is comprised of parts you normally see in a PC. The difference is that the Console parts are miniaturized version (i.e. ITX) and usually have not so High End Components (main GPU and CPU are from AMD mainly because they are cheaper hence the cheaper console prices, they are not high end either). And the only reason why latest games play on a not so High End Console Components is because Console games are optimized to play using the low end components. Unlike in PC where, the games for it literally is played at the maximum possible Graphical settings. Also PC components will have better components if you unload your wallet to it and will have better cooling, better expandability (upgrading the parts) etc. This is why people say PC is better than a Console. And on top of that, unlike Console's you can do more stuff with the PC as I have mentioned i.e. Typing your homework, video edit using available softwares), edit your music (using softwares), watch shows/movies, Gaming, overclock, etc.

My last gaming console was the N64. That's when I spent $1,000 to have someone build my first gaming PC. I had no money left for PC games. So I download bunch of free PC demo games. Some are short some are longer. Then I found all these PC mods to the demo games I had download. So I learn the new necessary software to load mods to my demo games. Now I have a totally new experience with my PC games. Things you can't even do in the original PC games. I had so much fun, that I didn't even went out to buy PC games. I just download all the free PC games I could. demos and full versions. I now build my own gaming PC's. So I spend good money on the awesome hardware parts that are out there. Then hunting for more free PC games. Mods are the awesome part, of PC gaming. Never touch a gaming console past the N64. And I don't even feel like I am missing out on anything.

I ordered a gaming pc online for just £400 and I can run most games on high and in some cases ultra (fallout new Vegas ) at 60+fps and even medium settings look far better than my console. Not forgetting the cheap games, no annual fee for online multiplayer and the ability to just have a whole computer at my finger tips! I have just recently switched to a pc and realised what I've been missing out on. Oh yeah and mods!

fanboys are everywhere : PC (Mac vs Windows vs Linux), consoles (Sony vs Microsoft vs Nintendo), smartphones (Apple vs Google vs Windows Phone). And this is only a small piece of the fanboys, if you go deeper you can discover music fanboys, movies fanboys etc. Avoid all of them and just enjoy your gaming :)
I don't understand. Pc games are snobs and console gamers aren't? I don't really really care for fanboys or snobs, I do what I want to do and enjoy it. Don't be a sheep. It's all about options and what you enjoy doing. I have a 360 and a ps3 and decided to get a gaming pc rather than get sucked in to all the hype and get a xbone or ps4 because I didn't think either of them were really 'next gen'.

While I agree having a PC is a must, I also think that if people have the money of course, they can have at least one of the 3 consoles, whether it's PS4, Xbox One, or Wii U. Mainly because of the games they offer and certain features you can only find on them. Not saying you should play them over PC if you're a big time PC gamer, but then again, having one the platforms to at least be able to play the latest exclusives is better than making constant petitions or something.
Agreed I know a lot of people on PC we're looking forward to destiny but they're not getting it unfortunately :-( if you're a big gamer with enough money I believe it's wise to have at least a moderate gaming PC and at least one console of your choice that way you miss out on less games

Yes, you get steam achievements as well as others depending on the client, but to be honest not many PC users care about them; myself included. Note that I did collect trophies and achievements on PS3/Xbox

With this many reasons, if I hadn’t been convinced already, I think I would be now. Getting back what you put in is a good point. I’ve been very surprised that components I replaced 7 and 9 years ago are still going, though a few games don’t run, my faves do (guild wars 2 and the sims, and many others). So does unreal engine 5, at least the basics cos I haven’t got far into it.

It is definietly worth it! But no point in buying the 3570, you want the 3570k then you overclock, its only a little bit more. If you want to cut costs get a cheaper case, and use an ssd and an old hard drive from a laptop ect for storage. That would shave £120 off.

A large reason why I enjoy gaming on a PC is the amount of freedom & options you have available.
1) not everyone has 4000 dollars for just a pc. Some people have lives and go outside. maybe go on dates.
2) the graphics are about 10% better on PC and costs 10x as much.

4) No one likes to buy a game to find out you are missing a dx11 where as on console it just works
5) higher framerates mean nothing, movies are 24 fps for a reason. The human eye can NOT see past 30fps, you were lied to.

Just order parts for my first Gaming Rig! After years of buying consoles I decided to do something new! Go review also good reasons to get into PC:)
I kept putting off getting a gaming PC as I didn't know where to start and didn't have anyone to teach me things. That was 4 years ago and since then I have never looked back. Once you buy your PC it's pretty easy to install and play games via steam and Origin. They download automatically when you buy a boxed game.

You can play games on PC that are on consoles. It just takes about a year after a console releases with them games (depending on how far you go back) to get a emulator for the PC.
You can play actually every game on PC thats on a console (if it's popular enough to be pirated to the piratebay/ if it's on disk and you have the disk and the correct reader for it)
Also every COD on consoles run at 60 fps (The newer ones like Black ops 2 etc go under that some times or a bit)

The 7th gen gaming became less flexible because as the consoles become more complex the more the later generations become more and more like PC's, PC is more flexible because it's the main goal to make them more flexible, the PC community likes to take everything into consideration whether it's running every hardware and software you want at the same time.

The more I look into PC gaming, the more I am convinced it is a smarter idea (especially for gamers) to get a PC for these reasons: 1- in this day and age everyone will need a PC for themselves at some point in there lives so why not save money by buying one instead of a next-gen console (don't get me wrong though, I do have a PS4 and I love playing it)
2- like he said, it's a computer. Virtually anything can be done on a computer (video/audio editing, work/school related projects, book buying off of Amazon, TV watching, and much more)
3- flexibility and adjustability (especially when you take hardware into regard) in a PC is non-existent in consoles like the Xbox or PlayStation
I am the kind of guy that likes to know what's under the hood of my car so I can probably guarantee anybody that I will get my own pimped PC (catchy right?) when I get the money.

1) You assume that your system is "better"
2) You tell others they should use the same system as you because it is "better"

4) You assume your idea of "better" is objective & other's views are irrelevant

Not everyone can get into PC gaming so easily
to be honest, a gaming pc can just be any normal desktop, slapped with a nice graphics card. As long as your system wont bottleneck the video card, happy gaming!
Pretty much this. In my opinion, there's no gaming pc (except for enthusiasts solution, with water cooling solutions and 8 fans and super cases with leds and shit), because we are just talking of a product almost anyone need, just slap in a 160 euro vga and you've a gaming solution in a machine you would use anyway everyday.
Then wait for Steam to buy games on sales at 3-5 euro, max 10, gg wp.
