Mate i was like you about 5 years ago. Here's a tip, save up any Christmas or job money you can and start off small. Then slowly upgrade stuff instead of doing it in one go. Don't bother with flash in the pan components or making it look good at first, just get the performance foundation. I started out with a shit HP desktop, I then transplanted it into a better matx case. I then added fans, a rx460 GPU, ssd, more ram etc. After that I realised my CPU was a bottleneck so I upgraded the shit HP mobo along with the CPU. Now I'm 17 I have a job and never thought I'd have an i5 7500 GTX 1060 g1 3g 8gb ram and rgb fans/peripherals in s340 elite tempered glass case. Next upgrade will be better CPU cooler and rgb strips. Also, the used market is your friend, try getting a good deal on a cheap GPU and a i5 2500k mobo ram combo. Then wack it in a cheap case to start or something.

If you just want a pc that works, and don't have an interest in the hardware or want to complicate things, buy a prebuild.
My first real gaming pc I got in 2009, it was prebuild and I loved it. With my new PC from 2016, I decided I wanted to try building it myself, so I could save some money, and gain some knowledge. I had a blast building it, but not everyone cares about the components, but just wants a pc that can play games.

    • @paulm2467
      @paulm2467 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Charlie G ideally you want your operating system (eg windows 10) and possibly a couple of your favourite games ( depending on the size of the ssd) on a separate small ssd and the bulk of your games, videos, photos etc. on a large ssd or hdd, you should also back files up regularly. Windows 10 will keep most of your drivers up to date but you'll probably need to update your motherboard and graphics card drivers when you first start. Paul's hardware has an excellent beginners series that takes you from part selection through to a full software installation and update.

I built my first ever PC last month and am SO GLAD I did. The equivalent specs would have costed me £300 more at least, and I was able to customise everything in it. I even broke the standoff mount for the CPU Cooler to my liquid AIO Cooler, and was very worried, however Overclockers UK were phenomenal in their customer support and sent me a replacement set :D.

Cool. My PC is nothing special yet, in fact, just looking at my specs might actually make you pity me. I'm saving up about 500 dollars to build my own PC.
This is what I have currently:
      PC Model: eMachines EL1358G
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 220 2.80GHz processor, dual core.
      RAM: 6GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 (MSI)
      Power Supply: 220W
Monitor 1: 1360x786 resolution, connected with HDMI
Monitor 2: 1280x1024 resolution, connected with VGA
HDD: 500GB Seagate, came from an old HP computer running Vista.
      OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)
It's not very powerful, but for the games I really like playing on PC (TF2, TES 5, and GH3 mostly) it works decently. The problem is the power and the processor. They're pretty bad, and they severely limit what my graphics card can do. I bought the GT 610 without realizing it requires at least a 300W PSU, so a 220W PSU is one reason I feel like I have performance problems, along with my processor. The processor is the really weak part; I've noticed it going all the way up to 90% usage when running a game like TF2, resulting in anywhere from 30-50fps, occasional spikes with it dropping down to 15fps or lower at random. When I die though, it jumps up to 100fps :p

Good option I always think for new starters that are nervous about full build is to buy a pre built that can have bits swapped out and as they get confident down the line can swap or add components to it. The slightly braver could get a mobo cpu memory bundle.

    • @davidlp3019

NO. DO NOT DO THIS. HP and Dell and big OEM type manufacturers like that basically always use the absolute shittiest quality unbranded motherboards and power supplies that often, although not always blow out within 3 years. B4 I built systems I bought an HP 500-310a desktop and it was the worst computer I've ever owned, expensive, low spec and terrible quality. They do this so they can decrease the cost of the pc and in turn increase profit margins. If you HAVE to buy a pre-built, at least get one from a good system integrator like ibuypower (although even their PSUs are questionable). Build a system so you save some money, learn a new skill, build confidence in upgrading, and insure you are using quality parts.

Surprised at the fact you even went to PC Specialist and didn't compare the cost of building a like for like system. I did that and for a mid-range system of about £700 they seem to be charging about £50 to build it, set it up, ship it and slap on a proper warranty. So building my own for £50 saving hardly seems worth it.

Just watched this to see how much you evolved over the years and holy moly, this is grim. Don't take me wrong, the quality is still there, but you look like a young emo robot version of Machine Gun Kelly, no offence. It's joyful to see how much your delivery improved over the years - there's definitely more energy, more classic British humor, more confidence and more life in your videos now. Well done, keep going. Just make sure you don't diss Eminem, that's a bad idea, trust me.

Tonnes of vids from the US but there aren't many (or any...) UK content producers out there doing this sort of thing so it would be great to see you take up the challenge! It would also be quite cool to have your take on a complete system rather than just the PC components (i.e. best gaming monitors, speakers, keyboards and mice (wired and cordless). Thanks and hope this happens.

If you know what you’re doing then build it because it’s pretty fun, and it’s your own creation so it’s exactly how you want it depending on your budget, but if you don’t want to experiment then build it and learn about it. My first pc I bought a prebuilt and would upgrade minor things or add things to the motherboard. Then I replaced the processor, added lights etc. and I learned how to customize it, so when I wanted a new pc I just built it. And it was great because when I bought it premade I just focused on playing and learning about the pc. But building it was an experience, coming back from work and working on it, going to different stores searching for RGB and cases, and meetings many dope people and talking about what components are better.

I've just bought a Pc from Cyberpower £1100, Custom selected parts, picked what I wanted. I checked online for prices to build it myself and it would of cost nearly £300 more to buy the parts myself and build it. Were talking ryzen 5 1600x, nxzt x42, 16gb ddr4 lpx vengence, 120gb ssd, 6gb msi geforce GTX FE, master cooler rgb fans and Thermaltake case (t Glass). Seems to me that alot of these computer hardwares stores are ripping alot of people off. Scan/Aria/Ebuyer all would of cost 20%/30% more to buy the parts and build it myself. Crazy

People saying, 'buy if you have the money', but why? For 1000usd you're going to get something just above average. If you have 1000usd and build a PC, you're going to have over kill pc.
A better example of this would be when me and my friend decided to upgrade - I built a PC for £500 (have to pay for uni so tight budget) and my friend, who is well off, buys a pc for £850. Mine is significantly better and he's ended up spending more money to improve it.
(Also, if English is bad I'm not native English)

uhm Hey, you missed some things :D fof.
      UK£ 1000 =1 290.5 US$
. Second thing : I'm pretty sure *overkill* is relative. Lets say an 1060 might be an overkill for him because he only plays minecraft, leauge, csgo on a 60Hz monitor, and watches youtube videos, but for you it might not do the job since you *lets say* want to play the newest games at *U L T R A* .
But i might be wrong , if yes please correct me , but as far as i know the word overkill doesnt referr to how strong a PC or XY is :P

This includes everything. You don't need case fans since the case includes decent case fans, cooler has thermal paste already applied, and... why would you need extra SATA cables when it comes with whatever you're buying? My motherboard came with 2 already, and I got more by buying more drives.
Also, just pirate Windows. Fuck Windows. They're assholes. No one feels bad. Or get Linux.

second of all i will probably , hopefully build a pc in Winter and i'd also have some questions about it
-does black friday affect pc components on.. letssay amazon, newegg?
-i will use the rig for streaming, and idk if i should buy win 10 or xd ? i just fear that i'll accidentally leak it somehow or smth. , thanks :)

Black Friday does affect PC components, but I think Cyber Monday has better deals. And yes, the person above states, you can run a legitimate key of windows that has a pirated version.
This also might be a better build
