Talking about the movie, I realized that it was going to be a blunder after watching the trailer itself. But the sheer over-confidence with which Vijay claimed that he didn't care about the movie facing any boycott scandals and that it would be a hit regardless was when it struck me that this would be Dobaaraa 2.0🤦🏻♀️ Maybe, it's not the boycott culture but is certainly about big film-stars expecting below average movies to be blockbusters. Yikes!

KJo projects himself as this progressive n nuanced cinema connoisseur in interviews n then keeps putting his money into ridiculous content. After all, it's all about business... Especially the whole portrayal of SEXUAL ASSAULT AS ROMANCE 🤦♀️
how can one back this project on a pan indian scale. Even the universal quotient of the mother son duo is so weak. It's as if the director was just given free reign

When people complain about nepotism this is exactly what they’re complaining about. Ananya will continue to get films even after these flops. Agreed it’s probably the director’s fault more than anything but can’t imagine an outsider getting the same opportunities regardless of whose fault it is.

I always use to look at Nepotism from Alia and Ranbir's point of view so did not pay any heed to it as they are good actors but now I will have to consider this overall nepotism issue- Just because of a few good actors coming out of nepotism, others less deserving ones are getting the benefit like Ananya, Sara, upcoming - shanaya. The sad part is they are not even trying!

Honestly Ananya did okay acting in Gehraiyaan and Piya Patni Aur Woh. This proves she can act, but in this film it was all over the place and she did shockingly bad acting, quite a bit of immaturity in the performance. Also Vijay also has done bad acting in this film, unbearably loud at times. Maybe it’s the director’s fault more than the actors lol.
A Liger is weaker than both a Tiger and a Lion and can't never survive in the wild on their own.

I've enjoyed several Puri Jagannath's movies like Pokiri, Businessman, Temper but Liger seems worst and down market. I remember Puri even directed Amitabh Bachchan Sahb in the film "Buddha Hoga Tera Baap" way back in 2011 and they forced Bachchan Sahb to fight, dance and even romance. That was a huge failure of Puri's and Amit Ji's career. The way an actor like Vijay Deverakonda worked hard on his body and character in such a crappy movie like Liger really breaks hearts of his fans. And nothing else to tell about Ananya Panday, her acting, her dancing, her style, her dialogue delivery and the way she gets movies every now and then even thought she fails at everything.

This movie didn't disappoint me, I expected it would fail miserably and it did. I am not a big fan of Puri Jaganath movies, they are very loud, have no social message, and show women as objects. Audiences will like movies with good content and performance irrespective of budgets, actors, or region. Sometimes overconfidence of the director and actor also contributes to the failure of movies.

Well, this was expected. I hope Liger opens the eyes of creators who think every film can be a Pan-Indian film. This had nothing going in it's favour to be a Pan-India release and I hope the reactions give the creators a reality check.

What really was shocking was the amount of promotions went into this one. Even after repeatedly saying that content is king and the lack of content or a good script can make the ship sink even if its from great budget, great stars or directors. Its high time, that all the makers realize this. Even earlier there were big star and budget movies that used to go flop, which was fine , but these days just the amount of promotion, and pre-release drama that goes into each movie is surprising making this whole process absurd.

Recently karan johar said in his interview, that whenever dharma produces a bad/mediocre film they go overboard with the promotions, 😬 was extremely disappointed by the trailer and knew from the intense promotions that this is going to be shit and from the cringe songs as well!!! But the funny part is that vijay went all around saying “its going to be a blockbuster, and im going to give karan a blockbuster”…. 🥴🥴🥴 but hatts of to jammy for sitting there only for us ❤️❤️

It's a genuine shame to see Liger take the over-the-top route. Karthikeya 2 proved that audience will fall in love in a film if it provides quality over quantity! I hope Telugu Cinema will learn from Karthikeya 2.

Sita Ramam crossed 45 cr alone in telugu version , Major , Karthikeya 2 etc well made commercials all worked at box office . Hope masala directors and actors understand that only good content sells .

When they released the teaser since that time itself i was 90% sure that this might be gonna cringe remaining 10% i felt i might be wrong because they hired Andy long action team as a choreographing action if makers want to create pure MMA SPORTS DRAMA then currently Vidyut Jammwal is perfect option because his action craft is not choppy he just do it live on spot and it will be clear to understand just how Scott Adkins was really great in Undisputed Franchise

Jammy's review videos are a treat to watch when he has to see "terrible content". He is at his vitriolic best when he uses terms like "narcissistic BIMBO", "I absolutely lost it" & is able to squeeze in "Matlab Kuch Bhi" segment within the review video of the movie. 😂😂😂 Also, using the clip of Saurabh Shukla's facial expression from Jolly LLB right at the beginning of the review was spot on! This review was a treat to watch. Thanks Jammy for keeping us entertained. 👍
I am appalled by their confidence to release this movie in theatres. Going OTT way would have done alot of good to Vijay, producers, distributors,exhibitorsand to the movie also.
Producers made nearly 100 crores. Only distributors suffering losses for purchasing movie for huge amounts.
I am so confused as to how are they so out of touch with reality these days. The sheer arrogance on VD's attitude is appalling. Especially when you have such a bad product in your sleeves.

I just can’t believe how confidently Vijay promoted his movie like the next big spectacle. In almost all his interviews he says shit like “i know this will be a blockbuster”, “this is my best role yet”, “ananya will sign more movies after Liger” . What the actual fck was he thinking. You can’t just take your fans for granted and sell a crap movie to them as something spectacular. And oh god, cant even begin to imagine what Jana Gana Mana is gonna turn out to be. 😭

I feel really let down by Vijay Deverakonda after watching his promotions and then watching the movie. How can you lie to your audience like this? I don’t trust this guy. You need to care more Vijay. Actually Bollywood audience liked SOUTH movies because of their rooted nativity and Culture. But this movie is exactly opposite, even Telugu audience feel it is a dubbed movie filled with bollywood styled party culture, romance and skin show.
The real south movies based on sports were:
1. Thammudu
2. Badri
3. Iruthi chuttru
4. Amma Nanna o Tamil Ammai
5. Sarpatta Parambarai
6. Jersey, etc......
Those had a soul in their story which is completely lacking in this movie.

Vijay's blind trust in Puri has completely backfired.. The openings of Liger are tremendous, on par with the superstars..with the buzz around the film, Just an above average product would have collected great money.. But Puri had other plans 🥶🙏
Watching Top Gun : Maverick really puts movies like this into perspective
I have seen Top Gun multiple times in the movie hall now.. I felt it is one of the best movies in a long long time.. and it has spoilt me.. I don't know how to enjoy any new movie in theater anymore :)

This movie is a masterpiece. A complete episode of Matlab Kuchh Bhi should be dedicated to this movie as a tribute to it.

Telugu film industry got rid of Puri jagannath for a reason and everyone in Telugu states know that Puri's Prime has been long gone. Issues with Puri is that, like many filmmakers - he’s not learning or trying to change his perceptive on presenting a story. Telugu fans were already sceptical with Puri's approach with the movie, as the movie gave away more Bollywood vibes. Puri got everything wrong when he decided to make the movie with Bollywood sensibilities (maybe Karan johar's suggestion). The reason Telugu movies or even some south movies were working in northern Hindi belt was for its authenticity of culture and storytelling but Puri went with Bollywood approach when ppl are so evidently jaded with it. Adding Ananya panday to the already sceptical ride made it much worse. VD should pick projects he can do justice to and should realise that he’s not the most versatile actor.

The Southern actors and directors have been put on pedestal by everyone because a couple of their movies worked. This movie proves that anything in excess is not good. Maybe now our audience will realise that just because it's from South, doesn't mean it's golden. And on a completely different note, what is this obsession of Indian film makers to shove a love story in everything 😏 I mean this movie could have been ten times better,had there not been the unnecessary Ananya Pandey sequences. We all know she was only used for glamour and not performance,but she cant do either. It's annoying really.

Most regional movies that the "PAN India" watches are either sponsored from multiple big banners or cult favorites for their story/talent and sheer output of at that scale. If the south movies are delivering better than the bollywood movies in range wise, it's not the south movie industry's fault, it is a compound effect of audience getting access to regional and quality content from small banners of hindi background on OTT. Maybe audience has become nuanced to try regional movies in majority perspective. Bollywood has been on remake relay, while regional movies are experimenting away from commercial masalas which ruled in 2000-2010 and which were watched only years later on channels like zee cinema with horribly dubbed versions. In the end, it's the story and the audiences' intellect. If you made KGF with no story and deliverance and just huge budget and set, it would still flop. Logo ko story chahiye abhi, kal tak jo "star" kaafi the toh make into 100cr collections are easily disposble if there's no story and a sound story teller.
The movie is a failure even before its release because of its association with bollywoods most Dubois people. Bollywood makes mindless movies and its already in news because of nepo kids. Strangely the same KJO and Ananya casted is a biggest negative. Moreover telugu industry is known for respecting culture and being down to earth but during this movies promotions the kind of arrogance Vijay and team showed actually had a huge impact because people literally wanted this movie to fail. This movie cant be called a south Indian movie. Its a movie from a flop director and bollywood gang.

In my view I think movie critics has great responsibility to keep the directors, heros and heroines in check, and make them think that they can't just make such movies and get away. Quality of movies has increased enormously in the South and huge credit goes to the reviewers for that. And I believe that is what is lacking in bollywood. Given the following you have, I think you should be even more critical about bollywood movies exactly how you did for this one
Devrakonda fan here, saw his last 2 flops and liked them too even though the roles were similar to what he had played earlier. I had decided to even TOLERATE ANANYA and watch Liger on the first day itself but his recent interview where he gave an arrogant recation to the Boycott trend made me stop myself from booking the tickets for the first day and wait for the reviews instead and thank God I waited. Now I won't have to watch this stupid movie, I think i won't even watch this movie on OTT..

I'm a huge fan of Puri Jagannadh until Pokiri. Later, he was really in a hurry to make back to back movies and ignored everything else. His other hit after Pokiri was Temper which was another person's story.
As a Telugu audience I can clearly say that, Puri lost his mind many many years ago and made worst movies. Every one says Ismart Shankar is superhit but it's a cringe movie.
Coming to Liger, when you have a true performer like Vijay, how dare you to offer him a character where he can't speak? It makes half of his performance down before you start shoot.
Puri's music taste is so so bad and he follows the same picturisation format of songs since ages. His screenplay also did not change at all. One love scene, one comedy scene, one action scene...repeat.

When I first saw the trailer of this movie, I was damn sure that this will bomb at the box office. The trailer looked more like a music video than a movie trailer tbh. And the songs...I don't understand how can people even call Aafat and Akdi Pakdi as "songs". Both of these soundtracks are so sh*tty. I'm also a Vijay Deverakonda fan but this film is out and out illogical, random and senseless. The whole movie doesn't make any sense. Even Farhan Akhtar's Toofaan was better than this. At least that had a training montage going on. When I heard that Mike Tyson will be in this film I was so excited coz I thought his role would be of a mentor but the makers instead gave him a cameo and that too so random that it didn't make any sense whatsoever 🤦♂️🤦♂️

thats the whole thing they get so arrogant and over confident an over estimate everything at the end of the day its the audience's wish; even a movies with only 20 crore budget can go on to make over 200 crore. If the story and acting are good. Likewise huge budget films of 300 crore have hardly gone to make 50 crore. It all up to the audience, physical transformation alone is not enough main thing is always acting and story telling. And by the way they sounded that it'll easily make that much no wonder the effort was not seen across the board ie wriitng directing. They were getting an offer to release right to OTT instead of theatres for 200 crore, but they rejected it as they thought it would earn way over that in theatres and 35 crores for one film about actor fee is crazy i dont think any actor should be paid that much. Okay so when Vijay had started teasing about this movie with the poster and everything that this is gonna be a big mass action packed fun movie, I honestly thought like okay this might be something good.

But rather than understanding this aspect what they merely focus on are dimensions that have nothing to do with the success of movies...like karan johar created Kalank thinking that bhansaali movies work because of the production..but actually it's the emotional appeal and the grand cinema experience. A movie like KGF works because of its storyline and visuals ...not that it has grand sets or loud acting. They made liger with an insane protagonist thinking that it's going to work because it has fighting sequences.

I have always been baffled that we (Telugu audience) hold Puri Jagganadh in such high stature even after the innumerable duds he has given us over the years. Almost all of his stories reek of similar tropes and screenplay elements which have been beaten to death. His portrayal of characters have always been problematic, even in his blockbusters such as Pokiri and Temper. I hope this national level rejection becomes a huge reality check for him.
Also, I have been a big admirer of Vijay as a person (recollecting his interview on FC years ago) and as a performer in his earlier roles. I understand that it is his duty to sell/promote his film but the level of dishonesty doesn't feel right and I doubt if I will carry the same admiration for him after this film.
I believe it's just his fans not the whole Telugu audience * who hold high regard of him honestly even after such contents from him.
Hopefully his fans realize this guy is just a flash in a pan, they do have good actors and films that are overshadowed by films and actors like him.
See the thing is in Pokiri and Temper the characters were meant to be problematic. Heck the title itself should be an indicator for Pokiri. Temper was an arc of a horrible human becoming good. The problem with his other film leads is that they are meant to be thought of as good.
For once a reviewer who gets the true value of Puri Jagannath's directorial skills in the past decade. Thanks a lot bro. Puri as a director faded a long long time back. To expect anything meaningful from him at this point is almost lunatic 😄 Coming to VD, was amazed at his acting in Arjun Reddy. But looks like he is a one step pony after all. I understand Telugu, so trust me when i say this - his telugu accent/diction is so limited that it feels pityful. He needs to improve a lot before he can claim to be an actor. He has charisma, so he can be a star, but as an actor he is still in his nappies.
When I first heard Vijay D is doing a Puri Jagannath film, I gave up all hopes. Puri, in the distant past, made some entertaining commercial movies, but his treatment of women characters has always been troubling and misogynistic.
I am disappointed with Vijay’s choice of movies. I hope he gets back to making movies with good storylines and classy directors.
You guys have to go through Heropanti, Rashtrakawach OM, Liger, Satyamev Jayate, Legend Sarvana etc on Big Screens as part of your job and then record a video (revisit the trauma) about it also.

One of the strengths of Puri's films are the dialogues. But here Vijay's Stammering completely ruined it. It's not even adding to characterisation
Mr. Anconda knew it was a flop so he just asked audiences to boycott it. So he could shift the pressure and the blame.
Vijay Devarakonda's Stammer in "Liger" reminded me of how awfully bad Ranbir Kapoor's Stammer was in "Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahaani". But Ranbir Kapoor realised that it was bad, then learnt how to do it perfectly and excelled in stammering for the film "Jagga Jasoos".
Hope VD had taken some inspiration from RK. He also had a great reference point on how to stammer perfectly, from Aamir Khan in Dhoom 3. He really should've seen and practiced from them, before shooting for Liger.
