1:05, Literally smash mouth football with a 🤜!! Csonka was the Fullback of my childhood!!...I loved Larry...If Marino had him, Jim Kiick and Mercury Morris with their defense, he'd have 5 Rings...
Larry Csonka, "The ZONK," "The Hungarian Hulk"! At 6'3" 240lbs. "The Zonk" was probably the hardest fullback to tackle, ever!! "The Hungarian Hulk" would drag tacklers along with him.....he was NICE!!
AWESOME clip, Czonka... Sabbath. Very well done.
Thanks
Zonk could MOVE PILES. IMHO greatest fullback to ever play.
Agreed. As a Vikings fan I was glad he was in the AFC
Csonka and Allstott were my two fav FB’s.
To this day I consider Csonka the Greatest Dolphin in Franchise history. Primarily because of his importance of getting the Dolphins to those 3 straight Superbowls, capped off with his dominating MVP performance in Superbowl VIII.
Yeah I think so too
The beating heart of that Dolphin dynasty! Love him!!!
He was a beast He was such a great running back I watched him on TV so much The original beast mode
Only RB in NFL to get a ruffing penalty for running over guys .
Best damn FB I’ve ever seen . With Mike Alstott a close 2nd , but there was only One Czonka
I think Hewritt Dixon of the early 70's Raiders also got flagged,on MNF v.the Redskins
Coach probably told him to keep running over guys, don’t worry about the penalty. Eventually the opposing team won’t have any players willing to get in his way or they will all be injured 🤕
I was fortunate enough too watch the Dolphins during the Czonka years and it was amazing to see.
He made defenders look like preschoolers.
The only other Fullback that came close was John "The Deisel" Riggins IMO.
John Riggins was also a fantastic FB, he once dragged a tackler for 15 yards and had great speed.
He wasn't just running over guys. He was dragging a would be tackler and beating him with his forearm repeatedly trying to knock him off. I'm sure he would argue it was necessary roughness, but the refs made the right call.
Zonk is often forgotten when remembering all the truly great RB's from Syracuse. Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Floyd Little et al.
Joe Morris
because is white.
He was fb
Leaving zonk out, who one year only fumbled once and Jim kiick had no fumbles,Jim brown seldom fumbled. There are far too many so called great running backs and receivers who were nothing but fumble bums and pass droppers that led to many rules changes and elimination of rules to cover their ineptitude and keep the dumbed, downed, doped up decadent public watching the over rated, propped up, overpaid bumbling bums. The ground cannot cause a fumble and the allowance of a dropped pass to be called incomplete when the fumble (no longer a fumble) cause the bum lost the ball when hit. The old time greats with no gloves and many rules could posses the ball for a nano second and although almost all of them never dropped a pass or very, very, very few, under the new rules the pass droppers were so inept the had to come up with the rule that he did not have time for complete possession when hit. Pure bunk to cover pure ineptitude and that are just two of dozens of rules changed or eliminated.
He was a fullback, but he is why I buy an “orangemen” hoodie and Floyd Little 👍💪✌️
GOAT Fullback of NFL history!
GOAT White Fullback (maybe), Jim Brown was the GOAT FB and maybe the GOAT.
Brown was known as a running back, idiot.
The diesel was pretty nice too. And no not Cecil Collin’s.
I would argue Mike Alstott is the GOAT, you gotta watch his highlights.
@@buckjones4901 Brown and The Diesel had twice as many yards and touchdowns than the young Buccaneer.
Csonk' and Kiik were the dynamic duo. Unstoppable. They made you afraid to try tackling them.
Yeah, then you throw the speedster Morris into the mix, and you've got an awesome triple threat!
Nobody has a film montage like Larry Czonka's. We don't even see his blocking here. His legacy to the NFL is huge, on and off the field, so thanks Czonk for the heart and soul you poured into this great sport we love!
Christian Okoye’s is arguably better against better opponents
@@poindextertunes I know you're joking. You can't be that stupid.
Czonka was Dick Butkus on offense. He went looking for something to hit!!!
@@keithknox5829 Yes. This is a cathartic video to watch. Revenge of the fullbacks. Never saw all these plays put together before this collection, but I well remember the championships Dolphins and Czonka's brutality in those years. Butkus was a heart attack for running backs, no rhyme intended. They actually met once in 1971. Czonka had 103 yards on 16 carries and 2 TDs, one rushing, one pass. Say no more about Czonk.
Couple of GREAT years. No more than that. SO WHAT?
Tough tougher toughest! It’s amazing he can even walk today! One of the greats!
Zonk was the only fullback / running back to be flagged for unnecessary roughness. LOL That says it all!
He was the greatest. But I was at a Raiders game when Hewritt Dixon got penalized at the end of a long run for giving a forearm shiver to a would-be tackler.
" Roughing the tackler" #39
The original Beast quake of NFL
Classic nfl greatness. Great video and great music
Thanks
In early February 1971, Larry was visiting 95th Evac hospital in DaNang. I was recovering from shrapnel wounds and he came to my bedside to talk with me. He was very nice and said all the right things to a wounded soldier. Nice guy! He was accompanied by Greg Landry and Gene Washington. We appreciated their visit.
That's a baaaaad man.
He's a joy to watch!! A throwback. 💪
A throwback to what? When Jim Brown and Jim Taylor were better? I agree.
I really enjoyed watching him play. He looked for contact.
Everyone is leading with their heads! What a different era. The slow-motion makes it look beautiful, but the reality of it is almost terrifying.
He didn't lead with his head. He lead with his shoulders
I played 5 seasons with a helmet and 17 seasons of flag. Only two or three of the in-game hits with a helmet on would have been legal today and the ones without contact from the helmet were probably considered dirty at the time. Heck, a bunch of the hits playing flag wouldn't be okay in the NFL today (giving them that shoulder over the middle when the ball arrives).
If Larry were playing today, he would be doing the same thing, smashing players & moving piles.
Fantastic editing of one of the true greats. Tackling Larry Csonka was often described as a career decision.
Best comment! :)
I was a very young kid in the early 70's but the Dolphins were my favorite team and Larry was the main reason. This video brought back a lot of memories.
I don’t think as a kid or adult any football player held me as spellbound as Csonka. His name alone was so powerful and unique. Combined with Jim Kiick they truly were Butch and Sundance.
A lot of people don't know that Czonka was the fullback that Joe Pisarczick tried to hand the ball to when they fumbled the ball to the Eagles in the "miracle in the meadowlands"!
That game was fixed
He wasn't a running back. He was a human steamroller.
One of the toughest running backs to ever play in the NFL. The '72-'73 Dolphins (Perfect Season) had a great lineup with Csonka, Kiick, Morris, Griese, Warfield, Little, and so many others! What a team!
I don’t think he ever tried to fake anyone out in his entire career. He looked for people to run into.
"The shortest distance between two points is a straight line." Larry Csonka
One of my absolute favorite NFL players of all-time. Look at all those hall of famers he ran over. Lanier, Nobis, Curtis, Butkus, Tatum, Hendricks, Howley, Krause, Eller, Lily. My God!
I'm glad you mentioned Tommy Nobis. He never seems to get any notoriety Great player on some not so great Falcon teams. One of my favorites.
That forearm shiver was legendary.
The battering ram the ZONK put the hurt on ya . A true legend of the game . I witnessed an through my own 14 years playing football, tried to learn from his over powering tactics ...RUN THROUGH ANYTHING IN YOUR WAY !!! 39 🐬CZONKA 🐐🏆👏
Guy was a beast! I saw him live. He just ran through people! Nice highlights from when football was about football instead of your pose and dance aftr making a moderate play. Good music too!!!
You are human garbage, but I wonder if you're aware that you are human garbage
Czonka was one of my first favorite players. I had a 39 Dolphins Jersey. I actually got his autograph after he retired....he was the guest speaker at a dinner banquet. Lol, he told this story of some veteran spitting tobacco juice on his new leather shoes his first day of camp.
I'm a lifelong Eagles fan (Go Birds!) but as a a kid I loved watching Csonka and Kick play for Miami. They were a perfect teaming of talent.
Larry was my favorite running back
Met him when I was 6 years old. He lived in Cutler Ridge FL. He was an absolute MONSTER. 😳
My favorite all time running back
Zonk had 2 settings: Off, and BEAST mode.
He was one of the most incredible spectacles the position of FB has ever seen and amazingly he's seldom recognized in today's game.
Speed and quickness aren't exactly his greatest assets but it doesn't seem to really matter to his success. Dude is an immovable force. Now they either grow backs or make them that big right out of high school with the speed and quickness to match. The game has changed. Csonka is up to the task, but he would probably be a linebacker in today's game.
He was the first beast mode
I’ve been an Eagles fan my whole life, but I really like the Dolphins too back in those days. Csonka was fantastic obviously, but the whole team was great too.
Now i remember why i watched football games
Our Hero growing up in little league at K-Land in Miami in the 70s. Just before the Great White Flight🇺🇸
Lots of great players back in the day. Larry Csonka was my favorite and still is. I was born and raised in Kansas, but Larry made me a Dolphins fan.
I sold a top end cigar to Larry in 2019..West Columbus ..Quiet .Good Shape..I said " Thanks Larry " no flash ..Regular Guy. Best Power Back Ever ..
Csonka is my hero pure power!!!!!!
I still say hes the Best power runner ever.. And that includes Earl Campbell.
He wasn't better than John Riggins.
NOT EVEN CLOSE. Jim Brown, Jim Taylor, John Henry Johnson, more names?
PERFECTION 😊
Sabbath and Csonka footage! Two of my favorite things.
THE BEST PURE FULLBACK EVER PERIOD
What a bull! Dang near impossible to bring down one-on-one; not much easier with two would-be tacklers. Great fun to watch!
Larry Csonka...Jim Brown...Bronko Nagurski...Marion Motley...Steve Van Buren...Jim Taylor...all HOF running backs....nobody in this group runs out of bounds on every play...like they do today!!!
You left out John Riggins who was better than all of them except Jim Brown.
The way he absorbs contact, he would have made a great rugby player.
He would have been awesome at rugby.
Took the Miami Dolphins to the Super Bowl undefeated and won in 72. No team has done it yet. He was a power runner.
I remember watching Czonka as a kid in the 70's. What a tank of a fullback. I loved this power running style. She scared entire defenses.
Larry Csonka my idol as a kid and Miami Dolphins my favorite team . Larry a great athlete
He's my all-time favorite player. When he got the ball, he wasn't looking to dodge anyone. He was looking for someone to run over.
All this, plus he even did an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man! 👍🏈
Growing up in Minnesota as a kid I had posters on my bedroom wall - Tarkenton, Foreman, Page…and Csonka.
He really was my favorite running back.
GOT DAYUM!!! That dude was a wrecking ball!!! 🏈 😂
This is what a linebacker would like if he ran the ball
Greatest!
He ran VIOLENTLY!!!!
Perhaps, no certainty, the most powerful runner in NFL history. Don’t make them like him anymore, just a great runner. He would be amazing today, justbamazing.
He wasn't as powerful as John Riggins.
In the mud as God intended. Takes half the defense to pull you down. That’s badass.
Grew up watching him. It's like trying to tackle Frankenstein's monster!
Not belittling Zonk here because I was a huge fan of his, and he was awesome for sure. But as I watch this video it occurs to me that tackling techniques have greatly evolved since the 70s.
Yeah, and Zonk was a big influence on those chages.
If he was running the ball today with these candy ass players he would be averaging 170 yards a game.
I was at the HS next to Stow where Csonka went. You should've seen the matchup game--we had Stan White (LB, Baltimore Colts) Tom DeLeone (Center, Bengals) Tom Campana (RB, Rookie of the Year, Saskatchewan Rough Riders) and Mike Adamle (RB, several NFL teams) and they had The Zonk. Amazing. I still remember one play where Larry and Stan both lowered their heads and collided with each other near midfield. What a spectacle. You don't see hits like that in HS ball.
Nobody truly WANTED to tackle Larry!😂
And no showboating to boot.
No one showboated until that black behaviour was celebrated and reinforced by television crews highlighting it, as though it were an integral part of the game.
The ‘72 dolphins unbelievable
Football was a hell of a lot meaner back then! Zonk played with passion
He’s why, as a kid in NJ with a diehard Jets fan father, I was a Dolphin fan, and still a, 50 years later.
One of the Best to ever play the Game..
Zonk threw forearms, not stiffarms
RBs don’t throw forearms anymore. When did it become illegal?
Remember 72 Dolphins. Christmas night longest game ever - Yepremian, Stenerud. I was from Memphis. Memphis Southmen where Kiick, Csonka and Warfield went. Went to a few games. Good ball. Don't care about the politics behind it all, just love the game. Memphis State put out a few good games but it was hell, maybe until 2019. Ozzy rules; beautiful music!!!!!!!!
Beast
It's impossible to deny why he was named Super Bowl 8 MVP
One of my favorite all time players
One of my favorite backfields, Csonk and Mercury Morris!!!
The greatest reason to become a Dolphins fan
The main reason the Miami Dolphins were undefeated is because of Larry Csonka. Period and amen!
Crazy that years later he’d take up acting and Star in 3 Men and a Baby
He also guest starred in The Six Million Dollar Man as what else? A football player who is kidnapped to prevent his team from winning.
He reminds me of Earl the pearl Campbell NFL great 💯💯💯👍👍 😎
Great highlight reel. Csonka could dish out some serious punishment!
The clip where Larry Csonka physically carries a San Francisco tackler an extra three yards is practically indescribable!😂🐬🏈B.W.
Csonka and Jim Kiick! Probably the best tandem ever in the NFL. Back when football was sports instead of politics.
Cutter & Ms C
One of a kind and unstoppable!
My childhood idol!
One on one You Are NOT. Bringing him down!
He's still my favorite player in the NFL
There have been some great power runners throughout NFL history, but Zonk was the most powerful. I saw him knock Alan Page (or Carl Eller) airborne gor several yards in the Super Bowl. One game vs St. Louis he did the same number on All-Pro db Roger Wehrle. There were faster fullbacks, but NONE ran with more power than Larry Csonka.
Probably 100% chance it was Page. Allan Page weighed less than Zonk and played the run like he was on roller skates.
0:35 against the Cards in this video.
Dad used to call him “The Human Cannonball” 💣
That's a baaaaaad man right there. Brute freaking strength
Larry was my favorite player when I was 9 years old. Loved to watch him run over people !
I wish football was played like that today!
Ur not going to see a Fullback like Zonka He Was a Mother fn Beast
It's a shame Csonka didn't stay longer in the NFL. I believe him and Jim Kiick left Miami in their prime to go play in WFL . The WFL came along to try and compete with the NFL. They offered some star athletes of the NFL a boatload of money to try and draw them away from NFL to their new league to give it legitimacy.
.. Csonka and Kiick lost a good 3 years of prime playing years. Miami could have won another Super Bowl or 2 in the 1970s had Csonka and Kiick stayed there in Miami.
Not just Butch and Sundance, but Warfield left also. Warfield is arguably the best WR of that era, so it was a huge loss. The 1975 Dolphins were darned good too, even without those three. It's not likely, but it's also not a huge stretch, to think they could have picked up one more Super Bowl win if they'd kept the band together.
Csonka played for the Giants as well
Love how Dan Dierdorf
just waves goodbye
Best football fullback name ever.
