      Except when he met Roy Winston in the 1972 Viking game, Roy's hit on Larry almost decapitated him, one of the most brutal hits in the NFL, along with Carl kassulke brutal hit on Detroit Lions quarterback Greg Landry, they didn't call then the purple people eaters for nothing!!!!

    I'll never forget the time that Larry Csonka got flagged for unnecessary roughness. There was Mike Curtis was the only obstacle between Csonka and the end zone. Larry chose to run through that obstacle and got flagged. Most ridiculous penalty of the day. Loved watching Larry bowl people over.

    When I hear beast mode today when describing running backs it drives me nuts. You had three backs who ran hard all the time; Csonka, Campbell and the great Walter Payton. Could have highlights from a dozen other backs who ran just as hard in the day.

    Czonka was just rugged, he just didn’t go down, and that forearm shot of that he would use to shed tacklers was brutal.

    Listen Tom Brady is GREAT no doubt.
    But does anybody realistically think he would have played til he’s 45 let alone at the level he did if he was subjected to this level of punishment. Any QB stats pretty much from 2005 til Present are inflated through rule changes that heavily favored the Offense in particular the QB.

    I remember when Fredd Young destroyed Raiders WR/KR Jessie Hester (0.58) as if it was yesterday. Fredd was the Hawks best LB in the 80's and we should have paid him as such instead of Brian Bosworth. Go Hawks

      LT the athletic ability he had was a thing of beauty to watch. I'm a Broncos fan and we have Von Miller, he is fast but LT was always in position and could move side to side backwards so easy. Like he wasn't even trying.

      Blame the coaches and Father's in last 40 years of watching ESPN highlights. 1974 I was in 7th grade. Our helmets were 8 plastic straps that were snapped into top of helmet that snapped into a band that went around you forehead. Plastic chinstrap that didn't help but keep helmet from turning. Last thing you were taught was to tackle with your head. Actually 2 3 years before that, you tackle with your shoulder and wrap. You see players that have chinstrap not snapped on tight. Would you bat or let you kid bat without a helmet. That's what was funny. Batters helmets were snug . I got hit in head and it just tingled. Put a mask and chinstrap and ok. Even in 76 as Freshman. We had helmets from 10 years ago.
