  • It’s an incredibly rare thing for an NFL team to remain undefeated throughout the entirety of a season. In fact, ever since the incorporation of the playoff system in 1932, only one team has ever done it: The 1972 Miami Dolphins. In their seventh season overall and their third in the NFL, the Dolphins laid waste to every team that came their way, including the venerable Washington Redskins (who were recently renamed as the Washington Commanders) in Super Bowl VII. From incredible coaching to an impeccable team filled with players who had mastered their respective roles, there were many reasons that contributed to their perfect season. But what followed such perfection? We’re here to delve into the career trajectories of the 1972 team and see what they all look like today.

1972. A great time to be a NFL fan. So many great players back then. Just saying.

I was a young kid then ( 6 years old),but I remember parts of it.
I was born in 66. Just like the Dolphins were "born" in 66.
I guess no wonder I'm a lifelong(and lately suffering) Dolphins Fan.

My favorite team as a kid. The World Football League ruined the Dolphins when they lost czonka, kick, and I think warfield. They were never the same.

The Dolphins might have won a couple of more Super Bowls in the mid 1970’s if the WFL had not raided their roster and stolen their star players. At the very least, they would have mounted a strong challenge to the Steeler dynasty of the mid 70’s, if they were able to keep their championship team intact. The WFL was nothing more than a damn nuisance, and a damn joke. Nevertheless, they ruined Coach Shula’s championship Dolphins ball club.

This was an extremely balanced and well rounded team and their mental toughness was unmatched at the time. If they didn't lose the trio the WFL in 1975 they would have won more Super Bowls. Sadly their greatness was largely overshadowed by the Pittsburgh Steeler dynasty that came right afterwards.

Dick Anderson and Jake Scott warrant inclusion in this Dolphins video!! They were two members of the no name defense as well!! Important contributors to that successful season!!

Without Dick Anderson and Jake Scott they don't go undefeated and don't win the Superbowl. Anderson lead them in tackles and Scott lead the league in interceptions.

Manny Fernandez is probably the most entertaining guy on those team. Him and Csonka went into the Everglades, caught an alligator and put it in Shula’s shower.

"As a new teenager that year, young people take their home team very, very seriously. When the Dolphins defeated my new team the Washington Redskins to win the Superbowl and complete the only undefeated season in NFL history, I can truly say that I have never really got over that loss. The sight of any dolphin in the sea or on TV makes me sick........lol

Nick Buoniconti, Jim Kiick, Bill Stanfil, Earl Morrall and Jake Scott have all passed away from CTE related illnesses. Nick Buoniconti had said as he declined that he wished he never had played football.

im a phins fan through and through, but don shula doesnt have a "SAFE" lead in the most winning coach, i would love for him to hold it for the rest of time, but that pole smoker for the patriots is most likely gonna surpass him in 3-4 years at the most
