Another great video Andrew. The war vehicles looked in good order. What the US did with Agent Orange to get rid of some of the trees etc had massive underlying consequences for the local people with birth defects etc. I don't think it was the US's finest hour!
Yes the vehicles were in good shape. I assume they are maintained well and was surprised they had no rust, unlike a lot of other metal things we have seen. Agreed, Agent Orange created huge problems for the Vietnamese people. The Vietnam (American) war was definetly not a good moment in US history. Another reason I am glad to be a Canadian. I agree agent orange was horrible and what it did to the citizens and the Vietnamese families. It was wrong of them to use those chemicals. Another awful decision by LBJ and General Westmoreland
If you have wondered why Americans lost the war in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, you don't need to go far to find out. The innocent people who suffered the most. They joined North Vietnamese, Khmer Rouge and Laosian communist party to fight the Americans. They won at the end due to barbarian acts of the American military in those countries.
I would agree that the war for hearts and minds did not go well. As I mentioned in the video, in these types of wars... it's the civilians that suffer most and as a fan of Machiavelli... I sure understand...
I see many familiar pieces of military hardware. I have flown on the CH 47 helicopter and have also received training on the maintenance of that helicopter. I was stationed at Con Thein cam lo and Quang Tri military bases. While T Con Thein I remember seeing one of the very large Allis Chalmers dozens on the north end of the base that had been destroyed during one of the many battles with the communist north Vietnamese. I'm sure the communist have their own propaganda version of the events. Our only reason for being is South Vietnam was to assist our ally. Another fact about the war LBJ micro managed the bombing of the war in the north Vietnam. Had the bombing been properly conducted the bombing should have been done as was the bombing that was done during world War two in Germany and Japan. Having said that the war should have been over in six months. When north Vietnam stopped the aggression on south Vietnam and only then should the massive bombing of north Vietnam been stopped. That is what should have happened. Instead LBJ picked targets like bridges and never really destroyed the true military targets. That is the fact in this matter.
@andrewabroad50 I remember when LBJ went on television claiming that one of our navy ships had been attacked in the gulf of Tonkin. It was later determined that was a made up story. After I had been drafted into the military and was in the class room training portion of this training I remember the training also including speeches that LBJ had made previously about why we were in South Vietnam supporting our ally.
