    I use light diffuser material before the substrate just in case a rock was to fall over in order to protect the bottom from getting a crack.

    • @TheFishCorner

    🤔structure is best pit on top of lighting defuser. It allows for the weight to be evenly distributed and elevates pressure points.

    • @TheFishCorner
      @TheFishCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve heard that before, but the lighting diffuser makes gravel vacuuming a nightmare. I can definitely understand the theory but I can’t bring myself to using it. How do you fair with your maintenance?

    • @thomasedwards9101
      @thomasedwards9101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheFishCorner when I use it in a tank with sand or dirt I’ll cover the entire bottom of the tank with it. Then pour the sand/dirt over it. This way the fish can dig all the war to the bottom causing the rocks to become unstable and possibly falling over killing my fish or damaging my tank.
      When I use it in a tank with gravel as the substrate I will place it just under where the large ricks are. Gravel vacuuming the tank is never a issue with me. I can still get the detritus around the rocks I just have to a little slower and be a bit more careful. But I also have a tend to put the gravel in thick to help promote beneficial bacteria growth.

    Hey I was reading somewhere that the gravel like that you use from home Depot and Lowes is very high in PH. To further say that gravel is perfect for Chiclids. I have fresh water fish that don't require a very high PH. Is this true about that gravel you use, is it higher in PH rather than something like an eco complete gravel?

    • @TheFishCorner
      @TheFishCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest bro. I don’t know what the PH is on any of the gravel I’m using. To be even more honest, I very seldom do tests on my water. I’ve been in the hobby so long that I just feel it out, it my tank is having a problem. Then I will test my water but other than that. I don’t chase numbers. If the fish are healthy and happy. I just keep rockin and rollin.
      I will tell you this though. I haven’t had any problems whatsoever with the river pebbles purchased from lowes. I try to stay away from substrate that indicates it raises the PH.
      You should use whatever substrate you like. I went with river pebbles because I was filling up a 240 and the price was right, the pebbles look great. Also I like change, I had red gravel first, now I have river pebbles. Once I get tired of this I’ll change it again. I don’t keep the same setup for extended periods of time. 🤷🏾‍♂️

      @@TheFishCorner Cool, thanks for answering me. I've been breeding fish for years now. Trying to grow and gain knowledge along the way for everyone and their personal experiences. Learning something new everyday in my book is positive.
      I just recently came across your TH-cam channel and I can tell you know what you're doing. I've thought many times about the Lowes river pebbles but was unsure so I stayed away. But now that I know it works for you, it gives me the confidence to use that in my next big tank.
      I also agree with what you said about numbers, if the fish are happy let em be without the stress of playing the numbers game. " Don't fix what isn't broken".
      Thanks brother for the advice, keep doing your thing and I look forward to more videos from you.
