    Such great ideas. One of the neatest 125s I've personally seen was a tank LOADED with java moss and java fern. It had natural stumps with a group of large red belly piranhas. All the green really set off the wood and the piranhas sparkle and red. Thanks for another great video. 👍

    Good video! I set up a 125 a few months ago. Great size tank. I went with peacocks and haps. Long time fish keeper 1st time Cichlid tank. Not full grown but beautiful all male. Love this tank. Down side is I have a red shoulder peacock that is insane. I named him Satan. It got so bad he was trying to kill an OB and sunshine peacock. I had to take all the fish out of a 60 gallon tank and combine them in my 75 gal. Now Satan lives in the 60 with 1 bristle nose Pleco. I tried to move him back to the 125 and he went crazy. At 1st the OB he used to bully got the upper hand. Within 30 minutes Satan was back in charge and chasing anything that moves. It’s crazy! He is not even full grown. He may have to go

    I know this video is 2 years old, but, Jason, there’s no reason to perpetuate the “poor man’s discus” nonsense. Severums have their own thing going. They don’t look like discus. They’re not sensitive weaklings like discus. They’re awesome fish that stand on their own and definitely don’t deserve to be referred to as a lesser form of another fish.

    Rainbow fish!...A M.boesemani or M. trifasciata aka Goyder River can reach a chunky 5+"..kept in groups they can get great use of a 6' long tank. Good with most plants but tender leafed like Triparta?- Rainbows will eat them faster than they grow..but most common aquarium plants work perfect and of course Rainbows do no digging. Rainbows,Roselines,Garras,Clown Loaches..sort of a standard combo and why not? They go perfectly together.

    I know this is an older video so I doubt you guys see this comment lol. But I am cycling a 120 gallon tank right now. I plan on in a powerhead and adding a bunch of river rock to sit on top of the sand, also gonna add slightly bigger field stones and some drift wood. Of course I am gonna heavily plant the tank. I am doing a multispecies community tank and was hoping for some ideas for fish. I do know i will probably end up with 3 or 4 pictus catfish. I am trying to stay in the South American river regions if that helps at all.

    There’s many cool Thoricthys species. Maculipinnis are back in hobby and others available. Cicalasoma (old name) Robertsoni is another beautiful fish. Some of the best colors on an American cichlid.
    My thing is West African cichlids..Many don’t make good community fish but very underrated. Chromidotilapia soecies, Limbochromis, Rarer Hemichromis like Guinea 1 or 2, Steatocranus species, larger Pelvicachromis Humilis etc..Lots of more peaceful dwarfs too like P. Taeniatus, Analachromis Thomasi, Nanochromis. Some West Africans are one species but numerous color morphs like the P. Taeniatus. I’ve kept/bred Moliwe, Nigeria Red, Wouri, Kierke, Lobe. Really nice fish.

    Sir one question!
    I have 4 gouramis (2+2 kissing and dwarf)
    1 big tinfoil barb
    2 severum
    2 Milky koi
    And 1 rainbow shark black
    The problem i noticed is that, the rainbow shark runs behind the Gouramis, ultimately nipping them.
    So I am planning to give it back to the fish seller.
    Which fish should I buy, that would not harras others that I have in my tank?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on the size of the tank. Just looking at the fish I would assume they are in a 125 or larger (or will be at some point)? The kissing gouramis may be your next issue - those dudes are mean as they get older. :-) The Koi will eventually need a pond.

      I think that could work. I had them all together in my 150 for a long time with no issues. Full grown - it's hard to say. If you have multiple males for either the geos or the severums they may chase each other around a lot. If you can get a males with a couple females that might work better?

    Great vid!! I have a question: I want to use 2 200 watt heaters on my 48 inch 64 gallon tank, instead of 1 300 watt heater. I am told this is better. Not sure why. Do I set each heater on identical settings or differently. Thanks for any advice.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is the best way to do it, but I would set them exactly the same otherwise one will always be on the the other off. The best way to run them both is to have an independent thermostat that can turn them on and off at the same time.

    All fish 1-2 inches
    1 tiger Oscar
    1 blood parrot
    2 severums
    1 pleco
    Can I add another cichlid? Schooling fish? If so what? Or am I maxed out?

    Great Video. I have just set up a 100 Gallon tank with a Juvenile Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, Salvini, convict , Blood Parrot , Green Texas and a Oscar. Is there anything here you think won’t work?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tough to say for sure. Sometimes a combo like that works ok, other times you get a really aggressive male or two and the whole tank is a mess. If they are all males you could have decent amount of aggression. They will all grow quickly. If you have a 6ft 100 gallon, that will put you in a better spot.

    Can I put Bichirs in with Acara, Geophagus, and Severums, Synadonis catfish, Plecos ?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing you may have to deal with is the bichir being out-competed for food. They other fish will probably be much more aggressive eater. Also, just have to make sure the fish you choose won't fit into the bichirs mouth when full grown.

    So I have recently got 6 viejas syspilums which are a mix of sizes... 1"-3". and a honey comb pleco. Planning on putting them into a 110 gallon. and calling it quits on stocking besides my bottom clean up crew. Hoping that I will be fine in the future, and if anyway you could do a video on what is best for there care; due to limited research on the web ive found on these fish. still needing equipment gravel and decor before I can add my fish in. IF you think I can succeed breeding these fish with other species involved please lmk. breeding them is eventually the end goal. I heard you out about pairs and that has made me think about using a 70 gal for spare tank.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your ideas will work. I would leave them on their own and if you have aggression issues you can move the pair to the 70 like you mentioned. The Vieja in the video were in a 120 gallon I believe.

    So many of these fish are on my wish list. But, I can't find them to buy them. I love my severums but, I can only find Greens and golds locally. Vieja synspilum, green phantom pleco and that loach all seem to he my holy grail. If find them, their either too expensive or they're sold through different online sellers and the total in shipping kills the vibe of buying. I wish I could fine all these fish at one seller who had decent prices. Help!!

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya, some of them are a little harder to find at an LFS. The Wet Spot usually has many of these fish, but the shipping cost is always an issue.

    Are there any cichlid species that crossbreed with one another (or any random cichlid)? Do these (if any) need to be kept away from one another due to negative cross breeding results?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely can happen with African cichlids of similar types. Certainly, it can happen within the same genus of South/Central American cichlids as well. As they become more dissimilar it happens less.
