@@GenerationTech WEG west end games Star Wars, Campaign Source book and Ships of the Galaxy.
" 5minute dog fight equals to 20minutes of down time for maintenance. Dog fights lasting an hour will burn a day's worth of hyperspace fuel. Most star fighters average out with one hour flight patrols needing up to 240minutes/4hr of overhaul down time."
Ship also had a maneuver rating per 6second action round. T/E interceptors were nearly 4x faster than stander commercial cargo ships and get 12 actions compare to 3/with co-pilot you get 6.
WotC 3e Star Wars early 2000's, Ships of the Galaxy was ok and fun to play around with.
WotC 4e Saga Edition suck and had a bunch of limitations which the first two books didn't have.
Creating unbalance encounter ships are fun, Saga crack down on that.
All current editions of Star Wars still keep the average travel time from a planet to its nearest moon, base off of earth to moon distance flown within 30minutes.
WEG was done with abstracted dice pool to settle actions out comes, but space combat speed was set in hard numbers for nerds to power game number crunch.
Just traveling at 12km/s to break atmosphere into orbit the T/E fighter navigation deflector moves space dust moving 2.7x faster than the A-10 wart hog main anti-tank canon out of its flight path. Now factor in human reflex times at notice laser weapon locks on your craft and dodge/ rolling out of the way for how far range you can attack from.
2.) My past two game shops take the Falcon as base and add a set of quad booster engines for interceptor speed blockage runner speeds. We bent the rules to near breaking for engine speed/ weight size tonnage. In short it cost 1,000credits just to turn all the booster engines on. Then 8,000credits per 10minutes of flight. With 16 engines set in four sets of quads emplacements. Down time was measure in days after 30minutes of emergency flight speed.
b.) WEG lore on hyperspace travel detection and tracking, .. in short we created a 9m/20ft missile that could be fire in hyperspace to run down an escaping ship like Star Trek firing at warp9. cost 10,000credits.
" Relax, we just jump into hyperspace, there is no way they can track this ship. Wait a minute .. what is that gaining on us ?"
Smuggler, " Lady they just fired six missile that cost twice what this ship was worth bran new, if I knew they wanted you this bad. I would have took the job at half you were willing to pay me."

NOW you have the Millennium Falcon.

A few other notes from legends (at least from the books I've read):
One of the droid brains that helped control the ship's systems was sourced from a CIS tri-fighter control ship
Part of the hull was rebuilt from a YT-1300P, the passenger variant of the YT-1300 after the falcon (then called the Stellar Envoy) smashed into a larger freighter in orbit above Nar Shada
At one point the ship's digital control relays were ripped out and replaced with fluidics, then the fluidics were ripped out and replaced again
The holo chess table and smuggling compartments were installed by a crime boss who once owned the ship
A Jedi during the clone wars made modifications to the navigation system to track down a secret treasure which was supposed to help restore the Republic should it fall
At one point before Han's ownership the falcon was decorated with war paint and used by a missionary healer to help a primitive tribe fight back against an oppressive force
The landing struts have been repaired and replaced several times
I recommend reading Brian Daily's Han Solo trilogy and Millennium Falcon, which are the sources of this bit of falcon lore

Don't forget the placement of the turrets that always has a role in a battle because the millennium falcon can hit you from everywhere because the turrets have a 360° view and rotation (if you put the sencor that lando had it would be even better) and can almost rotate at 90° so the only thing that you can do is having a very short ship and go in between of those turrets and dangerously close to not get hit and that is if the ship isn't moving
Unlike the venator let's say that his armament is on it's sides and the upper part only the belly is undefended and if you say that it has missiles i agree but they aren't for ever

If you include Legends in the mix, the history of this ship goes SO much further, and actually explains a lot of the weirdness of the Millennium Falcon and how it actually should NOT be considered a good example of a production YT-1300.
The ship started off as YT-1300 designation YT 492727ZED, and was operated by the Corell Industries Limited Shipping Company under various names. Under this owner the ship that would eventually become the Millennium Falcon was kept stock, apart from minor modifications to try and wrangle this "hot-blooded", temperamental ship. Yes, the Falcon was a lemon from the start, and future modifications would only further hurt its reliability. This was actually due to an incident when the ship was fresh off the line, a refueling droid failed to stop filling the tanks when it was supposed to, resulting in a fuel overflow the VERY first time it was ever fueled up. And yes, it is possible that the ship was used to push cargo containers. Again, I do not believe that was the original design intent but it's more than likely an "ascended" repurposing, with CEC adding it to the list of many roles this versatile ship class can handle.
After Corell Industries went bankrupt, YT 492727ZED ended up in the hands of various independent pilots. Some had great success with this ship, setting record times and winning races, while others... got marooned on a desert planet with a load of frozen fish. These pilots of course would make their own small modifications here and there. Nothing too big, but they added up over time.
Kal and Dova were the first named owners of the ship, the first to use it for smuggling, and the first to upgrade the hyperdrive in any significant fashion, during which the ship flew under the names _Jackpot,_ _Hardwired_ and _Wayward Son_ before Kal's death in 44BBY
In 29BBY the ship came under the ownership of the Republic Group, under the name _Stellar Envoy._ In Legends the ship is in fact confirmed to have made a background appearance in Revenge of the Sith, but I won't really go into detail as that's a bit of a point of contention and it's not really a relevant moment. As the Stellar Envoy the hyperdrive was upgraded further.
Then came the infamous crash. Offscreen but near the end of the events of Revenge of the Sith, the ship was sent to Nar Shaddaa on a secret mission where, upon leaving hyperspace, it impacted against the hull of the bulk freighter _Jenridian Valley III._ This left the ship a wreck with only the rear end salvageable. And THIS is where the shear craziness of how heavily modified the Falcon became started.
The _Stellar Envoy_ was purchased as scrap by Bammy Decree, a starship technician working for a crime lord. The ship was rebuilt using components from another wrecked YT-1300, specifically a YT-1300P, and once again used for smuggling - this is most likely when many of the changes to the ship's interior layout took place, giving it an interior that's far less efficient for cargo hauling than a stock YT-1300F, but better for passenger transport and high-value low-volume goods transport. However, the ship was captured in its first mission as the _Second Chance_ and impounded by the Empire. And the the Rebel Alliance got their hands on it.
Stealing it from the impound yard, the ship was once again renamed, this time to the _Gone to Pieces._ The Alliance is also the owners that gave it its final, iconic name, the _Millennium Falcon._ That wasn't the end of the story, though, because obviously it was not in the hands of the Alliance when Lando got his hands on it.
Quip Fargil was assigned to fly the _Millennium Falcon,_ but he got cold feet during an operation and deserted, taking the _Falcon_ with him. In guilt, he gave the ship to Dr. Parlay Thorpe, who used it as a frontier hospital ship. Thorpe was the one who equipped the ship with its bacta tank and extensive medical facilities.
Thorpe eventually sold it to Molpol's Traveling Circus, where it was used as the pleasure yacht of the circus owner. However, during a Sabbac tournament, he lost the ship to another player as collateral, who in turn lost it to ANOTHER player, who in turn lost it to Lando. Lando continued to use it as a pleasure yacht, and under his ownership the ship was fitted with many of its current upgrades, until it became the ship seen in Solo... or something similar at least.
And then we all know how Han got it and what he did to it.
And that's the "Star Fax". I guess that means you can call me the "Star Fox"? Get it?
    ...I'll see my way out...

Seeing this makes me wish for a modern ship-based Star Wars MMO. Imagine starting with a humble OEM freighter and steadily modding it throughout your career until you have a beast like the YV-929 that makes any port official's eyes start bulging out. It'd be like your own cozy heavy hauler home that just so happens to have a bolted-on naval cannon. Scale that up to guilds & even player-led corps that can collectively field their own fleets and the possibilities are endless.
Then again, maybe I just want Star Wars with EVE shenanigans like a player corp hijacking an ISD, painting it with sand camouflage, and naming it Vader's Mild Discomfort. Or Death Squadron suddenly getting jumped by a player-led fleet the size of the B-R5RB Bloodbath.

Since it usually isn't actually carrying cargo, it would just be the main cab/motor. HEAVILY armored plating, and turret guns capable of taking out cars in a few shots. An engine capable of outspeeding most police interceptor vehicles despite its size, and enough fuel stock for long journeys at higher speeds. And add in some kind of super computer for running its systems such that its 'expert driver' could basically just turn the wheel in donuts and it would still self navigate to its destination.

I'd also substantially increase the armor, shielding, and armament, buying aftermarket cannons, having spare backup shields (in case one goes, the next in line can immediately jump into action), and tactically acquiring capital ship grade armor plating from a scrapyard. Finally, I'd modify the front to be able to carry a loyal vulture droid wingman (or two if I can fit two).

Last time I checked according to the lore predating the newer films I remember that the ship was supposedly fitted with the brain from an R5 droid, which accounted for it's "peculiar dialog". The deflector ironically was "borrowed" from an imperial source until later the dish from a CR90 Corvette was installed following the battle of Endor. I remember catching the same information about the hot-wiring of feeding raw power directly into the weapons from the power core. Supposedly this was an illegal modification. Guaranteed that because it was declared to be a pirate ship in it's initial concept, were an inspector to board this vessel he'd find everything on it to be a violation. I'd hate to pay that ticket and spend that jail time. What blew my mind was finding the original concept art of the Millennium Falcon and it's worth noting that while the CR90 was originally going to be that ship (thus the blueprints differ in both respects). Obviously they changed their plans for legal reasons, thus we have the legend we have today. It establishes that the side walls are about roughly from foot to hip in height with the mandibles being considerably beefier.
During the filming of Empire Strikes Back, the mock up built for the stages of Hoth and Bespin was built at only 1/3 the actual size with the only canon size version constructed being the partial built for the A New Hope set. What this means is the scene where Han is standing between the mandibles is only slightly larger than the actual side wall height and considerably smaller in the mandibles. Also, a fun fact is that this mock up being unfinished also led to the stories of the Pembroke UFO sightings. One of the means they had of moving it was connecting pipe lines to a compressor throughout the body so that when needed, one person could easily push the set Falcon around. Think Air Hockey, since it's where they got the idea. This also led to one footnote in that story of the Falcon where they described this happening.
If I recall correctly, the ship's current unique appearance inside and out was penned out by someone who studied under Wernher Von Braun. NASA engineer and founder. His work also gave rise to other familiar ship interiors of the 70's and 80's, including the Nostromo. Reality is such a strange thing.

That's only partially true. There's actually several factors.
Yes, the droid brains hated each other.
They also had one commonality between each other - their hate for the Empire. Which is actually the Legends explanation for why the ship refused to jump to hyperspace in Empire Strikes Back. It didn't want to run, it wanted to stay and fight.
And then there's the fact that the ship had an infamous Compression Coil (TM) for all your inconvenient starship breakdown needs, found in multiple Sci-Fi universes including Star Wars, Stargate and Firefly. Also, some of the adaptors for the motivator were the wrong spec.

There was a scene where to test the new shields he hovered a bit off the ground, retracted the landing struts, and then shut off the repulsorlifts and bounced the full weight of the Falcon off the ground. And in another book, he replaced the quad laser cannons with turbolasers. Basically, he took advantage of his war hero status and Leia's position in the new government to get all the best toys for the Falcon.

      Yeah.
I wonder if center cockpit interferes with the cargo mandibles.
A while ago I had a fanfic idea of space pirates robbing the cargo shuttle from Rogue One. They would use a passenger version of YT-1300 so the crew had room for gunners and tractor beam operators, and mandible operators to snatch the crates. Then I wondered about a sister ship to be modded specifically as a gunship to provide cover. One would be port, and the other starboard cockpit to keep track.

It does, as the access hatch normally used for loading cargo via the short-ranged tractor beam array in the mandibles is replaced with the cockpit corridor. Not a tow vehicle, a tug vehicle. Towing is pulling from the bow in front of the cargo, tugging is guiding from different directions, pulling from the bow, changing direction by pushing on the starboard and port sides or pushing forward from the stern and in the case of big cargo, like say guiding a cruise ship into a small port, four or more tugs are used.

We never get too much of a story of the Slave I which is a pity. As a former police enforcement vehicle, its capabilities are amazing.

Anakin and Solo aren't that different as guys that like to upgrade things, as well as Chewie. At the same age, these guys as a team would've been formidable smugglers.

The final upgrade is probably the least-noticed, the pilots. Chewbacca managed to sneak that souped-up spacedock forklift across the Force-bedamned battle of Yavin and along the lightly-defended surface corridor that had JUST been roused to full alarm by the Rebel attack. He then managed to line her up behind the squadron being piloted by the literal best spacefighter in the Galaxy who could use the Force to maintain battlefield awareness. Then Han Solo, terrifying blank spot in the Force, shot Vader's wingman.
If you don't think something weird is going on with Han and the Force, remember that he managed to _surprise_ Vader when Solo and company were lead to him at Cloud City. Vader knows they're approaching, has time to prepare, and Han still manages to whip out his blaster and SHOOT the Sith Lord. Vader had his light saber with him, but he ended up having to block the shot with his left hand. Yes, it looked badass as hell and really drove home how fucked everybody was, but it wasn't the best tactical move, even for a drama lord like Vader. It would have been just as scary o have Han whip up and shoot and have Vader deflect the shot elsewhere, like at Han's feet since he didn't want to break the merchandise. A prepared Darth Vader was outdrawn by Han Solo, and you can't tell me different.

I see lots of potential for improvement concerning the quad cannon design. Instead of a single mode firing rate like portrayed so far in Star Wars they could be modified or redesigned for combined cycle select fire operation. They could fire two barrels at a time like portrayed or they could be switched to all four at a time to increase lethality against larger ships or ground targets or to reduce collateral damage. To be more effective against fighters it could also operate as a rotating cycle cannon or Gatling gun with a drastically improved firing rate that could more easily hit small fast moving targets.
These are features mentioned several times regarding the X-Wing type ships in EU or “Legends” and could be designed into any multi barreled gun.
