    An artists concept of an ancient, advanced tactical fighter, the starwars universe, was very old and had very advanced technology, shields and anti grav , sophisticated robots , warp space capability, i think the t.i.e. fighter is a Brilliant design, thank you for building the model

      It's well enough designed that it, generally, goes together very easily. But, if you're like me and you get in a rush, the panel spokes can be a real headache.

    You can just use the top cover then.
    Or a different box or a Rubbermaid container.
    Literally so many options for growth.

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's not so much a question of access to the box. Yes, I can put the pieces in another box, or rubbermaid.
      It's an issue of size. I have a fairly large space, so I can put the box top off to one side.
      Other builders only have a little space, so then picking up, spinning to the correct side, then stowing the box top somewhere becomes a whole different propsition.

    Built this 2 years ago. Was missing a wing sprew...But had a duplicate, so I had holes where the wings connect together. Luckily those holes were covered by spoke supports. Other than that GREAT kit.

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Having duplicates, or similar parts you can sub, is always nice.
      This one actually had a bunch of damage to the other edge pieces of the panels. luckily I was able to repair or hide it all.

    I mark parts before removing them from the runners. I use part numbers and may also add arrows to show orientation, or ‘R’ ‘L’ ‘up’ dwn’ etc etc.
    Helps a lot when parts are similar, or optional.

    Needs a dark panel line wash and dry brush.on the solar panels

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  หลายเดือนก่อน

      After looking at a number of studio model shots I opted not to, but it was an early consideration. However, on the panels inparticular, I used a black primer and much thinner base coat so the recessed areas have a slightly darker appearance.

  • @svensvensson2724

    This kit is basically a 2 in 1.
    There's the outer shape, fairly similar to the studio model, but in smaller scale.
    Then there's a miniature version of the full scale set of the cockpit, complete with misaligned rear window.
    I personally would have preferred having the correct window from the model.
    I like being able to see straight through the windscreen and rear hatch, or the other way around.
    But I'm probably the minority on that.

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean, it feels like a missed opportunity on AMT's part.

    • @svensvensson2724
      @svensvensson2724 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JasonsSpaceDock I really would love to see the original rear hatch where the pilot walks in from the rear instead climbing throough the roof.
      That is cool as hell. But Probably never. I think only the old AMT Interceptor used that design.
      An actual 1:24 studio replica would be awesome too, but they would need clearance to use the Airfix Harrier pilot and maybe from wherever the decals come.
      That's a costly legal mess, unfortunately.

    My mother bought a Tie Interceptor from 1981 at a yard sale in 2012. I built it, the interceptor was missing the glass for the cockpit so I made my own. It is black and gray, highly detailed, with red wing's. My nephew still has it after 12 year's. I think he's almost done with college?

  • @ALookBackInTime

    Great build and template when I attempt to do my own soon. Any insight on the photoetch set? I literally just ordered this kit and saw the photoetch set available for this model. No one has a video on it yet.

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Given what's in the PE set, and how detailed the model already is, I wouldn't bother with the extra expanse.
      Now, if it came with the floor piece it would absolutely be worth it. Save you all that masking, to illuminate the floor.
      And , if you really want those inner displays lit, it's pretty much your best bet.

    9:32 We have no idea in Star Wars Legends (The Expanded Universe) from any technical manual what those tubes are. They are literally unlabelled in all SW media. The most convincing argument I've heard is that they are alarm lights.

    I looked hard at the kit last time I was at the museum where I buy a lot of my stash. Couldn't bring myself to spend the $130 Cdn on it.
    My daughter went and bought me the smaller AMT offering for my birthday, which was OK til I found out it cost $55 !!! NO F'N WAY is a 6" AMT Tie Fighter worth that. I figured $30 max.
    Meanwhile, I'm building the ancient cutaway Aluminum Falcon x2, one is more warped than the other so no interior layout for that one. Not even dealing with the sidewalls...

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is frustrating, at times, dealing with the significant price hikes in Canada.
      I have strong opinions on the cost of 40 year old reissues as well...
      Good luck with the Falcon, I'll be tackling it in a series of lives...at some point.

    The pilot looks undersized in the cockpit Like it's too spacious in there and the walls of the cockpit should be closer to them. Never thought of it before because in Star Wars the shots of the TIEs are either interiors or too far away to see cockpit interior through the viewport....

    Man those details look soft! Like melted butter. This is a new tool kit? If it is it's unacceptable. When you get 2x the detail in a Bandai or Fine Molds at smaller scales you know AMT/Round2 is lazy. Why let them get away with it?

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don't know that it's that soft. Like there's no comparing north american producers to a Bandai, they're not even in the same league.
      But, relative to kits produced 10-15 years ago, this is a HUGE improvement.

    • @thebadguy1977
      @thebadguy1977 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't get the CONSTANT dumping on round 2 4 making these kits. They r not soft they are crisp as america gets and then some. Goes together well. Same thing with the Razor Crest. These are top quality kits but it seems no matter what round 2 does they get measured by their 67 gto kit and people dump on. Take these kits enjoy the hell out of them and make some modeling memories. Seriously. Or go pay twice the cost at half the size and spend your days counting your rivets!

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Round 2 should definitely be called out when the product is no good...or they skip something obvious.
      But these new tooling are pretty solid. I can't speak to the Razor Crest because I don't have one. But this TIE is solid.
      I'm hoping the Cerritos is as good...whenever it arrives!

  • @RMillerism
    @RMillerism 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I'm going to nitpick here, nothing to do woth the build,that's great. But the TIE Fighter is a terrible design. There is no side or rear vision for the pilot. Before people say, "But VR vision" let's remember that wasn't even a concept in 1977.

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I feel like that's endemic of a number of early star wars designs. With the offset cockpit, the falcon is another example. Definitely form over function.
      They are visually interesting, though!

    • @literallyunderrated
      @literallyunderrated 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Let’s also remember that Star Wars doesn’t take place in 1977. It happens a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, where they have all that stuff and more

    AMT. Uilds garbage models. Flash, misalignmenting parts and just a general piss poor quality. They take an iconic space craft put it in 1/32 scale then butcher the whole kit by making it a Snap-Tite. Pathetic. He did a wonderful job though. 👍👍

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As I said to someone with a similar comment, you're definitely correct. In general AMT is meh, at best. Especially old kits, or unmodifed reissues.
      The new stuff, like actually new and developed in the last couple of years is pretty decent. Like I had certain expectations, given the branding, going in. So I was pleasantly surprised with the overall quality.

  • @MrDeadhead1952

    • @mattalki
      @mattalki 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Bandai doesn't make anything like this. Their Tie Fighter is tiny in comparison. Also, this kit from Round2 is actually pretty darned nice. I'm in the process of building one, and I can tell you right now that anything from Bandai or Revell would have a tough time being 'better', they'd just be different.

    • @JasonsSpaceDock
      @JasonsSpaceDock  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm sorry to disagree, but I have a 1/72 Bandai Tie Fighter. Though it's EXCELLENT, given the small scale it isn't actually more detailed/crisper. However, i it is EXCEPTIONAL for the small scale. And, if Bandai ever made a larger scale one, I'm sure the 1/32 Studio Series one would pale in comparison.
