Perhaps going on and filming the book of Acts weren't even in Dallas' mind at the time he started writing and filming the first seasons. And perhaps there's a plan for that now. In that case introducing Mathias and Barsabas now is "better late than never". Just a thought. 😊

I only recently discovered The Chosen and watched season 1-3 over the last 2 weeks whilst off work must say it has been brilliant! Hope they keep the good work!
The Asian seller makes sense. She has many bottles of different shape and value which might be filled also with expensive anointing oil, made out of spikenard which comes also from Asia...so this might be in deed a further hint that this scene was with Martha and Mary...

Too difficult of a scene to do without looking cheesy and too much CGI per Dallas.

I think this scene is before Laz is sick, where Martha was asking Jesus to tell her sister to help her.
The Laz scene where he rises from the dead, is closer to his last week, season 5 or6
The scene where Martha is telling Mary to help her hapoens after Lazarus rises from the dead, a day before the Triumphal entry.
20:30 Perhaps this sequence is following Jesus saying it's time to go to Bethany, where the disciples are concerned about the authorities being mad at Jesus (post Hanukkah). It certainly jives with Big James's injury. Recall in the passage it's Thomas who tells the others "Let's go die with Him." That could be what he's talking with John about.
When God heals, He makes whole so Lazarus would be healthy after resurrection from my believe based on Naaman

Perhaps they can work in "from the very beginning" to mean they were among JtB's disciples who witnessed the baptism etc, but for whatever reason were not directly called by Jesus to be part of the Twelve--so they'd show up every once in a while to listen to Jesus, etc, but only now are they showing up with actual dialogue.
In fact, HERE'S an idea... perhaps Matthias and Barsabas will be the two would-be disciples who OFFER to follow Jesus but "first I gotta X Y Z," leading to His saying "the Son of Man has no place to lay his head" and "let the dead bury their own dead."
