Thanks so much. I have been trying to keep it simple for 30 years so I say things in ways that are tested on my students. Your chest would be open at impact. Not as much as the hips. In a golf swing you fire the lower body from the top. They are leading. They come to a complete stop just after impact. Let's say they are 30-45 degrees open. You shoulders are also open but not as much. With the hips stopped the rest of the body catches up at a point just after impact. I called this the release point. Now everything is in line and matches up. The hips then continue to rotate to complete the swing. Think snapping a towel. If so, the hand snapping it will make the snap then start back as the towel reaches the widest point to snap. Watch my hips in this tip and you will see it. th-cam.com/video/ya6ac-BuNhk/w-d-xo.html

Simple drill that shows you the position. Keep doing it until you get the co ordination with it. Also, think about firing the lower body not hitting. Thanks for the support. I appreciate it. Short game is easy (if you do it my way). Not sure I'm going to be giving that away on YT. Let me know the area of concern and I will explain what to do.
@@paulwilsongolf Paul, My wedge game is in shambles chipping and approach shots. Don't know if new clubs are the answer. but, as you know, I'm will ing to work hard at improvement. Coming across the ball with short shot drive me cray! Shank!
Exactly. People are trying to work on tricky moves once a week and wonder why they don't improve. It's never going to happen. Winter climate. Practice maybe once a week is only 26 practice sessions. 52 in a warmer climate. Those are best case scenarios. People are lazy and life happens so you can take 25% off those numbers. This is nowhere near enough to get good at anything. So you spend 5-10 mins daily working on something. This becomes addictive and you start working on it more than 5-10 mins. At this point you start making changes and get co ordinated with the moves. Then as you keep doing them you always do them.
I love this video! I believe it. I want to do it. But practice swings NEVER fully translate to the full swing. I can hardly ever do this. I’m about scratch because of short game and putting. But I get out of posture and stand up and don’t rotate nearly what I think I do. If I rotate first, I inevitably start the ball left and it usually goes left or a block. 😡 I need some more internal/external cues for this. Help?
I highly recommend this! I practiced this and took it to the course today. I converted it to starting my downswing with the left cheek of my arse . . . and then letting it rotate my left arm with loose wrists. I hit it 30mts further on my driver and also longer with all my hybrids. This is a winner! Thanks Paul. B
Very good. Like I said in the tip, you get this and you start doing what pros are doing. Didn't take long and you got it. This is what people don't realize. A few simple moves can dramatically change your shots. Keep up the good work.
Paul , another great instructional video where you make it easy to implement for amateurs. In your Body Swing program , that I purchased , you emphasize one of the key positions to attain is to touch the knees in the follow thru - would doing this take care of the rotation you are talking about in this video?
Glad you liked it. Thanks and thanks for picking up The Body Swing. I appreciate it. To answer your question, yes, but this is where you would be ending up if you did it. So know the position then as you hit the top this is the moment you are firing the lower. You can come down with the arms then fire. You need to make the move with the lower from the top getting you to the ending position. See this is a different though then hit the ball and trying to do the position too late in the downswing. I have had people do this well after they hit the ball. Again, this is way too late. If you do it from the top you get the first 45 degrees which allows you to get the second. Watch: th-cam.com/video/GhKr6Y8NHGo/w-d-xo.html That should explain it. Just keep doing perfect positions into the future in practice swings at home. It is about the movement. Get the movement ... you get the ball.
Your chest would be open at impact. Not as much as the hips. In a golf swing you fire the lower body from the top. They are leading. They come to a complete stop just after impact. I don't like purposely squatting. Won't necessarily fix early extension. I early extend but I don't want a tilted golf swing because it hurts my back. Didn't seem to bother Nicklaus as well as others as they have some early extension. I have actually worked on it. Need to feel like your chest is tilting closer to the ground coming down. Not sure how they even clear the club doing this. I have since stopped worrying about it. I'm probably 80% or higher in fairways hit and I rarely practice so I'm not sure how this could ever improve my swing as opposed to killing my back. Here are a couple videos I did on transition: th-cam.com/video/Kk63_fYSAMg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/GhKr6Y8NHGo/w-d-xo.html
I have been using your method and it has really helped me rotate through. I am pretty flexible and can move my hips fast and through a long way, but, my shoulders are square at impact not open. It is like my hips are way ahead of my upper body. Or, are my hands and arms not trailing enough?
If the hips are open as they should be where are your shots going? No distance, high, low etc. You're not saying if you still aren't hitting it as you should be. There are great players with their shoulders more square at impact. They are typically drawers of the ball though. If you want the shoulders more open then it would take more rotation. Like most people you are probably trying to hit a little with the arms which speeds them up and would cause them to not be open at impact. I am not trying to hit it at all. I fire the lower circular and quick. I don't even think of the shoulders but in video they are open as I hit the ball. So give me some more info and then we'll see if you need them more open or not.
@@paulwilsongolf After reading this I just kind of sequenced through the shot and I am fairly certain I am not getting my right shoulder down enough through impact so I am more than likely getting to the ball a little early. I hit the ball solid but it doesn't go as far as I would like lol, and yes I draw it. I used to come over the top horribly but have mostly worked that out of my swing, but, I think the right shoulder is a remnant of that. Waiting on the club is difficult for a former over the top swinger lol. I am catching the ball with my hands ahead and I get a good penetrating ball flight on irons. Not too high or too low.
Paul, great video to help me get more power. I think sometimes I may snap my hips hard and too early in my swing. When I do I tend to push the ball. Would that cause my push.
There is timing between the release and body rotation. If you only speed up the body of course you would blow it right. You need to hit 10 hooks in a row. This speed up the release. Now you can drive the lower harder to straighten it out. If you blow it right do it again. Do this but early: th-cam.com/video/Xk7t9yHCO-I/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Paul. Your videos are very helpful. A question: my latest swing key for rotation is to fire the right hip so that it moves towards the target with, and almost connected to, my right elbow. That seems to ensure that my right elbow stays below and behind my left elbow, and forces hip rotation ahead of impact. I am concerned that focusing on firing the right hip (as opposed to, say, pulling the left hip back) is going to cause other problems I haven't identified. What are your thoughts? Am I OK so long as my right hip is moving towards the target (and not towards the ball or right of target)?
You can certainly use that as a downswing trigger. Most people don't have one. I am talking 99%. You do and you are firing it they way you should be. So keep doing that and work on not hitting or helping the shot in any way with the arms. Neutral grip and super loose wrists and you will have it.
@@paulwilsongolf Thanks again. I'm still fighting the urge to use the arms as a power source, but I'm getting better. You might be interested to learn that I have a golf instructor who has convinced me to start my backswing by rotating the torso and arms, but leaving the hands behind (the Bobby Jones takeaway). It helps me to loosen the wrists and set the hands properly at the top. Thought you'd be interested to hear that. In any event, you're dead on that the wrists are an amazing, underappreciated, power source.
Yeah, I don't really like that one. Never seems to work. If it works for you then keep doing it but it is all about learn a move that get you to do it at impact. If you do my drill you will get good at using your hips which will then apply to impact.
@@paulwilsongolf ok, I’ll stick with your way as I’m getting good at it. Paul could you please give me your feedback on this, one other thing, I try to point my left shoulder at the ball in the backswing and then I as fast as possible point my right shoulder at where the ball was and it moves my hips as well.

Great tip Paul. My problem is that I often dip as I drive my right leg through and not hitting the ball pure. Would that be because of a poor shoulder turn ?
Not sure what dipping you are talking about. Most dipping is due to the forward leg buckling too much and the person moving too much laterally though impact. Do you know if you are sliding? If so, you need to turn more coming down. Let the lead leg straighten more through impact with it locking into the follow through. Try that. If it's a different dipping then let me know.
Hi Paul, we have a pga golf teacher in The Netherlands who teaches to start your golf swing from impact position. You only have to think about turning and turning back. Can you give me your thougths on this method?
It's okay for a drill cause it would get you feeling the hips open at impact. I just don't see it being anything miraculous. Get get the hips moving instead of hitting with the arms. Just do this one: th-cam.com/video/M58vf3LMwR0/w-d-xo.html Same sort of thing. Do this too daily: th-cam.com/video/THm6SktFifk/w-d-xo.html
Hey paul, love you videos! i was wondering if you could do a video on shots out of fairway bunkers. You talk about digging in your feet in greenside bunker which will cause impact before the ball. What should i be doing in fairway bunkers where i want to hit it like a regular ball? Grip down? Thanks for the amazing videos anyways!
You are not going to dig it more than a 1/2 inch. You are going to grip down a 1/2 inch. Take one more club. Play for a fade. Keep your head still and do your normal swing. That's it. You need to hit the ball first. Dig in and you hit the sand first which is not good. Try it.
Your chest would be open at impact. Not as much as the hips. In a golf swing you fire the lower body from the top. They are leading. They come to a complete stop just after impact. I have mental problems. My practice swing always has the divot in front and my rotation excellent. But when it comes time to hit the ball I never hit a forward divot, fat or under the ball or thin.
The mental problem is you trying to hit the ball with your arms. Your arms move faster than your body so they pull the club down and you hit behind it. This tip is exactly what you are doing. Hello, Paul. I have a question, important or not I don't know! This question concerns the position of the low point of the club and the ball at address. Ex : I put the ball between my feet (in the middle) to play an iron, would the low point of my swing be under my left armpit, or not ? And for the driver even more in the middle towards the sternum!
You need to go out by yourself with 3 golf balls in your pocket. You don't keep score. You swing at 50%. Drop balls and hit extra shots. It is about actually trying something new when you play. If you keep doing your old swing when do you ever change. With driver you pick a close target a few yards away or way way way in the distance that you cannot possibly reach. You cannot pick a fairway bunker at 250. This is a distance thought. So with new targets your thought to hit the fairway not hit it 250 down the fairway. Keep doing this by yourself until you get used to it. Right now if you play with others you will think distance and you will hit some bad shots. So try my way and get make the switch.
@@paulwilsongolf Awww thank you Paul. I was about ready to shelve my clubs. Excellent advice. I thought about doing the same on my own at the course so it’s perfect advice. I wish I could come to Vegas and have some lessons. You are an outstanding teacher and a true professional in every way. God bless you Paul. I’ll take your advice to heart and let you know how I make out. Cheers!
Paul can you do a video about breathing/relaxing while at the tee box? For some reason, I always seem to hold my breath during my set up, practice swings, and actual shots. I think I'm like those people who reflexively stick their tongues out while concentrating in that I'm so focused on the golf wing itself that I forget to breathe. This I think has prevented me from ever feeling totally relaxed and loose which is something I see in others. I never feel relaxed, though, because I'm concentrating so hard and not breathing. Sometimes I feel like I've hiked a mile when all I've done is set up to the ball and took a practice swing. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks!
Guess you haven't heard about the easiest way to win a bet on the golf course. Just ask the person if they breathes in or out when they hit the ball. So you see you are in this situation and it is affecting your swing. So to get rid of that habit you need another habit. What I would do is go through the set up. As you are closer to taking your swing you take a few deep breaths every single time. As you are doing the deep breaths you drain all energy out of your arms so you relax. If this is 3 breaths then it is always 3 breaths. A trick to clear people's minds is to then count to 3 then immediately take the club back and hit the shot after you say 3 to yourself. If you are thinking 1-2-3 you are not thinking of anything else. So to re-cap. Get ready. Take 3 deep breaths and drain all energy or tightness from your arms. Count 1-2-3 then take it back and hit the shot. For me I am thinking initially about coiling my shoulders to take it back and my arms move because they are connected to my body. You should try this too. 1. Left shoulder back 2. right shoulder 3.both shoulders 4. or back to the target to get the club moving back. Take your pick. Give this a shot and see how you do.
Hello ..i do fire my hips ,but my arms stay stoke behind my body and i still flipping the club at impact .I don ' t undersand this .So frustating..Thank you Paul.
You get rid of a flip by turning the hips so if you are flipping you are not turning your hips enough. Video your swing. At impact you need the position I am in. If so, there will be no flip.
Paul are you doing anything with your shoulders in the downswing or do you let them unwind on their own after you rotate the hips? The same with the arms. You are just letting them drop and release the club right?
I fire the lower allowing the upper to unwind on its own. With the arms I am not hitting or helping the shot in any way. Did you not see my last tip or my others?: th-cam.com/video/SgZ94B93w4o/w-d-xo.html The ball for my is hit because my wrists are super loose which creates a whip of the club. The looser the wrists the faster it whips.
Exactly. This is why I keep telling people to do stuff for at least a bucket. People try something 3 times and quit. Got to repeat this stuff daily and practice swings at home are the way to do this.
Glad you liked it. Didn't Hogan hit shots in short shorts and a tshirt so you could see his movement? I should have done that. Now that would have been funny.

Simple drill that shows you the position. Keep doing it until you get the co ordination with it. Also, think about firing the lower body not hitting. If you aren't even thinking about the lower as you hit the ball how are you ever going to stop hitting with arms?

You're AWESOME Paul! Thanks for all you've done. Now I need to work on my short game..... what a disaster!
Shank!
Very good 👍 this is correct teaching-- thanks!!!!
Glad you liked it! Thanks.
Amazing tip , thanks Paul
Glad you liked it. Thanks.
Thanks Paul, good suggestion to practise daily at home without getting to the driving range.10 minutes a day to get the motion naturally will be great.
Help?
You've created yet another important video. Especially important for weak amateurs--turn those hips and let the club catch up!
Glad you see it. This is one of the major differences between pros and ams. Get this and your whole game will change.

Watch:
th-cam.com/video/GhKr6Y8NHGo/w-d-xo.html
That should explain it. Just keep doing perfect positions into the future in practice swings at home. It is about the movement. Get the movement ... you get the ball.
Should your chest still be square on at impact please
What is your opinion of the squat move in the transition that is supposed to prevent early extension?
I don't like purposely squatting. Won't necessarily fix early extension. I early extend but I don't want a tilted golf swing because it hurts my back. Didn't seem to bother Nicklaus as well as others as they have some early extension. I have actually worked on it. Need to feel like your chest is tilting closer to the ground coming down. Not sure how they even clear the club doing this. I have since stopped worrying about it. I'm probably 80% or higher in fairways hit and I rarely practice so I'm not sure how this could ever improve my swing as opposed to killing my back. Here are a couple videos I did on transition:

th-cam.com/video/GhKr6Y8NHGo/w-d-xo.html
Paul, what about setting up in the impact position?
Yeah, I don't really like that one. Never seems to work. If it works for you then keep doing it but it is all about learn a move that get you to do it at impact. If you do my drill you will get good at using your hips which will then apply to impact.
@@paulwilsongolf ok, I’ll stick with your way as I’m getting good at it.
Paul could you please give me your feedback on this, one other thing, I try to point my left shoulder at the ball in the backswing and then I as fast as possible point my right shoulder at where the ball was and it moves my hips as well.
Hi Paul. I love your tips. So good at helping to simplify things and get to what’s important.

@@paulwilsongolf Hi Paul. Apologies we are no longer going to be in Vegas for long enough for me to get a lesson or a game.
Hi Paul, a question, after turning the hip, during impact for a right hander, should the left foot straight, or slightly bent, or it doesnt matter?
Left leg would be straight in the follow through. Little bent at impact. Weight rolls to the outside heel of the left foot.
Just do this one: th-cam.com/video/M58vf3LMwR0/w-d-xo.html
Same sort of thing. Do this too daily:

Try it.
Do you still keep the chest square at impact please - thanks - Kev

I have mental problems. My practice swing always has the divot in front and my rotation excellent. But when it comes time to hit the ball I never hit a forward divot, fat or under the ball or thin.
The mental problem is you trying to hit the ball with your arms. Your arms move faster than your body so they pull the club down and you hit behind it. This tip is exactly what you are doing. So ... work on it. You need to watch this too: th-cam.com/video/SgZ94B93w4o/w-d-xo.html

I don't even think like that or measure from the armpit or sternum. Never have. I follow this: th-cam.com/video/o55Cl-byCq8/w-d-xo.html
The advice is excellent but I seem to fall apart on the course. Any tips?
I know your an awesome teacher and serious about it.... but you make me laugh sometimes with the dry sarcasm Paul 🤣
Glad you think it's funny. I do too! Lot's of funny stuff (to me anyway). Glad you see it too.
Did you not see my last tip or my others?:
th-cam.com/video/SgZ94B93w4o/w-d-xo.html
The ball for my is hit because my wrists are super loose which creates a whip of the club. The looser the wrists the faster it whips.
@@paulwilsongolf i can't release the club so I've been turning the wrists over on purpose but it's hard to time it correctly.
Good advice here. There is no quick fix. It takes time to build the swing. I'm always mock swinging a club to impact. My family thinks I'm nuts...lol
Exactly. This is why I keep telling people to do stuff for at least a bucket. People try something 3 times and quit. Got to repeat this stuff daily and practice swings at home are the way to do this.
If could pick any person in the world to play 18 holes with. I would pick Paul Wilson !!!!!
