    HI Paul - since I am new to the body swing, I found my self doing exactly what you said not to; namely, taking the club back slowly trying to think of everything on the backswing so I would get it right - on my practice swings this morning, I did what you said and just forgot about all the picky nuances and shifted my thinking to "coil, uncoil" - wow - what a difference that made! I purchased your additional materials and encourage everyone out there to do the same - for just a little bit of money, I am receiving incredible golf tips (I think of them as personal lessons) that I can return to whenever I feel the need. At age 66, i might just learn this game of golf thanks to you!

      Glad to have you on board. Thanks for the support. Glad you picked up on smoothening it out and allowing a lot of this stuff to happen on its own. Yes, each piece is important but as you start getting it doing it too slow can certainly hamper it. Smooth it out now. Sounds like you just made a breakthrough. Exciting when that happens. Keep at it. Think simple now.

    Just stumbled across your site, Paul. Like finding gold in a field! In my 60’s having returned to the game after 20 years, and it’s been hard. Some days kinda ok, some days arghh. Your words resonated loudly. I know I’ve been trying to whack it using my arms and getting nowhere. Spent thousands on lessons, with a number of different pro’s, without much reliable improvement. This makes so much sense. Got some binge watching to do and then putting into practice your teachings. Can’t wait.

      Glad you found me. It is like finding gold. I am handing it to everyone on a silver platter. It doesn't get easier than this. You need to loosen the wrists first and get the ball hoking. This is half right. You fixed the spin and loosened your wrists. Once you can do that you switch to body. You coil then uncoil to hit it. Last step completely turn off your arms in the downswing. Keep this in mind as you go through my tips. Watch me do it in the video below. Who in the world would say they could do this and actually do it. No one:

If it was as easy as just hitting with arms wouldn't everyone be good? The better player are doing it a different way. We are powering it with the big muscles in our legs and hips. Paul it took me about 70 balls of a 100 ball bucket, on Monday to start hitting it properly as you show. Its really hard to not think about that ball and i was a bit discouraged at first. What did it for me personally was to look 2 inches in front of the ball just before starting the backswing. something clicked. I couldn't believe effortless power and straight shots with divots..all pretty much in a tight dispersion area. It was your clock face drill that I had in mind. Thanks mate. I'm going to come over the States, have a Vegas holiday take a few lessons at your school one of these days.

      @@paulwilsongolf It’s truly excellent instruction, Paul. I’ve been playing the game for 35 years and have been doing so on pure athletic ability and, yet, I am extremely inconsistent in the ‘strike’ and the swing and, as a consequence, in scoring. So irritating. Anyway, you have changed my game (not completely…cause I still default to the old swing…often) and my thought process - completely.

    There is no doubt that you have captured the essence of the perfect golf swing. After watching lots of your videos I really feel like I understand exactly what I need to do. The final piece of the jigsaw is being able to deliver it all on the course. I'm trying, but not there yet. @Cam-vz2us 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve been playing golf now seriously for about 11 years i’m a 6 handicap. I’ve struggled with consistent ball striking for my entire life and this was my come to moment that I was always trying to fire the arms first rather than let the lower body go and let my hands follow. I also feel this has caused terrible tempo in my swing forever. I hit some balls on the range today and probably hit about 20 balls right on the center of the face. Going to keep at it!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good. Yes, hitting with arms is never going to work because you end up manipulating the face. If it's only open or closed a few degrees you will hit it sideways. A tick on a clock is 6 degrees. You don't have 6 degrees. So allow simple physics of mass swinging around an axis to consistently square the face. In other words don't hit or help the ball with your hands and arms. As you see it works incredibly well. Keep up the good work.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it was helpful! Yes, shortening the swing stops you from being able to pull the club down with the arms. So you get your body moving. I did a drill on it here: th-cam.com/video/fcbPrY1jtrc/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks again Paul, you’re method really makes sense. I found that occasionally I actually get it working right and when that happens it is superb. Apart from getting a good result it feels so easy and I have no soreness or fatigue after a round. So great for that golf trip with mates where you might play five rounds over a week long trip. Really battled with forcing myself to be disciplined enough to take the arms out of the swing and do it consistently. I’m a bit of an over thinker and take too many practice swings. I found the practice swings hurt me because I kept bringing the arms back into play for them. Got good improvement once I became more aware of that

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you are doing well and seeing results. No pain is great too. Discipline is a big part of it. You need the right thoughts to get it. So with your practice swings I would keep doing them but be gentle and do them smooth. After all it is a practice swing not reality. Also, stick to swinging at 50%. Your 50 is actually 70-80%. As you keep hitting great shots you will want to swing easy.

    I was working on this very thing today at the range. Instead of coil, Chubby Checker's song "The Twist" goes through my head. Silly, I know, but it works to help keep my mind off hitting the ball, and my body relaxed.
    As a side note, there is a local pro player who uses the course where I was practicing. He plays the mini tours while trying to work his way up. While not PGA caliber, he's better than most. So, I sat in my timeout chair and watched him swing for a while to maybe learn something. He was methodical in his practice swings and not whaling away like an amateur would. It looked like he was working on getting more shaft lean on his shorter irons. But one thing I noticed he did which Paul emphasizes in almost every one of his videos; while working on his shots, he teed up every ball. No digging in the dirt while learning a new technique, every ball was up about a finger's width. It's something which slips my mind a lot of times when I'm on the range but seeing this really drives it home.
    So, there you go. Paul is preaching the real gospel 🙂 Thanks, Paul.

Thin is usually hitting and lifting because you are hitting and trying to see it before you've done it. Stop hitting. If you look at the ball as you hit it I guarantee you are going to find your ball. I will tell you right now a chip will be on the green and a pitch will be upwards of 80 or so yards away from you so as you see you will find your ball so there's no reason to look early. Hit it then look.

      I would also do this one to get the shape of the swing very quickly then tidy it up in the future:
      th-cam.com/video/gTLvRsjwfIM/w-d-xo.html
      If you are slicing you need to get rid of any slice spin as soon as you can so you would be working on this:
      Wrist Release/Snap

      th-cam.com/video/yHEv7G9Z5-0/w-d-xo.html
      Once you can hook it you switch to using your body to straighten it out.

Imagine someone is going to throw you a basketball. You would have some flex. Your chest would be up. Now keep this position and put your hands together. Then chin down to see the club and ball clearly not your toes. For shorter clubs don't have too much angle in your wrists. This is how you do the taller setup with shorter clubs.

    Thank Paul, as I've said before. I'm working with a coach in Bloomington, IN that is teaching me this. I've spent a lot of time learning this with my wedges. It works great on the driver - working with wedges!! Lol
    My big hang up right now is finishing the un coil?
    I stop early (which is really getting to me) and my right hand hits the ball. Any pointers on this, please?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you don't need to think of the coil with wedges just the uncoil. So set the hinge in the backswing allowing the body to coil without really thinking about it. Once you hit the top you switch to the belt buckle to hit the pitch so your thought is HINGE/TURN. That's it.
      For the uncoil in the swing you need to swing through to the touch the legs position and let he club go (I'm not going to give everything away). This is what I teach in my Body Swing product. Here is a tip I did on the ending point. You might pick up on it here:

      What you said does help. I remember it from the series on the driver I purchased from you site. Yeah, your not new to me. I've been around your stuff for a while now. I have watched the driver series a couple of times. Obviously, now having a coach showing me the same stuff you talk about - helps considerably. I for whatever reason, just stop my turn or un coil?
      It's frustrating for me. The good thing is. I've gone from a few good shots in a bucket of balls. To a few bad shots. I mean like 7-8 out of 50. I'm very happy with that especially with it just in a few months working with a coach.

    Hi Paul, is it normal to feel pain at spot on the right side of my rib due to frequent golf club hits to hard surfaces like the driving range mats? Now i am using my body more and was thinking whether this may be the cause?

    • @monyet82

      not normal. you should not hit the mats or hit down.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure that's it's you hitting the mat. Typically this pain would be in the arms. I think you have use the body or fired your lower body in some way that you have strained your side. This might happen when you try to turn the lower body but you are flat footed on the back foot through and past impact. This would mean your lower body is pointing forward as your upper body is pointed toward the target. See how that could hurt the right rib cage. I would reduce the range practice on mats for now so you can let it heal. I would do easier practice swings at home working on positions and movements. When you do go to the range you can try teeing it up a little so you aren't hitting the mat hard and definitely slow down making sure you are not flat footed on this back foot at impact.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you shouldn't have tight arms. I want to you set the club in the correct backswing position. In doing so, you would feel your arms instead of them flopping all over the place. Once set you don't try to hit or help the shot with your arms coming down and through. If you arms are tight going back your wrists will be lock and it will be tough to turn them off coming down.

When you started relating the bodyswing to other sports like throwing a ball or swinging at a ball it started to somewhat click. I than related it to basketball because as you release the ball you flick/snap your wrist. So today I started flicking my wrist and the results have been amazing. Still needs work overall but the effortless feel is arriving. Maybe try content shooting a ball for people who only have a basketball history. Thanks again👍🏽

    I find now when I time this nice and smooth I hit it dead straight. If I uncoil too slow it pushes to the right which is still not that bad, and if I go too fast, I won't clear my hips properly and it starts to hook left, this is good because it now help's me with my tempo. • @singledigits_og

    The only problem with the thought of "turning the arms off" is that I've personally seen people take that to the extreme and just let the trail arm early extend, let the clubhead massively cast, and end up digging it 2 feet behind the ball. Don't the arms have to preserve some minimal structure (e.g. trail elbow leading the hands, like Hogan taught) as the body coils and uncoils? And if you tell me the trail elbow shouldn't/doesn't need to be leading the way to the target, you will have lost a lot of cred with most better players.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be using the arms. If the club moves before the body you have to be moving them. If you turned your body first the arms would follow 100% of the time. This is simple physics. I talk about it in this tip: th-cam.com/video/cogyf6UjH7U/w-d-xo.html
      Hitting behind the ball is too much weight on the back foot at contact again hitting with arms:
      th-cam.com/video/UwynwFBldv4/w-d-xo.html
      Trial elbow would tuck due to the axis moving first. I never have a problem getting people to hit it dead straight in minutes. Turn the arms off and start the body first. I think fixing the thousands of people in my life gives me the cred. Watch me do it then ask yourself if anyone else in the world would say they could do this and actually do it:

      @@paulwilsongolf At 4:08, (00;06;06;25) , I still see your student's trail elbow well behind his torso at the slot (should be directly over the trail hip at this point - watch any of Hogan's swings), and his follow-through plane, while much improved, is still noticeably over the top. Also, while hard to tell from DTL, it looks like he's expended all his lag tension prior to impact, instead of having at least 10 degrees of shaft lean.
      My point is that while I agree that no "projectile force" should come from the arms at the first half of the downswing, proper shift and rotation is no guarantee that the trail elbow will win the race to the slot as I (and so many other great instructors) believe it should. I personally know several players who have great weight shifts body rotations who still leave their trail elbow way behind them, and badly cast the club with the trail arm and wrists well before impact (I used to be one of them). The only way I was able to cure this fault was to , as I began moving the other direction, ensure that the upper-body angles I created on the backswing (spine angle, wrist hinge, trail elbow) either remained preserved or became more acute (recall the sidearm throw pencil sketch from "Five Lessons") until the slot, after which I could fully release with both arms (quoth Hogan: "...at this point I wish I had three right arms"). Like you have said, this upper-body assembly is delivered to the ball with the body rotation, but I have found the preservation of lag tension (see Bertie Cordle's videos) to impact doesn't happen on its own; it's a skill to be developed that is just as critical as weight shift and body rotation.

      You are nit picking. I took a guy I never met who couldn't keep it on the range and hit it 250 dead straight in just over 6 mins. I didn't say it was going to be perfect. As I said, I don't have a problem getting people to hit it dead straight. Keep in mind the student and what they are even able to do. I typically teach older average players. They come to see me from all over the world. They are here for a few hours that's it. I will get them hitting it better than they ever hit it in their life while they are here and give them precise positions and a few drills to do when they get home so they can keep working on it. I will keep doing what I do. I make it super simple and get amazing results and have done so since 1991. I don't care who the person is or what they are doing I can get them hitting it dead straight from square alignment. Oh watch the second video scroll down the page. I fix 9 more slicers in minutes:
      www.paulwilsongolf.com/cure-slice
      Lag does happen on it's own if you are a kid. This is a big example I explain to everyone. Kids have minimal arm strength. Using mom or dads clubs from ball 1 they cannot pull the club down. They have perfect lag, no chicken wing and perfect extension and I don't have to say one word about it. Learning as an adult is different. From ball one they will want to hit the object. This is due to human nature. So an adult wants to hit with their arms. The kid has no choice so they use their body. So yes, hitting with arms is the problem. Turn then off, start the body first and the club shallows perfectly.
      You should have just done this drill. I could have gotten you perfect lad in 2 mins:
