I copy this comment from Sherri Carter because that is what happen to my freedon Express 257BHS We are having this exact problem right now, on our first trip with our brand new travel trailer thanks for the video and I'm subscribed
I went to a 105C instead of the 98C thermistor. Also you could fashion some sort of standoff to get some air space behind the control module. This may keep it cooler and possible longer service life.
Same Problem , last weekend in Shasta Mountains in California still snow around and cold, luckily our site had Showers !! - Just ordered from your Amazon Link, thanks for knowledge share☺ I will come back on Thursday Night to let you know if it worked!
@@ChippersIslandAdventures big shout out @Chipper and your tutorial, I fixed the problem on my water heater in my trailer with the same part you used in your video,. THANKS AGAIN AMIGO MUCH appreciated 👍
Great video and thank you as my brand new Entegra Odyssey 26 Ms water heater is not working. Luckily I’m in Florida and cool showers aren’t too bad but I’m going to call Dometic first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks again Chipper
Hey Chipper, my thermal cutoffs came in today and sure enough that was the problem. My water heater fired right up. 💥 Thanks again for the great information. 🙏🏼 Easiest problem I will probably ever encounter. Hahaha
Yes, sure enough, I went right to my fuse and it is blown. It was windy when I was operating the hot water on a recent trip so the system worked as intended. I plan on getting some spares. Thank you for the video.
Thanks for the video. Made it easy to fix to issue, bad thermal coupler. Ours went out the same night we picked it up from the dealer. We were traveling back to Vegas from Denver so it was up to me to get it fixed.
My dometic water heater looks exactly like yours. Mine is 1 year old and stopped working on electric. Still works on gas. My grand design RV is nearly new and has been a maintenance nightmare. Fridge twice, awning, outdoor mini fridge, hot water heater, screen door, indoor speaker, bedroom door sliding rail hinge twice. So frustrating to have something brand new with non stop issues. In one year of ownership after purchasing new it has been back to service 4 times.
Nicely done. This seems to be a common issue with Dometic appliances. 3rd time using our 2021 TT and the fridge quit due to the thermal cutoff. Now our 3rd use of our 2022 TT and the H2O heater went out. Same issue
This helped us figure out what was wrong with our rv water heater too. Same problem, the thermal cutoff. Except because of you we were able to bypass the call to Dominic and dealing with the motherboard. THANK YOU!!!
Hmmm. That may get be the mother board or the wiring to the element that actually heats the water when on electric mode. Personally, I’d give the manufacturer a call and speak with a tech who can walk you through the troubleshooting. Have a multimeter ready. Also, there’s a couple videos out there that also troubleshoot. It’s good you have propane so it’s surely fixable. Best of luck with it.
I’ve had the same issue with my new rv and have searched for solutions and was unsuccessful until this video. Just ordered a thermal cutoff from Amazon in hopes I finally fix my water heater. Thank you!
Hi MJ. Thank u for watching. That’s indeed peculiar. That sounds like it could be a mother board issue. I would give Dometic a call and see if they can assist. Would love to hear the outcome. All the best!
Thank you good sir. This video was extremely helpful and saved me ANOTHER trip back to the dealership. I now have 5 extra thermal breaks in my repair drawer.
Bud, I would give Dometic a call. It could be the motherboard. They are usually very helpful. When you say it doesn’t shut off, how long is it running?
So i fixed ours, but our flame is coming out, like something is blocking inside the flue but theres nothing blocking. I cleaned the burner but still the same any ideas
We bought our trailer last year and I`m already having trouble with the water heater on both gas and electric....I guess they make them cheap....So if your thermal cutoff isn`t good, does that mean the gas will not light up when needed to reheat the water? I can start mine with a lighter, but when it shuts off, it doesn`t relight.
As far as I know, the water heater will not work on gas or electric. Get a couple thermal cutoffs. With two pack you’ll have a spare. Good luck and all the best!
Thanks for the tips! My electric side failed last night. I discovered that there may be a bad crimp connection to that thermal limiter. I bent it around the other way and it seems to be holding and functioning. Second time I've had that same problem. First time was a control line in the thermostat circuit to the AC. First time RV'er with a new Mallard 21 trailer. I've had leaks, electrical issues, trim falling off, drawer slides falling apart, cabinet catches falling apart. And that is since February!
Mark, welcome aboard. Glad to hear the site can be of some assistance. And yes, I’ve gone thru much of what you described as well. I just last week finally got a drawer not to open while under way and fixed my shower head support. It had popped out of wall though it still clung to the shower vinyl surround. All the best!
I am having the same issue. Ordered from Amazon but hoping I can change this out myself. I wish you had shown the change out as you did it. I'm nervous lol. Thanks for all your videos. So helpful. I'm learning my rig through all the troubles.
Success, Success, Success, thank you for the assist. I was a trouble shooter on multi million dollar US Navy Jets back in my old Navy days, and this tiny little water heater was really putting a good one on my brain & sanity. Fully functional we r ready for our next adventure. I will b sure and share your video as much as I can. Thank you once again. Blessings always. Gil
Mine quits, throws a fault code and stops working after it runs for a while. If I shut the switch off and let it cool down then it fires again. I'm going to try this fix and see if it helps. Then I will look at the mother board. Thanks
We are having this exact problem right now, on our first trip with our brand new travel trailer. Thanks for the tips. I wish we could fix it today. The cold showers are not fun.
You could have fixed it same day if it was the thermal cutoff. Just take it out and plug the wire in direct and the water heater will work until new part arrives. It's just an extra safety feature. Definitely install a new one asap.
You need to ask yourselves "WHY?" is this device opening? It is there to shut the system down if the flame rolls out. That is where you should be looking. Just replacing that Thermal cut out or thermal fuse is not the answer. I agree, it gets you back in operation, but do you think these things are just "bad?"
You bring up a good point. I will say I’ve not had to change my thermal cutoff since my initial replacement. What I do is I tend to turn water heater on as needed as opposed to always on. That is not to say I don’t leave it on while camping. I do. But I don’t once on the road or when plugged in at home. No problems thus far. All the best!
Great Video! Just experienced the same problem with our 4 month old trailer. I didn't have a replacement thermal fuse, so I decided to eliminate it for testing purposes and the water heater fired right up. Got me thinking though, it is hot here in Alabama right now, and I just switched to propane use a couple days ago. I think that with the ambient outside temp, the black cover on the side of the trailer in the sun, it's already pretty hot inside that compartment. Add the heat from propane burning to it, probably gets too hot and causes the thermal fuse to fail, or to do it's job as it is designed to for safety. Just a thought.
No hot water on my dometic wh-6gea which is both propane and electric. Worked like a charm. Have a couple of these spares in case supply chain issues get worse. Which they will..
Btw, I only replaced the cut off. I didn’t replace anything else. Dometic states the received a bad batch of cutoffs. Now that supply is fixed. We’ll see.
Great video!!! Thanks to you I was able to fix my new RV’s hot water heater and avoid taking it to the dealer! Now I have a few of these on hand just in case it happens again.
I'm having the same problem on my 2022 Gulf Stream Classic Cruiser with the Dometic water heater with neither gas or electric working. Your video focused on the propane fix, did your water heater work on electric? If not did this fix work for both gas and electric? Did you need a part # when ordering the thermal-cutoff from Amazon?
Any idea how to get the damn thermal link OFF the RV? It is like STUCK on and I cannot pull it off to bypass it to see if that's the issue. Prying to save my life...
Never mind. I used the old wire and just connected the née fuse. Thanks again fir this help! Now going to call domestic and ask for them to send me a replacement.
Would u have the part number or link to the thermal cutoff? I have replaced the motherboard with no fix, I suspect you are correct with the thermal cutoff. Thank you in advance.
The thermal cutoff. Some may call it a limiter. It’s a short wire with what looks like a resistor. Atwood 93866 OEM RV Water Heater... www.amazon.com/dp/B077YR29HL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
