Same here bro! I've been listening to them in an almost religous way as of lately! Just received Ok Computer and Kid A on vinyl from the mailbox today. Man, these guys are great at what they do!
Storytime fellas The year was 2003, probably the time between July to September. The clock was ticking 1am. And the music video of There, there was playing on MTV. I was a 3 year old kid, and upon seeing this video I was quite confused and had a very unexplainable feeling probably due to the kind of visuals it showed. So as a confused kid I asked my dad what this song and what is happening in the video, my dad just made up a story that the guy in the video stole clothes and boots of someone so he was punished by God or something to become like a tree. And that's how it ended, I never got to know about the name of the music and the band who made it. But this video gave me a very unsettling feeling as a kid, and for 17 years I just couldn't forget that. It was like sealed into my memory forever, a vivid memory of a very unsettling song with strange music. After 17 years (2020) I started using TH-cam more frequently than ever, by this time I thought that vivid memory about that "unsettling song" was just maybe a dream or a made up memory in my head and suddenly one night a thought struck my head that what if the memory wasn't fake or made up or a dream. What if the memory was real. So I started searching on youtube with words that went like "music video with a man turning into a tree", "old music video of a man turning into a tree", "guy steals clothes and boots and turns into a tree music video". And after a few weeks of searching with keywords like these and going through like 80 - 100 videos I finally landed on this video. And while I was watching the music video the song and the video itself started giving me the same unnerving feeling which I had 17 years ago. And I felt like I was back in 2003 in my old home with the CRT TV that was playing this song at 1am. And after the video ended I started to do more research on this band (Radiohead) and found out it defines all the insecurities and problems I have, through their music. 17 years later I found something that was unnerving to me as a kid but now it gives me a feeling like I found a lost friend. Thank you Radiohead for making great timeless music that helped and still helps me through bad days.
I have a story like this about a Peter Gabriel music video in 86 called sledgehammer. I was 4 years old and I was always mesmerized by the stop animation and then at the end he dresses into this black head to toe outfit with glowing dots on it like stars on a night sky back drop. And my dad would see me run and hide every time that ending came because it unnerved me to no end. To this day I still love that song and the artist but that music video near the end spooks the young me. Lol

All I can say is best of luck to you, thank you for your interpretations and thank you for making the world feel a little smaller
Actually I've read that the song is meant to be reassuring. Thom Yorke said the song was "supposed to be comforting - 'It's alright, you're just imagining it.'" :)
I’m 17 years old, and this is my favourite Radiohead song. Arguably my favourite song at the moment. I remember the first time I heard this song, I was a moderate Radiohead fan at the time. It didn’t exactly catch my ear straight away but with like many Radiohead songs the more you listen to them the more captivating and ethereal they begin to sound. Radiohead are easily my favourite band right now, even Spotify says so… 🥰

This song is about Thom's dream. Sadly, when he woke up, the dream was gone. He felt it was with him, but in reality, it was just a dream. Just because you feel like, doesn't mean it is there with you. And if you choose to believe that dream was real, then you will die in reality, meaning walking disaster and shipwreck. This MV is about Thom choosing to live inside of his dream, and slowly dying. Thom cried after the first recording of this song in the studio.
I love that I can see Björk's influence here. The two acts are pretty much contemporaries both forward thinking artists and both are fans of each other.

In 2:27 Thom looks over the dining animals. I like to interpret it as a need for belonging which cannot be satisfied. Thom wants to be part of something, but he can't, as he's looking from "outside". It's the best part of the video clip, as the song goes "Just cause you feel it , Doesn't mean it's there" and you have this very sad yet warm feeling.
happens a lot with them im noticing. I fell in love with radiohead sometime around 2003, listened to I might be wrong live album more times then I can remember. Then I just moved on to different music. Got back into them around 2010, listened for a few then wanted more "happier" music and moved on again. Then 2016 happened and youtube suggested a song by them while I was comin off of a break up, and BOOM, I more of a fan now then I ever was. They just grow on you.
this would make a fabulous fairy tale of old, or a parable. there’s a man who wanders into a deep, dark forest in the middle of the night. at first, he simply observes the lives of the animals, not taking anything nor harming them. but once he attempt to take something that doesn’t belong to him and which he doesn’t need, he’s met with a punishment and now will forever stand in the very forest he attempted to steal from
Watching it for the very first time, two ideas came to my mind: "Didn't I read a story like this when I was very little?", and "Why does this video look exactly like my dreams and nightmares?"

One of the things I love about Radiohead is that everyone can hear the same Album and so many people have different ideas on what song is best, and for what reason. edit: read a lot of personal experiences in the comments people have had. All I can say is best of luck to you, thank you for your interpretations and thank you for making the world feel a little smaller
YES. That sentence helps me too with that.
Your not alone ❤
Thom is a Buddhist of sorts, so he may have intended it that way.
Actually I've read that the song is meant to be reassuring. Thom Yorke said the song was "supposed to be comforting - 'It's alright, you're just imagining it.'" :)
Yea man, same
I’m 17 years old, and this is my favourite Radiohead song.

That's what each tree is, another person who chose to live in his/her dream.
Really? Wow,didn't knew about that
Jake the Dog Where did you read it? 😯
Let's be real though, whenever Radiohead finished recording a song in the studio, Thom would always cry.
This is not true.

In 2:27 Thom looks over the dining animals. I like to interpret it as a need for belonging which cannot be satisfied. Thom wants to be part of something, but he can't, as he's looking from "outside". It's the best part of the video clip, as the song goes "Just cause you feel it
, Doesn't mean it's there" and you have this very sad yet warm feeling.
why the hell does he turn into a tree

And that my friend is how I knew my wife was the one😅
i've known this song for years and probably heard it a hundred times, but today i spontaneously fell in love with it.
I love when that happens....
happens a lot with them im noticing.
That just happened to me too!
like we do with people
That is the day Eisen Faust became Eisen Faust Arp
this would make a fabulous fairy tale of old, or a parable.
there’s a man who wanders into a deep, dark forest in the middle of the night. at first, he simply observes the lives of the animals, not taking anything nor harming them. but once he attempt to take something that doesn’t belong to him and which he doesn’t need, he’s met with a punishment and now will forever stand in the very forest he attempted to steal from
Watching it for the very first time, two ideas came to my mind:
"Didn't I read a story like this when I was very little?", and
"Why does this video look exactly like my dreams and nightmares?"

This is their best song IMO, and the entirety of hail to the thief gets slept on even by radiohead fans.
It really does. It's because they left some of the B sides on the album and it runs long. They never made that mistake again.
It's way too long, thankfully Thom made an alternate track list so that the album flows better.
HTTT is among their top 4 records, including the bends, in rainbows and ok computer.
@@thagoff Finally someone who agrees with me. I love Kid A and Amnesiac but they just arent as good as Radiohead's more rock-oriented stuff

When Thom sings “There’s always a siren singing you to shipwreck” you can literally hear the siren singing on the left side (shoulder devil/temptation/wrong) while simultaneously on the right side (shoulder angel/conscience/right) you hear conscience saying “Don’t reach out”

One of the things I love about Radiohead is that everyone can hear the same Album and so many people have different ideas on what song is best, and for what reason. My buddy and his older brother got me into Radiohead and every album release that came out we all had different songs as our favorites or "Best Of". This one was My friends older brother's favorite.
