I never noticed how perfectly thom embodies just some guy on an elevator
hahahahaha
Lmao that's such a weird thought though. Aren't we all just some guy on an elevator in this world? Deep thoughts
@@scorpionic-night you know what’s weirder? I have actually zero memory of writing this comment
@@emma-xt5iy well it's been 3 years

In Daydreaming Thom visits many rooms, in Lift, many rooms visit you.

Radiohead - Daydreaming (USSR Mix)
Ha...Deep.. ;)
This is honestly one of the most comforting and happy songs I have ever heard. It feels like a hug after a long and lonely rainy day.
I legit cried when i heard this for the first time. Life was particularly hard at the time so it felt like this song was soothing the heart.
Whenever I'm extremely sad I just sit down and listen to this song and cry it all out.
Are we listening to the same song?
It is so... the Beatles:-) I love the guitar and the forever-boyish Thom's voice.
Totally
This song feels like the last day of a trip and you dont want to leave
well said.
It's time to come home...
truth :,(
woah you're so right
me watching this after getting home from the place i didnt want to leave
Imagine writing an album so good you felt comfortable leaving a masterpiece such as this off of it. Mind-blowing.
TBF, it wouldn't have fit the album anyway. It's a masterpiece, as you say, but is very different to the rest of the album.
Tbh, the themes of comfort at the beginning and end, the sense of security, warmth, and reassurance, dont really fit in with OK Computer. The paranoia, alienation filled tracks from paranoid android to no surprises has a very heavy anxious mood. Still, very deserving of a Single though.
I love Radiohead but they have nothing on the Smashing Pumpkins' B-Sides. Mellon Collie, arguably one of the greatest albums of all time, had a 5-CD-Box-Set full of top quality B-Sides
@@benhenschel145I’m a massive Pumpkins fan. But they’re nothing at all on Radiohead
@@ck891 that's nonsense. My point stands: when it comes to the amount and quality of B-Sides the Pumpkins blow Radiohead out of the water and that's also not surprising seeing as the Pumpkins put out about ten times as many b-sides as Radiohead if not more.
Just imagine. A song this good not making it on the album.
IT is, in the OknotOk
For an album as good as OK COMPUTER. I cant complain
It sounded like a Bends song so they didn't put it on the album
@@apararkobhattacharya1276 they didnt put it on because it was too "anthemic". they didnt want another huge single to overshadow the whole album

Alain Hernandez OK Elevator.
0110?
On the floor indicator inside the elevator (on the top of the middle of the door).
Background of this song that I’m sure most are aware of but I’ll say it anyway:
This song was originally written for The Bends. They performed it live a couple of times in 1996. They tried to develop it more to put it on OK Computer, but they thought the commercial potential of the song was too stressful, so they never finished it.
The live version and some early studio versions are much more explosive and loud, and were a fan favorite for unreleased/bootlegged songs.
In 2017, for the 20th anniversary of OK Computer, they released a finished version of the song. Along with a music video of Thom in a lift, visiting different rooms, with cameos from characters from other music videos. Such as the kid from Paranoid Android at 2:52.
Wow, didn't spot the kid from Paranoid Android in this, good eye
Thom's wife also appears at 0:19
And maybe Phil appears at 1:40 lol
The person at 3:02 looks like that Oscar Hudson guy from the "The Numbers" vignette
@@jovidog9573 plus the girl who pushes the buttons is Thom's daughter (according to pitchfork)
I think the guy walking with a cane who couldn't catch the lift could be resembling the man from the "karma police" mv (similar clothing) with another theory relating the "man of war" mv when it comes to the mans looks
the commercial potential?
people: "what's the name of the guy that sings backing vocals for Radiohead?"
Ed O'Brien: "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed

Hahaha 😂😂
Let down and Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Ed O'Brien has such good backs line.
Ed is literally the stoner of the group.
I like the idea that Thom here has just accepted the slow drag of life and descended until the eventual end-- where he wouldn't have to be stuck anymore. In the end, we are all on the same lift together. There is an end to the descent. And you don't have to cut the descent short. Accept that your doors will open to strange places and people, and friends will come and press all of the floors. Whether you accept that or not, everyone wants you to stick around for a couple more floors. So stick around. Stick around with all of us and just... "let it go".
Great interpretation
yeah agreed, a nice way of putting it.
This is a really good interpretation :0
Dang I think differently about the song and life now. Thanks
:)
I love everything about this. Thom and his amazing coat. The 1997 vibes. The old school music video. Every time Radiohead release an album someone starts a rumour they're doing 'guitar music' again. Well these bonus songs are as though they did. I'm in heaven.
Well it was written back in 1993. And they did recordings of this song along the way.
surprisingly, this is one of the few songs by radiohesd that actually feels uplifting and comforting in a strange way.
I find it incredibly comforting.
Its like a goddamn hug.
If you haven’t listened to “Separator” I recommend you do so
radiohead
it's deeply hopeful. not sure how it makes me feel, but i like it :)
It is definitely more outwardly uplifting than many songs they've done, but for sure I think In Rainbows is one of their more feel good albums. Very energetic and positive. Weird Fishes never fails to make me crack a smile.
This song feels like the most cathartic, warm hug from a friend you haven’t seen in forever
What if we kissed in the radiohead lift....
Haha jk..
Unless? 😳
Smooth...
Yes plsss
Dont do it, you'll make thom feel awkward
I love how he lifts his hands like, "Why???" when the kid (actually his daughter!) pushes all the buttons.
Seaport so cute!
Isn't that Thom's new girlfriend too?
destiny66 yes indeed and his daughter, agnes
He could've turned them off one by one. Most lifts have that functionality ryt?
Amox yes but that would be boring
For a brief moment, the "01" in the elevator display turns into an "OK", then the doors open and Thom sees someone who looks like himself but isn't. That, I think, is Radiohead's lead singer looking back at the man he used to be when he made OK Computer.
He walks toward that person, but he isn't himself anymore - there is only one Thom, and they ain't him. They turn around to face the real one; he stays put, looking back at them. Even though he pressed "01" on the panel, he won't join them because they are not his destination. Rather, he contemplates the OK floor briefly, then moves on (presumably) to the ground floor where he needs to attend to real-life matters - hence the bags.
You nailed it.
nice - I suppose everyone noticed the upside-down number 13 as well for the upside-down floor
that’s beautiful
i thought it said OK before 01!

That blonde girl is Thom Yorke's daughter and the Woman next to her is his girlfriend. You raised an interesting observation. I hadn't caught it that she was the one who sent him through all those different floors where he interacted with various characters.

Living in Oxford, I've seen him in town quite frequently. Last time I saw him was 2 months ago, crossing the road in this same exact green coat and white shoes!!! It was the closest I got to him, and all I could say is: "I love you man!!!" He got sooo embarrassed :))) My girlfriend told me later that I didn't just say it, I've actually shouted at him. Ouch! It was one of those cathartic moments.
whatt why is it that when i lived in oxford i never met the guy !! hahah
you are lucky !
I believe you. My friend told me he saw the whole band walking in a public bar once.
Lol he got embarrassed but he's used to it 😂
If you saw any of them again, please shout again for the rest of us who could only wish we could! WE LOVE THEM ALL!!
I've been visiting Oxford for a long time and actually bumped into him the other weekend :) I was so happy i couldn't believe it. Had Agnes with him so I didn't want to keep him but just basically told him I've been listening for about 25 years and he's amazing 😄also briefly discussed prophet synths which was awesome. ugh love it.
A man of peace. Letting others in his bubble to let them see peace in all the emotional brain waves and all the silence of its extent to let one cry

I hope the fact that they made and posted a video for this song at this point in Thom's life means he's getting better.
We love you, Thom. Don't let the depression or the malaise of modern life take you. Don't let the awful thoughts and feelings that they engender take you. You can be content, you can live rather than kill time. So keep trying, and try the best you can. The best you can is good enough.

Daydreaming 2: Still Lost
best comment ever
accurately
What makes you think he was lost on daydreaming?
Interesting things I've noticed so far:
There a fake plastic tree on each floor.
On 3:33 the 01 floor number flickers briefly and changes to OK.
The guy on 2:52 resembles the Paranoid Android character. The fish bowl he's drinking out of is also a reference to the music video.
The 10th floor (2:20) kinda reminds me of the High and Dry music video, I could be wrong though. Same goes for the 11th floor.
I'll update more speculations when possible. Was there anything else I missed?
EDIT: So here's a little update of what other possible references I got based on the replies.
There's a shopping cart on 1:03, perhaps another possible reference to Fake Plastic Trees.
The bald men in suits on 1:38 could either be a reference to the Just music video. It could also be reference to the lyric "the yuppies networking" from Paranoid Android or the man in the suit from the music video. OR maybe there's a Phil Selway cosplay going on....
The old man on 2:35 highly resembles the guy from the Karma Police music video.
At 2:51, perhaps that's a reference to Kid A? Maybe that's too far fetched though...
At 2:57, the women kinda resemble the women from Street Spirit.
Someone mentioned a possible reference to No Surprises on 3:00, I'm assuming he/she is referring to the lighting? IMO, that seems too obscure. Surely they must be a better reference somewhere...
Also, anyone found any explanations to floors on 1:30, 3:11 and 3:26?
Nathaniel Torres Yeah, you missed something. Instead of saying "I could be wrong" you should have said "I Might Be Wrong"
I wasn't referencing that song, I was saying I could be incorrect about my speculation.
Nathaniel Torres I know, I just couldn't resist
LOL! It didn't even occur to me that you purposely mentioned another Radiohead song! Excuse me while I rethink my life...
At 2:20 reminds more to knives out don't know why
This is real music...

But for as long as i can remember ive felt like a counterfeit in the world. Maybe im Really still on that lift. This is my favorite music video, thanks Radiohead
Also, the guy drinking from the fish bowl is reference to the character in the paranoid android video, who wears the same outfit, and the guy drinking from a glass with a fish in it at 2:20.
2:35 he takes 15 steps

Reference to disc 15 or? 😂

This song seems so ancient, yet perfect for its time. And it's always time for Radiohead.
Update: thank you for the likes and for reading, everyone. Cheers
Wolfdragon92584 it kind of is ancient. It was basically unused tracks for OK computer.
Radiohead is timeless
I heard this song ages ago (in 1996), like it might even have been in demo form during the bends era, but I've always loved it, and glad they brought it out officially (in 2017s ok computer reissue). Such a beautiful song. It just goes to show that styles may change, but every great song has its own 'soul' to it, that will be appreciated and endure whatever the style
I live on the 17th floor of my building and I can say that this is exactly what the daily commute is like
After analysing the video for 2 months I can conclude the lift is going up, because who would take food from their fridge down to outside again.
No, it's going down, look at the little numbers in small screen
Just a reminder that the dude from paranoid android is drinking out of a fish bowl and half the rooms aren’t the right way up, anything can happen in this elevator
What if it's and underground facility?
And what if it's in Australia?
I thought he is holding trash
I've listened to it about 10,000 times now, and it's the only song that gives me goosebumps every time.

God, man...Radiohead's music never ceases to astound me as well as make me want to cry...It's so introspective yet reflective...It makes you contemplate the intricacies and simplicity of life...It pins your heart and penetrates your soul. It's like a hug from a friend who is passing on, melancholy but filled with love. Ok, enough monologue and back to weeping...
Just wanted to express my gratitude to Radiohead for finally releasing this song. It meant a lot to me many years ago, but it also means so much to me now at a different time in my life. Also, thanks to Mr. Oscar Hudson and team for making a great video, which I think adds to the song's impact, especially for those of use who are more visually oriented. So much packt into the song and video, but a few special takeaways for me: as a father, I laughed at how kids can throw a wrench in your plans just as you're starting to get moving. Also, not sure if intentional, but I though of the Harry Dean Stanton character from "Paris, Texas" (guy in red hat). I loved that movie, so maybe its just me, but I appreciated his inclusion.
3:33 Love how the floor number changes between '01' and 'OK' near the end. Nice touch.

their music feels like being seen by someone. Like, really seen and understood.
Man, this song is so bittersweet because I believe that Thom's vocals and most of the music was probably recorded in the early days of Radiohead. Thom's voice was most likely captured in his peak, capturing his essence and emotional feeling in full at the time. We probably won't get any future songs like this absolute gem. I'm sad but happy that I get to experience this song.

:-D nice idea
I think he'd be perfect in something from David Lynch, à la David Bowie in Twin Peaks.
I think Thom is having problems with doors. Maybe is a symbolism from his relationship rupture, he is trying to find new escapes.
Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors lyrics?
I think is the same symbolism used in Daydreaming video
3:11 On the 3rd floor it could be a representation of Amnesiac, and on the 2nd it is a visualization of KID A in chronological order (remember that the elevator is going down) then follow OK COMPUTER, I affirm this because the screen changes to OK.
because OK as the first?
I say it was the most important album and they take it as the beginning of a new stage, since thom enters the first floor and finds himself, so that another thom continues to go down, (thus finding The bends and Pablo). Correct me if you think I'm wrong about something
It's nice that Radiohead are now comfortable enough with their identity to release a song and video that is clearly more of a simple Bends-era song and doesn't have the complexity/subtlety of their later work

You're amazing. I busted out laughing when I read this,
I don't know why but this song kinda reminds me of my childhood.
Volej Core It may have existed during your childhood.
Volej Core Maybe you heard it when you were a kid. It's over 21 years old.
Why did they release it just now? Why hide this masterpiece?
Because it's a 90s radiohead song, which is mainly guitar driven, and a lot of music back then was. Listen to their contemporaries and you'll see what I mean; British bands in the 90s definitely had a certain great sound to them.
Because it sounds like the rest of their songs from the past 30 years?
Me: Hey Siri, make me a playlist of Radiohead's best songs.
Siri: Ok, playing all of Radiohead's songs.
Me: Perfect.
First song: "Now Playing Pop is Dead"
"Now Playing Creep"
"Now playing Wonderwall (cover)"
Matt Kagemage great bhai

Matt Kagemage 🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Siri: Ok, playing everything after Pablo Honey.
Great, i was dying to see the last of the 3 videos for this OKNOTOK edition. It is great how the capture the feel of that album, 20 old, like if it was yesterday. May be one of the best re-issues i've heard and seen. I hope they continue working together for a long time.

I've listened to this song for months and i can confidently say this song changed my life. From the music, to the video, to the symbolism, everything is crafted in a way to make you reexamine life and the fears that come with it. Your fears and anxieties that come with life arent as scary as you think they are. Thank you Yorke for this amazing song. Stay strong y'all.
What has changed?
