- Why Terapagos is a Below Average Legendary in Ubers
Competitive Pokemon
After a month long wait since the arrival on the DLC 2, aka the Indigo Disk DLC, the new legendary Pokemon Terapagos has arrived and is in the Ubers tier. Many would think the long awaited and hyped up legendary Pokemon would be a top tier threat in Ubers, however as many are coming to realize, it has some serious issues that prevent Terapagos being a top tier Pokemon within the singles competitive battles. Q: Where is the gameplay from?
A: Pokemon Showdown
Q: How are the sprites looking like generation 5?
A: Click the settings button and you can change the sprite display
Q: Why is the gameplay have the opponent being dumb?
A: Well surprise its me playing as the opponent as well and having Pokemon faint every 5 seconds isn't as fun as seeing the Pokemon do something in the battle for some time, which is why the gameplay seems like the opponent is braindead. Although I have taken some feedback and have tried to make it more interesting as possible without making the Pokemon faint every 5 seconds for hopefully better entertainment.

What’s sad is that once generation nine passes, Terapagos will be doomed to stay in its terastal form as Tersastalization gets phased out. (🐢)
Best we could hope for is that GameFreak buffs Terapagos in exchange for removing its Tera Form.
It's terastal form is still going to happen.... it just won't get to Terastalize....... which is fine... it'd still be a decent Pokemon....
@@mctankies Probably, as it’s clearly built with its Stellar form in mind. Making it worthwhile outside of that would certainly help.
@@TheDeathmail Its Terastal form is different from its Stellar form. The Terastal form is the form it takes when it switches in.
That is actually probably a good thing because it will have a niche in a tier since it will probably drop to ou.

Main thing the turtle has over most of those mons is that while it does need a lot more to get going, it has likely higher pay off than arceus or kyogre: movepool’s extremely flexible and since it only really needs 3 moves: rock polish, calm mind and tera star storm, 4th move can be whatever it wants to for specific counters.
Trying to status it as it boosts, never mind it used substitute, want to use unaware mons like clodsire to beat it, it just revealed stored power and now just blasts through them, and they can’t tera to resist the hit since then they become weak to tera starstorm
And going back to basis, it does have a no resist powerful stab move as its main attack, that alone is probably something the likes of ekiller and kyogre would kill to have. Also side note, most of the time when using double dance, it prefers polishing first to have the speed to calm mind, or generally have control over the situation, and the Mon actually becomes deadly on screen styles
It's very similar to Zygarde

also there's probably not a better typing than normal for it to be fair, like, 160 HP 110 in both defenses and only weak to one type? Oh, and with a 120 BP from a 130 spatck STAB always neutral move?

I’ve known all along this thing was gonna be smothered by Ubers but I’m waiting in anticipation for it to officially drop to Ubers UU
I imagine it’s bc it’s so Tera reliant and frankly it doesn’t have much going beyond bulk. It’s defenses and offenses are not that impressive when you consider that you have to sacrifice your one Tera for a battle for it. It’s predictable and there’s no other way to use it and be competitive without having it use Tera
Gen 9 DLC legendary are nothing compaired to the DLC for sword/sheild. Gen 8's legendary's were mostly broken. Urshifu and shadowrider were crazy. Infinitly more powerful and impactful then the new legendary pokemon.
Probably for the best so the game isn’t literally pay to win.

It feels a lot more "impactful" for the legendaries to be mid tier, i.e. very strong in ou but not just straight ubers. And remember, last gen had the new bird forms, they were way less devastating than the new paradox legends

Ogerpon is actually pretty darn powerful.....
From playing the tier terapagos is actually semi decent as basically the only hazard control in the meta. Bulky sets can be pretty annoying to kill since the best fighting type in the tier doesn’t carry fighting moves on its un-choiced sets plus it’s ability with its bulk means it can basically always eat one big hit. Offensive sets can lure important Pokémon like HooH. It’s definitely not a world beater but it has it’s got its place and I’d say is a perfectly respectable Pokémon. Less of a Primal-Groudon and more of a Giratina.
Terapagos is more made for doubles, almost all gen 9 pokemon were made with double battles in mind
I'm sure the only reason Terapagos is not UUbers is because it is a genuinely good spinner, the best one by far considering the other two are too easy to punish with Kyogre, and its access to "multiscale" does help a lot. That's a valuable niche but it should fall below 4.5% usage by march because it lacks recovery to be a reliable spinner.
At UUbers, it has to fight with Cyclizar and Tusk for the same role which is not a good sign..

I mostly wish it got access to giga drain or some other consistent recovery move so it would have repeatable use of its non-terastalized form’s ability. It’s okay-ish with using a shell bell for recovery as long as you can deal big damage to your opponent, but it would be better if it was able to recover on its own
While they aren’t as powerful as urshifu or calyrex the real question is do we really want them to be. Do we want another urshifu or Calyrex to mess we this and next gens competitive.

I don't care if kyogre is a better bulky special sweeper, I'll do anything to make the little blue turtle work.

Pecharunt could've been great if their stats weren't so desperate for the 88 theme.
In ubers, sir. Also, pokemon released an origin video for pecharunt and it is a little sympathetic.
And then GameFreak throws this to the Restricted section, so you'll only see it in Regulations where they're legal, but see this in Uubers, still coping if we get Doubles Uubers since I've been enjoying Doubles because of Blueberry Academy.

@@pepsimanboosterarceus starts off as a normal type with 120 across the board right? Turns out it learns both swords dance and extreme speed which is stab on normal arceus. Since gen 5 it has been a great sweeper.

I really love Terapagos and I actually used quite a lot in Gen 9 Doubles Ubers(Since VGC format is not restricted yet) and it’s pretty Solid,although I am not sure if Meteor Beam Set or Calm Mind works

I’m hoping they don’t just gut Tera out of the game like all the other gimmicks, I’m hoping that they’ve been doing all these gimmicks trying to look for one that they actually stick with and I feel like Tera is the best of all of them.

Tbh, I feel like even tho it's really strong in terms of OU, it probably wasn't completely ban worth. Idk, they could've implemented a tera restriction or something- running terapagos eats up your tera slot. That way you can still have all the jank and bulk that comes with it, but it's clearly telegraphed that you'll be relying on it. Hazards nullify its terastal form ability on switch in, also. After that, Tera Starstorm would be the only real point of contention- which probably would still lead to a ban tbf, but idk. Never been a big fan of emergency bans of any kind outside of yugioh, and that only really happens when you get some 5th dimensional jank on your hands in-which the best form of counterplay is to stand up and slam your opponent's head into the table and claim Egyptian Satan made you do it in court
There mainstay rule pretty much is, if you're forced to run it, or counterplay to it, it is too overcentralising to the tier. Also an entire rule having to be coded in just to deal with one pokemon is a clear reason it is a problem

Terapagos’ tera form could have been banned in OU and that’s it. It’s no different than banning a mega form of a specific pokemon

Being that we have stated numerous times we won't weigh in on Tera other than a public suspect vote, it naturally leads to us focusing on Terapagos the mon itself. "

This is why it should've gotten shell smash. Would it have been banned from ubers due to how tera shell and the 160 hp lacks the ability to make it so terapagos is dead or able to be revenge killed by priority? Yeah but it would make sense. It would probably make anything goes healtier by countering calyrex(joke).

We can go back and forth discussing semantics but take away the public research and this cc middleman wouldnt even have these things to say. Im open for these types of discussions as to where terapagos stands now and what not, but not when someone lacks the knowledge and just cranks the echo chamber hypebeast/post new toy syndrome to 10

Even in ubers i wouldnt say tera is “mid” and the one thing that will be proven in time is with the future gimmicks and terapago’s reliance on terastalizing…in time that mid assessment may come true but it still puts up a good fight even in ubers.

Terapagos is like eternatus, just not that great in a meta dominated by the AG worthy demons of Koraidon and Miradon

That's because terapagos relies on its gimmick rather than type or strength. I wouldnt be surprised if it was completely unavailable in the next generation because tera will no longer be a thing and Terapagos literally cannot function without it.
Heck, the story of Terapagos sounds like it is literally made to stay in Paldea because it feeds on Tera energy. They have the perfect excuse to remove Terapagos.
