That is just beautiful. I missed having these conversations with my brother, but since my mother passed he dumps his excitement and frustrations with me now, so I have loads of conversations with him now :D Most of which are kind of like that sentence XD
Latest conversation topic: big numbers, which is ~10. A cubic parsec turns out to be ~ pi lightyears² +/- ~5%. And 52! is way less than the approximate number of atoms in the visible universe, which is several orders of magnitude smaller than a googol, which isn't nearly as big as I thought. But at least I know that I can calculate way more factorials without cheating with noting the answers than I thought. I wish I could do 7! in my head though. I don't like stopping at 6. Hang on... **thinks** **cheats by picturing a note :p** 5040! **checks** BOOYAA! :D

A little googling suggests that this should probably be something like "a parsec turns out to be ~ pi light years +- ~5%," given that a parsec is (approximately) 3.26156 light years, and 1.05 * pi is (approximately) 3.29867. I was inspired to investigate by a bit of dimensional analysis: a parsec and a light year are both units of length, so a cubic parsec is a volume, and cannot equal a scalar number of square light years (which would be an area). Enthusiasm is great, and this is not at all mean to be a criticism, merely a correction.

Really love the content just wanted to give a little feedback. The bingo card dissappears a bit quick so it is hard to see what was crossed off. And it would be great to get to see whats on the card at the begining of the video as well, just to make it a bit more accessible for newbies to anti-mlm content. Metabolic alkalosis is a serious concern, pregnant people with hyperemesis can get it because they vomit off all the acid and the body can’t keep up and if untreated it causes death because of multi organ failure, seizures dehydration from diarrhoea etc. Excess antacid consumption can cause this too.

The thing with all these MLMs is that dissenting voices are naturally filtered out, and it’s sickening that either people can’t see it or are happy to ignore it because they are currently doing well.
And this happens in far too many parts of life. It’s the same thinking that leads people to believing in faith healers, and the same thinking that props up despotic regimes.
Emma - I've binged nearly all your videos in the past week or two. I love that they are typically quite long. Your brilliantly witty and well-informed takes on MLM content are delightful, and I particularly enjoyed watching your Q&A with the former JuicePlus member. You are evidently passionate about the topic and care tremendously about the ethical issues involved in MLM. I also really enjoy watching your feminist/humanist content, and your "Worst Online Messages" videos really made me laugh. All this to say, PLEASE keep going! Just some interesting info , people who have had gastric sleeves are told never to drink and eat at the same time by their surgeons because it breaks the food down to quick and they will be hungry again sooner , and they will also be able to eat more during that meal .

That first WTF meme really bugged me too, for example, physics person and ex-edgy-teenage-conspiracy fan here, Schumann resonances are the same over the entire planet ... because it's the reverberation of lightning through the entire Earth's ionosphere ... which I just find much cooler than anything they made up.
I love (....hate) when people presume thag "pyramid shaped" perfectly encapsulates everything a pyramid scheme ever was, and ever will describe. It's a pyramid scheme because you can't move up, you can only build a miniature pyramid below you. If you need to recruit, or if you are even lightly encouraged yo recruit, it's a MLM scam, it's a pyramid scheme.

I didn't realise how much the health and wellness guru's had the woo philosophy in their spruiking methods, seeing some of those insta posts was something else.
I mean, the Schumann resonance is real, but the whole spiritualism being interjected is pretty misleading.

I go through New-Age hippie phases, so this was extra hilarious and mildly embarrassing.
Then it got depressing. Health related MLMs seem to be a superior kind of shameless.
I'm very late to the party here, but wow the "coach" story at 20:24 was so gutting. It may as well have been a catfish scam. They're so proud and excited to give away fistfuls of cash and have nothing to show for it.

Camille Flammarion was quite an odd guy, because he was both an astronomer and astrologer. So he'd do observations and then get all kinds of wacky ideas from them. The Technical Difficulties (Tom Scott and friends) have a really funny episode of Citation Needed on him.
I really think this is a good idea. MLM Bingo seems like it demonstrates a truism of the industry. Lean into it.

We will grow, togather. This painfully hilarious considering they probably made this incredibly suitable pun unwittingly... Why do people fall for this stuff? We really need to teach children how to think critically from a way younger age.
My primary school educated us on advertisements when we were ten or so (both the obvious and the hidden kind). Very useful and very practical. I have a feeling this helped nearly all of my classmates to not fall for ads as easily. Even if it's not conscious, if you get taught something like that at such a young age I think it might impact your way of judging things forever.
The teacher made us actively participate as well and later on, we did a lesson or two on how to judge the validity and reliability of the information you find (online and offline. It was in the time when computers weren't a massive thing in society yet).

Also, I've seen people talk about how those weird fonts aren't screen-reader friendly. (Which is why people should avoid them to begin with.) I don't use a screen reader, but I've seen people who do say that those weird fonts don't work well. (They also just.... Don't show up on some devices. Ik one time I saw an MLM pitch on Facebook and my device could only show two words out of, what looked like an entire paragraph. My device didn't recognize the font they used.)

there is a limited number of fonts auto programed into and form of html, about 12 for everything while there are a large amount of others that are on most major browsers this is done so you do not need to store as many charter translation. step outside of these the program does not know what that unicode or askii character unless as part of the website the code tells the browser what it is in some way
So, ordinary jobs are like a pyramid scheme? The problem with their model and comparing it to either a pyramid scheme or an MLM is that the ordinary workers at the bottom are making either a consistent hourly wage or have a set yearly salary. They know how much they will be paid, what they will be able to afford regarding rent, food, bills, etc.
Regardless of whether they will ever be at the top point of that model, they are not left to sit in a mountain of debt, with no way to pay bills and alienated from their friends and family. Instead, they are sitting comfortably in the bottom row with the luxury to decide if they actually want to pull out the ladder and head upwards. They are at the bottom and they are fine, even if they never climb on up to the next row.
Meanwhile, in your MLM, you are absolutely reliant on being one of the small percentage that makes it past the bottom row. You are bleeding money and stability and friends and time while desperately trying to make that climb before everything you have comes crashing down around you, including the damned ladder.
You can't get it through to them.
Plus, you don't have to keep recruiting people who will actually be your competitor and can just buy the products for themselves, so you lose a direct customer
