Their proper explanation: "The foundations of my faith are SO weak I can not risk testing it against the trivial content found within popular culture!" From a Christian: I personally LOVE WandaVision. I enjoy being a Game Master in Dungeons&Dragons. I adore the study of theology and differing spiritualities. I study demonology, the occult and esoteric materials of mysticism. I am a Mythic ranked Player of Magic the Gathering. (MtG Arena) I could rant about this all day...I suppose I shall leave it be. A history they are harking back to in their belief that witches are a danger to their faith! They're using the same concerns hundreds of years later to inform their present real lives
@@daniellesmith2891 no one was burned in Salem. Thats a misconception. They were hung, died in the cells, and the one crushing. Burnings were done in England to heretics, which included anyone that didn't follow the faith of the ruling class, i.e. Catholics is protestants were in charge, or protestants in the case of Bloody Mary.
She apparently went off her meds after getting with him because of their religion, and she was "impure" when they got together and I get the feeling she has never been allowed to forget that.
It makes me so concerned that he gets to tell her what shes allowed to watch. 'Letting her' watch all of it and then changing his mind at the last episode feels like some real mind fuckery and emotional manipulation tactics.
Something I find really sad is that Morgan had a bright singing career ahead of her...until...until she met...until she married Paul. He's abusing his power as a husband and she probably thinks she has to take his bullshit to show her submission
@@Sportsgirl128 yes! He's constantly correcting her, I feel she can't be herself around him and like she's trying really hard to fit this mold of a quiet submissive wife when she's loud and *unapologetic. I'm an ex-fundamentalist Christian and this is all too common. You're told to practice submission during engagement, effectively making you miss all of the red flags that an abusive/controlling partner exhibits.
That so broke my heart! Have you seen the way she shrieks now?! She has a beautiful, beautiful voice but instead of using it properly- as she knows how!- she occasionally sings in this fake, reedy, awful way, on purpose, along with Paul. It's like she is punishing herself for having talent. It makes me ache for her.
I would be willing to bet everything I own and my life that he is abusing her. Christianity is one hell of a drug; I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
I like how sometimes he just stares at her, like he's watching to make sure she doesn't go off script, then turns back to the camera once he's calmed down again
Or maybe he's looking at her while she talks like most people do. I don't support these people at all but let's stop psychoanalizing their body language like a discount bbc sherlock
I read a really spooky book recently in which the main character did lots of withcraft. He did necromancy, transfiguration, and even communed with Satan. The Bible is a really spooky book.
Brings me back to when my dad said I couldn't watch Glee or any shows with gay characters because it will turn me gay or make me accept it. Little did he know I was gay without glee in my life
Same but with witchcraft. My mawmaw always said witchcraft was bad, little did she know I would grow up to be a pagan witch. And I was always told that gays were bad. Then I reached high school and realized I was actually on the ace spectrum (demi) who leans towards liking women.
I saw a video of a former casmate from SNL talking about the Blaine kiss on Glee was too much, and stuff. This was on a some channel, that posted it back in like 2010.
As a practitioner of witchcraft, I’m honored that Paul and Morgan have graced us witches with so much thought and consideration! They seem to take me way more seriously than I could ever take myself, and I’m truly blessed that they put in all that work to help validate my practice~ ^v^
I truly do not understand the distinction between "superhero" and "witch." They're both unnaturally superpowered beings...Also...isn't one of the Avengers LITERALLY a Norse God? EDIT: I would like to emphasize that this comment was only made for exasperated effect. I do, literally, understand the difference between superheroes and witches, just as I know Loki and Thor are based off of Norse Gods. I am just trying to point out the cognitive dissonance from these people who have gotten so much attention from their own community.
Yes, Thor was a storm god in Norse. Jupiter was a weather god in Rome. Mariamman was the Hindu goddess of rain. Egypt had Baal he was another storm god. These Gods can go back to the beginning of time. There is a ton of different interpretations of this storm god. In the bible he is Lucifer. The lightbringer is what lucifer means, another storm god. The superheroes are all connected to these old gods in history. The witches are related to something else entirely in history. I would say neither good. Even though movies or shows might portray them as good. Even though some people think they're witches and don't hurt people. It wouldn't matter even if you don't hurt anyone. What they believe comes from dark history. Witches and these superheroes aren't myth. Every civilization in history believed in both. They had different names for them but they were the same. We didn't have the internet or cell phones then. So it makes one wonder how they all described the same things across the planet during the same time in history. If someone has a answer I would like to hear what they think. I assume it is because they all dealt with the same things. The native Americans had storm gods. They have stories about rituals being done to bring some beings over here, across dimensions. It was described as a small group within this town. The town ended in disaster. With some serpent being that took control of the minds of the people. They called him carnivorous. They never seen those people again. I can't remember how it was told exactly. I think they even said this serpent being had a halo above his head. I'm not sure what they called it then. I would like to hear this story from someone. I have native american family. I never heard this from any of them. It must be that certain tribes knew and passed it down. That is terrifying to me. I bring the serpent up because there is a connection to these storm gods, baal and the bible's serpent.
@@cityman2312 I would say Norse gods have become more "MAIN" stream... Because they have existed for YEARS. If I am not wrong from at least the Viking Era if not older.
It’s weird that he draws the line at her saying “stick up your butt” which, (in spite of the (very) loose double entendre) is not actually a phrase derived from the act of anal sex - but is okay with saying “take a chill pill” a phrase that is, in fact, making reference to the abuse of Xanax. Lol, gotta love that good ole Christian hypocrisy.
Well, it does bring up dildos and butt plugs. Yep. You're right about Christian hypocrisy. I used to date a Christian minister, with a crack habit and multiple girlfriends.
The fact that my name is Paul and that I used to have a crush on a girl named Morgan is making me feel way more embarrassed than would be sane right now
@@nessyness5447 Well she was on medication, anti-depressants I think, and Paul made her stop taking those. I don’t think he has her on any sort of drugs, but honestly I don’t think Morgan was this religious fanatic before she met Paul. @@victoriabryer4710 I also feel he and many other American Christians have a very superficial idea of "witchcraft". It reminds me of how when I was a kid, Pokemon and Harry Potter were seen as "bad" but not Star Wars. 10 years later, my little sister is born and by the time she attends Christian school this has changed because enough time has passed for Harry Potter and Pokemon to be accepted in American pop culture so that Christian Conservatives are no longer offended by it.
@Victoria Bryer reminds me of that witch craft documentary where women were getting ran out of town for witchcraft, after townspeople sought out witch doctors "men" to use witchcraft to break their spells.

It was me. I was the witch that visited Paul. My apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused- I was actually trying to inflict nightmares upon an annoying coworker but I took a wrong turn while in the world of dreams.
Poor Morgan. She just wants to be loved and to have people's approval, and hasn't yet realised that no matter what she does, she'll never be "good enough" for Paul, because their entire relationship depends almost completely on the constantly shifting arbitrary nature of what he wants.
I don't think she's poor at all. She comes across as very arrogant, she thinks she's superior to others because of her believes and projections. But I do agree that she will never be good enough for Paul, as she's not what he's really into ;-)
@@linab.6586 Eh, I don’t think she was that arrogant before she met Paul. She may have been arrogant to an extent, but I think he has her so brainwashed into thinking that what he believes is superior to everyone else’s beliefs. @@gamere105ek2 I agree with you on how she changed after she met him, or married him, it really isnt her fault, she has been brainwashed in a way as Mr athiest and jaclyn Glenn have done videos on this, about Morgan before she met paul
@@cookiesandcream7668 Yeah I agree with you. Unfortunately Morgan’s probably too brainwashed now to ever divorce Paul. I think he probably convinced her of something when they were dating, and just became worse after they got married. They only dated like 7 months before they got married, and from my understanding they only waited that long because Morgan wasn’t ready to get married yet, Paul wanted to get married much sooner. So really to me their whole relationship is just one big red flag, that seems to be pretty prevalent in evangelical traditional marriages.

"Don't let yourself enjoy things" was basically the moral of my evangelical upbringing. Everything is second guessed and there is so much anxiety and stress over whether or not what you're watching is evil. As a huuuuuge nerd, most of the things I enjoyed then (and am allowed to enjoy now, dammit) was frowned on. I love science fiction and fantasy and hooboy. Being a Christian was exhausting and full of guilt and fear and I am so glad I walked away and regret it took me so long to do so.
To be fair it's pretty scary to them, since if you exist and live a happy life with your freedom intact and your choices treated as valid and reasonable.... then .... why do they limit themselves and tie their lives up in knots about sex and families and blah de blah de blah..... Also, have a lovely day.
I was raised in a witch family and I can confirm that 90% of it is just walking around your house while banging pots n pans together and yelling "GTFO of my house, ghosts"

As a practicing secular witch (I dont believe in actual magic) I run into this issue when talking to my mother-in-law. I can never even mention that I'm a witch without her absolutely loosing her mind. She said that us bringing tarot cards in her house was the same as her burning the pride flag in front of us 😂
Christians say stuff like that all the time. They have this idea of "guarding themselves from the world," which is really just isolating themselves. It can't affect your way of thinking if it never comes into contact with you.
It seems like weird logic, yes... but there is a really problematic reasoning behind it - they at first said "we don't let this into our home" but then pretty quickly changed their argument to "it's just common sense" and "nobody should do this!" It's a simple way of arguing people into self-censorship. It's not just that they don't want to get in contact with anything "evil", it's that they want to convince other people of doing the same so these people also don't get in contact with anything challenging the "right" believes Because those that are drawn away from "ungodly" media are so much more easily pursuaded to just consume christian approved media and then slowly you push them towards your own propaganda material. And then they start to drift into the christian approved way of thinking that's why they say that the magic in cinderella is okay for them: It's the story of a helpless girl getting help from a friendly supernatural being that makes everything okay - like god! It's a short step from this story to the bible But WandaVision? How can that evil witch dare to do magic on her own! She is helping herself and doesn't need god and therefore this story is evil! Get away from it and watch something friendly and happy and stop challenging the idea of god and accept that god is good and christianity is perfection and we all need to praise jesus and we all need to praise the leaders of our church... So "don't let evil into your tv" is really not that weird - it's just the first step in brainwashing people into their believes
His spirit told him 😳 sounds like Witchcraft to me Paul. As Witches famously have familiar spirits to guide them. In conclusion Paul is a self-hating witch 😜
@@cityman2312 especially with Christianity and Paganism, mostly because alot of Christian celebrations were originaly pagan holidays, (halloween, christmas, valentine's day, easter. atleast most of the symbolism for the last one) and alot of traditions are pagan in origin. christmas for example, the christmas tree, originaly was a pagan tradition, same with candles, and evergreens in general. As someone who very quietly considers themselves a Christian, their world view seems terrifyingly narrow, discriminatory, and specific. It kinda sounds like they're terrified of all television, maybe even media. I'd give God is Grey a watch, her recent video on the lilnasx video is epic and affirming. What we Do in the Shadows is one of my favorite shows.
God is Grey is run by a lost soul...... her teachings are so far from God's Word. Wake up people. READ YOUR BIBLES!!! Otherwise start your own religion.
@@solochristo65 Absolutely, read your bibles! My favourite parts are those in which men have to marry their slaves if they rape them ( heterosexual rape committed by a man, obviously, it would be immoral otherwise ), women have to sleep somewhere else when they are menstruating and children who lie must be brought to the main square so old people can stone them to death. Another good part is when a woman eats an apple ( terrible! ) and somehow everybody else is guilty of that crime too, including those who weren't even born at the time. Luckily the person who got so offended decided to forgive everybody, and realised that the best way to really forgive was by nailing his son to two planks. Nobody ever managed to forgive others without sacrifices - the closely blood related the innocent victim, the better :-) Also, let's not forget the story in which men are consensually bumming each other, a man thinks it's wrong so he suggests they all rape his super young daughters, the men refuse for at least three obvious reasons, and everybody apart from that man and his daughters are killed. So that he can then rape his own daughters and get them pregnant. It does make you angry when people don't take those wonderful books seriously, doesn't it! We should all forgive those lost souls anyway. Let's nail our kids to two planks of wood, that will make the forgiving process easier ;-)
@@solochristo65 so as someone who has read your Bible, you know that pro-life isn’t a biblical stance and the only reason a woman’s pregnant body was ever protected was as man’s property? And you know the word used as gay actually originally meant pedophile? And you know modesty originally meant not wearing gold and having fancy hairstyles, and had nothing to do with sexual repression? Good good.
Watching Paul interact with his wife is chilling to me. I spent the majority of my life in the clutches of fundamentalist Christianity. Watching this vid took me back to the early days of my marriage when my wife and I were heavily engaged in "youth ministry" and the same dynamic was present-dominant husband who calls the shots and subjective wife who's life goal is to please God by pleasing her husband. Some of Paul's body language and expressions made me extremely uncomfortable, especially seeing how Morgan's personality is more innocent and happy go lucky enough to simply restrain herself to be a follower and suppress her own desires and opinions. It would not surprise me in the least to learn within the next five years that Paul has had an affair (or multiple). It's a sad reality of the repressed territory they are both living in and usually ends up with a ministerial redemption arc for the man and the woman fading into obscurity.
Encouragement is such a loaded term for me, too. That was the word used to describe pithy slogans like "good times don't last but strong people do" in the book The Fault In Our Stars.

As a kid (back when I was a Christian) I was taught that witchcraft is real. I remember being told about witches praying to Satan to give them powers to harm Christians. Also, I remember as a kid wondering if I should still read Harry Potter or watch Sabrina the Teenaged Witch because they were about witchcraft/magic.
As someone raised by parents with similar views as Paul and Morgan, I can tell you why my mom said we were not allowed to watch the Smurfs, or read Harry Potter, or have our fortunes read (though fortune cookies were okay for some reason lol). She said that it would "open us up to demonic forces." And yes, my parents really do believe in witches. There is no rational reason really...and that's why Paul and Morgan couldn't give you one. It boils down to irrational fear of "dark powers" and God's wrath.
Wow. "Demonic forces" sounds just like what I heard about when I grew up being raised as a JW into my 20's. I thought they were the only religion (cult) that really felt that way. The Smurfs thing, Harry Potter, etc. all would weaken your spiritual fortitude and allow demons to influence your thoughts and draw your thinking out of line of the One True God, Jehovah. 🙄 (Yes, I know I'm late to the conversation, but I'm trying to get caught up on all the videos.)
when i was like 12 i asked one of my friends if she liked harry potter. she said “no, i’m a christian!” i asked what she meant, she said her mom says she’s not allowed to read or watch anything with witches in it. i tell her i’m a christian and i like harry potter (both were true at the time. neither is true now). she says her mom says that if she reads it, she’ll start to think SHE’S a witch, and jump off a cliff because she thinks she can fly. i say “have i jumped off a cliff? i definitely don’t think witches are real, that’s stupid.” it was funny to me because she was older and “cooler” in every other sense (for a middle schooler), she’d had boyfriends and she would take me with her to hang out with boys, she was allowed to listen to whatever music she wanted, and had dyed hair and a cell phone with which she texted boys. but she was afraid to watch a movie with witches because her mom said it was bad.
What wild parental priorities 😂 you can have a mobile phone and talk to boys in middle school but I draw the line at a pretend magical boarding school!
@@emilyclarke8222 i think her mom was legitimately scared of witchcraft... she was a weird lady lol. her parents were pretty lenient with her other than that and making her go to church though. i didn’t realize at the time, because my family believed in science and stuff, but some religious leaders really just tell their congregations just like. the tallest of tales, about witches and satanists and homosexuals and how they want to make you to get abortions and denounce god and commit suicide. a few of my friends parents thought that i had “brought lesbianism” into their daughters because i was the first one in the friend group to come out.
Um, that doesn’t sound like a religious problem. That sounds like a problem with common logic. That’s like saying it you read Narnia you’re going to ram your head into Closets or if you read Old Yeller, your going to shoot puppies. Something might be a bit lost in between. And the strange thing is, I’ve heard this before from Christians as well.
@@dylantennant6594 it’s a VERY popular scare tactic with religious leaders to convince the congregation that their children are being led astray by satan in some form or another. they like to say kids struggle to tell the difference between fiction and reality, right and wrong, and that’s why they must be “carefully guided” through life and avoid things that could “confuse” them at a formative stage and cause them to either commit suicide or become criminals. the tactic is designed to teach people to fear everything outside of their very small, restricted world. in the 2000s it was harry potter, in the 80s they said dungeons & dragons involved satanic rituals, summoning demons, and ritual suicide. and now i guess scarlet witch is working with the powers of lucifer too lol
Her parents' theory really doesn't stand up to scrutiny. With however many millions of people there are who have read and/or watched Harry Potter the skies would be crowded with all of us riding our broomsticks...
It's interesting to me how people who think cursing is so wrong use words in place of them like "frick"... It has the same implications. Edit: fixed my grammar
Exactly, those words are "bad" because we make them bad, it's the meaning we give it. (Not talking about words that cause harm- like racial slurs, etc.)
Right? What would they do if society eventually decided that the words they've been using are bad too? The N word used to be used by everyone and wasn't considered a swear word, it was just a degrading term that even children used! We ultimately decide as a whole society what words are dirty or not. 🤷🏻♀️
(Also I want to make it clear that I don't approve of the n word, I've never ever used it in my life, and think it's 100% unacceptable, haha. I'm saying that people in general used to think it was okay to say even though obviously it isn't).
As a practicing witch, I am perfectly fine with them being afraid of me. lol And...as someone that grew up in the church...great grandmother on my mom's side was a schizophrenic preacher, and my grandpa on my dad's side was a snake handler for his church....yes...they truly believe witchcraft is real and directly in league with Satan. This is just common among evangelicals. Despite the bible's favorite characters practicing witchcraft..but whatever. lol
I grew up pentecostal holiness. Pretty crazy b.s. As for Christians not practicing "dark magic", the good ol' Apostle Paul sicks Satan himself on a man who is a member "of the brethren" who is making out with one of his widowed in-laws. "And we pray to deliver him unto Satan, unto his bodily destruction..." So, umm...that's kind of awkward, I thought.

If you're interested in learning why Xians like Paul and Morgan are concerned about things like "welcoming something into their life" and so forth, I recommend reading the novels "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness" by Frank Peretti. He wrote them during the Satanic Panic of the 1980s, and they were very influential on how the Evangelical church teaches and visualizes what they call "spiritual warfare." Those books are a great primer on why Evangelicals feel the way they do about witches, demons, yoga, meditation, and more.
Morgan reminds me of one of my ex girlfriends, ”R.” Her family is born-again, Young Earth Creationist, Christian, and she was the black sheep for not being particularly religious at all. While we were dating and living together, she was mostly into rock and metal, played Magic, D&D and other RPGs, and the miniatures game Malifaux with me and my friends, having not been able to play any of that when she was younger. She was quite invested and passionate about it. But then, after we broke up, and she started seeing a guy who is Christian, she completely changed. One of the few times she contacted me at the beginning of their relationship what's to see if I wanted some stuff she was getting rid of. She was getting rid of the Sword of Fire and Ice, Maze Runner and some other fantasy and / or sci-fi books, some r-rated movies like Deadpool, and Cards Against Humanity because her husband wouldn't approve. Not hanging out with me anymore was understandable. But she stopped hanging out with all of her other friends because her husband didn't approve of them.
Morgan was on her way to trying to have a "secular" music career in which she sang songs sometimes in flashy or seductive aesthetic. Paul completely changed her and he shames her so much about her past. So yeah very very similar to your situation.
I dated a couple of witches. We should totally binge-watch "Wandavision" together! On both dates, we binge-watched "American Horror Story!" Imagine what they'd think of that show, lol!
I like how Morgan keeps looking at Paul when she is talking. It's like she is making sure she does not say something he disagrees with. It's obvious who is in "control" in the relationship!
They have done a few videos about how Morgan learned to be a submissive wife, and about how men are better leaders than women. They also made a video about Morgan asking Paul for forgiveness because she wasn't a virgin when they got married. The whole video is Morgan talking like a child about how they made a mess while Paul sat next to her, staring at her and nodding his head. The relationship dynamics are very sad and emotionally/mentally damaging.

Most of us can tell the difference between fantasy and reality and therefore can enjoy fantasy without thinking that these fantasy elements will somehow destroy our lives or turn us “evil”.
It doesn't help when you believe that there is a god that is both so powerful he can create the universe, but also so weak his influence can be drowned out by watching one show with a witch in it. Like fundamentalist christians already prime themselves to believe in the fantastic and fear it. It's not a huge step to believe there's bad juju in watching a witchy show. It's sad really.
They've put out content specifically about how a wife should be submissive to her husband. These are the prime example of what is wrong with fundamentalist christians and how they harm themselves and others by spreading these "lessons"
She literally has tattoos which her husband would never let her get, she also was a pop singer, which he wouldn't let her be either. She was a completely different person before Paul. So it's not like any of her real beliefs are similar to his, so she can only copy his opinions.
You can't deny that she is agreeing with everything her husband is saying but you have to push the tired BS narrative that the wife is the victim and the husband is the bad guy and he controls her so you say that she's ''regurgitating what he is saying and is succumbed to his way of life and can't think for herself." Typical. Have a good day!
I am sorry to say that Morgan has already invited darkness into her life. He is called Paul, it is clear that what Paul fears is his wife enjoying something. Helping her, realise what a boring idiot he is. Love your stuff Emma, keep up the good work.
Wow, as a former Christian it weird how much of this reminds me of my self in middle school. This is not about a fear of evil, but a fear of the "slippery slope" of temptation. They are living in a world where they think TV is the ultimate gateway temptation. This is something that many adults tried to push on me as a young adult.
My parents, who are heavily Christian, totally are super similar to this in specific cases. I think the biggest example is that I play D&D alot, and they've told me so many times to "just make sure that I don't start to believe in D&D more than Jesus," like I'm going to start worshipping Wizards of the Coasts and read my Player's Handbook as a bible 😆
My mom was super worried about me playing D&D cause she thought it was some evil shit 😈 was also not allowed to read or watch Harry Potter until we had a "family meeting" cause my older sister really wanted to watch it, they were like okay as long as you don't believe it's real lolol now they love he Harry potter movies and my mom loves Wanda vision lmao
Have you seen Dark Dungeons? It was just amazing for someone who is into roll playing games. Also since it is based on the chick tract it works for religious people too.
1) your keyboard is DELIGHTFULLY clickety clacky 🤩 2) I laughed so much at the "xoxoxoxox" bit 🤣 You're amazing Emma and this video reminded me that I need to give WandaVision a second chance.
The way you say "Christian" is so pretty! I'm a witch that grew up fundamentalist Christian in the midwest US so I can shed some light on this subject. The reasoning that they are following is exclusionary because their faith does not encourage individual discernment. If you have members of the church thinking critically about belief systems they will start to notice the holes in their own beliefs. The result is a echo chamber that worships "purity" and demonizes everything else. I attended many churches in varying levels of extremes and sects (Catholic, Baptist, Non-Denominational ect.) and the consistent thing that I saw was a culture of shaming to conform to a singular ideal. That shame turns to fear in every day life including participating in consuming pop culture. They think that if they perceive something outside that ideal and they are personally okay with it, they are on the path to hell. I remember being terrified of watching horror movies because I believed that demons could come through the media and torment me. So it makes sense they are afraid of stuff they are not allowed to understand. I feel sorry for them :(
Growing up mostly in the south, this sounds like so many people I grew up around. They don’t realize how ridiculous they sound. And the way he talks to her and controls her is awful. I feel bad for them.
10:27 "If you have nightmares put a hag stone over your bed attached by a string." -- They're also very effective at warding off cyclopes. I've never yet heard of anyone who was attacked by a cyclops while wearing or carrying a hag stone.
Back when I was still Christian, my biggest pillar of my personal faith was that I *should* learn about other religions, other beliefs, and invite them into my home as a way to reinforce my own beliefs. My biggest question was always "Am I Christian because of the way I was raised into it, or am I a Christian through my own faith." Talking about philosophy and other religions and the merits of different ways of thinking about God and god and gods was my favorite thing to do. And it all connected back to the parable of one lost sheep coming back to the flock being more important to the shepherd than the ones who stayed without ever trying to wander about. I took that to heart and constantly challenged myself and my beliefs. Now, spoiler alert, there's a reason I said "when I was still christian" because ultimately, it did cause me to leave christianity, but, I feel like the entire religion of christianity would be healthier with this type of mindset instead of shunning anything different for fear of it changing them.
@EC Welling Sounds about right... Weird how modern Christians (at least in the US) have seemed to have forgotten all those stories about Jesus hanging out with prostitute and tax collectors (ooooohh no, tax collectors! Those scumbag government employees! Anyway, I digress...)
No, no they can't. They don't procress the grief of losing a loved one. They, and everyone tell them that it's all okay because they will see them again. It's a terrible shortcut that becomes self reinforcing later in life if they ever try and leave the religon.
It’s well known that Christians who live sheltered lives (aka the most judgmental ones) can’t handle dark subjects because it might shatter their worldview. This ignorance blocks their ability to empathise with others, especially those in a dark place, which is ironically the opposite of what Jesus wanted people to do. I wonder if helping the sick and needy is “too much” for them too, despite it being one of Jesus’ commands.
For my two cents, Wanda is like a channel for chaos magic, which, as I understand, goes back to The One Above All and if you interpret that entity or power as a representation of a God or the biblical God, she's basically an enlightened prophet as would be everyone in the marvel universe with a direct link to TOAA. And that's from a perspective of me as an atheist myself.
I had personal experience with people like this. My sister, who I adore, was a bit of a badass growing up. She was the kind of kid a little brother could look up to. She got married, and swore off anything that isn't cult approved. She stopped watching anything with any sort of magic, keeping them away from her kids, as well. She even stopped listening to her music, which was mostly 80s hair band stuff. I'm sure... this was entire her decision, and had nothing whatsoever to do with the pastor she married... Watching this video, I got flashbacks. Fucking hell... I've never seen a horror movie that gave me the creeps like this did, and my own personal experience of it did.
"this was entire her decision, and had nothing whatsoever to do with the pastor she married" if someone completely changes everything they like and enjoy because they marry someone who isn't into it then it is not their decision. Eventually that marriage will blow up in the worst possible way and it's quite possible that she will dampen her depression with drugs or alcohol before that happens.
its crazy cuz, historically, people would call women witches for being smarter than men/ able to create things "a women shouldn't be able to do" like medicine.
*historically meaning in Judeo-Christian cultures. Prior to the Hebrew fiddle faddle about Eve and original sin this wasn't a thing at all. Historically all such people were regarded as wise - unless they demonstrably caused death while claiming to help.... that kind of thing tends to prejudice folk against you 😅
In a lot of places, the most medically competent people were midwives and, since midwifing was traditionally a women-only profession, the monks who were talking about medicine and writing medical manuals had to get their knowledge from them, which was difficult when your local bishop is threatening people for tolerating pagans. It was also difficult to do medicine in general when the recipes used in your medical manuals list herbs are rare where you're at or, worse, they don't grow at all where you're at. Are you going to swallow your pride and ask the pagan locals what they use here for stuff (and risk the ire of Church authorities because you're making them look weak/incompetent), or do you pretend that there's only one way to do medicine, namely the way the Church promotes? The history of medicine is just as political as anything else.
I remember when my daughter was really little, my very religious grandmother sent me an email to warn me about reading Harry Potter out loud to her. She said that it would summon demons. I honestly laughed. By the way, I also like doesthedogdie. I have PTSD from a sexual assault and it helps me know if a movie contains scenes like that so I can avoid it.
I love doesthedogdie.com. I admit I usually do use it specifically because I'm a lot less likely to watch and enjoy a movie if there's unnecessary or graphic animal deaths, but it's also very helpful for other reasons. I have epilepsy, but LOVE horror movies. Many horror movies use strobe type effects that can sometimes affect me, especially in a movie theater type of environment (large screen, dark room). I'll often check the website before deciding for sure if I'm going to go see it.
In the comics Agatha wasn't bad, she was the one who taught Wanda about her powers she also worked with the Fantastic Four and Wanda if I remember correctly but she was 200 years old and was from the Salam Witch Trials. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created the Character. Her cat is named Ebony and was her familiar. Also Wanda isnt a Witch shes a mutant
They allow Witchcraft to trigger them.... maybe they should read the bible ( read it with a open mind) from cover to cover , some time ..instead of cherry picking your way through it !
I grew up being told that the things that I liked (outside of Christian literature or academics) were either insipid or bad and sometimes both. The idea that “being in the world” not “of the world” and Phillipians 4:8 were used to prove why any number of things were inappropriate for a young Christian. Different adults would have different standards & were all very willing to push those standards on me. It was a lot more about control than protection. (My most successful teenage rebellion was listening to classical music. Since it had no lyrics, my mom couldn’t ban it the way she did alternative music.)
my parents threw away all my dungeons and dragons figures and books as a kid, once they became Christian because it was "demonic" yet they were the ones that bought them all for me.
I feel sorry for Morgan. If you watch Jaclyn Glenn's video on what she used to be like before dating Paul, you can see how unhappy she is with him. Especially after this last year.
Ask around. I like to read super questionable looking books in public, but more so ones that people ‘in the know’ might recognize but muggles wouldn’t.
I feel so bad for Morgan. I think without Paul she'd just live a very happy life without having to constantly sacrifice harmless fun things she obviously likes because he disapproves of them.
My one encounter with hyper-Christians was in college. I was invited to a party by a classmate, and she said it was a 'dry' party, which was fine with me. I only realized how hyper-Christian they were when we watched a movie and they all looked away from the screen and hit fast-forward to avoid a scene where a man and a woman kissed. And I'm not talking writhing and tongue action. I'm talking a closed-mouth kiss without even a close hug. - It was so weird to me, an atheist raised in a Protestant family with full access to broadcast television.
One of my best/worst childhood stories was when Finding Nemo came out and we weren’t allowed to watch it because Nemo “is disrespectful to his dad” and because his dad “doesn’t pray that he can find his son”. Like that was totally normal and okay things for Pixar to promote in the Common Era 2003 😂
"Of course they hated it, its about women having pleasure" I had to rewind the video to make sure I heard this correctly!! I laughed even harder after the 2nd time hearing it!!!
lmao it’s so ‘counter cultural’ to stop watching a tv show halfway through the season as if that’s not the reason dozens of shows get cancelled every year
So when I was a kid, my mom gave me this devotional book to read before bed each night. The idea is to read one short story paired with a Bible verse every day to strengthen your faith. Now most of the lessons were pretty generic, like being honest or charitable. But there is only one single entry that has occupied space in the back of my mind for about 20 years because of how bizarre it was and how bad it made me feel at that time. The story that night involved a kid who really liked a particular sword-and-sorcery style video game. He loved the cool things the main character could do, like shoot lightning and fly. He wasn't obsessed with the game, or letting it eat up all his time. He just had fun playing a game. But then someone, I think a pastor, told him that giving God's power (i.e. magic) to something else was just like worshiping a false idol, and of course that's breaking one of the Ten Commandments. So the kid threw out his video game. Now, I didn't throw out any of my stuff, but it messed with my head and made me feel a little guilty when I watched Pokémon that week. So I think that's where a lot of Christians who say they're against witchcraft in fiction are coming from. It's this idea of giving power that should exclusively be God's to another entity that becomes a form of idol worship, and that's what could supposedly weaken their faith. These two are so brainwashed, though, that it seems like they either can't articulate that point or they believe their target audience already understands it.
What is what is frustrating to me is in general I agree with them - don’t keep doing something (like watching a tv show) because you feel like you have to or you’ve already invested too much into it. But like also it seems like she’s not watching it just because he says they shouldn’t ... and that bothers me

Their proper explanation: "The foundations of my faith are SO weak I can not risk testing it against the trivial content found within popular culture!"
From a Christian: I personally LOVE WandaVision. I enjoy being a Game Master in Dungeons&Dragons. I adore the study of theology and differing spiritualities. I study demonology, the occult and esoteric materials of mysticism. I am a Mythic ranked Player of Magic the Gathering. (MtG Arena)
I could rant about this all day...I suppose I shall leave it be. O.o
You should check out jaclyn glens video on morgan before she met paul. He seems to have completely brainwashed her
I love how they talk about how "dark" the Salem witch trials were as if that's not a part of their Christian history and culture.
A history they are harking back to in their belief that witches are a danger to their faith! They're using the same concerns hundreds of years later to inform their present real lives
Yeah, really dark when the puritans murdered innocent women. That is their history as much as ours (witches)
Right. We should fear people who burn women.
The Salem Witch Trials is very overblown. No where NEAR as bad as everyone made it out to be. It's more legend than fact now.
I feel bad for Morgan, what a depressing relationship to be in. She can't even watch a show she likes if her husband doesn't like it.
She was so different before they got together
@@Ak-vz8zc Yeah, I've seen that. Really sad, I hope she wakes up and divorces him one day.
She apparently went off her meds after getting with him because of their religion, and she was "impure" when they got together and I get the feeling she has never been allowed to forget that.
I would never be able to watch TV again if I could only watch stuff my husband likes. He and I do not usually like the same shows.
She nearly has a singing career. Her voice is good, too.
Paul and Morgan's logic: "I wouldn't let a wild animal into my home, so I won't watch a nature documentary."
Well unless they buy a big boat for a house. Then let in the pairs.
And God forbid the animals are having sex in the documentary😜

My takeaway is that Morgan REALLY wants to watch that finale.
Yup and he's convinced her that she's somehow "resisting temptation" by not doing so. I wonder if she secretly watched it behind his back tbh.
@@s0lastsummer7 I hope so! But then I bet she'd feel so much shame if she did.
My second takeaway is that Morgan should ditch Paul.
@The Creature Sadly yes.
It makes me so concerned that he gets to tell her what shes allowed to watch. 'Letting her' watch all of it and then changing his mind at the last episode feels like some real mind fuckery and emotional manipulation tactics.
As a pagan.... I am glad they are afraid of me, and I will not be sharing any of my WiTcHy honey bread

Yup, I wouldn't be able to tolerate their bigotry all up in my space. I'll accept them being afraid if that means they'll stay far, far away.
Oohh, perfect for beltane
Ooh I was gonna make some honey bread for Beltane
Something I find really sad is that Morgan had a bright singing career ahead of her...until...until she met...until she married Paul. He's abusing his power as a husband and she probably thinks she has to take his bullshit to show her submission
I feel like I even saw her being submissive in this video and constantly looking for affirmation that she's saying the right things based on her eyes.
It makes me ache for her.
i was just about to comment on how awesome Morgan seemed prior to marrying Paul... i hope she finds herself & her voice again
Not where I thought that was gonna go. The Read more cut it off just before "Bible"
This is comedy gold right here 🤣

Brings me back to when my dad said I couldn't watch Glee or any shows with gay characters because it will turn me gay or make me accept it. Little did he know I was gay without glee in my life
Same but with witchcraft. My mawmaw always said witchcraft was bad, little did she know I would grow up to be a pagan witch. And I was always told that gays were bad. Then I reached high school and realized I was actually on the ace spectrum (demi) who leans towards liking women.
@Jayla Taylor I hope he has resolved that in himself and realized that it's OKAY...all the love to you!
I saw a video of a former casmate from SNL talking about the Blaine kiss on Glee was too much, and stuff. This was on a some channel, that posted it back in like 2010.

It's a newer mythology. Superman, Batman and even Bugs Bunny could count as a 20th century pantheon. Bugs Bunny would be a trickster figure.
@@cityman2312 Bugs 10/10 suits the trickster label :)

Everything is second guessed and there is so much anxiety and stress over whether or not what you're watching is evil. As a huuuuuge nerd, most of the things I enjoyed then (and am allowed to enjoy now, dammit) was frowned on. I love science fiction and fantasy and hooboy. I had to write an essay to my church on why Pokemon isn't evil and satanic in order to be able to play the card game. My church picketed the first Harry Potter movie. Being a Christian was exhausting and full of guilt and fear and I am so glad I walked away and regret it took me so long to do so.

As a practicing secular witch (I dont believe in actual magic) I run into this issue when talking to my mother-in-law. I can never even mention that I'm a witch without her absolutely loosing her mind. She said that us bringing tarot cards in her house was the same as her burning the pride flag in front of us 😂
I got interested in Paganism as a teenager and mentioned that I wanted a tarot deck. My very Christian mother acted as if I wanted a lump of uranium.
Haha she'd love me then, crystals, singing bowls, Reiki practicing..the list goes on...and on :P
Hey, another witch that doesn't actually believe in magic!!! I wish I found more of us.
You should tell her "cool. You burn the flag, and we'll bring the cards." No more problem.
"Watching something on the TV screen is exactly the same thing as physically letting that thing into your house" is really weird logic.
i would pay good money to see paul and morgan watch "the ring"
Christians say stuff like that all the time. They have this idea of "guarding themselves from the world," which is really just isolating themselves.
It can't affect your way of thinking if it never comes into contact with you.
It seems like weird logic, yes... but there is a really problematic reasoning behind it - they at first said "we don't let this into our home" but then pretty quickly changed their argument to "it's just common sense" and "nobody should do this!"
It's a simple way of arguing people into self-censorship. It's not just that they don't want to get in contact with anything "evil", it's that they want to convince other people of doing the same so these people also don't get in contact with anything challenging the "right" believes
Because those that are drawn away from "ungodly" media are so much more easily pursuaded to just consume christian approved media and then slowly you push them towards your own propaganda material. And then they start to drift into the christian approved way of thinking
that's why they say that the magic in cinderella is okay for them: It's the story of a helpless girl getting help from a friendly supernatural being that makes everything okay - like god!
It's a short step from this story to the bible
But WandaVision? How can that evil witch dare to do magic on her own! She is helping herself and doesn't need god and therefore this story is evil! Get away from it and watch something friendly and happy and stop challenging the idea of god and accept that god is good and christianity is perfection and we all need to praise jesus and we all need to praise the leaders of our church...
So "don't let evil into your tv" is really not that weird - it's just the first step in brainwashing people into their believes
I can't think of any good movies that I would actually want to happen in my house except for really basic children's film
So they NEVER se murder or crime/gangster movies...😇😳🤷♂️

Another good part is when a woman eats an apple ( terrible! ) and somehow everybody else is guilty of that crime too, including those who weren't even born at the time. Luckily the person who got so offended decided to forgive everybody, and realised that the best way to really forgive was by nailing his son to two planks. Nobody ever managed to forgive others without sacrifices - the closely blood related the innocent victim, the better :-)
Also, let's not forget the story in which men are consensually bumming each other, a man thinks it's wrong so he suggests they all rape his super young daughters, the men refuse for at least three obvious reasons, and everybody apart from that man and his daughters are killed.
The way Paul says "...then I probably would have given her some encouragement" is bone-chilling.
Wasent it just. Controlling much.

Those books are a great primer on why Evangelicals feel the way they do about witches, demons, yoga, meditation, and more.
Morgan reminds me of one of my ex girlfriends, ”R.”
Her family is born-again, Young Earth Creationist, Christian, and she was the black sheep for not being particularly religious at all.

There's literally nothing more satisfying in the world than hearing you say the word Christian. your voice is just so pretty dude

10:27 "If you have nightmares put a hag stone over your bed attached by a string." -- They're also very effective at warding off cyclopes. I've never yet heard of anyone who was attacked by a cyclops while wearing or carrying a hag stone.
that means it's working ;)
Shows what you know about cyclopes.
😂
It just seems like a good way to have a stone fall on you during the night.
That is similar to what happened to me
Hey! Same!
Yup. Same... It's funny how that works.
If all Christians had that mindset then... there wouldn't be very many Christians lmao sounds like a win win.
@EC Welling Sounds about right... Weird how modern Christians (at least in the US) have seemed to have forgotten all those stories about Jesus hanging out with prostitute and tax collectors (ooooohh no, tax collectors! Those scumbag government employees! Anyway, I digress...)
"it's dark and heavy"... Can they not deal with grief? Hmm.
Also imagine not having your own personality/hobbies outside your partner.. gosh.
This coming from people who use The Bible as a life guide.
No, no they can't. They don't procress the grief of losing a loved one. They, and everyone tell them that it's all okay because they will see them again. It's a terrible shortcut that becomes self reinforcing later in life if they ever try and leave the religon.
Right?! Wasn’t the crucifixion terribly heavy and dark? It’s literal torture and murder in the name of “God”
I've never seen a horror movie that gave me the creeps like this did, and my own personal experience of it did.
im sorry for her.
That's sad. I'm sorry for her.

Historically all such people were regarded as wise - unless they demonstrably caused death while claiming to help.... that kind of thing tends to prejudice folk against you 😅
Historically in northern european cultures women were actually held up as the wisest

"Why is witchcraft in fiction so dangerous?"
It's triggering, you see, because one time Paul got turned into a newt. /s
That's what happened two years ago. 😂😂
He got better...
They allow Witchcraft to trigger them.... maybe they should read the bible ( read it with a open mind) from cover to cover , some time ..instead of cherry picking your way through it !
William, I thank you for the Monty Python reference...
King Arthur : How do you know she's a witch ?
Villager : She turned me into a newt !
Even worse he turned back into Paul.
Morgan: Why would I invite that darkness into my life?
Me: Ah you mean Paul? He's the darkness ☠️
Don't insult the Darkness please

I dont know any christains who get queasy during love scenes. Most christains i know are reasonable.
