  • This video features a critical analysis and reaction to Gary Brecka, who claims expertise in health based on his background in human biology and insurance. Martin McPhilimey, a specialist in respiratory physiology since 2008, dissects Brecka’s claims about breathing, grounding, and hyperoxygenation, highlighting numerous inaccuracies and misconceptions. Brecka’s suggestions, like the use of a PMF mat for better sleep and altering blood pH, or his interpretations of oxygen therapy and breath work, are scrutinised for scientific validity. The aim is to expose the lack of evidence behind Brecka’s statements and the potential for spreading disinformation, emphasising the importance of relying on expert opinions and scientific literature instead of unverified claims.

      @PerformanceThroughHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes… he is good with the Art of influence. I wouldn't be surprised if the stories/emotions he shows in this video are false. There are many other areas where I can see this conversation is more about marketing than scientific sharing. Most of the good info he shares is common knowledge apart from the genetic stuff but that's not an area I can critique.

  • @CancerTreatmentOutcomes
    @CancerTreatmentOutcomes หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Thanks for daring to debunk someone at the height of his popularity. Gary tells an interesting story, shares alot of free stuff and his thinking is certainly food for thought. But my alert alarm gets triggered when I start thinking I must get that once in a lifetime genetic test for 600 dollars, followed by the 10x supplements, and maybe get on the bandwagon and join the 10x affiliate program. Instead of the genetic test I can make an educated stab at "what if?" and defuse potential dangers by cleaning up my diet. All the information sounds like it makes alot of sense, until the "pay here" sign appears. Gary has also reviewed his thinking and standpoints on different topics, including keto and fasting, which makes me think, how long before he changes his mind on the genetic test and comes up with the advice "oh no, you need to take the test again?". I am still open to his teachings, but also very wary about what is being offered.

    • @PerformanceThroughHealth
      @PerformanceThroughHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. To be honest, I hesitated to debunk Brecka for a few months due to pushback and the fear of abuse I would receive on here. However, after speaking to a few people about it, they said that if I truly believe he's sharing potentially harmful disinformation, then it's a duty to correct it. I did undergo a genetic test (from a different company) and found that all the things it mentioned, similar to what Gary talks about, were absolutely fine. So, I do believe that if people simply focus on eating well, exercising regularly, managing stress, and getting enough sleep, there's no need for supplements. I view Biohacking as an industry that preys on those with health anxiety, and Brecka is currently the face of that. Some of the sound advice is as generic as what most popular health influencers discuss, but the ones he promotes the most (often with poor science) are the ones he has products to sell. He's a bit of a snake oil businessman who peddles fool's gold that sounds like science.

    A $5 O2 sensor the plugs over the finger can easily show the O2 percentage in your blood and more than 97% is the standard as I understand it. How does that relate to what Bracka is saying about respiration. It seems that one can measure their O2 level and be done with it. Also buddhist training generally teaches breathing by using the diaphram to control breath.

    • @PerformanceThroughHealth
      @PerformanceThroughHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are correct and if you put the oximeter on your finger the level of O2 might go from 97 to 99% with what Gary suggests but then eventually fall into hypoxic ranges and can be dangerous for some people.

    The implication in the criticism is that Gary Brecka is "only a biologist" and does not have a university education and does not know scientific method however Gary Brecka mentioned in the discussion you show that his undergrad degree (BSc) in Biology and his Masters (MSc) in Human Biology.

    • @PerformanceThroughHealth
      @PerformanceThroughHealth  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      No, the implication was not that he lacks a university degree. My comment addressed how he identifies as a biologist. If he now claims to hold a master's degree, that's a recent development because, according to his website, he has a BS in Human Biology from the National School of Chiropractors. My primary concern is about how he utilizes scientific language as a guise. This can be misleading, as effectively critiquing his work often requires knowledge typically gained at the master's level, which many in his audience may not possess.
