Simple Breath Hold Test to Assess Air Hunger Sensitivity | BOLT Test | Control Pause
Learn about a simple breath hold test, also known as the BOLT score or control pause, to assess sensitivity to air hunger, the sensation from increased CO2, or a conditioned fear response. The test involves relaxed breathing, followed by holding the breath after a natural exhale and stopping when there's a clear urge to breathe. A score of less than 25 indicates heightened sensitivity, which can affect breathing during stress or exercise.

    You say that sleep apnea is more severe but that depends on what metric you are looking at. Yes sleep apnea comes with the oxygen desats which are detrimental to the brain and heart. However UARS is often linked with a higher number of arousals meaning even lower sleep quality than the average sleep apnea sufferer.

    Thanks for daring to debunk someone at the height of his popularity. Gary tells an interesting story, shares alot of free stuff and his thinking is certainly food for thought. But my alert alarm gets triggered when I start thinking I must get that once in a lifetime genetic test for 600 dollars, followed by the 10x supplements, and maybe get on the bandwagon and join the 10x affiliate program. Instead of the genetic test I can make an educated stab at "what if?" and defuse potential dangers by cleaning up my diet. All the information sounds like it makes alot of sense, until the "pay here" sign appears. Gary has also reviewed his thinking and standpoints on different topics, including keto and fasting, which makes me think, how long before he changes his mind on the genetic test and comes up with the advice "oh no, you need to take the test again?". I am still open to his teachings, but also very wary about what is being offered.

      Thank you. To be honest, I hesitated to debunk Brecka for a few months due to pushback and the fear of abuse I would receive on here. However, after speaking to a few people about it, they said that if I truly believe he's sharing potentially harmful disinformation, then it's a duty to correct it. I did undergo a genetic test (from a different company) and found that all the things it mentioned, similar to what Gary talks about, were absolutely fine. So, I do believe that if people simply focus on eating well, exercising regularly, managing stress, and getting enough sleep, there's no need for supplements. I view Biohacking as an industry that preys on those with health anxiety, and Brecka is currently the face of that. Some of the sound advice is as generic as what most popular health influencers discuss, but the ones he promotes the most (often with poor science) are the ones he has products to sell. He's a bit of a snake oil businessman who peddles fool's gold that sounds like science.

Most of the good info he shares is common knowledge apart from the genetic stuff but that's not an area I can critique.

    Are you familiar with Dr. Gerald Pollack's work on the 4th phase of water or Dr. Tom Cowan's work on the heart, where he explains why the heart is not a pump and how the blood moves? This is important to understand what he means here. Quinton-Plasma

    • @MarmaladeINFP
      @MarmaladeINFP หลายเดือนก่อน

      On a related note, I saw a mocking video presumably debunking structured water as pseudo-scientific woo. This is bizarre since structured water has been scientifically studied. Sure, there is much disagreement over the significance, role, and affect of structured water. But anyone dismissing it as unreal is themselves leaving the realm of scientific evidence. It would be nice to get to the point where we could all acknowledge some basic facts of science. Then from there scientific debate could be possible. The whole heart as pump or not is exactly the kind of scientific debate we need to have. The problem is until the scientific research in this area is better known it can't go anywhere. It will take time. We are in the middle of a paradigm change.

    • @patschifig5
      @patschifig5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MarmaladeINFP Yes, it is to be hoped that the paradigm shift will come - finally. I thought about it back in 2008 after reading Intelligent Cells by Bruce Lipton... What science has lost is the unprejudiced curiosity and the courage to go off the beaten track. Only if you really examine, feel and perceive what is with all your senses can you discover something new. It is absolutely fascinating when you bring together the research and observations of Pollack, Schauberger and Cowan etc. in one big puzzle. Also Lipton, McTaggart, Campbell etc. Tip: Veda Austin, water researcher from New Zealand

    If I understand this correctly in the context of work (not exercise), if a company could measure the respiration rate of an individual worker in a state of rest or relaxation and then continuously monitor it throughout a period in which stress is increasing / at a maximum, we could use that data to calculate when they are reaching burnout (decreasing performance) and intervene to bring them back to a point at which their performance is optimised ?

    • @PerformanceThroughHealth
      @PerformanceThroughHealth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! Or prevent them from going into burnout by monitoring and when RR increase past 15-16 to intervene. That's exactly how I work with people

    The implication in the criticism is that Gary Brecka is "only a biologist" and does not have a university education and does not know scientific method however Gary Brecka mentioned in the discussion you show that his undergrad degree (BSc) in Biology and his Masters (MSc) in Human Biology.

    • @PerformanceThroughHealth
      @PerformanceThroughHealth 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, the implication was not that he lacks a university degree. My comment addressed how he identifies as a biologist. If he now claims to hold a master's degree, that's a recent development because, according to his website, he has a BS in Human Biology from the National School of Chiropractors. My primary concern is about how he utilizes scientific language as a guise. This can be misleading, as effectively critiquing his work often requires knowledge typically gained at the master's level, which many in his audience may not possess. He makes more than 10 fallacies in this one section let alone the rest of the conversation.
