@shot shot I beg to differ. The effects of downforce/aerodynamics can begin to present themselves at speeds as low as 40 mph. By 60, they are ever present. In a 440 hp Miata, the rules of the road are unlikely to be followed. It is very possible and likely that the owner will exceed 100 mph on multiple occasions. Perhaps he will even take high speed corners at 100+. Proper aero will not only make this car safer, but much faster through high speed turns and much more fun to drive.
Literally built by someone who was like "I'm gonna use the whole speedometer".

My 2016 stock German spec Miata ND uses the whole speedo already ... And I have a 1988 RX 7 FC Turbo what goes k of km/ h easily. Can proof, have no photo but an eyewitness . Legal in Germany - no speed limit.

Looks like a killer setup. The sensitive throttle can probably be fixed with boost-by-tps in the tune, I have nearly identical setup, between the oversized throttle body and EFR turbo the boost comes in way to high at very low throttle, boost-by-tps made it so much more manageable and enjoyable

Ya im also using boost-by-tps. Im only making 350ish but its super helpful. Car also wanted to be in boost when cruising down the highway without it. Car has been 12.1 at 118 on 4 year old 245 rs4s

This Miata is fast enough to warrant aero. If it were me I’d add a functional front splitter and rear wing to keep it from taking flight 😳😅. I think aero looks like balls but this car warrants it! It must feel pretty sketchy above 120 mph or so. It’s so light and the body wasn’t designed with downforce in mind like even a base Corvette or Porsche.
Ian Clancy I had a 1994 black MX5 (Miata) turbo running 280 bhp and that was fast enough!
Doing over 130mph on the UK motorways was sketchy as fuck and you could feel the front end lifting slightly. Mine didn’t have an under tray though which I don’t think helped!

Had a (stock except for some cheap coilovers) 1.9l NB that given enough space on the Autobahn also reached 120 to 130 mph. Felt like I was using two lanes... can't imagine how it must feel if there is still power left to accelerate...

@@bluebakuredkoi You're right. My stock ND2 makes 181 hp and combined with its close-ratio 6-speed demands to be driven faster than the sheep around me are willing to go. I'm trying to slow myself down because though I'm not driving dangerously, I am out of sync with the U.S. driving environment and will eventually be ticketed. (In Italy when ppl see a sports car behind will move over to let him by.)

Even at stock power the original ND transmission was fragile. Many failed and Mazda swapped them for free. But they wouldn't for this car.
Mine had 350whp and the 6 speed lasted 10 years. It was a mk2.5 so had ABS. I’m not so sure I could have used it as a DD without ABS.

Theoretically you have to build that car twice, one time to get it destroyed and have all the crash tests break tests etc done and verified that everything is okay. Or someone else has to have done that exact same thing in Germany before.

440 hp in a ~2,200 lb Miata is indeed insane. But it’s power delivery is linear with no boost surge in the midrange to send you into a tree. The tires hook up great too.

I drove a boosted NA that had around 340HP, I'd say that was just right. Nine inch wheels and R888's meant that no matter what tomfoolery you and the throttle got in to, it wasn't gonna spin. She would break loose but keep it together, such a good time!

This reminds me of how fast my 2016 r6 is. I can rip to 67mph in first gear within seconds from a dig. Not hating but just blazed and realizing just how fast motorcycles are haha

EDIT: Jokes aside, the 1st-gen Miata always brings me good memories of my money-maker on Gran Turismo 3...it was a white example just like this. ECU remap + stage 1 turbo kit + sport exhaust and I already had 260 hp, over double the stock figures, lol! It was the cheapest high-power increase I knew back then. Only struggled with long straights because of the stock short-ratio gearbox; back then I didn't know how to tune the ratios in the racing gearbox, so I always used the stock unit.

Stock rear end. Boost limited down low. Torque limited to just over 300 so it doesn't grenade. It's on borrowed time. Oh it's my car. Lol

@@TNTHammer a NB 6 speed is usually around $600 USD. A torsen rear end is also around $600. If you need axles (going from 1.6 to 1.8) expect another $2-300

This Miata must slay so many unsuspecting victims. If I saw this Miata on the road I would’ve guessed it had 160 hp tops (most Miata’s aren’t turbocharged; ~130hp stock). Now I know not to mess with a white NA Miata when in MA 😅

No you don't. Tune it to a naturally aspirated 210 hp and installed a top-line Ohlins coil-over kit, wider 16" wheels and gumball tires, and you will have a killer sports car that will not kill YOU.

Building a 210hp naturally aspirated miata engine is just as expensive if not more than building a 400hp turbo miata.

1st gear should still be the same if it is out of a nb like said, the na and nb have pretty much the same chassis, which is why you can swap the trans and rear end with no issues, it just bolts right in

@@fatninja987 he was saying that the 1st gear is useless because when you would floor it in 1 and it gets boost you are redlining in 1 second. No grip and when you finally get it in 2 you just wasted more time than if you just made boost in 2nd with that amount of power.

I think under 7k is possible (including buying the car). If you can install 90% of the parts yourself.
@@rv9990 I don't see under 7k even when doing your own work. Just too many things to sort out(suspension upgrades, brakes, stronger transmission, used forced induction kits)and maintenance items to purchase.
@@alansmilealot Around 7k is very plausible for this build, the trans and rear end are stock, and miata motors are not expensive to build compared to other engines, Ive got a part list on my phone for turboing my stock motor and its barley at 3k
@@TankPlayz As someone who has built nearly this exact setup, you will easily drop 10k. I can guarantee you can't do this build for 7 even with your own work and used parts. You would have to cut quite a few corners and things would break. Once you go built motor, there's a lot of associated costs outside of a stock motor build. I boosted my stock block to 250hp as well 2 years back for just over 3k, so I'm quite familiar with all the costs

What size tyres is he running? Also if you are worried about becoming unsettled over bumps it's more a result of poor suspension tuning rather than the power. We had a 420whp MX5 with properly sorted suspension and it used to just sail over bumps. A lot of people think stiff = fast and that isn't the case, the car must first be compliant to the road surface.

Why? It works fine, and the airbag is much safer. If you can fit in the car there is no need to change the steering wheel.
