For others that are adding a hood make sure you adjust your hood latch up before closing your hood so you don't crack it. Or if your using hood pins as recommend just take out the OEM hood latch
The hood scoop on the CTR doesn't actually push air into the fenders. This has been assumed at first glance and then repeated continuously. The silver duct is a drip tray, and it channels water from the rear scoop seam toward the shock towers where it pools. The air actually vents just in front of that tray. The deflector behind the washer nozzle tube directs it out of three fairly small holes down over the back of the engine where it's intended purpose is to help relieve positive pressure at high speeds and also marginally encourage airflow through the engine bay. It's a very mild design, and I think there are several more ways to make that scoop more effective and efficient if someone really looked into it (or replaced it altogether with a louvre design to extract heat). I've even heard that the yield from the design was so small the designers were going to eliminate it altogether but at that point, dies and so on had already been fielded for the now signature hood scoop.
Carbon fiber hood with latches and side vents looked awesome on your Type R! They are pretty expensive to buy it but you got a lucky to get a good deal!
EPR quality for being cheap Chinese carbon fiber is actually quite good. Many of my interior pieces in my R35 are EPR and look and fit perfectly. You would never know. Why pay more for something nobody is ever going to tell the difference. Also you can use silly putty under the hood where the pins would go. It makes a perfect dimple of where you need to drill. I've used this technique successfully in the past.
My favourite FK8 TH-camr. Your mods are great, and your videos are amazing, clear and professional! Thank you 😎 Keep it up.🙌🏼 PS : +1 vote GTR for your next car. 😉
Hey Jon, just an fyi if you didnt know or to put here for others to see, When you get a hood or anything really from a high rep company like Seibon that price tag is more than people usually think about. That includes things that you wouldnt think of like fit and finish as in the warp of the piece, extra holes for certain things like the washer tube clips you mentioned, thickness in materials and can also be that they may use say 4 coats of resin on top of the carbon vs say 2 coats that another brand uses. And a question, the 2 1/2 lower hole you drilled, was that big enough to use a socket around that nut on the latches?
19:54 haha....same on my double carbon. I did a partial wrap to cover it, but it will still be visible. Going to match paint and leave the vents CF. Install took me 4hrs to shim. Nice work!
Are you worried about rain or debris getting underneath that minor gap in the hood? I really really love that hood but that concerns me. And with anyone notice without you pointing it out?
Probably would stick with the GT500 which is 70k new, but a GTR is also a good car as well. Speaking of Nissan, their new Z looks very interesting--I would consider buying that over the GTR.
A Type R, Camaro LE1 and now a GT-R? I could walk into a Honda dealership and buy a Type R yesterday, but I don’t need three sports cars. I hope your channel is paying for them. I do enjoy these CTR vids though. Giving me good tips and advice for my CTR.
@@TORQToolbox Normally, after air goes past the radiator, it rolls over the top of the engine and then down between the engine/ fire wall... then out via the bottom and sides (between the back of the front tires & wheel opening) of the car. During the later stages of the development, It was found that by directing the air to the side and exit thru the fender vents, it improves heat extraction resulting lower coolant temp.
If cf stuffs i only support varis and last choice seibon. But somehow seibon got alot of issues on coating finishes. U can see scuffing and some tiny deep scratches. But the fitment are same as varis.
@TORQ toolbox, the video says the fender vents are made by Seibon, but your link is to APR. I’m on the fence between both companies. Which did you actually get? Thank you
@@TORQToolbox I purchased the APR ones and fitment wasnt the best. Have you even gotten a chance to look at other FK8's to compare the seibon to the APR? Id purchase the Seibon ones if theyre better.
2021 Mach 1 mustang... Look it up... Jet fuel gray exclusive color and orange brembos.. and tons of suspension upgrades... Not many power mods(supposedly upgraded internals).. but then you can throw on a supercharger kit or twin turbos.. Shout me out when you buy it... Your welcome ;)
@@TORQToolbox I've closed my Varis hood 100 times like that and it's solid. I get that the replica is a fraction of the cost but there are very big drawbacks
@@TORQToolbox I just got the same hood. The difference with you closing it in the video is that you basically punched it closed. lol You had a lot of force coming down then made contact then pushed with both fists. If you place the palm of your hand on the hood at the latch (both hands) and gently give some pressure (like you did when demonstrating the driver side warp issue) it won't crack and you can close it a thousand times. Also, I'm finding the exact same gap on the drivers side with the exact same "warping" as you. Very minor but it's there...almost exact. Did you find any solutions to correcting this? With my OCD it drives me crazy. LOL
He pushed down on the hood to close it all the way and the hood bent on the spot he pushed down on and when it snapped back into place the resin covering the carbon fiber cracked
Justintm I’m guessing not to put your full weight on it to close it. Especially applying all the force on one spot. But also idk if it maybe had to do with the quality of the hood.
Lots of terrible moments. You don’t shut your hood down by pushing, you are suppose to drop it. Screw driver on the washer hose area??. Just get the Varis FRP hood. No gaps
The hood should be dropped at a good hight so it will close with no damage do that with the aluminum hood and it bends its just not the way to close it
One of the rare 45 minute videos I will watch all the way through. 👍👍👍
For others that are adding a hood make sure you adjust your hood latch up before closing your hood so you don't crack it. Or if your using hood pins as recommend just take out the OEM hood latch
That's true man....Mine cracked due to the hood flexing when I pushed down on it...moral of the story, just slam it
Thank you for this. Was hesitant to buy a CF due to this.
Could you explain that a little differently? I don’t know what you mean by adjust hood latch up. If I buy a seibon do they require any pins?
How much would you need to adjust the latch?

You could make a video on making a sammich and I would watch, great work!
Haha. Thank ya man
I just want to say thank u for having a mic most of these type R mod vids I can barely hear cause the volume quality is shit but urs is A1
So many people don't understand how important audio is
Glad u do every mod thinking of performance and not just the looks! Great videos!
I appreciate that brother
I'm glad I get you for FK8 and Gun content.
Congratulations Jonathan son on doing an awesome video with your hood and pins!!! DAD
I loved the video. I would love a ride in the civic type r. What a great car.

Totally makes sense, unfortunately they didn't have a hood that extracted heat from above the turbo when I ordered it
19:54 haha....same on my double carbon. I did a partial wrap to cover it, but it will still be visible. Going to match paint and leave the vents CF. Install took me 4hrs to shim. Nice work!
I would definitely prefer to see GT500 content
Cool install video, thanks for all the work to create this video. It helps me on my fk8 mods.
gt500 would so dope! Love the vids man keep it up! I watch all your channels your killin it
Awesome! Thank you so much brother!
Check the rubber stoppers near the headlights. Should be able to drop the height
I checked those and they aren't causing it
Coming from a CTR owner myself I would like to see gt500 content!
Gt 500 for days. Better aftermarket support from low to high end. And more of a common car others can get info from, if it is the 500 a gt or 6cyl
damn, I did not like watching the hood crack. Excited to see the wrap!
yeah me either man
Are you worried about rain or debris getting underneath that minor gap in the hood? I really really love that hood but that concerns me. And with anyone notice without you pointing it out?
Yeah Im the same I'm worried about that and the damage the rain might do or rust Away the turbo? Or causes problems... I wonder if it's worth getting
Thanks for the mention brother! LOVE your videos. Keep it up :)

FK8 OEM hood inlet is to promote heat extraction... not for aero.
Totally agree with ya, for some reason on the wind tunnel test it shows air coming out the fenders from the hood scoop

You do car vids too?! That’s awesome man

clearly amazing video. thanks for all have the great videos for us
Love your vids man super informative and helps me choose my mods for my type r
great video but really a complex installation than what i thought initially. really got 2 think twice now if I want to get a CF hood.
Yeah it was definitely more time consuming than I expected
Plz get a audi s5 b8.5 lol. Even though I'm not a fan of the new civic hatch, I do enjoy watching your vids

Quick Latch!! 🤯🤯 Very clean option!!
You had me until I heard you say the washer measured 1 5000nths of an inch lol. I dont think it could be physically possible to even manufacture lol.
It was most likely a verbal typo
What are your thoughts on reducing hood weight for FWD cars? It seems that you might get less power to the ground..??
Did you manage to fix the fitment issue? One side of my hood sticks up more than the other too :/
Hope everything is OK bro. Haven't seen a video for 3 months
I don’t even think those push locks were even needed unless you plan to be driving crazy speeds ,oem latch was enough
If you plan on modding the car, def go with the GTR. More reliable overall.
Did you adjust you latch in order for your hood to latch on.
Yeah you gotta raise the latch up
@TORQ toolbox, the video says the fender vents are made by Seibon, but your link is to APR. I’m on the fence between both companies. Which did you actually get? Thank you
I accidentally misspoke, I got the APR vents
TORQ Toolbox Thank you and love your videos. You keep it real and I like that! 💯
What did you do with the OEM windshield washer hoses. Looks like they weren’t installed back on with the new hood
Hey the gun guy is a car guy too.
Ever get the hood lined up on the driver side. In the vid you mention it seemed slightly lifted Vs the other side. I have the same issue.
Did you ever get the hood to fit better by putting a weight on it like you mentioned in the video? My hood has the exact same issue.
Carbon just always fits like trash in my opinion man very hard to get to fit correctly
Mine came in cardboard box straight from EPR China, arrived fine. Fitment good, but not perfect
GT500 bro...without a doubt
Next mugen steering wheel, short shifter and shift knob bro. Pls2
Gt500 would be nice, but mods might be difficult to find considering how new it is
Yeah that's true man
What was your general impression of the quality and fitment of the fender vents?
They weren't perfect, but they fit very nicely

you need that HKS super sequential bov
What kind of rims are those ?
They're from Titan7, there's a link in the video description for them
My inner fan boy says GTR but the GT350’s are badass....
How did you manage to brake it so i dont do the same
I pushed it down to latch it instead of just letting it slam
@@TORQToolbox So youre saying letting the hood slam is easier on the nose of the hood than just pushing it down by hand?
Hey would you able to say how much was shipping for your carbon fiber hood ?
Gt500 definitely
How much lighter is the carbon hood compared to stock?
Probably 5 lbs
Thanks, man, nice looking hood
I have same hood and I have a gap near both headlight si was told the prl intake hits the bottom of the hood ? Anyone else’ have this issue?
What, I am subbed to you for gun videos lol. I have a 10th gen Civic turbo
Because you wish you had a Type R instead
@@poolplexer lol little did you know, the next month I purchased a 2020 Accord 2.0T with the 10 speed, and now I'll walk type r's lol

There's a link in the video description with the price
invest in a step bit kit
Do they have to have a pin on them?

Nissan gtr for sure
GTR. But I’m biased
Why the hood pins?
im sure the varis would not have cracked like that :>
