Before you put the silicone on the drilled holes. I would get thin cyanoacrylate super glue put it around the exposed carbon fiber to seal it up. It actually has a chemical bond with carbon. Then hit it with silicone sealer. Just a little insiders tip on carbon fiber, after you have drilled and exposed it. It helps seal it up, so it doesn’t delaminate.
That’s an actual good detail to the CF Hood. Now, what would be the issue if those pins aren’t installed?? Is the stock latch not good enough for the CF hood??
The hood is so light, that at a high rate of speed it can become unlatched as air travels underneath the hood. Am I going to drive 200mph? No. Do I want to risk losing a windshield and carbon hood all at once? Also no.. so this is just for reassurance
They even look cool(idk why😅). When the hood is painted, you probably won't even see them. We have them on a E46 M3 build. Love how the conversion is coming together!
Great install. What type of drill is best for CF? I need to enlarge a 52mm to a 60mm hole and I’m unsure which drill type works best for the thin carbon gauge holder.
After the install, what is the "RTV" that you put around the drilled/cut area on the underside of the hood? You said "....to create a gasket". Is it some kind of glue or liquid sealant to protect the exposed carbon fibres?
RTV is an abbreviation of "Room Temperature Vulcanizing (hardening)." Commonly used in the US as a name for liquid gasket maker. It's usually some form of silicone.
fiberglass and carbon fiber can and usually at some point will break the factory bolt holes out and the hood will fly up ay high way speed and break and smash a bunch of stuff . people install things like this so your not surprised at a hood flying up doing 80mph.
Why, for the love of god, does nobody make a kit for the OEM latch to go through the hood so it can be painted over flush with the hood adn require NO HOOD PINS.

These look great and good call on wearing a mask while drilling the CF!
Great seeing you yesterday Tommy!
Always impressed by your patience and quality of work! Great tutorial.
Clean installation of the hood pins, Johnathan. The 1M conversion is progressing quite nicely.
Great video followed this today as I installed my bonnet and pins. Very helpful and easy to do!
Glad it helped!

Awesome! Thanks for watching

Great install. Only thing I would say is to use lock washers or lock nuts to keep the nuts from back out of the pins due to vibration.
I ended up throwing a dab of loctite on there, seems to be doing the trick 👍
This series has turned out so cool man! Can’t wait to see the color choice
can the latch be painted with the hood or will it be matte black against a gloss black hood? would be cool if you can paint match it too.
Definitely
I hope this build never ends, really enjoying it
Scariest process ever. I went with the same exact latching system. Works great and no issues at all.
I wanna do it by myself but Fak I’m scared 😂🤣
Any updates on this ? I just got a good looking into some type of pins latches without having the big oval latch
i just had a friend use these, definitely makes hood pins actually appealing. not a fan of those gigantic plastic ones haha
Great install Jon - looks amazing!
Those things are sweet! Way less bulky than mine lol
Lol

Thanks for using amapiano
I was shocked to hear it 😂🔥🔥🔥

Best DIY yet.
Love the attention to detail 👍👍
whats the point of having the latches AND the factory latch? isn't the whole point of hood latches to eliminate the factory hood latch?
earned yourself a subscriber tonight
Whats the difference between the 38/and the larger 50 ones
Love the music from 11:00
Super Clean. Love it!

Love the Sponge Bob reference!

Does this hood pins hold good when going over 100 mph?
where to buy these hood pins also will it work on a new edge mustang
Why didn't you just use rtv instead of the foam on the release buttons?
Why so many people suggest the pins for the carbon fiber hood? Thinking to get one and I'd like to know more about it

Mcbruhhhh I wanna be you
I don't think that plastic will hold to the force of air catching under the hood at speed, I wonder if plastic is strong enough?
It holds the force easily. Haven't had a single issue
@@ThicWhips Such a nice hood and car, I am super paranoid, I have a Supra I want to put cf hood on and drill for pins, thanks for the how to
