Amazing to see how close you guys are to being fully recovered as far fish number from the winter storm. That took a long time. Glad the light at the end of the tunnel is finally coming.
I will have to check out her channel. Thanks for letting me know. After a quick peek at her channel, I can see why some would prefer watching her instead of me. Maybe if I showed more leg? Charles
Do you let people visit? I'm moving to Lake Jackson at some point and think it would be interesting to see your facility. My wife would love it as well.
I love Aulonocara stuartgranti! Really nice fish! Question: how do you cope with the really bad heatwaves you get sometimes down there (I'm up in Canada)? I see you put shadecloth on the greenhouses but isn't there some point where even that is not enough to keep the temperatures down?
We vent the greenhouses at the top to allow hot air to escape and run fans 24 hours a day to blow outside air in to force hot air out the tops. The airflow causes a lot of evaporative cooling; in fact, we lose about 1,500 gallons of water daily to evaporation in each greenhouse during the summer. Charles
We sell online to hobbyists and ship UPS overnight. We aren't offering many livebearers right now but will soon. You can see what we offer at: goliadfarms.com/. Charles
We don't do water changes. We lose water to evaporation and to overflow into a wetland (soon to be a fig orchard) during operations (water siphoned from the vats into the floor gutters flows into the sumps where overflow pipes take excess water out of the greenhouses). During the summer (8 months of the year here), evaporative cooling removes quite a bit of water, on hot days as much as 1,500 gallons. Normal operations (4 days of the week) can cause the loss of about 500 gallons daily. Water trickling from our well replenishes the water in the greenhouses. Charles
I've kept some in a 120-aquarium once, so probably. If you introducing the mollies and swords to an established tank, I'd recommend doing the introduction after dark, so your fish don't immediately view them as possible food. Charles
I really enjoy your channel and your beautiful fish. I am curious if you have ever considered getting Neopomacentrus taeniurus which is a fresh water damselfish. It would be great for someone to breed them so I can buy some.
Yes, we do. We use UPS overnight and air cargo (primarily Southwest). You can see what we are currently shipping at goliadfarms.com/. We will be adding more fish as we recovered from the Texas Winter Storm. Charles
Last winter wasn't nearly as bad here, but we are looking to rebuild some infrastructure after hurricane season ends to improve greenhouse insulation. Charles
Its not surprising those fish would hide from someone who isn't feeding them. Certain fish are definitely smarter than others, my ram cichlids and pearl gourami are miles ahead of the others in terms of behaviors linked to intelligence. My gourami in particular not only recognizes me but also whether I am holding something or not, it often wont even bother coming out until I pull out the food. I've also heard that pufferfish, sharks, and rays are rather intelligent animals but I haven't spent enough time with any of them to notice.
I miss seeing your videos. Will you be doing more in the future?

Putting them in the aquarium for us to see is great!
That's about the only way we can show the fish in water. Holding them in hand out of water for videoing doesn't do the fish justice.

It is interesting that fish can distinguish their feeder human among other humans while some people can't tell one fish from another.
Charles
I didnt think about that but its quite odd.
@@Exquailibur Maybe we underestimate fish intelligence.
