Dude why don't you handle them with care,? Pretty much threw them back in the bucket. Geezuz
You don't even have to respond to such comments. It's your business, you can run it how you want and from what i've seen, you produce excellent variety of healthy looking fish. A lot of us also learn from your fish knowledge and enthusiasm.
Thank you. Charles

Thank you for watching. I wonder how well the Portuguese dubbing works with my mangled English dialect. Charles

Hi Chuck - I am surprised at the small size of the overbite on your "Gold" fuelleborni. According to a discussion with Ad Konings - the overbite on Labeotropheus is genetic and then enlarged due to abrasion from feeding on rocky surfaces. Much like developing a callused hands from repeated hard work. However I have seen in aquaria a reduction in the size of the overbite from 2 sources: One - inbreeding, and Two - hybridization with the Red zebra. I have also observed smaller overbites on tank raised fish which don't need to constantly graze but it is still quite prominent.
I wasn't aware of the environmental impact on the overbite. That's interesting. I've been selecting, especially males, for more overbite. This fish has been in the hobby a long time with lack of selection to keep the fish appearing as in the wild. Charles
Love the video - you are correct - the fish was discovered by Friedrich Fülleborn. He was a Dr who specialized in tropical medicine and parasitology. He also has a chameleon - Trioceros fuelleborni, a bird - Macronyx fuelleborni, and a moth - Neocoenyra fulleborni - named after him. Cool legacy.
Thank you for the confirmation and the interesting information. Charles
Really nice fish
It's a very nice, non-aggressive mbuna cichlid. Worthwhile in a community tank. Charles
Thanks for clearing up the single i sounding like an e 😊
Susie says I do that too much! But I can't seem to help myself. Charles
Another pretty cichlid. Thanks for the video.
I just love how you try to educate with every single sentence you say! Sir, i'm a lifelong fan and this is a beautiful fish. ❤

Stinky feet?
Ararggh! Now I have to go watch the video to see the connection with stinky feet. Or you could save me the effort and point it out. Charles
@@goliadfarms7029 wet feet all day every day?
Nice looking fish, How do you keep your mollies nice and healthy some of mine seem to get sunken bellies
We keep mollies in hard, alkaline water (pH above 8). They are fed 50% protein food that we buy in bulk from Cargill. It is also critical, especially with sailfin mollies, to keep ammonia and nitrite at zero. The shortfin mollies tolerate ammonia a bit better. Charles
I've never owned a parrot fish in my life but thank you for the lessons on their genetics.
This is first time I've had them. Charles
That full bucket of dead fish how much value was in it ?
I seem to remember that Susie calculated the tots; loss at wholesale pricing plus breeding stock to be over $500,000. I also don't remember how many tractor-bucket loads we took out. Charles
@goliadfarms7029 Wow a lot of folks might have folded.. Glad to see you are standing strong.. Love the content, keep em coming..

It looked like the caudal fin of the wag color also had long fin expression.
Yes, it did. I forgot to mention that. It'll be interesting to see if that shows up in wag offspring. Charles
Hi Charles, I know you are the expert, but I believe I have some insight on this, first of all these fish don’t have any parrot blood in them in the trade they were called polar blue parrots, but they just have a short body mutation for 1 , the second mutation is the one that makes her face scrunched up and looks like it does. Also, from what I found out from reading these are they’re actually not convicts that these mutations originated in, but Hur and red points. The fish that you were braiding have been mixed, which is why you’re getting the darker coloration of convicts, the lighter coloration or the more, aqua color that you’re calling is the coloration of the Honduran red points, I got the same colors and I also got the ones that were half dark and half light, like the ones that you are calling wag. I have a whole Lotta pictures and input on this if you are interested, unfortunately, I had several pairs of the different variations that I got that were killed in the freeze we had last year.
Thank you for the information. Please send photos to my email: charles@goliadfarms.com. Charles
I ended up with a pollar blue one through a trade. Didn't think I would like him, but he's won me over. Very cute entertaining fish. Interesting to learn more about the genetics.
I'm learning about their genetics as I go. It should be interesting to see how the crosses turn out. Charles
Pink wag would be really cool.
We'll see how heritable Wag is. It would be fun to transfer it to other colors. Charles
Once again your videos are amazing. Thanks again for creating them. We all learn so much.
Thank you for watching. I enjoy giving a bit back to my hobby. Charles
Did you come up with the naming convention for the fish types and colors? I've always heard of them called, Polar blue's for the black parrots and Platinum's for the pinks! Didn't realize there where so many more variations in-between! Also, I have both the black and pink parrots, with one good mixed pair that lays often, but I've noticed they mainly only have the polar blues. I got lucky only once with the platinum's popping up on one cycle of eggs... The genetic favorability is defiantly favoring the polar blues...
Yes, I did except for the Sapphires. They came to us with that name. I wasn't aware of any naming conventions when I named Pink and Aqua. Guess I should have done some research first. Charles
Goliad is doing it right, you guys have snakes breading there, fish breading at you feet...amazing
ps where did you get those white buckets?
The fish and snakes do all the work. We just try to stay out of their way while they do it. Charles
Thanks for the video. Very interesting. Can’t wait find out more.
I'm eager to see how the Pink/Aqua cross goes and how the Bronzes develop. Charles
I like them!
They are growing on me (no pun intended). They are presenting some interesting genetics experiments. Charles
Interesting problem. This will be fun to follow.
Yes, it is. I'm looking forward to seeing the results. Charles
Great video, thank you! It is going to be interesting to see what those Pink x Aqua test breedings produce. Normal expectation would be normal blue double hets... but since they are from the same founding stock, there's likely to be a pink het aqua, or aqua het pink in the mix, giving you some visuals in the test cross, of one, both, or maybe even the combined phenotype of Pink + Aqua in one fish.
Yes. I'm eager to see what the relationship is between Pink and Aqua. That's complicated by the possibility one or both of the breeders could be heterozygous. Charles
Awesome. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching. I'm eager to see how the Bronzes turn out. Charles
I don't love parrot fish, but I love the genetics lesson.
Same here, but I'm so glad his customer gave him some to breed. Hybrid genetics in particular are incredibly fascinating, and Charles has the skill and knowledge to do the right breedings to definitively answer some questions and prove methods of inheritance.
I think also the same, I like the shape of wildtype convicts more and the color mutations of them..
Thanks interesting information. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching. Genetics can be fascinating. Charles
Thank you for the lesson. Truly a pleasure to learn genetics from you Charles!

Any update on this line ?
We'll process this strain next in mid-January. We'll try to do an update then. Charles
Very nice!!
Thank you. Wait until the strain is restored. Charles
Outstanding Beauty!! 😅👍🏻👍🏻

Poaching Mollies. I love your stories about gorilla fish keeping 😂. Very interesting about the leaf litter causing infertility and in my opinion completely plausible. Also wild to hear that about the mesquite leaves! Could the ground water be contaminated with jettisoned cartel product?… I appreciate your videos. God speed
I'm sure the statute of limitations has expired on that expedition. I'm thinking of setting up some leaf tests with some fish next summer when it's warm enough to keep fish outside off system. Charles
I only kept Mollies once, many years ago. These are gorgeous! I am a fan of the Wag varieties 😊
I also like the wag color pattern especially on a gold bodied fish. Charles
RIP Fred the Raccoon.
@cnjhendricks There are plenty of Fred-Raccoons around here. Charles
I wish you all the luck because those things were gorgeous.
Thank you. With time we will restore the strain. Charles
Have you put out a request of your customers if someone has the strain can they give you some back? Of course you would pay for them but you would get them back.
I have not. I'll have Susie check previous retail sales to see if anyone has them. Most of our sales are wholesale to shops so we don't know who got the fish. Charles
Hi Charles. Do you ever buy new breeder fish, to put into a existing breeder coloni?
We very rarely buy new breeders since quarantine is complicated in recirculating systems like our greenhouses. We quarantine for a long, long time (and test with some of our fish) in outside vats. That means we can only get new stock in the spring and fall when outside temperatures are neither too hot nor too cold. Charles
@ thx for the answer. That makes good sense.
@@KentAJDK I'm here to answer questions. Charles
The fish are methed up. 😂😂😂😂😵💫 🐟
Mollies can get a bit high. Charles
Charles this was very interesting. Any idea why they are called “wag”? What makes them a “wag”? What is the difference between sail fin, high fin and variatus? I absolutely love platys and really enjoy your videos and wealth of knowledge that you freely share! Thank you!
I think "wag" comes from the black caudal (tailfin) wagging as the fish swims. Sailfin and Hifin in swords and platies is a dominant gene (properly allele). The characteristic was first found by Ms. Simpson in swordtails and was transferred to platies via hybridization. Molly sailfins are entirely different, requiring multiple genes. I'll cover this in a future molly video. Charles
I love your Science moments. your just the best sir. 👍
Thank you. I'm a science geek so there'll be more of that in future videos. Charles

Mollie's were a lot of we older peoples first fish. I love mollie's. Thanks for the up date !
Thank you for watching our mollies. I really like mollies and we'll be doing more videos of them and the progress toward restoring our strains. Charles
I wonder if there may have been some differences in pH between the two houses that caused the breeding issues. Assuming the light and temps were the same, that's about the only other major difference I can think may cause issues. Cheers from North Florida!
The two greenhouses have a common well source. Also, I check water parameters fairly frequently and pH and hardness are essentially the same. But who knows what happened in the aftermath of the Texas Winter Storm. Charles
Thanks for the video. I really admire your persistence. I think it would be really easy to give up on that strain of mollies after you lost the original breeders.
Susie (wife and business partner) says I'm bull headed stubborn. I like persistent better. Charles
