  • 2018 Honda CR-V EX-L with Continental TrueContact tires in 6 inches of freshly fallen snow in Ohio.
After research and a lot of thought, we decided to go with Continental TrueContact tires to achieve a balance between summer and wintertime performance. The ride comfort, sound levels and snow capabilities have been superb in nice weather, rainy conditions and in snow as well, including on our 2,000 ft sometimes snow-covered and occasionally somewhat icy limestone driveway with a moderate grade.
Definitely a combination of vehicle and tires worth considering, particularly for those that live off the beaten path.

I have the 2021 Honda CR-V AWD. They are great vehicles, comfy, reliable, durable, great handling, built solid and excellent in any type of weather. This video shows the truth of the CR-V AWD.

I drove to work at 5:20am for the first time in the snow. I work a hour away and I had no issues on the road/highway when it was snowing like crazy

I've grown to like the later 4th gen style and the 3rd gen has grown on me but 100% the crv for me is that 1st generation.
Man I love that body style and little car. Tried with 2 of em only to lose 7k in the process. So I'm looking at a 2015 for a daily driver but someday I'll get that 1st gen for off road lol.

I used to have a 2004 and it was great in the snow. We went over a mountain pass in heavy snow with all seasons and drove right on past everyone else stopping to chain up. I don't know about the other generations, but the 2nd gen (and 1st from what I've seen) had a great AWD.

@@Epirus2245 If I turn TC off I can spin my 2014 around in a snowy parking lot like a rwd/4x4 vehicle. So I know that the rear wheels are doing plenty of work. Pretty good AWD system, never gotten stuck in Michigan winter. Some people claim the 4th gen AWD is useless and is basically a front wheel drive, I have to laugh because I can't remember the last time I was able to kick out the rear on my front wheel drive Ford Taurus, hehe. Only thing this gen can't do is severe hill climbs like the subaru forester

The Continental 'True Contract' is rated as an all season tire. I did a lot of research and debating due to wanting a tire that would provide a smooth, comfortable, safe and quiet ride in pleasant and wet weather - and additionally, with our 2,000 ft driveway that includes a moderate grade, a major concern was that we wanted tires that would provide good wintertime snow performance. The CRV and True Contract tires have exceeded our expectations and we are 100% satisfied.
While we debated about tires with a more aggressive tread, the potential noise factor was a concern, and an issue with pure winter tires can be the material composition which can limit tread life (as well as the hassle of seasonally changing tires). The True Contract has proven to provide excellent traction and is in the upper tier of tread life ratings.
The vehicle is driven daily and with the severity of the 2020-2021 winter season, the vehicle / tire combination received a legitimate real-world test by two different family drivers.

The CRV has been great and we have over 89,000 miles on it with no problems. We follow the recommended maintenance schedule, and the only other thing we did was install a new set of tires when the original set became worn. The Continental True Contact tires have been great with outstanding winter, summer and wet weather performance and a quiet ride. When the time eventually comes, we will likely be looking at another CRV.
