    Angela, you're Sooo real and honest. I love the way you just go with the flow....and quilt your little heart out. Your hubby must know..."Happy wife, happy life", right?! Your kids are soo normal...just like they should be. They'll be fine. No worries, mate!

    Angela - You are such a pleasure to watch. I love your personality! So down to earth and willing to discuss your mistakes and absolutely minimize your talents and abilities. I love your style! Super talented! thank you for all your videos and for helping us who are just learning or for those of us who are perfectionists to the point of being handicapped. Good for you! You make me feel relaxed and able.

    Ok, you are the smartest person (quilter) on earth. I've probably watched 80 of your videos and I've loved every single one of them. I've made 4 quilts in my entire life, 30 years ago, but never knew anything about how to do that, and they certainly weren't "quilted". As an ear trained musician I found it easy to create any design I could imagine, but now, I'm ready to make some quilts with actual patterns, and then "quilt" them. I've been learning so much from you and it actually almost brings me to tears sometimes just watching you make these fabulous, beautiful pieces of art. Quilts are so important and I've always secretly dreamed of doing nothing but sewing and quilting. I'm just getting started as a great grandmother of 61. Still teaching music and loving it, and now I'm going to go finish cutting some fabric before I go to work playing music. I'm going to start putting my granddaughters quilt together tonight! I'm so excited cuz I feel like I can DO this, and maybe even machine quilt it too! You are such an inspiration Angela, thanks for all you do and share!

    How about a little blog about how you started quilting and getting over the fear of cutting fabric, sewing and quilting mistakes. Just basically how you did it. What kept you going. You are an inspiration. Love the midnight quilting show. Can't wait for the next one. I'm almost 70, work full time and love every minute I can sit in front of my machine. Am yet to quilt my first quilt. Always send them out to the longarmer (so). But... with you on you tube beside me I'm going to try it. Thanks for your inspiration.

      Angela Walters about how long does it take you to quilt a quilt free motion? I purchased a Tin Lizzie and am getting back into quilting. I sold my Handi Quilter and regret it but after watching your tutorials im excited again. Im curious which one of your dvds do you recommend buying for me to get started again? I was on your site last night and saw them. Thanks

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it totally depends on the quilt and the design that you use. But if I had to guess, I'd say 5 hours or so on a longarm. I think this DVD would be best since you have some FMQ experience. quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/books/products/dvd-fill-it-up-machine-quilting-with-angela-walters

    I love to watch you quilt!! Could you address how to load and baste a quilt so it stays flat and doesn't pucker or bunch as you quilt? Am I the only one who has this problem?! It can look beautiful on the frame but sometimes (thankfully not EVERY time) when it comes off it looks as if there's too much fabric between the quilted lines even tho it seemed flat at the time I did it. I quilt on an Avante. (Love it), faithfully use the clamps and
    float the top. Any suggestions? You are such an encourager! Thank you for sharing your talent!

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will definitely do that! (I am working on an episode that right now). One that helps is to make sure that the backing isn't too tight. You want it taunt but not so tight that it springs back when off the frame.

  • @paulah5645
    @paulah5645 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've just discovered your tutorials and LOVE them! I'm in a dilemma, caused by my need to make 'different' quilts! I just completed 2 king size bed tops, and sandwiched them together. I figured if I'm spending all that time making such a huge quilt, I'm going to get double the use. Now, I can't figure out how to quilt it! Each side is a modern geometric design, mostly squares and rectangles, made without typical blocks or borders. My initial thought was to use a very simple geometric quilting design all over, or all curved quilting to offset all the straight lines. Now I'm wondering if that's too boring, having the same design all over? I can't echo, or enhance one side, without it looking out of place on the other? Something I might have thought of when I decided on a reversible bed quilt! Any suggestions would be most helpful! Thank you so much for all your sharing! You're very entertaining and motivating!

    Incredible! You make that look so easy!!! Is there a way to find out your schedule of where you travel and teach? I’m a beginning quilter(at 46🤪) and would love to take a class with you! Do you ever come to South Carolina?

    When you change the thread color on the top, do you also change the color on the back, or just use one color for the whole back?

    I really enjoy your videos. I am wondering what setting you use on your long arm to start and stop. I am still learning my machine... you look so effortless quilting... ps... do you ever do classes near Kentucky/Tennessee?

      I quilt in the manual setting, which means I don't use the stitch regulator. the speed I use depends on the design that I am quilting. Hope that helps!

    Hi I love your videos and have watched them all. I have a quick question. Is there a difference between a quilting ruler and a ruler used for cutting? If so which one should I get? Thank you. Keep those wonderful videos coming.

      If quilting with a rulee, it needs to be at least a 1/4" thick. A rotary cutting ruler isn't good to quilt with because it could slide under the needle. here's a link to the ones I sell online (but any that are a 1/4" will work) quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/machine-quilting-supplies/ruler

    I really struggle with how to get from block to block without cutting my thread. I do try to leave myself an out but it’s difficult to do.

      I used the Handi Quilter straight edge ruler. Here's a link to more information about it, hope it helps quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/handi-quilter-accessories/products/hq-straight-edge-ruler-3-x-12

    What type of quilting would you say is easiest on the hands (aside from QAYG and walking foot). I have wrist and shoulder problems but I've been sewing more than half my life so far lol

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, longarm quilting would be the easiest (besides the ways that you mentioned). If the machine is set up at the right height, it should hurt your wrist or your shoulders. But if you don't have the room or budget for a longarm, then QAYG would be the best for you. Hope that helps!!

      Angela Walters that's actually the best answer I could have hoped for :)
      I currently only have the space for a loft bed as my work space with a fold away 6x3ft table for cutting that has to go away as soon as I'm not sewing.
      I want to work up to a long arm, and build a studio around one when I am no longer renting.

    How do you do all the free motion and not make mistakes, I tried to do some swirls and it was a disaster, I practiced before I would try it on a quilt, good thing I did because my quilt would be in the garbage.

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the secret is to use a matching thread, that way you can't see any mistakes. 🤣 I promise that it gets easier with a little practice!

    What machine were you using to quilt with Angela? It seems very quiet, or did you adjust the video volume? Love the quilting, by the way. But the kids take the cake...or icecream...

      I use a Handi Quilter Avante, but I did turn the volume down so that you could heat what I was saying.

    I noticed the background is quilted with black thread. Do you quilt all the blocks first and go back and quilt the background . or do you change thread and finish each area ?

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I quilted all the blocks in a row and then filled in the background. it was a pain, but it was necessary to make the quilt look good!

    It looks like you used different color threads to match each block. When you do that, what color do you use in the bobbin? The quilting is GORGEOUS and you make it look sooooo easy!

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much!!! I use the same color in the bobbin as I do in the top. That prevents the different color from poking up through the top.

    This may be a dumb question, but can you use rulers on a domestic machine? Or is it something you can only use on a long-arm?

  • @karenganote562
    @karenganote562 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your ruler looks thicker than the standard long arm ruler-what brand is it found under? (I love your tutorials-I ALWAYS learn something new!)

    • @AngelaWaltersfmq
      @AngelaWaltersfmq  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the same thickness as a regular machine quilting ruler....it could be the angle of the camera making it look bigger. Here's a link to the exact ruler I am using. Thanks for watching!! quilting-is-my-therapy.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/hq-straight-edge-ruler-3-x-12
