Doing stuff my yourself is great! Feels so good to get out there!! Mint van - we just bought a van 🚐 once you get the shower and poop situation sorted then its perfect!! Sending love from Ireland 🇮🇪
You're right when expressing, " You can be alone without being lonely, and you can be lonely , being around a lot of people" If you lead your life with a purpose or have a goal of life, then you will be always busy with realising what you really want to do with your life. Oppositely, living without any goal of life is the same as living a meaningless and boring life even when there are a lot of people in your life
That's very cool Katie! Newborough beach is brilliant! And I love your van. Big adventure for me tomorrow as I'm off to the Peak District in my campervan to cycle for a few days. And I'm on my own, but the big thing is that my wife, Lynn, died just 5 weeks ago. We rode a tandem together for 27/28 years and were together for 48 years, so doing something on my own is a bit scary at the moment! And truthfully, the main reason I'm going is that we booked it a few months ago and I don't want to let Lynn down by cancelling it, even if it might be difficult.
I don’t believe in an afterlife Pete but your wife would not have wanted you to stop doing things that you both shared. Enjoy your time away, the Peak District is a great place to spend time, it will be emotional for you at times but you will carry your wife with you where ever your travels take you.
Wow Pete, that must be quite hard as well as scary. I hope it all goes well and Lynn and your memories carry you along the way with joy overcoming the darker moments.
Doing stuff my yourself is great! Feels so good to get out there!! Mint van - we just bought a van 🚐 once you get the shower and poop situation sorted then its perfect!! Sending love from Ireland 🇮🇪
I found when we first started camping, we always forgot something. Two things helped. I started buying camping versions of the things I needed so I could leave them all together and didn't have to run around the house gathering stuff. The second thing was to build a camping checklist on my phone. Add to it every time you realize you forgot something, and use it when you pack. Simple ideas but it really helped.
Ah Katie, you have to go back to Newborough beach and walk to Llanddwyn Island. Check the tide times though. It’s a beautiful island just along the beach there and the sunsets are stunning.! 👍
I just did tor de mon sportive in angelsey great roads minimal traffic I recommend it. Looovvee the van 😻 I do things alone otherwise you would just be waiting that way u can get it done
So true. If you wait for company, you will never get to go places. It's rare that I'm alone anyway on my bikes especially on the MC. (motorcycle) people want to check you out or offer help. It's cool.
Your first can scratch on your first van adventure, that mark will be special to years to come, even stories about it.lol. I agree with what you said, get to love yourself, be brave, believe in yourself and your capabilities and life will unfold wonders to you. In your last video you challenged us to do something new, so I came up with a new bike route that combined a lot of elements. I did not survey it, see how long it was, or elevation climb, I just did it and I love this route. 60 miles, 3000 feet of climb and lots of beauty and history.
I got my van maybe 6 years ago and ended up just camping in it without doing it up for ages. But once I got brave enough to drill holes in it and actually converted it myself (somewhat basic, it's the first thing I've ever built - it's more hippy than professional) it's so great! Solo adventures to the lakes, sneaky stealth camping in pub car parks, amazing spots in the dales. It ends up as a never ending project though as the more time you spend in it the more you find things to modify and improve. Definitely consider having a diesel heater fitted if you want to use it in winter - they're are expensive but OMG it makes life so much nicer when the weather changes!
I like my own company most of the time as long as I can check in with others now and then I don't feel alone. A stealth camper van and a bike looks like a great combo.
I'm in a Fiat Doblo LWB with my bike quite a lot with work. I think it's the perfect size where it's long enough for a good nice sleep and a bike fits in just nicely to the side. I would recommend the stereotypical slide out bed as I put in a full size single and the amount of room was just too tight with the bike in there. Good luck with the build! Mines still just a bed in the back with some basic insulation and I've been in the back for about 2 years 4 days a week. I trialed one night with just a bed to get a feel for it and just never did all the camper conversion stuff as I was just happy to be there lol.
highly recommend a camping cot bed . Off the floor and so much more comfy than any camping mattress imo. later in the autumn I will b packing a duvet and blankets for those chillier nights. Ya can do owt wenyav got a van and bike. heres to you having a shed load of happy vanping adventures
I've been thinking about a second vehicle, I think I want a van too. I don't like racks and you also get added security plus shelter if too far from home. Nothing better than a road trip with your bike in the back just in case... Whoa, what a life.
I think a shared experience is better than a solo one, but if you don’t have friends who are going to get as excited about your hobbies then best to do them alone rather than have to worry about how much the other person is enjoying themselves. I’m looking forward to the videos about doing the van up, I’d imagine you’ll have loads of fun designing it and putting it all together!

Went up Snowdon with my sister a fortnight ago and the daughter and I had a morning at Newborough before coming home. I had a walk out to the lighthouse for the virtual geocache because I couldn’t be that close and not do it.
Your videos are making me miss riding so much!! I've broken my wrist falling off the bike and been stuck in a cast for 5 weeks now. Can't wait to go on my solo adventures again. I also really want a van to go roadtripping around the country with my best friend. Switzerland has so much sightseeing to offer, it would be awesome. Keep the videos coming, I love seeing your #vanlife!
fun video and great advice on being alone and loneliness! you always have great perspective! thanks for sharing and looking forward to more van adventures!
Was that Newborough beach you visited ? It's got great sand. As kids we always went on our hols there. It's great especially if your uncle owned the caravan park there
Anglesey, North Wales is glorious and a great location Katie. The Tour de Mon sportive is on 22 August and is 107 miles around the island, not for the faint hearted.👍

Hahaha....your comments at the end were a riot! Have a great trip. I'm heading to the Adirondack`s in New York to ride this coming weekend. Should be beautiful scenery.
Forgot tea bags and lighter, but never mind - I'm in my van. Priceless. On a more serious note, I swear that there are worse things than being alone. Your own company is often the best at times.
Great video Katie, really glad you shared it, hope your teabags you forgot were yorkshire tea, My favourite cuppa😋 Great having your own company, you don't have to chuffing please everyone else 😂 looking forward to seeing your next video 😊
Very inspiring and very wise. Oh and a lot of fun too. Mind you, you are not a gentle wallflower, so wouldn’t imagine being on your own worries you. It might worry others e.g. “She better not park next to me. Go on, bugger off. What you looking at?” Scary!
Really enjoyed this Katy with the modification you should have a bed that’s raised and your bike underneath your bed iv seen loads of stuff on Instagram and other places online and also some modified vans with bikes hv like a thing that slides out too for bike so pretty Kool ey ?
You are living the dream, and it is just want I want to do in the USA. Mountains east. Mountains west. Flats (but not that flat) in between. And your perspective is uplifting! Finally, your thinking about being with others or not being with others is also my thinking.
Hey Katie ..I think its awesome what your doing and im in the same boat and like you im alone but definately dont feel lonely! i have plenty of friends and others around me if i need them, but i love being independant and able to just get up and go whenever i wish. Loved the vid keep it up..just boaght a Carbon road bike (Its been a along time since ive ridden) need to get fitter again so out with a mate, and will soon be on Zwift :)
I must admit I can testify to being on my own and what that's like. For 6 years prior to meeting my wife, I lived on my own and yes sometimes it was lonely but equally when I was out with a group of friends from work around the same time frame I felt the same ie lonely. I do wish I had travelled more when I was on my own but the thought of doing it on my own was the single most off putting thought in my head plus the extra cost of single occupancy rates in the places I'd looked at all because you as a single person and were staying in a place normally occupied by 2 or more people which I've never agreed with was very annoying. In many ways I should have banished those thoughts and went because like yourself one of my former bosses in work used to regularly take off on his own on his holidays all the time as he was on his own and I always thought fair play to you for having the courage for so doing. Having said all that I finally did a route from where I live to the deep countryside on Sunday that I'd always promised myself I'd do once I was fit enough and it was like a mini adventure in itself as I was on my own for the whole time as I always cycle on my own, for though it'd be nice to have company to do that with, as I've done it for so long on my own it's not essential plus when I eventually reached my chosen destination, before I headed back I met a few people and was talking to them who I think had travelled to the same place as me as tourists, by the time I was finished chatting to them I think I should have been working for the local tourist board in terms of giving them advice as to where to go to get something to eat in the area and indeed other places to visit but the bottom line is I find it's when you do a trip on your own that you often meet folk you might not otherwise see or talk to and that's what makes it more enjoyable in itself especially if like me you're quite shy too.
Hahah those bloody lights! I forgot I had brought them… after dicking around in the dark trying to get changed 😂😂 think they are just too long to be fair… I got to giddy and caught up in the whole #vanlife thing ha. Smaller more practical ones I reckon :) ey, gawp away… that van is just bloody awesome!
@@KatieKookaburra It's good to know you've a secure base on your solo adventures, unfortunately there's plenty of Dingbats roaming "Plague Island" ! Stay safe road Angel
Lovely video Katie, and some wise words about doing your own little solo adventures. Oh and telling nosey buggers to sod off 😆😆. Looking forward to see what you do with the van inside.
I go camping in the new forest every year with my sister so never take my bike. I’ve always wanted to cycle there and have been thinking about going for a long weekend there on my own but always been too nervous about going and doing it. After watching this video it’s made me realise I love my own company and doing something like this will be good for me so thank you. Also I’d love to get a van
I bizarrely enjoy solo travel more alone. Just means you can do what you want when you want. I also travelled solo as i realised i was wasting my time waiting for my friends to go!
Completely agree, although it took some years to realize that being alone doesn't equal to being lonely. I don't feel lonely anymore, as I know, I'm never alone. We're one, with everything ❤️
Awesome - I've been itching to do this and had my sights set on Gwynedd / Snowdonia, you've motivated me to do it soon! I The ocean is a great place to think, I sometimes think when I am looking out to sea that there's probably someone else looking back from other side, thinking about things too! :)
when self-driving trucks come along for the mass, a group of people can take the truck to a remote place and get off to cycle while the truck will drive to the nearest road and pick those people up automatically and riders won't need to cycle back to starting point
Some of us are happy with and enjoy our own company, and some are not, I'm with you on this one and understand what you mean, enjoy what you are doing. Richard
Maybe fit some wind deflectors for the windows so you can have them open just a tad at night to help with possible condensation. Great vlog once again Katie …
The start of new van adventures, you'll do little bits and it'll get to the point you put the bike in bag change of clothes bit of grub and go everything you need is all ready in the van, less faff, well in theory.😁❤
Nowt wrong with doing stuff on your own. I remember years ago wanting to go horse riding in Cornwall, no bugger wanted to go with me so I just said "sod it" and went on my own. I had a great time.
Might seem stupid but do you have anything to secure the bike(s) in the van so they aren't falling over and wallowing around the van while your driving?
Definitely worth getting a box of van day to day essentials like tea/coffee, tin opener, lighter, maybe pinch some milk sachets from a cafe, dehydrated rice meal packets etc. And maybe a separate stove to keep in there, doesn't have to be expensive ultra light one as it's in the van, but knowing all that stuff is there all the time is great for impromptu adventures! I love going off for the evening with no notice, parking up somewhere and making a hot chocolate while watching the sun set. Feels very decadent on a midweek work day! And always have a bikini in there for surprise swim spots:-)
Out of interest, which Doblo is it and how much lying space have you? Im assuming it’ll fit a bike standing up straight. Just some things im needing to know before making the plunge :)
Yeah it’s perfect! Have a look at my Instagram story you can see the bike in it. Plenty tall enough for a bike and long enough for me to lay down - I’m 5’ 10
Van looks mint already. May it bring you many miles and days of pleasure. Agree with learning to be with yourself. It provides a space to develop and grow. I class myself as a sociable loner. It's nice to have the choice of being on your tod or being with others.
Does filming for the channel make it feel less of a time alone? And does that have its ups and downs - perhaps when you might just be soaking it up, you have to get it filmed? Or conversely when you want to have someone to share it with, you have 83.4k of them? I used to have a Fiat Doblo too, went on forever, and like the tardis inside.
Agree I sometimes feel more lonely when in a crowd, I’m never lonely when alone, there’s less stigmatism doing stuff by self by yourself now days.
Doing stuff my yourself is great! Feels so good to get out there!! Mint van - we just bought a van 🚐 once you get the shower and poop situation sorted then its perfect!! Sending love from Ireland 🇮🇪

Of on your own to explore having fun and a good bike ride. Enjoy the missions
When you were heading through the trees towards the beach at Newborough it took me back in time as l realised l was last on that beach 30 years ago 🙁
You have such a beautiful attitude Katie…So uplifting
"And it wasn't me" LOL Katie never change. LOL

Lol you do make me chuckle very jealous would love a van to get away in. Looking fwd to seeing more of your adventures 👍🏻🚴🏼♂️
hi katie
The most personable Video I've seen you do.
I concur with all you've said, and am currently distracted by you when i should be planning my french trip later this year.
So camping, kayaking and cycling in various places around france in september and feeling excited like you.

It surely was!!! STUNNING!! Xx
Llanberis Pass on the mainland is worth doing. It's long and gets steeper as you go on, but lovely views when you drop down on the other side
Interesting about your talk about being on your own on your van adventure,I love to hear your stories and wisdom it's great Kate .
Fair Play Katie 👍👍👍
I’d of had to go to shop for Yorkshire tea bags 🤣🤣
We’re all Gorping at ya watching this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣cool 👍
Anglesey, North Wales is glorious and a great location Katie. The Tour de Mon sportive is on 22 August and is 107 miles around the island, not for the faint hearted.👍
Your musings about solo adventures are basically what i tell people when they ask me about my solo journeys (which is all my journeys).
I recall speaking to my mum about it, and she asks "Aren't you be terrified by being so isolated?" my only response: "as long as I stay sensible, what's the worst that could happen?" And yes, making peace with your own company is a worthwhile and rewarding state to be in.
I hope you find more adventures in your van, stay safe, and sane! Chapeau! ^_^

1:28 Loving the Shaggy song reference, Katie. But can't remember those lyrics 😉
"There's a huge human poo at the back... And it wasn't me" 😂
Guava Rubicon is my all time fave hangover cure drink. Lovely stuff! Need to try the Lychee...
Lovely van and van setup Katie :)
Great video Katie, really glad you shared it,
hope your teabags you forgot were yorkshire tea, My favourite cuppa😋
Great having your own company, you don't have to chuffing please everyone else 😂 looking forward to seeing your next video 😊
Very inspiring and very wise. Oh and a lot of fun too. Mind you, you are not a gentle wallflower, so wouldn’t imagine being on your own worries you. It might worry others e.g. “She better not park next to me. Go on, bugger off. What you looking at?” Scary!
I never feel alone in my own company, but often do with others, usually when they're not like minded, totally get what you're saying 👍
Really enjoyed this Katy with the modification you should have a bed that’s raised and your bike underneath your bed iv seen loads of stuff on Instagram and other places online and also some modified vans with bikes hv like a thing that slides out too for bike so pretty Kool ey ?

Ah, it's so nice to see you enjoying your first mini van adventure Katie. Looking forward to the next video😊💚🌱
What a babe, loving the energy emitting out from these vlogs. Gives me the motivation to go out and get fit AGAIN.
You are living the dream, and it is just want I want to do in the USA. Mountains east. Mountains west. Flats (but not that flat) in between. And your perspective is uplifting! Finally, your thinking about being with others or not being with others is also my thinking.
Timing Video as I've thought of doing something similar. There has to be an Audax on Anglesey to do sometime also
Words of wisdom u lucky girl amazing vlog skinny k loved watching it. There's a tri called sandman x
It doesn't get any better.... Van Life and Cycling 🚲😍
Couscous, now that's an easy camp food I haven't had in awhile. The van will slowly evolve and it will make everything easier.
Katie, where did you get your riding glasses from?
Good rides on the isle of wight 👍👍

The cycling in the New Forest is amazing.
Cool.....glad your doing ok......could get a camp bed in the back of your van

I also travelled solo as i realised i was wasting my time waiting for my friends to go!
Another plus for going on adventures on your own is that you talk to more new people than if you went with friends.
Completely agree, although it took some years to realize that being alone doesn't equal to being lonely. I don't feel lonely anymore, as I know, I'm never alone. We're one, with everything ❤️
Hope to see more van videos! Might meet you on the road in Betty at some point 😅😅
We have to!!
@@KatieKookaburra fingers crossed xx
Bungee cords :) I can secure it with just one now… got it sorted. First time I did it I had three on it!!
Good on ya Katie - enjoy the freedom! 👌🏻
And now Steve is doing some stealth camping /cycling. You need to invite him to England for a complimentary dual video!!
I’ve literally bought that stuff today!! Clever thinking thank you :)
Living in a van down by the river, a motivational speaker
You need to do a bike adventure in Australia when borders open. It's amazing!!!
Some seminal stuff Katie. Takes a traveller ( one who’s travelled ) to know how be at peace. Whatever we are. Alone or in a gang.
Bike life with van adventure love it 👍
I'm always thinking about getting a van,. maybe one day. What is the watch you are wearing ? Thanks
It’s the Wahoo Rival - just giving it a try out.
@@KatieKookaburra Thanks I'm looking for something like that.
I have a checklist for camping so you don't forget stuff like lighters etc 😉
Out of interest, which Doblo is it and how much lying space have you? Im assuming it’ll fit a bike standing up straight. Just some things im needing to know before making the plunge :)
Yeah it’s perfect! Have a look at my Instagram story you can see the bike in it. Plenty tall enough for a bike and long enough for me to lay down - I’m 5’ 10
Mine is Long Wheel Base though
@@KatieKookaburra Awesome, you're taller than me, looking forward to your adventures :)
Ireland Ring of kerry Charity cycle 2 july 2022 IRELAND you can stay here in Ballybunion lovely hills here 2
Van looks mint already. May it bring you many miles and days of pleasure.
Agree with learning to be with yourself. It provides a space to develop and grow. I class myself as a sociable loner. It's nice to have the choice of being on your tod or being with others.
This video is perfect timing as I am seriously thinking about buying a van and throwing my bike and a mattress in the back 👌🏔🏕🚵♀️
Does filming for the channel make it feel less of a time alone? And does that have its ups and downs - perhaps when you might just be soaking it up, you have to get it filmed? Or conversely when you want to have someone to share it with, you have 83.4k of them? I used to have a Fiat Doblo too, went on forever, and like the tardis inside.
Good on you..you have freedom of choice
At 4:49-4:50, if you look to the spit of land to the right you can see Steve Wallis camping.
Bugger off!
Hilarious.
My kids are American. Today they asked me what bugger off meant?
