500 Kms!! My golly Goddess!! You are absolutely amazing! I'm learning to be not scared out there via your hacks and empowerment. Obviously a beginner!! But 500 Kms!! You are amazing!! 🤗🤗🤗
Katie, you're a legend and an inspiration! I attempted a hilly (14,000 ft of climbing) 400K brevet last weekend and only managed 263k. It would have been my longest ride ever. It certainly was the most climbing I'd done in a day (8500 ft). Here you are setting off for a 500 km round trip and making it look easy. Seeing you get it done inspires me to keep pushing my limits. It's also good that you show there's no shame in "hike-a-bike" when you need or just want to. Thank you as always for the videos. Oh and I almost forgot, I was excited to see the Angel of the North! Ever since watching the show "Vera" I've loved that sculpture. They show it on the opening credits.
Thanks for that, needed the push. Really didn't feel like riding today. Just finished putting on my cycling kit and heading out the door for a 70km evening ride.
I'm the same. There are times when I don't feel like it, and I have to determine if I just need to get the blood moving, or it is psychological, or if I really need to take it easy. Usually, if I get on the saddle and just start poking along, I'll enjoy the ride.
I did that tunnel on a ride around Newcastle, North Shields, ferry to South Shields then tunnel. It is a fab tunnel with great lighting and lifts. The signs at the North side are useless. We got lost three times. I was staying with a friend in upper Teesdale, near Barnard Castle. The high roads up to the moors were perfect for say trips. We went to the Tan Hill pub, up steep roads. Well worth the effort. You did well to get yourself out when not motivated. It is worth it when out there, but sometimes we need to make a bit more effort than normal to get out.
Always enjoy coming with you in your rides Katie. And huge respect for your endurance and not to mention courage for undertaking these mammoth rides solo! 😘
Some of my better rides were the ones I had to force myself to get out and do. Either you discover something new or end up riding your best, whether a climb goes easy, fastest downhill, or best average speed
Loved this one, kid - you made I larf! Amazing ride, as always. I just love how you are relaxing into your comfort zone with these vids. You are quite the life coach! x
The baguette bit is gold!!! lol...cracked up laughing. That's EXACTLY what long haul cycling is lol...eating a stale baguette the next day lol. At least when you're focussed more on the cycling and time than stopping to get proper food. Right hilarious!!! And so nonchalant about it all. GOLD!
Seen the ride on your strava and i wondered what you were up to. When i go through the pedestrian tunnel on the mountain bike the road noise of the tyres wow !! hope you enjoyed the ride your a brave lady .... or mad !!
North Yorkshire Moors, I've done a lot of training around there, brutal depending on the route you pick! One time I remember climbing the hill out of Rosedale to the north and climbing into cloud where I was greeted by horizontal rain, it was epic. Grosmont is a fun place to go, nice "little" climb out of it...
When my wife and I visited Great Britain we discovered Premier Inn, when we couldn’t find anywhere else to stay over Easter weekend. After that first night we planned the rest of our trip around Premier Inns as we appreciated it so much. We felt kind of guilty about how much we enjoyed staying there, but feel validated by your appreciation for the chain too!
I had the trouble with that dreaded habit of the planners to send you onto bad gravel paths. Tried a bunch of different ones, so far the best result has been strava with option "prefer paved roads" and popularity routing. Would love to see more comparisons of the results of different planners. Thanks for the video!
You are able to endure so much one cannot help but feel admiration for you, you did great! 🍀😃 I am appreciative for having been shown some Dales and a bit of Newcastle, I take it as a present you give out to all of your affectionate followers 🎁 really appreciate the honesty and courage it takes to display so much of what you do. Rest up your shoulder now, it might have tensed up even more after the ride; some first dates on channel 4 might help, love island though, that I won't recommend 🤨🤕😃
I’m sure if you plan a route in Strava that will give you the option of 100% tarmac roads and you can see the route profile a few planned it. Fair play to you for getting out when you didn’t feel like it, I got to my front door this morning and it was raining… So I ended up watching you whilst on my indoor bike.
Loved this video. Love you, think you are brilliant!!! Hope the Achilles heels (sorry couldn’t help that mis-spell 😂) soon and you’re back on the road. I recommend the coast and castles route from Edinburgh to Newcastle - beautiful scenery 😍
Loved that tunnel. Almost worth the 250k for. I’ve only used Komoot as a route planner. Good for terrain profiles but has taken me down the odd cart track. Suggestion. Rather than ride with a flappy carrier bag at journeys end, I pack one of those thin cloth shopping bags. They roll up small and by looping the handles through each other you can wear it as a rucksack.
Hear you on the routing woes. Did a week in Dumfries which has astounding lanes, but Strava insisted on putting me on the A75 so many times and it's a complete nightmare. Worst thing is it's not marked at all on the Strava maps at any magnification. Did C2C and stayed in Newcastle in August. Great place to have a night out!
Try Komoot sometime. Once you plot a route it will show you all the terrain. It also interfaces with your GPS and can give you audible turn by turn directions.
@@KatieKookaburra I don't think there is anything out there that does that but I'll have to doublecheck to see if there is a filter you can use that would let you select routes by a given surface type. Keep the vids coming. Your spirit is infectious!
I’m rubbish at cancelling rides when I should. Went for my first bikepacking trip towards the end of July - East Yorkshire to Liverpool on day one then the full Leeds-Liverpool canal on day two. Weather forecast got progressively worse in the run up and I still went. Hit storms as I got to the very top of the Pennines and it poured constantly from there until I pulled the plug and got the train at Manchester… but not the train home. Day two and it rained for about 100 of the 130 mile ride along the canal. Turned my first bike tour into an epic but mainly an epic of type 2. Still, lessons learnt 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏼♂️😁
Had no idea you were a Newcastle fan too! Not that there's been much to cheer about over the past 10+ years ⚫⚪ Loved the video, always struggle to get out when the forecast is bad but always glad when I do!
Summer long bike rides are brill - you can leave so much unnecessary clothing at home! Did the Tyne Tunnel earlier this year- made sure to stick that in the route for the novelty value - had to be done!
Posted before I saw the whole vid... Strava will give you a profile of all climbs and each segment on the map. Still could do with avoiding main roads though.
Yup weather has been unpredictable of late. I've planned a couple of routes, but mainly just go out ride and see how it goes, usually end up trying to dodge Roger raincloud.
Another great video Katie. I use Komoot and Google maps (with street view) to plan my rides. Must confess to spending a long time doing it but I have never got lost and end up riding on surfaces that I am comfortable with. Shouldn't have written that as I will now get lost and end up having to cross a ford on Tuesdays 85mile ride into Nottinghamshir👍🤗🚲 You are an inspiration Katie, keep on peddaling👍🙂🚲
Great to see you on a ride on my neck of the woods TOON looks a epic ride hope you enjoyed it ,fantastic well done 👏 ,the hills looked a shocker ,love watching your videos ,not a road rider I use a cube 29er mtb but love doing trips like yourself there we are on you tube , rocklobstercat keep them coming they are mint Ta Ta 😀 x

I do however share your fondness for the huge Prem bed, not to mention the awesome shower, also worth mentioning for people that dont know, the Prem Inn do allow you to take your bikes to your room. Hope you're taking advantage of the breakfast as well... 😋
Ah good old Murton Bank, the climb on your return journey. Fairly local to me and always a tester. Lovely road all the way to the top the white horse. Agreed, it would be so handy if you planned your route on strava if it would show you which hilly segments there is so you have a rough guide what to expect. It’s not easy to tell just seeing shark teeth all over the route. It is also annoying when it does route route you down a gravel or worse path, especially when not familiar with the area!
Thank you for inspiration from the rainy Western Siberia aka Finland. Hope to make my first series of brevets next spring... 200k, 400k, 600k and so forth... I cant understand how one can drag oneself from a warm hotel bed after barely closed your eyes... I guess if I ever get that far I'll have to sleep in a ditch beside my steely steed.... Anyway, impressed as always...
I agree on the bike nav apps. I plan mine and it always takes me off road no matter how hard I try to avoid it. Strava and kamoot should have a tarmac setting only
Strava at least has one that worked pretty well for me, prefer paved roads or something like it. Might depend on location, but works well both in poland, germany and sweden IME...

Some lovely scenery around those ways when your not on the main roads.

Aw the hedgehog! Love those little critters.
The 25% climb by the Owl at Hawnby is Murton Bank- one of my favourites!
Awww mega thank you! See I knew someone would know :)

That mystery 25% climb looks like Murton Bank, on Peak Scar Road. Was on it myself on Tuesday 🥺
Terrific ride. A perfect example of 'mood follows action'.
Great looking ride. Well done KK. I’m very jealous of the rain and grey skies living in Dubai …… don’t judge me either 😉

Murton Bank out of Hawnby Katie - easy to recognise this bad boy. Well done, crazy distance!
Well done Katie. Was out on my bike again today. Gaining distance day by day. Should be off my housing estate in a week or two I reckon ❤
That's the distance from one end of Greece (mainland) to the other! WOW! Nice one Katie

Awesome 500km, tunnel was cute, needed better lighting in the hotel room & at the end, was almost dark😎 Thanks for keeping us all motivated.
It was dark :)
Similar tunnel in Glasgow, the Clyde tunnel. It's good fun, lay of the brakes and see how fast you can get.
