Now you need an old duvet cover for your bike, it's by far the best way I found for keeping a wet/dirty bike from minging up my kit, floor and sleeping area.
I used a king size one which I cut about 1/3 off (and obviously sewed up!) And the bike slots into the 'popper' end, pull the cover up over the bike, fasten the poppers and hey presto the muck is contained.
When you're home you just throw it in the washing machine and it's ready to go again.

Nice job. Wish I were that handy. Get some magnetic hooks. Can use anywhere. Consider a raised sleeping platform. Still leaves Room for your bike and creates storage. Are you going to vent the roof? Having one of those spinners I think gives you priority access to any gap in the traffic.

Proper pimped Van!! I am pleased to see such cosiness and minimalism, it has not become a crammed place such as you often see, It is plenty homey and generous in space.
And your bike is bound to rest just beside you 🚲
I'm glad to see such eagerness to try it all out, you deserved it 🌛

Great and simple van transformation for your cycling adventures Katie. Congrats to you and your dad..👍... perhaps some wind-deflectors for door windows so you can slightly open them for a bit of ventilation to reduce condenation whilst sleeping overnight ?
Also couple battery powered LED lights to supplement your string of lights ?
Hope your recovery from the achilles injury going well..👍😀

Oh, Katie how I love it when I see you so happy!
Nice job on the van, and well done for making your own choices about what you wanted in respect of fitting it out. I guess if you had put a setee/bed in, it wouldn't have left much room for carrying bikes.
Finally, a word about having your dad help you with the project. You are lucky that you have him, and that he was able to help you. Buy him a beer!
Now, we are all set for some Katie adventures.......

Katie look into making a Chuck box for storing all your cooking gear.
I built one from plywood with one of those generic single burners on top with a shelf beneath and open storage for pans etc at the bottom.
Mine is none fixed and was designed to be used in the mpv or lifted out onto a picnic bench or any table 👍

great finishes and personal touches. i'm definitely a less is more but, if i may suggest, an inflatable air mat to sleep on. a nice camping style and you absolutely will not regret it. also a small metal table for the cooker [metal in case of a fuel spill] and a comfy chair that you can store in the cabin when you sleep. again, great job!

For the last two years I've been contemplating acquiring a Tesla CyberTruck and setting it up for cycling adventures. Imagine summoning the car each evening to wherever you are on your cycle tour, so you could put your bike and gear inside and spend the night in there as well before proceeding onwards the next day. No need for expensive frequent stay overs in B&Bs or hotels or unpleasant ones in tents during continental cycle tours.

Great job, I doubt I’d get that done in a day. I got a camp bed with memory foam mattress from Argos for about £80.. I suspect it would fit in that..
it would give you a bit of stowage underneath. It folds Nice and bungee it to the side when driving.

Very nice and cosy, going to keep you toastie warm. The only thing I'd add is sound deadening and insulation on the roof, as I found heavy rain made a fair racket and condensation formed on it.

Come out good Katie. It was a good score getting the van with the plywood already fitted. You can buy the insulation on a roll that they use in the Omar homes. Might pay to get a rear camera fitted to the screen if you don't have one.

I'm so proud of you and jealous at the same time. In the near future my plan is to do what you did but here in America.I want to buy a van also. Planning on riding around the state of Florida while bikepacking. In the planning stages now, waiting till the cooler weather arrives again. I am a male version of you. I am a Vegan who fell in love with cycling and can't imagine my life not being a Vegan cyclist. What wonderful gifts we have been given to find these passions. I wish for you many happy and new adventures and look forward to your future videos.

  • @platypushatstand
    @platypushatstand 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You could make a bed that folds down leaving room underneath for storage and when not needed folds up flat against the van wall with a couple of bungy cords to secure it. Maybe use an old sun lounger for the frame or make one from plywood. I’d definitely sound deaden the roof like you’ve already done the rest of the van, make it sound less like a biscuit tin, I can imagine the sound of rain drumming on the roof during the night 🙉

After pulling a muscle in my leg I started to use an exercise bike just to get the blood flowing in my leg and after 3 weeks my legs were a lot better so started to look at doing more road cycling to get fitter, where I started watching your videos and learning how to manage my body better. Watched your video on what you have for breakfast, did not look exciting but decided to give it a try, used to have 4 spoons of oats microwaved, sometimes now have 6 spoons in hot water with a little semi-skimmed milk most days. Keep the videos coming, please.

Hi Katie, Loved the vid with your dad, really cool. Love your story and how cycling has changed you physically and mentally. I have been a bit late to road biking, but the last year and a half I have really enjoyed it and with following your inspiration I did my first 50km at 57 in just over two hours with an average speed of 23km's. Oh my name is Mike and formerly from Leeds, but now I live in Christchurch NZ. Keep up the great vid's cheers Mike

    love it.
regarding the amount of spray glue- 'shit loads' haha technical term?? haha
j've seen vans with a 'stick-on solar panel on the roof, could be an option to fit a charging point for phone, computer, lights etc.
also seen a makita coolbox, pricy but runs on 240v and 12v and cordless drill batteries.
don't know what lights you have in the back, but led rope lights are very low power consumption.
take a piece of plywood with you to stand your stove/cooker on as heat protection. it will save melting your lovely floor.
(or the heatproof pad from an ironing board)

You went about this the correct way. Simple and clean. Now you can use it for a while and take notes about what is really important. Maybe a portable cot ?? FYI on the stick on sound deadener - unless you cover almost every square inch - the results will be underwhelming and that stuff is pricey as you probably found out. Cheers !

Now that's almost the set up I want in the van I would like to get. I would probably have included a sleeping platform with storage underneath, but that adds weight and makes things more complicated. Nice job.
