  • In this video I talk about how to add that 'hazy' rasp so many bands use. Bands like Earshot, Hinder, Nickelback, and Finger Eleven (sometimes) use this technique, probably thousands of other bands as well. It is very close to the regular rasp technique, but it is more breathy, and much more gentle. It does tickle your throat much more than traditional rasp, but when you get into doing it correctly it will almost feel like its resonating in your nasal area.

This lil vid helps a lot, just an estimate cause I have a full schedule of gigs, about how long does it take to learn how to do this specific vocal style?

what would you categorize a Corey Taylor style as?

  • @AndrewSouthworth

Pretty much! The techniques should be the same with soft and loud, so with some practice you should be able to do both.

Awesome thanks! So I'm guessing that if adding the soft rasp is easy for me, like let's say earshot when he is singing soft. Then when he get more loud and power full, if that is hard for me then I just need to practice going soft to loud with rasp till it gets more comfortable?

this means war by Nickelback would be a very good example if you can sing that.I really appreciate your tutorials:) I am still trying to sing with this hazy rasp thing.

No, that isn't what he is explaining here. This means war is very heavy rasp which goes into controlled yelling in the chorus. What he is talking about here is what Chad does in song like Photograph, Someday, and Rockstar. The degree of rasp is very different.
