I have actually taken out a sunken Ruby Mermaid by myself. I had around 5 or so gunpowder barrels, placed them *above* the statue. After 10 minutes the barrels will sink, then I just shot them. It takes a while, but it does work.
Great tip that can be implemented during Mermaid Hunting after the release of Season 3 and the introduction of the Trident of Dark Tides: You can use the Tridents to easily destroy Mermaid Statues, especially Red ones, even if you are solo and they are deep below the water.
They honestly need to buff the mermaids besides the sapphire one, too much effort for very little return. The ruby statue should give atleast 3-5 gems and the emerald 2-3. Sapphire is fine at 1 gem.

I did raise suspicion that it was a mermaid but earlier I thought they would attack so I kept on thinking it was some weir cursed rock. Good to know what they are now. Awesome video.

With the way the mermaid reacts during the fight I thought the damage had to be consistent... It looks like it's getting closer to exploding as you damage it then it appears to reset if you stop to heal... Am I over thinking it?
If you and a buddy are playing and spot a ruby position the sloop starboard side so that you can shoot the statue and pick up ammo quickly, takes a about a minute but it's worth it.
Another way to take down the Ruby mermaid is with the trident! Very effective when u charge it all the way. I don't recall if one trident is enough, but I'm sure it is!
You can solo all of the statues, even just using a cutlass, even a ruby statue, as long as you have 5 food on you. Go in, wail on the statue until you think you need to get away to eat/breathe. Do so until you are high enough on health to go in again, rinse and repeat. May not be the most efficient, but beats carrying around kegs.

I was next the island where was green mermaid statue. I was wondering and shooting it many times like 10-15 minutes and also tried with cannon ball. Then I decided to watch this video and I got kind of brave mode and after short battle (threw few bombs to mermaid statue, shoot few times. Then I started to cutlass finish it and also take care of my healh so eated some fruits and then it was done, I took down and killed green mermaid😁👍 So thanks for these tips! Was very helpful when I needed it most. Fun fact: After I got green mermaid I sailed to Crook's hollow. So there was this blue mermaid statue. That wasn't bad statue it was very easy to destroy cause I was in brave mode. But anyways thanks one more time🙂👍
I know I’m SUPER late on this, and some of this video is outdated. As a solo slooper, you can destroy any mermaid statue with the harpoon without having to go under water. Helps with the red ones. It takes a bit of effort though. :)
You actually can get ruby mermaid statues that are underwater. Even while playing solo. It takes leaving a number of powder kegs to float above the statue and they'll start to submerge. It takes a a while, like 10-15 minutes. You'll have to drop one keg right after the other though so one will start to submerge right after the other cause kegs despawn after touching the ocean floor after a few short minutes. It's a bit of a grind, but it's doable.
Any and all are easy just plan and prepare. Also if its near an island with barrels just use cannonballs and replenish them. Also i swear they are easier now than depicted here even for solod
Also it seems that the statues regen if you don't attack for a while, so using your gun on a red one is pretty much useless on its own as it regens while you get more ammo
well on the green mermaid: you can not die from a green mermaid on full health if u just keep slashing it; you will have around 3-6 health remaining, just oging in, keep slashing slashing slashing and u can easily solo the green mermaid
Sell your gems to the order of souls or merchants to make your points bar go up super quick. A green emerald gave me the equivalent of around 8-10 bounty skulls.
So I just booted up the game today and I found a ruby gem sitting on the ground and I was confused on what it was so I looked it up and apparently this is what it is and also there's another Ruby one right next to it pretty much so that's cool Edit nvm its gone now EDIT 2 nvm I'm an idiot I moved it to my captions table
Ruby mermaids are easy to kill five shots of the flintlock hit it about 10 or 12 times with a sword keep in mind you have to eat at least five pieces of food during this process so be careful
Since they got re-added, I haven’t been able to find a SINGLE emerald statue. I’ve encountered maybe 60 Ruby and sapphire ones, but not one Emerald, what’s going wrong for me?
Emerald has always been a lesser find for me too, I am not sure why, it just seems like it is less common than the other two. Just keep an eye on plunder valley, shipwreck bay and crooked masts, I have found many there

Yes it was a limited event, but now they are back for good, I recommend you familiarize yourself with the game before April 30th, if you haven't seen the anniversary update yet, a lot is coming
Ruby mermaids can be broken solo now. Take a blunderbuss, a cutlass and five blunder bombs as well as food. (Pineapples and cooked megalodon work best but it can even be done with just bananas) 1. first throw all five blunder bombs trying to hit the statue as directly as possible while closing the distance to blunderbuss range. (Eye of reach works as well but this is how I do it and you will want to get as close as you can anyways) Don't get too close while throwing or you will wound yourself with the bombs. If possible you should try to do this step before diving down or just below the surface of the water so you can grab a quick breath before diving so as to postpone drowning damage. If the mermaid is particularly deep underwater, then throw the bombs while swimming down toward it. 2. Be sure to get as close to the statue as you can without getting hurt by the statue's curse and shoot all five blunderbuss (or eye of reach) rounds into it's chest to ensure most, if not all bullets hit. 3. Immediately close the remaining distance and hack at it with your sword until it breaks. Don't stop except to eat, don't go up for air. (Food=Air) If you did it right you should burst the gem free before you drown or die. Eat food as necessary for your comfort if you are getting worried about dying all the same, but you should be able to heal after the statue breaks by eating your foodstuffs.

Yes, it heals if you leave it, good observation :) damage has to be consistent
You can stop to eat a bananna or go up for air, but the longer you take, the more it heals.
Protip: use your ships harpoon to break them

They should make it so if u damage it enough to see the heart you can harpoon the gem out of it
You can use the harpoon as a minigun to break even red ones from safety, as long as it's not in the depths

Blunder bombs are also a great way to deal damage to mermaid statues, and paired with the Blunderbuss, it makes for a very quick takedown

I shot open a red mermaid with a flintlock and a box of ammo, stood next to it and kept pumping pellets, it took alot of shots.
Years later a simple bubble gun/trident will get the job done rather quickly. Get the red one solo with it under water also.

I found a sapphire one yesterday, just shot it a few times and it popped
Once as a solo, I got three kegs and tons of cannon fire but it still siurvived
The crane of tornade event boss is a flamethrower , work perfectly to destroy mermaids
I have soloed ruby, you only need blunderbuss and some coconuts
True, at the time blunderbuss was weaker and only food in the game was Bananas

The sapphire mermaid can be killed from 5 or 4 shots from a pistol (I think)

I have killed a ruby mermaid underwater but it required 5 pineapples and a supply crate of food right above me.
