Your content is so helpful! Thanks!
It's not up there cannon aim video please
Phuzzy I feel like you are the only SOT youtuber these days who doesn't profit off of constant "the game is dying" doomer videos, thank you for actually continuing to make great guides and positive content
@Scribbinge fr I just bought it in 2024 and I think it is amazing game, it is old but gold
what abt clidf
everything and everyone is dying, at different speeds
SoT is one of the greatest games of all time. There's no shot this game is dying anytime soon! Rare is too awesome to let that happen!
game is getting more popular up 50% on steam charts
I let my ship sink yesterday due to me missing cannonball basically point blank, on an anchored ship. I don't know if even this tutorial can save me :^)
Yeah, I’m awful but I love the game anyway.
Fight sails half raised. This stabilizes your ship.
😂😂
You’re a fisherman now
We've all been there buddy.
You forgot to mention that raising sails to half helps reducing the movement of the cannon.
Also in those waves is useful to know that if the ship is going down, aim high, and viceversa
10/10 on your content. There's no filler, just facts based on playing a game a long time. From a new player trying to understand the mechanics, thank you for your efforts and how you present it !
Cannons are nice, but the strategy described at 7:08 is pure gold.
that was so funny lmao
7:00 is an even better strategy
Everyone does this in solo HG
Hi, UE game dev here, the water in sot travels the same direction because it's the easiest way to do it, water in SoT works through something called vertex displacement, and it's very, very hard to code vertex displacement that goes multiple directions in UE4 (the engine SoT is made with)
And having it go one direction means less bugs
I figured it had something to do with the difficulty in coding! Good to know.
It would still be good for variation reasons if the direction the waves changed daily or weekly.
Wait.. we're playing a version of SOT with LESS bugs?!
Love the video topic, this needed to be covered!
In my humble experience and opinion, this is crucial to know and to have in the back of your head.
But DO NOT prioiritize turning your ship based on the wave direction above ALL else.
A CLEAR example here, while Phuzzy was trying to demonstrate the effect of the waves on aim during his hourglass fight, you pretty much close to NEVER turn A SLOOP LEFT in hourglass, ESPECIALLY if you're going to paralel fight and not orbit around eachother.
If you turn left:
- you expose the right side of your sloop, which has more potential holes than your left side,
- your opponent, if he's smart, NOW has the chance sail in a parallel with you, exposing his left side, which has less potential holes
The following below are facts regradless of how your opponent turns his ship:
- the first crack that the mast recieves is always the side closest to the stairs, which means in this situation, you'll be facing your opponent with your BACK while you're attempting to repair the first damage of your mast, which as any good player, you should prioritize above everything else, meaning you'll be doing it A LOT.
- 2/3 Stairsets of the SLOOP are to situated on the RIGHT side of the SLOOP (with the last 1/3 being more in the middle) , when turning YOUR sloop LEFT and exposing your RIGHT side, you're undoubtedly siginificantly more exposed to cannon fire while trying to do most of the traversal around your ship (bucketing, moving from cannon to wheel back to cannon, going for wood/food, etc.)
HOWEVER this is not an end all be all rule to keep, there are instances when you have either no option but to expose your right side, or just have to play your right on account of other circumstances. But at least be mindful of the given info :)
i started playing this game few weeks ago, and almost everything i know was just knowledge from your videos, thank you so much for making content and i wish you good luck in this sphere of content :D
Latest update is definitely bringing me back to the game, I have shorter times to spend in games at one seating and the way we can pop to quests is way fun and convenient, good info on the cannons, thank you for the continued awesome work with your videos!
When you get the feel for it you can counter the rock of the ship with the movement of the canons. It's still more of a pain when you're dealing with greater rock because it sometimes gives you a faster rock up or down than you were expecting.
I got really good at it, my friends sometimes just refer to me as "the weapon system". Worthless in hand-to-hand, better than all my crewmates at cannons.
Hello! Great video! As a main helm, I was used to help my canon having a better aim for more than a year now. I can tell, this detail makes a big difference in fight.
This explains why I sometimes have my cannon shots either go really high or really low illogical. I have had situations where u basically have to aim at the bottom deck to hit the top deck because the cannon balls just kept shooting way to high.
good video, well explained, but id prioritize a left side cannon broad cause theres less holes on sloop left side, the mast falls to the right, your cannonball barrel is closer & you get knocked around less on stairs while there cannoning.
+ mast broke right side first
You can also gauge your death spiral/loop by lining up your turning using the lantern and sail height rope as a sort of cone of fire reticle for the left cannon. The rear end of the ladders I believe is pretty close to the mid point. This'll give you the left/right angles of your cannons
4:55 I think by this time, Phuzzy, you know they turned to that point (right) because exposing the left side of the ship is good strategy.
I never thought about placement of the ship based on wave direction. Quality tips brother.
1:48 face the opposite South East AKA North West for the best results, thanks for the great advice !!
If you turn left at the start of an hourglass fight on a sloop, you're actually at a disadvantage.
All high tier players turn hard right and then soft left to get them in a left side orbital.
Why?
- There is 1 less hole that can be made on the left side of a sloop.
- The mast falls right, so does not block the cannons angle
- The stairs that people stand to bucket at is located on the right. Thus avoid being hit as much by cannonball splash damage whilst bucketing or running downstairs (opposite side of the incoming broad).
Following the movement of the waves is only valid when the enemy only wants to take a parallel (sailing straight shooting at each other). In this scenario you can turn out and force it on easier waves. But it will be easier for them also, making it a even 50/50 match.
So its a good idea to learn how to use cannon aim to counter the waves going up and down. Meaning you have the advantage 100% of the time.
Sorry Phuzzy but I did hear HOURGLASS but instead OUR CLASS. You are the best Sea of Thieves teacher so it still works
778 hours on this game and still learning something new. Thanks Phuzzy ❤.
I think aim improves with alcohol cosumption in my case. After 4 beers I unlock organic rangefinder. 2 more and fall prediction and movement correction come to me. Also I lose ability to steer ship, but you win some you lose some.
😂
Are you me!? 3-4 is my sweet spot and suddenly I can not miss!
If he said "and they're gonna go up and they're gonna got down" one more time, I would reach a deep meditative state.
the day phuzzy gets the gold athena curse, we're all getting wiped
💀
What wheel is that? Great video!!
thre's also the other reason why people turn right, on a sloop it means putting your left side to the enemy ship which has 2 less holes to deal with vs the right side
Let's say you're aiming with the left cannon. When the ship rocks left, you will have to aim higher. When the ship rocks right, you will have to aim lower. The velocity of the ship, as when moving forward vs. stopped, is applied to your cannonballs with the up and down motion of what you see aiming with the cannon. Higher pings will have you see your ship in the state that it was in, in the past on the server i.e. your ship might already be rocking wildly on the server, even though you see the ship as staying level on your screen
mannnnn i wish you were my dad :(
so glad to see you sailing the seas again, learned a lot from you when i first started and still to this day
Very helpfull , thanks PhuzzyBond !
4:55 he's not turning right because of the waves, everyone turns right, to expose the left side of the sloop. The left side has 1 less hole to worry about than the right side of the sloop.
This is a good strategy if you have alot of time. I always leave if people run away and start a new fight with someone that wants to fight.
5:00 your giving them pressure advantage by exposing your right side with 8 holes. Whereas they have 7. The waves should not matter in any cannon situation except when you are near a island, calm water is a massive advantage when your enemy has choppy water. 0:55 Even if you are facing SW by S the stability of the cannon won't provide all that much of a advantage when compared to facing N or E (This is if you are demasted). Waves don't matter if your enemy also has the same waves as you. Its better to orbital on left side at the beginning so you can get a good idea of the enemy's helming skill, cannon barrel is closer, 7 holes, and can see the enemy ship more. Cannons really just depend on who has more experience. If you want to become good at cannons and don't want to fight players then do skelly fleets. If you want to be good at cannons and want to fight players then do hourglass on all ship types.
Sorry but unless in some very specific scenarios (Mostly outside of Hourglass) you shouldn't prio waves, but rather the broadside depending on the ship type that you're sailing on. (Left side for the sloop in this case) first time im hearing a claim that higher tier players are turning a specific way primarily because of taking into account of SE waves. If you look at all the good PvP Streamers doing Hourglass they 99% are taking either a Left side broad on a sloop/brig or a right side on galleon regardless of waves, waves are never a factor only exception is close range broad where you cant physically hit lowers on the enemy ship from being to close and waves being high.
And you just need to get good on using cannons on the fly regardless of waves.
You're largely correct but it's still good info. Also worth mentioning that if you're shooting an immobilized ship to apply pressure without a Death Spiral you might want to position according to the waves. In places like the Wilds an average player can even have trouble hitting an immobilized ship when the waves are rocking the ship.
Vid helped me so get faced
@@saucy692 ok bro, keep painting your nails.
That skele captain though lmaoo
Act like you don’t know what you’re doing because you don’t know what you’re doing and they’ll just leave haha
One of the main problems is that they made a change to the waves and how much it rocks the ship a year or two ago and they need to revert it.
So if you actually have good aim, the waves are irrelevant...
I just started playing this game. It’s awesome
Phuzzy out here still teaching us stuff
Hi Phuzzy, i love your videos and learn the game by your guides, but since i grow up a lot on the game, i've reach a certain level in solo sloop naval, all you say in this videos are true, those are facts, but when talking about strategy, mostly in a 1v1 sloop battle (hourglass), the way to fight is clearly not to go in waves for a good canons, but that not the point of the videos.
By raise your sail arround half, you highly reduce the movement of waves, i think you should talk more about, how speed affect the rocking, don't move and your ship rock like hell, move fast and it's move, half sail you eat less waves.
It might be too advance, but keep in mind, your comunity grow up too, and i think it's a good deal to try to make more advance guide. I think i don't have to learn you how naval in solo sloop, so i'm sure you can make a good guide about it, playing left side, how mast fall, how to raise sail a bit, all those thing you do naturally, lot of people don't do it, they will surely enjoy learning it from you.
Sorry for my english lol, have a good day !
7:00 Skellie Captain Whip 'em Whapples chose VIOLENCE... BOOM!!!
I'm new to the game and sunk to a skelly sloop 😢
No need to rub it in Phuzzy
Sorry 🙏💚
What is the new default setting for ship combat now that dummy sails aren’t how they used to be? Has it changed?
nice to know that sea always flows to south or sout-east
What wheel is that?
Holy hell, that head is gonna have an orbit soon 😂
Educational... though most of the time it's orbital, and you don't get to choose trajectory, and it doesn't matter for the next 30 sec... If you are in that unfortunate part of the circle and rocking like crazy - how about fixing the boat instead of wasting shots while you get more water?
After 2.3k hrs of HG I realized that the waves don’t really matter unless they NW waves. I tend to just adjust slightly in my cannon aim
Geez I didn't know that. Thanks !
Phuzzy using the contract bearer fit
hidden winning tactic of Hourglass.. drive your opponent to madness so they give up. XD
hey, I have a question because I noticed that when you shoot with cannons, they usually don't move and I would like to know how to do it so that I can have it in my game as well. so how could I do this and if it is still possible to do this
I’m not sure what it is but canon shots came super naturally to me but none of my friends can get the hang of it
Experiment until your opponent has to leave, how to unsuck 101
informative and good quality. no nonsense. good job
Wow, woah, this is the first time i’ve seen this underwater ship stuff, when was this added
pretty sure its been a long time since pvp matchmaking was added
with waves, you just have to compensate your aim and you CAN shoot thru waves no problemo
Those gold and black cannons- can you still get those and what are their names?
I'm pretty sure those cannons are part of the gold leaf set
I'm new to SOT what does he mean when he's saying hourglass?
i stopped playing for ages and came back and my aim was impeccable first shot misses 9/10 times 2nd shot will always land
Ill ask all my competitors to sail in a certain direction next time
The reason the waves move from NW to SE is to mimic how waves work in real life. Because of the rotation of the Earth, waves spread out NE from the equator and SE from the equator.
This confirms that the SoT is south of the equator.
Surprised not more people are cognisant of this as it is high school level geography knowledge.
Ah yes, the win by "I have way too much free time on my hands than YOU, blue-collar-boy". I am familiar.
Waves always flows from northeast to south east.
I will try this, in on lord of seas tale rn, i get two shots on a ghost ship, then have to chase them down and waste more cannons each time, 😢
Get the cannons with straight up iron sights and never miss again
I always thought wave went on the compass points I remember someone else video on that years back but now i see it is a weird s by sw hard to remember.
Honestly. I just really wish northwest waves werent as bad to sail on. Its so utterly disorenting no matter what roll i fill on the ship. Out of every mechaninc in the game. THAT is the one i would change if possible.
His old video is 3 years old and doesn't need to be updated. I find that rather sad actually. It means Rare never improved the cannon in those 3 years.
What's there to improve with the cannon? They need to improve these damn bugs. I still can't access my ship milestone rewards
@@miraculousmulatto How about more ammo types? Different types of cannons? adjusting damage depending on the ship type. Let me do this one better. Why haven't a lot of the core mechanics of the game been improved? They've had a lot of time after all.
7:25 For real tho, that works sometimes.
as a programmer, its definetely possible and is an easy thing to change the wave direction.
but i guess they just chose not to do it.
so its not a technical thing.
they might do something like that in the future.
but considering all the updates up until now, i dont think they will touch the water settings or change it.
Congrats, you finally figured out the new waves mechanic
made me want to watch a Mr. Bean movie lol
Welp I got sunk by the ghost fleet today when it hit the Athena keg I was carrying. I guess that’s my fault
Support Comment! Great Video! Again Evergreen!
You should never turn left in sloop and take a right side broad... and no the other guy wasn't turning that way because of waves he was turning because he wants a left side broad lol.
On sloop if your mast drops it goes to the right which can block cannon shots and board attempts. You also get knocked off of buckets when taking a right side broad. That makes more of a difference compared to making sure you sail in the perfect direction for the waves. I really hope this video is a joke lol
Not to mention that you never want to take a parallel broad in solo sloop because your boat will sail out of bounds if you go for a board.
🤓
I am aware of the ship's side advantage, however This was a demonstration to show how waves work and not to PVP. As mentioned in the video, several times.
To be honest you should infact ALWAYS turn right bc it gives not only one less hole. Most players know that, and i guess you too, but the main mast falls on brig to the right so one of your cannons are "blocked". There are stronger and weaker sides for a reason. Same for why you should always go right on sloop and why you should always go left on gally. Brig is a bit of a mess, yes. But to be honest Brig is only good for sailing the seas normaly. For PVP jus go on sloop or of you have enough players go on Gally. There is a reason why no pros play on Brig lmao😂😂😂
Yo gold hoarders cannons are op perfect sight
What are the name of these cannons
Thumbs up Dawg. Thank u.
What pistol is he using?
What is this for a ship skin ?
what's hourglass ? Haven't played the game for 2 years at this point
It's a PvP matchmaking mode. It transports you to a part of the sea with an opponent so you can 1v1.

i mean thats cool and all, but ulitmatively u are fighting right side vs left side now which doesnt do you any favour, there is a reason people swing right and then turn left into an orbit almost every time...
Hi Twitch :D
Now all the new hg players are just gonna sail SW TO NW n vice versa

Hi
Hello
Don't take pvp advice from a player that is not pvp oriented. Watch iDbZ, peirei, mojdlik. It's like taking advice from a gold ranked player when their are loads of players s tier giving advice
I would wager half of these so called S tier players are cheaters.
@msmithy7813 lol they are not. They stream the game live, saying everyone that at the top is a cheater is just a cop out for not wanting to try

Sorry Phuzzy, Cannoning is like riding a bike. Trying to explain it to people’s brains just doesn’t work. The only way to learn is to keep trying and falling off until it just “clicks”.
