You should be burning oderless lamp oil, not kerosene. Aladdin oderless lamp oil is readily available in the US. Kerosene is only for hurricane outdoor lamps and camping pressure lamps.
Just purchased my first Aladdin lamp. Completely ruined the mantle and did some damage to the wick. Got a new mantle and got a new wick but the flame is not symmetrical. In some spots there is almost no flame and in others quite a large flame. Lamp runs but at low power and I get dark spots on the mantle if I turn it up much at all. I’m running kerosene. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks
It looks like your wick is fairly level with no stray threads. That is needed to burn properly. You didn't mention what you were using for fuel. Lamp oil, undyed K1kerosene, diesel fuel, low odor mineral spirits should all be fine. Do not try to use vegetable oil or liquid paraffin. I understand that in some countries they call kerosene paraffin, but they are not the same thing. Assuming the fuel is not the problem, then it may be the air flow. I would suggest to double-check all of the holes making sure they are all clear with a toothpick or something softer than brass. Good luck.
The quality is not the problem. Light, run on a low flame for 5 minutes and increase wick length/flame slowly. As the lamp gets hotter it becomes an air engine and rushes more air through the wick and flame It is very easy to let the lamp run away with itself and the flame get far too large.
@@Djdross K1 is fine. It only smells when you blow it out. I have also run std lamp oil and paraffin oil, they both work fine too, with no smell. K1 is 1/3 the price of lamp oil, though. Using a sharpie, mark your burner where you see flames coming threw the mantle. Using scissors, trim the wick a little at a time at those areas. Patience is key to getting a brighter mantle without sooting.
What a beautiful design. Like the coleman mantle but without the noise!
That was outstanding we could see every step from start to finish playing at the light nice and clear

Might need to clean your flame spreader really well
Brand new out of box, there is a tiny hole in the mantle though.

Did you let the wick soak for some time before lighting it?
How did you ruin the mantle?
@@Djdross Yes I did, it sounds to me that the mantle is uneven, I'll do it again.
Sounds to me only when I lower the wick one side of it is higher than the other one.I also thought about the inner mechanism.
@@jaquepaulo it could be I have heard of uneven wicks when I had my issue
I have alladdin lamp but dosen, t have cimney and mantle , what to do.... Advice please
Replace the chimney and mantle.
Try the Aladdin website, or if not that then a lamp Supply Company, or maybe even an antique store.
Simple buy a chimney and mantle and a new wick too
Be gentle with the mantle there very delicate
