Yay!! Just found this un my feed & look forward to trying these. I ADORE the accent !!! Tickles my ears ! Will keep an eye out for more of your delightful recipes. Much love from Australia.
I never realised it was caraway in Abernethy biscuits. I haven’t eaten them since I was a wee girl but I’d love some now after watching this lol. Thanks for another great video ❤
your absolutely briliant, you are making a lot of things that i had during my child hood that i never got the chance to get the recipes for, i went to collage for 4 years for cooking and baking and never got any of the recipes covered there so thank you
Lovely to see a Scottish recipe. I love when you do these. Reminds to get out my Scottish cookbooks for a wee look. Have one going back to the 1930s where the liquid measures were sometimes in gills and a hand of this and that.🏴🇺🇸
Hello Cheryl, I just finished watching your video and realized that the cookies you were making were the same as my Mom's Caraway cookies from when I was growing up. She always collected jars of seeds in the fall and used them in cakes and cookies, delicious with a cup of tea! I believe she may have learned the recipe from her mom, who was from England. I haven't had them in many years. I look forward to seeing more of your traditional recipes. Thanks for sharing. Julie
Golly. I find your new programs within minutes of you posting them, but no matter how fast I am, there are always others in this community who get their comments in first. These people who follow you are lightning fast !!!!!
Ohhhhhhhh My late husband (Aberdonian) used to talk about being at school and going up to unsuspecting people and saying "Say Abernethy biscuits th th th" And on the last 'th' smacking them under their chin to bite their tongue!!!!! Not allowed these days, like conkers!!!! 😂😂😂
Here in the USA this type of cream filled cookie is known as a whoopie pie. Except the cookie part is softer , mire cake like texture. Abernathy looks very good !!
If you are in the US and you want to get pasture-raised eggs like that, a good brand is called Happy Eggs. There are (here on the East Coast) also Helpful Hens. Those are the two that I've seen that are the best, although Trader Joe's are also very good. Of those three, Trader Joe's has the best price, they will be more expensive than regular eggs
@@LindaC616 hi Linda, because UK eggs are not washed, like in the USA and some other European counties, which can remove the natural bacteria protection of the shell UK eggs don't have to be refrigerated in shops and outlets. That gives them a healthy shelf life too. Also chicken meat here isn't washed in chlorine after processing. There is also a Happy Egg company in the UK that are Free Range reared. Regards DougT
You can buy golden yoked eggs in Scotland in most supermarkets. Most are free range but really not any better quality. It’s just the feed they use for the chickens that cause the colour and free range just means an extra few inches in a barn.
Ahem, caraway seeds are like cilantro. Some ppl like the taste, but others, like m, just can't bear the anise plus the taste of how Vicks Bali rub smells. Cilantro, to ppl like me, tastes like soap. However, I did find that, if there is plenty of lime involved, I can actually like cilantro!!! Zatarain's lime-cilantro rice was what made it happen for me!! Does anyone know of something that cuts the anise/Vicks taste? I suspect that orange alone doesn't do it. Many thanks in advance bc these cookies look wonderful. I know I could just leave out the carawa. But I am hoping that there is something that, together with caraway seeds actually makes them taste good!!!
@@LindaC616 thank you for answering and not thinking me a taste freak!! I am going to have to try it just to see how orange affects it. It could be that citrus is the ultimate neutralizer!! Appreciate it!!
@Smartmouthgamer23rd orange egg yolks are super fresh and should be well domed , if your egg yolk is very pale yellow and breaks when it hits the pan , then the egg is stale and you shouldn't use 😮
I was taught that the orange yolk versus the yellow yolk is the difference between pasture-raised chickens and chickens in a barn or a cage/grain fed. Since I was jealous of Cheryl's orange egg yolks every time I tuned in, I bought pasture-raised a few times, and according to which brand I buy, they are the same as Cheryl's. They're very dear on the side of the pond, though
Evening folks! A wee Scottish classic tonight 😊 going back to what I know best ❤ thanks for watching, liking and sharing ❤

Hello from Muscle Shoals, Alabama!! ❤ these look fantastic and I want to try them asap!! ❤
Mrs What’s For Tea is a complete sadist in the kitchen - she beats the eggs, whips the cream and batters the fish!
And you like to watch it! 😅
@@LindaC616🤭😆😂😂
Caraway, huh? That sounds very interesting, thank you
I'm absolutely going to make these this weekend!
You are so talented Cheryl! Everything you make looks and I bet aslo tastes better thanI could get in a restaurant ❤Simply perfect

Being a Dane, as I learn growing up, I been used to far more vegetables.
Although I'm so inspired by your recipe more than once. ❤
Caraway and orange is a flavor combo I’m not used to. I bet it’s great, though.
These look delicious

Hi Cheryl ❤
These look so good. I absolutely LOATHE caraway, tho... I'm going to use a bit of orange zest instead... 🤷♀️❣️
I love Abernathy biscuits..

Yummy! I shared to Facebook

Looks yummy.. Could you use cocoa powder to make a chocolate version?
Chocolate and orange...😋
Oooh that sounds lovely @LindaC616
Curious question, why are the egg yolks orange?
Because Cheryl is using quality eggs probably from outdoors reared chickens. Those egg yolks were perfect. Full of flavour and goodness.
Yes, indeed they are!@@douglasthompson296

Is it possible to replace lard with more butter? Just i can`t find this type of lard in markets in my country😔 Thank you!❤
Never knew that Scots add caraway in desserts very interesting what is the taste like?
What could I use instead of lard (vegetarian) please?
😋🍪
Cheryl my waistline has just suddenly expanded, i wonder why 😮

Maybe the orange does it? I can bake with caraway, and generally don't like licorice. Raw cilantro is awful for me, but cooked into a dish it's fine

@drdoloresmize5386 yw! We're not freaks! (Not for that reason, anyway!😛) let me know, I'd be chicken and leave it out 😄
Now my stomach is growling...
I thought Abernathy biscuits were named after a English doctor who made them as a digestive aid
