I saw this bird last summer at AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, it was an amazing airshow. The thunder from those RD-33 engines reverberates through your chest! Great performance and aerobatics, the G's must have been something to experience in the back seat! They did formation flying with a Mig-17 at the show too! The Mig-17's afterburner is quite unique with it's pulsing flame vs the Mig-29's smooth flame with thrust/mach diamonds extending outward.
I've been in love with the Mig-29 ever since I laid first eyes of pictures of her. I think that was back in 1985. What a dream to own one, but man the money for upkeep is insane.
Like an airborne supercar with weapons. Dazzlingly stylish, graceful and elegant shape, I always admired the MiG-29. It just looks like such FUN to fly one. Hard to believe it's just another machine designed for killing people! It's a weapon of war and nothing else. Still a cool machine though.

Most in-depth cockpit view on TH-cam, I always loved how they went with a grey cockpit instead of the traditional teal, gives it a much more sleek appearance.

You do know Don Kirlin's MIG-29 is airworthy right? He just never takes it out of its hangar except for the occasional maintenance workups. He used to own 2 but sold one which was later destroyed in a crash in Alaska I believe? Current one is in his hangar in Quincy, IL.
Saw it flying out of Fort Worth Alliance a few months ago, as I was leaving Cabela's, along with at least one Alpha Jet. Was curious what it was doing there.

The F-15's service record is legendary! The MiG-29 doesn't even come close.

But not at all in characteristics. Radars (For example, you can compare APG-63, 66 F-15, F-16 and N001 or N011M Su-27, Su-35. Or N019 Sapfir 29 for MiG-29) and missiles, if comparing between the USSR and Russia, they always did better. America still cannot build supersonic weapons, while Russia has been successfully using three of them in combat for a long time. It's hard to call it more reliable. The statistics are sad. Recently, another F-35 crashed. By the way, if we take the same F-35 that you call the 5th generation, but it can only maintain hypersonic speed in boost mode. Don't laugh... Expensive, yes. Better and more reliable - definitely no. Russian weapons like AKs are cheap, but they always shoot... And the overhyped patriots and abrams with all NATO did not cope with their task...

WZL-2 Panel is named after the company that invented and installed this upograte. Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze nr @ basically means "Miliotairy Aviation Works nr 2". Also Panel Below it is resposnible for recognising radar siugnatures of incoming missiles, planes and ground based radar stations.
The good thing about analog dials is they're readable at a glance but with digital whilst being precise require them to be 'read' costing 'time' = death.

I watch the acrobatic show Mig 29 every day. I didn't even know that tourists ride it. Then I found the MiGflug channel on TH-cam. It's crazy, the noise is unreal.
The inside of the cockpit is a clear indictaion of the 1970s Soviet design, and a clear case of why I prefer a two man ship to a single one. Give us an F14 any day !!!
Could it be possible for a US corporation to copy the entire design of the MiG-29 (or Su-27) and build them in house? Granted it would be expensive, but you could build your own parts and contract off the airframes as aggressors.
It’s possible, but the US has only suffered one air combat loss since Vietnam. Setting up an entire production line for a few op-for planes makes less sense than identifying something domestic with similar performance and using their tactics.
Nice video. Great plane. I had the opportunity to sit in the cockpit of the military version of the MiG-29 several times. In the video at 1:48 it says "radar control panel" ?? What kind of radar? As far as I know, the standard version, the military, MiG-29UB does not have a radar.
My understanding is that as a trainer aircraft they still needed all of the controls in order to learn how they would operate the radar in an aircraft that had one. There isn’t much documentation for the UB model of the aircraft but that would be my guess.

I think this is one of the Polish M-29s put up for auction for $1 dollar about fifteen or twenty years ago. I'd wonder the airframe hours on that thing
MiG-29 may not have the best record of all jets, but it was initially designed to be a part of air defense systems of Soviet Union. And exported variants were always cut down. Meaning that it always did fight in disadvantageous conditions. But all in all, it was a good plane, in very bad circumstances
This is the UB training model so it actually never had a radar. The radar controls in the cockpit are there so that pilots could train how to use them before going to the single seat models that were equipped with full radar sensors.
Russians HATE letting their pilots see outside. There was a version of the Mig-21 with so much added-on shit in the way of the already ridiculously small windows they put a periscope in so they could taxi, take off and land.
I was told it was deactivated during the demilitarization. It may still light up but I don’t think it can actually display any correct radar information.
No matter what: The Mig 29 is an incredibly beautiful plane. Thanks for this video.

Well, since it replaces the original EKRAN indicator, it must also be some kind of a system malfunction display.
