Two F-117s (and many other jets) Flying Low Level in the Sidewinder

- Here's a collection of some of my best moments from my time spotting on the Sidewinder Low Level. The F-117s are my favorite and I am very happy I was able to catch them out there. The F-117 video was taken on 4/21/2023, despite the F-117 being "retired" by the USAF.

The highlight of my life was serving as a crew chief on f-117’s, one day I walked into the hangar and saw my name on the nose wheel door, proudest feeling I ever had! Go Air Force!
That’s incredible! Sounds like an amazing experience. Thanks for your service.
I peed in the Bilge on 3 Ships, not my best days! Go Navy!
Total envy
Taking a power nap in the intake of an F35
When were you there? I was there from 2000-2004
The Night Hawk just has a presence that cannot be ignored. When they start deploying and showing up at an airbase you know things were starting to get very serious.
Definitely can't be ignored, especially when you fly the same flight path every night. 🇷🇸
Would have been a top notch video if not for the wind sound . Kind of ruins the video.
They do this stuff all the time 🤦 how else are they going to remain trained?
I think the F-117 is being "served" as a stealth trainer but I could be wrong
@@infinidominion Hey buddy are you alright?
AS an FYI, despite being retired from combat ops, a decent amount of the F-117 fleet is still being flown by the Air Force, and will be flown until at least 2034, maybe longer. They mostly fly them for research, testing, training, along with being used as red air aggressors and as a stand-in for stealth missiles during training ops.
......I was wondering why those things were even in the air....
@@poohead8022 Still a pretty decent stealth platform that is well ahead of most other countries
@@HicSvntDracones I thought the bosnians figured out how to shoot them down.....
@@poohead8022 it's so known because it was one time only and it was people's error, not the plane's fault. For so many missions and succesful raids it's a near impossible effectiveness.
Indeed! I was very surprised to learn that these puppies basically never actually "retired."
There are quite a few articles out there discussing this - fascinating read!
Great video, Nighthawk unmistakable as soon as you lay eyes on it. Sorry you had to put up with a hipster typing their novel on an Olivetti Lettera typewriter.
LOL!
Probably Tom Hanks.
Read what he says about the video.
@@redskyz483I knew it was a camera, was just a joke
@@falken_gt4 oops sorry 😀
I was really a fan of this aircraft. And I love the fact that they are still out there soaring through the sky. Great footage and a photos there. Oh how I wish I was there to witness these marvelous aircrafts of the century.
Check out the F 117 episode of the Fighter Pilot Podcast. Awesome stuff!
Amazing footage! The F-117, man... on one had it looks antiquated and at the same time futuristic.
The Nighthawk still looks amazing, style wise it fits right in with the F-22/F-35. A really unique looking airplane, wish DCS had a fully developed module of it, I would love to learn how everything works.
Was literally thinking this. It's a 4th gen jetm release the data already lol
It’s slow and flys like shit without a lot of computer assistance…That stealth though! 😂
Some of it might still be classified? When I saw it in the NMUSAF a few years ago it was butted up against a wall to hide the engines and exhaust, then just last year it was moved out a bit more, as if maybe they were permitted to display it fully now or something
you are not smart enough to learn how everything works bud.
@@goodbyemr.anderson5065 you don't have to be a genius to learn difficult things. Just a desire.
Awesome video and photos. It's so nice to see the F-117 still flying. How I wish the F-14 was still in service. There was nothing like it, you knew when a Tomcat was flying by.
US hard scratched the Tomcat, so Iran doesn't get it's parts. If it was never sold to Iran it would have probably still been in the reserve fleet.
@@niweshlekhak9646 spot on, the US is so smart and so fucking stupid at the same time
I thought the 117 was retired. The last time I saw one in the air was like June 2013 in Colorado.
@@AnthonytheAmericanIt’s in “inactive service” supposedly for stealth coating material testing. I thought the same thing too but researching it, it is being used again heavily, just not in “active” roles
Yes, the F-14 was a genuine fighter aircraft! I worked on the F-14A aircraft and avionics at the Norfolk Navy Depot from 1979 - 1994.
I spent 20 years watching these great planes fly…boy how I’ve missed them ❤
Some of the baddest birds on the planet! Thank you so much for sharing!
I agree! Thanks for the kind words :)
That second f117 was spicy. You love to see it. The plane doesn't look real somehow. It's incredible.
Still to this day, for some reason, I still love the F-16. Maybe because I am an 80's baby but I love that jet. Watched the movie Iron Eagle last night, typical cheesy 80's flick but still the best one and it brought back so many memories of that masterpiece of machinery.
Worked at TTR ‘90-‘92. Remarkable plane.
Great to see them flying again.
Not supposed to say that. ;-)
Absolutely amazing. I love military aviation!!!
Seeing an F-117 is an unbelievably rare occasion. Good catch!
That was so tight. Maybe the best lineup I’ve seen. Just fav after fav. Thanks for sharing brother 🙏🏼
I appreciate that! I'm glad you had a good time watching!
@@StinkJet As a huge nerd of this stuff, I was wondering why I haven’t seen your stuff pop up on my feed. So I checked out the channel I see you’ve just started on YT. As a huge supporter of all things fighter aviation, you’ve earned yourself a subscriber sir. Years from now, I’ll be referring to you as one of your “Day 1’s”. Keep up the great work and more will come. 🙏🏼
Thanks very much man! I appreciate it. Sorry I just figured out how to see replies to my comments haha. I appreciate the support! Hope to make more great content for everyone to enjoy.
The Nighthawk lives!
Amazing footage, not sure if it's just me but the f117s appear relatively quiet to me! Also the F16 is just such a sexy jet, even between the raptors and f15s
Man that F-16 was sleek. I came here for the F-117's but you're damn right the F-16 is so awesome. It seemed more nimble than any of the jets, even though the raptor is most likely more manoeuvrable.
Me too.
The F-117s are about as quiet as the F-16s at straight and level flight. Much more quiet than the F-22s and F-35s.
Yes and in many ways a better fighter/bomber!
I need more of these videos. This is one of my new favorite channels now.
Thank you! I'll put more out soon! I am still getting used to youtube, but I post a lot more on my Instagram :)
Awesome to see the F-117 still in use.
Excellent video, I really enjoyed it. Great to see the F-117, too.😎
The F117 is such a awesome looking jet and just a testament to the engineers who made the thing with slide rulers and 1st gen computers and its still flying many decades later with a lower RCS then many countries top stealth platforms. USA USA USA lol
Went to an airshow back in 95 or 96, sat in an F-111. Got to walk up and touch an F-16, Harrier, and a few others.
The F-117 had two guards with M-4's posted on either side of it with barriers around the perimeter preventing anyone from getting closer than about 50 feet. Was one of those "whoa" moments.
Same for me, except it was the B-2 Spirit. It was in a hangar with the doors opened but the entrance roped off with armed guards, back in the early 90s.
I had a similar experience I think even earlier at an air show. They actually had the armed guards and several Red signs saying Use of Deadly Force Authorized Beyond This Point.
Same here. They had guards and signs. Willow Grove Airbase when it was open and had awesome airshows.
If only they took such measures in protecting its stealth tech with the F-117 that was shot down. Understandable that it could be difficult and complex to recover an aircraft wreckage behind enemy lines, but they should have at least destroyed the wreckage.
@@dallasyap3064 china will soon be selling the clones on amazon because of that.
i like that F-18 in the all black paint job. reminds me of how cool those all black F-5s in Top Gun looked.
35+ years later and f117 still is the craziest thing in the sky. I live very close to Miramar and worked just across the freeway from the base for 20 years. We used to watch the air shows from the roof of our building. Never did see any F117s but a B2 did fly in a few times.
That’s amazing. It’s hard enough to catch raptors for most people but catching stealth fighters is absolutely amazing.
The F-22 Raptor is a lot stealthier than the F-117. Stealth technology had improved a lot between the two.
@@factChecker01
Definitely. I just meant that seeing an f117 flying anywhere, especially in broad daylight is very very rare.
Fwiw, bases that run F22s, like Langley in VA, run F22 training all day, every day over populated areas like Newport News, Hampton, and Virginia Beach. I've seen more F22s, often flying combat training in pairs against other jets, than almost any other military aircraft I've seen. They became so common, I tuned them out regularly, but if I was outside, I would always stop and watch them fly.
But F117s? I had no idea they still even flew them.
@@SALEENS7GTR5 I'm jealous. You're lucky to see the F-22s so often. The F-117s are officially retired but still fly occasionally. The flights are so rare that the ones in this video are mentioned on the F-117 Wikipedia page.
@@factChecker01 wow, so this is truly special siting, then
thanks for the great filming - lovely to see all those planes! also the great landscape
Great capture, well done!! 🇺🇸👍
The Wright brothers might had just piss in their pants if they saw this. 😮
Like everyone pissed theirs when they saw them at kittyhawk.
I believe #2 might be more in order here. ;-)
For those doubting the veracity of the Nighthawk sightings, Wikipedia is reporting that two F-117's are still being used for training purposes. Scroll down about halfway through the Wiki article to "Post-Retirement Sightings" for the write-up.
Thanks for posting. Didn’t know they were still flying any. Best Wishes
You seem to know what your talking about, I get they are still flying but to my knowledge they have been discontinued in like a war, I maybe wrong? B52 been flying for ever….my question to you is why where they suddenly stopped from active service? They seem to appear on the world stage and then just went ?
I saw one last year flying over NB San Diego. Super distinctive black wedge.
@@paul-ie6wiThey're retired from any combat roles, since the F-22 and F-35 can do anything the F-117 can do, better, plus a lot more. But they're still useful for research and training purposes, especially for radar and target acquisition. Probably some air interception, also. Basically playing the stealth adversary role. I feel like NASA might have one or two, as well.
@@PaulGuy thank you sir
F117 Nighthawk is 1970s technology, and still the sexiest beast flying.
So is the F-15, F-16, and F-18. The BUFF is 1950s tech.
Quite an interesting thought that this might one of, if not the highest fidelity video publicly available of a flying F-117
Great footage, thank you.
Impressive F-117 capture! I half expected the camera to pan from left to right, and to hear the engines, but see nothing 😉
I lived near an airbase in canada when I was young.. when I saw just over the house an f-117 some f-16 alot of f-18 but the most spectacular was A F-14 Tomcat moving is wing in a delta position just over me at about 500ft... I dont know if he saw me but he seams to head direcly in my direction and made a spectacular turn while puting his wing on a delta position when he was just over me😮😮😮😮
In 1994 I was guarding F-117s at Boca Chica Naval Air Station ( FL)
It's still nice to see the Night Hawk flying, despite their retirement. Those of us who were maintaining them at the end knew that it really wasn't the end for them. My question has always been, is tail number #809 still among those flying.
All the videos and pictures I've seen since they really started flying them more recently have yet to capture the tail numbers on the rudders.
809 is still flying :) She was one of the jets that put in an appearance last year at Duluth in Minnesota. Main identifier is blue chequered banding on the fin top (whereas the others are either red cheques or a light grey F-117 silhouette similar to the one worn by the 49th FW flagship). 809 has “Hulk” on the L/H canopy rail. The other Duluth jets were (if I recall right) 811 “Double Down” and (spare) 828 “Air Rage”.
The F 117 is a beautiful throw back to the past nice video nice medley
Me and my brother were sitting in a pool right next to Miramar in 1999 when two came right over head. They were flying about 150 200 Ft off the ground and basically in a glide. Couldn't hear them until we saw their shadows. They were three to four jet lengths apart from each other, very close. Ace pilots no doubt. Sneaky and deadly. My Aunt lived in the trailer park butted up to Miramar. Could watch the Blue Angels practice almost every time you went there.
Amazing. Thanks.
I love seeing all of those epic jets flying!
Awesome. Video of the year thus far
Thank you so much for shooting and uploading at 60FPS. Subscribed for more!!!
I appreciate the kind words! More coming soon :)
fanatstic footage great to see the Knight Hawks are still active i first saw one fly at Raf Mildenhall Airfete 1992,i always remember waliking around it in the static park it was out of this world abs Skunk Works genius
That F-117 looks like an obsidian arrowhead point ! Almost 👽
I could watch that all night
That looks like the were conducting RCS tests. Several of the same plane at different heights, and lots of different planes.
Nighthawk still looks amazing even in the 5th Gen fighter era.
Good stuff! Nighthawks AND a BUFF!!!! I camp at Dome Rock a few times a year, have hiked out to the Needles a couple times. Great airshow on weekdays! Even some night flying.
Awesome video and photos and lots of different planes 👌🏼.
Gr from the Netherlands 🙋🏼♂.
I worked out at Holloman when the F117s were there. Always loved watching them while I ate lunch. The F117 "retired" about like a Hollywood celebrity who is "giving up acting." I am glad. I love this plane. Where are they stationed these days?
Back at Tonopah! Awesome story! Jealous you got to spend some time with them!
At TTR. Their original home.
Wow crazy, 40 years later two of the aircraft I worked on are still flying. F-117A and B-52z although I worked on G models not H models. Brings back a lot of great memories.
I have never seen a smoother pan in my life.
I try 😁
Gotta love the howl of the B-52
Love the video, awesome footage!
My favorite is the F22 Raptor and while it wasn't in this particular video, the B2 Spirit and the B1-b aka the Bone (b-one)
The F-35 is growing on me.. especially once the technical refresh (tr3) and block 4 upgrades are done on it, the situational awareness is unreal.
it was in the video! twice.
Even after working on 117's for a few years they still blow my mind. Ooooold jet but looks like it was designed yesterday.....until you get up close and realize it's a mut of a jet.
Thankyou for this superb reel!
Dudes....that was Awesome
Really cool!
Super fantastic
New paint and canopy design and by the sound new power plant it looks like looking baby 😊
Thanks for sharing. Awesome vid.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing! the B52 Whistle sounds so cool! I'm surprised how loud the F-117 was but then again being 'stealth' doesn't necessarily mean audibly so. The Super Hornet Sounded great!
They are surprisingly quiet from below..at least for a jet. By way of example, the comparison to the Hornet is pretty apt, as they essentially have the same engines, when the Hornet isn't in afterburner.
What a fkn score! Those Nighthawks are such a work of art. Great to see them back in the air! What a video! They really put on a show for you.
I got very lucky! Glad I happened to be there at the right time and place! Very talented pilots as well! :) thanks for the kind words.
Awesome video in 4K of those jets flying low amongst the mountains.
Pretty cool to see that old warbird still being utilized, but as aggressors.
Its so cool, i can zoom in using my app. Your HD videos let me see everything on the crafts. Amazing!
One of the coolest videos ive ever seen
great job
This really was a treat to watch, and especially some of those liveries; though it sucks the Vandy liveries cant display the Playboy Bunny anymore. It feels like that those liveries are incomplete without them.
Excellent work!
Wow... Just amazing!
Badass that the 117 is still flying! And what a sight to catch it.
Eagles, Raptors, Nighthawks, Hornets, dude where are you living!? 😁👍 Awesome video, thank you.
Awesome!
1:45 damn near invisible head on! My old AF buddy joked about the Goblins basically drive in low and slow and say "surprise". lol
My grandfather flew the stealth fighter when it was still super classified. Will always love that aircraft.
What an awesome spot to watch these flights.
Brilliant footage , great dark background , stills are good as well !
F-117 still beautiful after so many decades. Glad they still have some airworthy although it's been officially retired.
Wow! What a treat! Had no idea they were still flying them..
That's gotta be a rare sight..
I live about 4 miles from pine castle bombing range in ocala national forest and i can hear all the jets sometimes and warthogs brappping but very rarely see them because of the trees. Had about 40 helicopters fly overhead at night about 250 ft about 2 months ago which was cool because they had the lights on inside the helicopters and you can see everything inside. Wish i had your views tho
Amazing video of great planes love it...!!!
Very nice! Quite a collection, those F-117s though👀
The F16 looks beautiful and sounds like thunderstorm
There was so much cool in this video. I loved how you finished with the fist of the fleet. That was perfect! Subbed 👊🏾🤘🏾
Thanks man!

So awesome to see the 'wobblin' gobblin' flying again!
Stinkin' rad footage, you 'got there.
I am espetially glad to see the "grandfather" of stealth in flight.
They really look like UFOs from afar. :D
AWESOME!!!!
