I was really a fan of this aircraft. And I love the fact that they are still out there soaring through the sky. Great footage and a photos there. Oh how I wish I was there to witness these marvelous aircrafts of the century.
35+ years later and f117 still is the craziest thing in the sky. I live very close to Miramar and worked just across the freeway from the base for 20 years. We used to watch the air shows from the roof of our building. Never did see any F117s but a B2 did fly in a few times.

The Nighthawk still looks amazing, style wise it fits right in with the F-22/F-35. A really unique looking airplane, wish DCS had a fully developed module of it, I would love to learn how everything works.
Some of it might still be classified? When I saw it in the NMUSAF a few years ago it was butted up against a wall to hide the engines and exhaust, then just last year it was moved out a bit more, as if maybe they were permitted to display it fully now or something
AS an FYI, despite being retired from combat ops, a decent amount of the F-117 fleet is still being flown by the Air Force, and will be flown until at least 2034, maybe longer. They mostly fly them for research, testing, training, along with being used as red air aggressors and as a stand-in for stealth missiles during training ops.
@@poohead8022 it's so known because it was one time only and it was people's error, not the plane's fault. For so many missions and succesful raids it's a near impossible effectiveness.

Still to this day, for some reason, I still love the F-16. Maybe because I am an 80's baby but I love that jet. Watched the movie Iron Eagle last night, typical cheesy 80's flick but still the best one and it brought back so many memories of that masterpiece of machinery.
Fwiw, bases that run F22s, like Langley in VA, run F22 training all day, every day over populated areas like Newport News, Hampton, and Virginia Beach. I've seen more F22s, often flying combat training in pairs against other jets, than almost any other military aircraft I've seen. They became so common, I tuned them out regularly, but if I was outside, I would always stop and watch them fly. But F117s? I had no idea they still even flew them.

The F117 is such a awesome looking jet and just a testament to the engineers who made the thing with slide rulers and 1st gen computers and its still flying many decades later with a lower RCS then many countries top stealth platforms. USA USA USA lol
Went to an airshow back in 95 or 96, sat in an F-111. Got to walk up and touch an F-16, Harrier, and a few others. The F-117 had two guards with M-4's posted on either side of it with barriers around the perimeter preventing anyone from getting closer than about 50 feet. Was one of those "whoa" moments.
Same for me, except it was the B-2 Spirit. It was in a hangar with the doors opened but the entrance roped off with armed guards, back in the early 90s.
I had a similar experience I think even earlier at an air show. They actually had the armed guards and several Red signs saying Use of Deadly Force Authorized Beyond This Point.
If only they took such measures in protecting its stealth tech with the F-117 that was shot down. Understandable that it could be difficult and complex to recover an aircraft wreckage behind enemy lines, but they should have at least destroyed the wreckage.
Amazing footage, not sure if it's just me but the f117s appear relatively quiet to me! Also the F16 is just such a sexy jet, even between the raptors and f15s
Man that F-16 was sleek. I came here for the F-117's but you're damn right the F-16 is so awesome. It seemed more nimble than any of the jets, even though the raptor is most likely more manoeuvrable.
When I watch these videos. I am extremely humbled that I am a U.S.A citizen. And the power of God Almighty, Seriously. The location and planes give me a deep sense of gratitude. May God continue to bless you.
For those doubting the veracity of the Nighthawk sightings, Wikipedia is reporting that two F-117's are still being used for training purposes. Scroll down about halfway through the Wiki article to "Post-Retirement Sightings" for the write-up.
You seem to know what your talking about, I get they are still flying but to my knowledge they have been discontinued in like a war, I maybe wrong? B52 been flying for ever….my question to you is why where they suddenly stopped from active service? They seem to appear on the world stage and then just went ?
@@paul-ie6wiThey're retired from any combat roles, since the F-22 and F-35 can do anything the F-117 can do, better, plus a lot more. But they're still useful for research and training purposes, especially for radar and target acquisition. Probably some air interception, also. Basically playing the stealth adversary role. I feel like NASA might have one or two, as well.
I lived near an airbase in canada when I was young.. when I saw just over the house an f-117 some f-16 alot of f-18 but the most spectacular was A F-14 Tomcat moving is wing in a delta position just over me at about 500ft... I dont know if he saw me but he seams to head direcly in my direction and made a spectacular turn while puting his wing on a delta position when he was just over me😮😮😮😮
Wow crazy, 40 years later two of the aircraft I worked on are still flying. F-117A and B-52z although I worked on G models not H models. Brings back a lot of great memories.
It's still nice to see the Night Hawk flying, despite their retirement. Those of us who were maintaining them at the end knew that it really wasn't the end for them. My question has always been, is tail number #809 still among those flying. All the videos and pictures I've seen since they really started flying them more recently have yet to capture the tail numbers on the rudders.
809 is still flying :) She was one of the jets that put in an appearance last year at Duluth in Minnesota. Main identifier is blue chequered banding on the fin top (whereas the others are either red cheques or a light grey F-117 silhouette similar to the one worn by the 49th FW flagship). 809 has “Hulk” on the L/H canopy rail. The other Duluth jets were (if I recall right) 811 “Double Down” and (spare) 828 “Air Rage”.
It was a treat to see all the special prototype versions of skunk works aircraft with all the orange wires and single digit tail numbers in the original p80 hanger together a very very special moment few get to experience god bless the USA 🇺🇸
Amazing! the B52 Whistle sounds so cool! I'm surprised how loud the F-117 was but then again being 'stealth' doesn't necessarily mean audibly so. The Super Hornet Sounded great!
They are surprisingly quiet from below..at least for a jet. By way of example, the comparison to the Hornet is pretty apt, as they essentially have the same engines, when the Hornet isn't in afterburner.

I remember back in the 1980s when I saw the F-4J, the F-4S, and the F-14 Tomcats dressed up in the "Black Bunny" VANDY paint scheme. Those were some good times!!!
Hike to The Needles east of Ponderosa. You can watch the airplanes fly right overhead. You can see the Needles @2:31 directly above the second 117, and the first in the distance turning towards them. Another easily accessible place to watch aircraft is on top of Dome Rock, a few miles south of Ponderosa. Mid-week best. Was there in June and it was pretty busy. Bring binnoculars.
May I ask where this wonderful place is located? IS this a weekly or monthly fight pattern or do you have to know someone in the know? Being retired USAF and living near DM, I get to watch A-10's all day long. Still one of the coolest jets every made..

Funny how you can see the Nighthawk only when it's right above you... I think those things would fly a great deal of years in frontline if one was not shoot down in Serbia - opening the door to the bad guys to peeking up its secrets. Amazing machine, indeed.
Good stuff! Nighthawks AND a BUFF!!!! I camp at Dome Rock a few times a year, have hiked out to the Needles a couple times. Great airshow on weekdays! Even some night flying.
Me and my brother were sitting in a pool right next to Miramar in 1999 when two came right over head. They were flying about 150 200 Ft off the ground and basically in a glide. Couldn't hear them until we saw their shadows. They were three to four jet lengths apart from each other, very close. Ace pilots no doubt. Sneaky and deadly. My Aunt lived in the trailer park butted up to Miramar. Could watch the Blue Angels practice almost every time you went there.

The F-22 Raptor is a lot stealthier than the F-117. Stealth technology had improved a lot between the two.

The F-117s are about as quiet as the F-16s at straight and level flight. Much more quiet than the F-22s and F-35s.

I saw one last year flying over NB San Diego. Super distinctive black wedge.

Because of the F-117A we now have the F-22 and F-35s. It was the first to open that door.
