Maybe I'm cheap; but I cannot believe you have to buy an option for a 360 camera in a $60k+ vehicle. A Hyundai Elantra has one for god's sake. It feels less like an optional upgrade and more like nickel and diming

My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV.
Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered.
    Pros:
    * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC.
    * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable.
    *
    Cons:
    * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system.
    * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience.
    * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years.
    * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality.
    * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels.
    * Leather quality across all trims is subpar.
    * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg.
    * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience.
    * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power.
    * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: th-cam.com/video/NMzD7nLQlDY/w-d-xo.html
I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities.
Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed.
It appears that TH-cam influencers may be sponsored by Toyota and Lexus, with many Toyota dealers hyping these vehicles on social media to attract buyers.
This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline.
Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology.
At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $85k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough.
Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, many individuals are compensated for endorsing Toyota and Lexus brands, and I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles.
In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase

I saw the GX550 at the Chicago auto show and spent at least a solid 10 minutes checking out the interior and exterior. I own a 22 GX460. The interior felt like a massive downgrade. More like a Toyota interior. There was nothing Lexus about it. Hard pass for me!

    • @beyondhometown
      @beyondhometown 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@Odat Same experiences they just did copy paste of Toyota interior. In fact some of the Toyota interior is much better than this. Imagine if you have to buy this and forcefully like it just for the sake of badge and price another 6 years to cope up with depreciation And other companies running around with high tech, luxurious for this price. Simple cheap tricks and low qualities they have delivered. I was shocked that for high trim you have to add another $1.5 for premium sound as well + heads up display $1000 and list goes on. Can’t imagine update after so many years and came up with this.

I understand there are things that people may not like how there is no wireless charging, no fog lights, no electronic 3rd row, and memory seats (Correct me if i'm wrong) but those hardly bother me since i don't even use those stuff but in a mass market perspective it could be a game changer. For some reason, it just doesn't appeal to me very much. It looks like its supposed to compete with the G class from MB but in trying to do that it looks like Toyota has kind of lost the plot. I'm not exactly sure for what they were really going for as the vehicle is rather basic and I suppose its alright compared to the G class, but it doesn't have a V8 and it is kind of an eyesore. It reminds me of a Japanese import rather than a modern brand new vehicle. It looks like they took the Land Cruise and the LX460, combined them and added too many chromosomes, then mixed in the Land Rover Discovery, none of which is a complement in the slightest. It seems as if Toyota have decided against their own philosophy of car design.

Had an older GX460 back in 2012. It was reliable, horrible milage, 30 year old engine, the plastic was bad, the fridge door was awkward, the infotainment was outdated and laggy.
It seems nothing has changed. Overpriced, ugly over designed Toyota, outdated interior design. Lexus still think they are reliable and have a right penny pick you for 360 camera etc. Since then I had range rover autobiography and supercharged, and well as GV80 prestige. And was looking at this with curiosity, but it's still a huge, inefficient, overpriced Toyota, that is not even Japan build anymore. And the infotainment and navigation is straight from 2016.

Hideous dashboard. Looks like they took one out of a 80’s car and jammed a bunch of screens in. Why can’t we get a car with European styling and Japanese reliability?

Because then all the whiners would say that Lexus was being a copycat of Mercedes or BMW I mean a lot of people will find a lot of things to complain about no matter what smh

..my X5 (not even $70k) has M adaptive sus...or air sus as an option
even Grand Cherokee has air sus. now a day...
but Lexus, u got to get the top trim to have the adaptive suspension....that's just sad...
and basic sunroof for a car that's priced over $64k...for real??

Unless you live in the middle of trail, make over 150k with fewer than two dependents, no mortgage or debt, what is the point of buying such expensive car…. Other than feeding ego is the top priority in your life.

First owners will lease it, then buyers will take it on in 3 -4 years.
