    I think when Andre was between 25 - 28 years old he would have been a handful for anyone to fight. He was strong enough to lift automobiles off the ground and was agile too. He picked up 230 lb dudes like I pick up my tomcat. I can't imagine what it would be like if he just drilled someone upside the head with that strength and a fist as large as hulk hands. I, as a musician met Andre back in the spring of 1978, at a hotel bar. That night, he was a gentle, polite, warm guy to spend time with. I enjoyed talking with him, as I did Arnold Skaaland, Bob Backlund, Johnny Rodz, Haystacks, to name a few over the couple of months working there. The downtown Baltimore Holiday Inn where I was working, and where the guys stayed, was across the street from the arena.

    • @wdilks
      @wdilks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ...to continue: The bar was on the basement floor, one floor below the lobby via ballroom stairs. One night, the elevator was not working. As Haystacks left the bar walking down the hallway toward the stairs to get up to the lobby, I heard him mutter, "Oh...these damned stairs again". And I of course understood why.

I’m surprise his face doesn’t look like Swiss cheese with as many times as he bladed in his career. This guy would bleed in every match and it would be everywhere. He would obviously do anything to make people believe that professional wrestling was real. There's two ways you can also look at Kamala and his passing.
    70 year old is a bit less than average expected lifespan for average people... But wrestlers are not average people.
    A pro wrestler making it to 70 is equivalent to an average person living to 90.
    So thinking about that makes the hurt of his loss not sting quite as bad. He had quite a good amount of years, and an extraordinary life.

    Very interesting story... Bad News Brown/Bad News Allen told the same story of Andre making Racial Slurs on a Bus when they were having a Run in Japan.. And Bad News being a Judo Champion confronted Andre the next day before they got on the bus outside the hotel.. And told Giant Andre he didn't like what he was saying, and that he better cut it out or they are going to have a problem.. And he Never had another problem after with the racial comments...

    I never knew Andre was like that. When he babysitted me backstage. He was a kind gentleman. He might of just loved kids but I never had an issue with Andre.

      Yes when I was a kid he was our gardener for a few years and he was always really nice. I called him Andre the Violet and he often brought me Snickers.

      @Frank Burjan Wrestlers probably talked to Andre about it. Inoki fought Ali. He knew pro wrestlers couldn't beat martial artists.

    Harris was a good guy, and Andre always struck me as the sort of dude that you had to -earn- his respect. Was it kind of A-holish an outlook? Yeah, but he was one of the biggest names in the industry, at a certain point you can start demanding people show you that they're worth respecting.
