He wasn't that gentle at all actually. He's done some shit. Once he flipped a car over after getting road rage. If he disliked a wrestler, he would beat the shit out of him in the ring. He was a rough dude.

    • @g13n79

He didn't flip a car because of road rage. He flipped the car of a bunch of drunk Frat Boys who were throwing cans of beer at his head and mocking him.

@@g13n79 he flipped the care because people were being insanely rude in a restaurant. But he had some guys he just didn’t like for this reason or that. Randy Savage, Jake the Snake, Big John Stud, the Iron Shiek, and apparently the Ultimate Warrior. He was human. But imagine living like that nothing is built to accommodate you in travel or hotels even the toilets. I imagine that would be even more challenging in Japan a guy like that they really should have made some custom arrangements. Imagine having to use the bath tube as the toilet it had to be a very annoying thing to deal with and the few times he went after someone it really was because they usually were being very disrespectful.

I met André Ferré around that time. He was very nice. A gentle giant. I was working at the reception of a Motel in Rimouski Qc. Once a week there was a wrestling event at the arena. Most of the wrestlers were staying at our place. The first time i saw him he was sitting on the back seat of a convertible cadillac driven by his good friend Edouard Carpentier. Sometimes he slept on the floor beside the bed. When he was in the lobby it felt like we were in a doll house. When he walked in the dining room, everybody stopped eating. When he shook your hand it was embarrassing lol. He could drink 100 cans of beer in a day.

"He was a quiet man.... a (wrestling) craftsman."
The older I get, the more I like and admire Andre Roussimoff. It's not just the wrestling skill-set and spectacle which was extraordinary. The guy just went about his business, made his living, lived life to the fullest and never screwed anybody over. Later you learn that some of the wrestling legends you grew up with were not good people behind the scenes. Andre is one of my absolute favourites. Check out his biography "The 8th Wonder of the World" that two Frenchmen did on him. It's really great.

Hats off to Don Lane. This is probably one of the best interviews I’ve seen with André in a while. No rapid-fire questions about shoe size or weight or any of that. He’s treated with the utmost respect and care here, and you can tell how comfortable André feels just by how frankly he talks to Mr. Lane. At some points, it sounds like he’s just having a conversation with an old friend. He’s given plenty of time to collect his thoughts and comes up with some very insightful, personal answers. I’m sure this was, in part, some great emotional therapy for him. Good stuff.
