Kamala was absolutely terrifying when I was a kid and when I watch him in this shoot interview my mind is blow to see how soft his voice is lol ... GOD BLESS Kamala !!!

Could have sworn Kamala said he was having $12,000, $10,000 and $8,000 weeks!! That was his Run then his run was over. If you go back to look at him on the end of his run you could see he couldn’t go anymore. Kamala wasn’t a great worker for a big guy. And he has problems with his legs with circulation and serious diabetes. He had his leg amputated because of this! How was he a victim? He was a character and a heel who did not talk. He was limited and needed the right opponent to bump for him. Ask him what he was making in Memphis? Before WWF…… $800 - $1,000 a week? Maybe 1,500 payday for a big show at an arena in Memphis 5,000-7,000 was good in that market! Go check it with Lawler and Andy Kaufman. Lawler says that was the biggest crowds they ever had. Vince gave Kamala his biggest paydays of his life! People were paying to see Hogan vs Anybody! They were paying to see Hogan, Savage, Piper…. Stop with the victim bs. 10k to 12k weeks in the 80’s? That’s like 30k today!
James "Kamala" Harris was such a great talent. He deserved so much more. If you needed a monster to go up against your top babyface he was your guy and no one would question why he was in the main event. His gimmick was so believable and he used it to perfection.
And he got ripped off big time by Vince McMahon!

Kamala never drew a dime! He was a decent short feud for the good guys but he could never hold a belt.
He understood he was a midcarder at best and he wasn’t expecting superstar pay. Vince still could’ve done better by him and other wrestlers who put their bodies on the line.

We never saw Kamala here on Australian TV but I do remember seeing him in wrestling magazines and wrestling cards. He scared me as a 10-12 year old because of the blood he'd always have on his face. I loved wrestling between wrestlemania 1-4 and always thought Kamala was with another promotion

If you're averaging let's say 3k a night, 30 nights a year, that's 90k just for working with Hogan! He made 12k, and 10k, 7k, 5k in 4 weeks. Thats 34 grand in 4 weeks in the early 80's!
He complains about being underpaid. How did he blow through that amount of money so quickly? Lots of guys who fought Hogan made that much. Once he lost, he would go lower down the card. He keeps telling a bullshit story that Taker made half a million while he made 13 grand. That is a lie. If you google SS 91 payouts, Hogan, Savage, and Warrior made 75 grand. That is with a higher PPV buy rate. He says he saw Patterson's book. It was probably 50 grand. He cries that he made 13 grand which is good money for a mid-card guy who wrestled for five minutes.
Kamala and Mr Wonderful are very noticeable absentees from WM3, especially as for the year building up to WM3, both had done big business with Hogan. Imagine Studd leaving probably put a end to the planned Studd-Bundy match, and Bundy got Hillbilly Jim, as the Hillbilly Jim and midgets match would have fitted more with Kamala than Bundy I always felt.

Should have been Bundy vs Kamala. They actually faced each other at a few house shows around that time. Rare heel vs heel match would have been great. Orndorff said he was "hurtin" and that's why he wasn't at Mania 3. He actually stuck around for the Ken Patera whipping angle then took time off and came back as a face to feud with the debuting Rick Rude.

I think that race may have played a part (like it has in other situations), but only to a small, yet significant degree....
*We're* also very familiar with Vince's demeanor towards most folk that aren't simply on his "fave's" list (listening to wrestling podcasts from ~2009~15)
I really believe that his body/physique held him back from staying around as a big name til the Mid-Late90s!!!!
It is of no secrecy that Vince loves guys the more jacked and the more ripped the bodies get- it is a show ('work') after all.... Vince/company could've also been worried about his internal health and conditioning- over time- had they kept him on the roster as a major draw!!!!

As big of an attraction as Andre the Giant in my opinion. Entertaining as hell....No way they could get away with that gimmick today, and I'm guessing that's why he's not in the Hall of Fame. In 1986 I made $22,000 working my butt off as a carpet layer. Now my back is shot but I saved 5% of all the money I made for 30 years. Not Rich but not broke. The WWF financial planners should have meet with everyone (jobber up to Hogan) once a year. Then at least they could have said "we told you to save your money cause everyone retires early".

Kamala was a great big guy in the ring, quick like a cat, can get high in the air for a good aerial attack. The gimmick was awesome and he was a great guy. Vince's armpits should be infested with a thousand fleas for doing Kamala wrong.
