The hammer is such a cathartic weapon. It's hard to get in with due to the commitment frames for each attack, and the range means you'll be outspaced in most situations, but when the monster gets stunned and you just get to pound all of your irritation and anger into its forehead using a weapon made of its bones, HOO BOY
The number one reason why I gravitated towards the hammer was because of all the times the monster that kept hitting me back to back with no chance for me to evade and not letting me play the game. With the hammer, I can pay them back in full.
hammer main here, don't know how many people know of this here, but there's an areal tactic called "ledge hopping", when you jump off a ledge, you start charging your hammer, then you can do a double jump back on the ledge with a cheap little mounting swing, when you find yourself in an ideal scenario you'll deal more damage than the hill spin attack, especially if you're rocking airborne, witch is a solid 30% damage buff to your sky strikes.
You can even jump off, switch back and then switch forward again to hit a monster in front of you, but still landing back on the ledge to do it again. Its hilariously strong.
As a hammer main being able to clutch claw right after any level 2 or 3 charge is great it gives the hammer a bit more reach with is one of its main weaknesses and its one of the few weapons were the clutch claw is a natural part of the weapons flow
It's the only weapon that coordinates well with the clutch claw along with lance. If hammer was already a lot of fun in base world, now it's 10 times better!
A useful attack, if you're fast enough after staggering a monster where it drools from it's mouth briefly, is to level 2 charge the head -> grapple combo to the head for an easy tenderize.
Don't forget to grab any crystal burst, piercing pods and stagger nuts you can find ! when you charge your hammer you can use a slinger burst which flinches the monster and in most cases it will turn to you so you can release that sweet BBB+ clutch combo right into the head! also a bomb pod will dish out 200 dmg per slinger burst which often results into flinches too but not as good as the other. dragon pods burst will act like floating bombs which deal around 150dmg extra. thats why i love to hunt together with a sns main just imagine all the flinches you'll deal with the bursts !
As a Hammer user, the Airborne skill plus a ledge is your best friend! 30% increase to attack power, ledge hop attack is easy to do and you can get easy mounts with it!
Let tell you something. When you join a part farming group and you walk in with a Hammer with Part Breaker, glitter and confetti releases in the hearts of all the hunters present.
This is the only weapon I haven't tried. Going to have to give it a shot after this. I loved your HH series and look forward to seeing more of your content. Thanks a lot!
Never used the hammer in over 300 hours, yesterday I crafted the rajang one and fell so much in love with it that I did 44 hunts with it in less than 2 days.
Definitely one of the most useful weapons both for solo and coop hunting. Huge amounts of damage, K.O.s galore, whole body tenderized and mounts like a freakin' rodeo. Hammer is the best!
I became a Hammer main by the end of base MHW, just before Iceborne. I always been a sucker for axes, so I saw that awesome Val Hazak "Hammer" and decided to try It. It was love at the first wall spinning/ledge hop spamming/Big bang. When I bought Iceborne, spinning like a Helicopter after a succesfull lvl 3 charge to the Head Clutch claw combo was the icing on the cake. And now with Safi, we can use Willian Birkin's arm as a weapon. Hope we get some RE2 layered armor soon.
Thank you for posting a video about my favorite weapon in the game. I've been playing since Tri and I've been smashing faces in ever since. It's such an endlessly fun weapon to play with, and the satisfaction from a well timed golf swing swatting a rathalos out of the sky is unquantifiable. As people have already suggested, Airborne gives those spinny spins some extra oomph, and Affinity Slider is a must for going on the slip-n-slide. One of my favorite aspects of the Hammer in World/Iceborne is the directional influence in the air. Being able to change direction midair when charging after hopping off of a ledge leads to some wacky crazy shit, not to mention ez mounts and hella good damage. My favorite place to be is on a ledge or at the top of the hill, cause Aerial Hammer lives on
One of the best things about the spinning air move for the hammer is that once youve hit the ground, you can immediately go into another big swing move for extra dmg!
Finally. Appreciation for us Hammer mains Absolutely nothing more satisfying than amplifying your own brute strength The comparison is usually "The Hammer and the Scalpel" but people tend to glance over the fact that this blunt instrument also requires precision Grab your inertia sticks and send those nails home, my friends
I picked up the hammer weapon and never looked back since. Just BAM BAM BAM to kingdom come. Thanks for making this great video. Keep it up. Subscribed and liked! :D PS: And shared!
I JUST recently got into CR and D&D! Wish I would've started playing much much earlier in life but I've already had incredible experiences. Love em both! 😁 Glad you enjoy! :)
Slugger 5, partbreaker 3 and weaknesses exploit 3. That is the recipe for beautiful disasters. The frostfang armor is a godsend before you get too fatalis armor.
It is! I run slugger 5 from frostfang and 2 piece of MR vaal hazek for that super Regen coupled with medicine jewels. You can easily strug off lesser hits and 1 mega potion with 30% more healing is good enough to get you back into the fight
Airborne is an amazing skill to include on hammer. If, while sliding, you press X/jump, you can bring down ur hammer in a timed charged aerial smash downwards instead of the spin. When using airborn, well, it destroys faces. I actually have a video knocking safi jiiva out of his nova with a hammer. When mounting with the hammer, instead of a final attack like most weapons to knock down the monster, you can HOLD the attack button to charge your hammer up to three levels and then SMASH in the monster yo knock em down. Maybe I missed it,but i didnt see much of the big bang combo which is ur best dps when monster is knocked down and you have the time. You would press O on ps4 to bring down ur hammer in an overhead strike. If you hit, you can continue thr combo until a final massive slam. You can also work into the combo with the one used in the video. Basically level1 charge plus attack button, after the second strike switch to big bang attack. The combo above though is better for its KO values, while big bang does better dps on downed monsters. Hammer main here. 🥰
It's true that big bang is your best dps option, but for it to be effective you have to be sure you can ensure the last hit. If you know you don't have enough time to get all the combo I'd recommend going for a charge level 3 attack maybe followed by clutch claw. Abusing big bang can be dangerous!
Big Bang is quite situational but yeah very bad that it wasn't mentioned in the video all tutorial videos mention Big Bang and how situational it is and sure this isn't a tutorial but it should go without question that Big Bang deserves a mention
Love this weapon. LS main, but for as slow as the hammer is in comparison, i fell in love with it. The clutch claw finisher after lvl 3 overhead attack is a heavy hitter

I like to go Max Comf for my hammer sets, namely max Earplugs and Slugger. Makes roars a huge opening for big big stuns. Crit Slide is really fun too but hyper situational. Honestly, i see Hammer more as something like Crowd Control over straight damage. You do big enough snd consistent enough damage that i prefer to focus on KOs and Paralysis. It means my team gets more damage in because it holds still longer and it helps when i'm playing with new people.
Personally the most fun I've had with hammer was using Focus 3 and Evade Window 5. Over the past few days I've made about 4 new hammer sets, and I love how flexible it is
Just recently I picked up the hammer and I found it to be one of the best weapons for punishing a monster's whiff. Pulverizing Punisher is a well-deserved name-- once a Rathian or something does its tail whip, I know exactly where that head is going to end up. Because the monster misses, I can punish it by: 1) comboing into golf swing if it was close enough and the monster is wide open 2) having a level 2 charge ready to close the distance between me and its face for a quick hit if the opening is small 3) level 3 charge on its face if I'm close enough where option 2 would be inefficient. Then dodge out, observe the monster again, wait for the next opening, and repeat. The hammer has this great feeling of busting heads open due to reading and punishing monsters, and I love it.
When I started MHP2G, I went with HBG coz of its comfiness. Boy was I addicted to hammer when I went to G-Rank. Bashing monsters' heads in while they're writhing on the ground? That's so stress-relieving. Now Hammers have flashy moves and anti-air capabilities, I can't be any more happier with this weapon
You can do the somersault attack by just charge running directly into special walls. You only need to be holding the trigger and you just go right in to the move. The root walls in the arena and elsewhere and the mushroom walls etc. You can aim yourself in a different direction as you jump off the wall, too. I use it by having my back to one of the walls. Then I hold charge and when the monster is close enough I aim the camera at it and just run backwards into the wall then hold up and you'll go towards the monster. If you don't need to aim you just press down on the stick and that's it. Carnage ensues.
Hey now come Advanced CB user body shots are just fine your Phials either go down or spread across the monster don't interrupt the Hammer user from KOing the monster even if you have impact phials
I Love this Kind of Prasentation. It make me to change my Main Weapon After Every single clip. After almost 300hrs into this Game, i cant decide which will be my Main.
hello dude, i found recently when searching for some hh builds and i fell in absolute love with your channel. Youre doing an amazing job and what you do is inspiring, keep up the amazing work and if you ever come to pc lets doot together
I've been nailing monsters since day one of picking up MHW. One good tactic that i've seen a lot of speed runners use is the ledge hop n smack when you don't have a hill to slide down. #hammer4life
It may be unorthodox but I'm always running a support build with hammer. Max gobbler and wide range, with a side of satiated. Worked wonders keeping people alive in the last stage of kulve.
I am a hammer main and I approve this message 👍 The other day someone was trying to bad-talk hammer to me by going “ugh just a braindead unga-bunga weapon” and all it made me want to do is shout “UNGA-BUNGA, MOTHERF*****” to monsters now.
I generally go for Crit Eye 7, Crit Boost 3, Weakness Exploit 3, Focus 3, Health Boost 3, Speed Eating 3, Earplugs 5, Affinity Sliding, Airborne, and since I'm using the Lightbreak Hammer, Blast Attack 4.
Still love hammer in this game, but I was going back to the older games recently and realized how much more I loved hammer before World. The sole reason for this is the move where you charge your hammer until you sheathe it or get hit. It feels unnecessary and redundant. It feels like it's just an extra step I have to take to get to the power that it's always had until now. That being said, the Screw Attack from a hill and the clutch claw attacks do feel great and I still love the weapon... just slightly less than before.
I got back into world recently after taking a break from Elden ring and I picked up hammer for an actual decent length of time and I can easily Big Bang flinch Diablos charge and get multiple KO's on Teo. Worried how Kush is gonna go but I'm about to try it
I main long sword but do play with hammer every now and again. I picked it up late in MHW along with IG and have a blast using them both. I had to restart the whole game recently cause my save file was corrupted or something so i haven’t play with hammer as much as of yet but I’m working on making a few hammers to use.
Slugger from a min maxer’s perspective: it rarely gives you an extra KO, so it’s rarely extra DPS. If it does run it, obviously. The other main reason to run Slugger is for scripting. There’s a generic script against Elders you can do for example, with Slugger 1. Wall bang > Charged Big Bang > CC Soften causing a KO.
Might not always have time for it. Your positioning and distance from the monster can vary after flinch shot knockdowns, stuns, mounts, etc.... so the amount of time it takes you to close the distance will affect how much DPS time you really have. Some monsters get up faster than the full time for Big Bang as well (Diablos, for example). In those cases it's usually better to perform some variation of a charge release into followup and combo ending in upswing, or now a level 3 Brutal Big Bang into Clutch Claw combo or flinch shot.
For the moment, I'm loving the Hammer as a sub weapon for when I'm tired of Guard Lancing, and the Guild Palace weapons in PC were a godsend since I can make a good Hammer, and get to R12 with high damage quickly. Also, I use Slugger 5 to great success. Not gonna care what others say, but I just wanna KO as much as possible. Eventually I'll go to the meta DPS set where damage can go really high, but a Diablos set is just beautiful as a starting set for fledgling Hammer users. It's a good breath of fresh air to just take a break after a long time guard lancing through Iceborne and Guiding Lands, in preparation to inevitably farm Teostra, B. Tigrex, and Garuga for the meta set in the future. ^^

Also, stop making me want to try every weapons, I can only farm so many materials
It absolutely is! Huge CR fan lol.
But I can't do that man! I gotta spread the word 😂
Worried how Kush is gonna go but I'm about to try it
BIG BANG when yoy knock down a monster !! such satisfaction !!!!
Hammer is love, hammer is life
If you clutch claw right after landing your spinning slide attack, you'll do the charge mount attack. Double the spinning!!
I love the hammer too, and would even say I main it but...is it bad that I think using the hammer is a bit easier than any other weapon?
You're not alone. I'm just not a fan of it
I'm not very good with Hammer...
*but I love it.*
Why you do Ruiner Nergigante like that bro?
One day id like to see a green orc lookin hammer main. I would know that dude is a true hammer bro.
When a monster is down, you should only use the full big bang combo 100% of the time
Might not always have time for it. Your positioning and distance from the monster can vary after flinch shot knockdowns, stuns, mounts, etc.... so the amount of time it takes you to close the distance will affect how much DPS time you really have. Some monsters get up faster than the full time for Big Bang as well (Diablos, for example). In those cases it's usually better to perform some variation of a charge release into followup and combo ending in upswing, or now a level 3 Brutal Big Bang into Clutch Claw combo or flinch shot.
greatsword for life
For the moment, I'm loving the Hammer as a sub weapon for when I'm tired of Guard Lancing, and the Guild Palace weapons in PC were a godsend since I can make a good Hammer, and get to R12 with high damage quickly. ^^
Don't forget the ledge abuse. Roll of ledge, jump back with attack, repeat, repeat, repeat...
Sick intro
Dat double bass tho❤️
