@@Freedom-kl8rt Monster Hunter never makes you feel like you are "left behind", so I would say it is ALWAYS a great time to jump in. One of the most helpful and welcoming communities in all of gaming.
"Side note, hold down the sprint button to speed up this opening book animation" After 800 hours not knowing this, all i have to say is YOU ABSOLUTE GOD!!
"I have 500 hours, he could not tell me anything I don't already know" You can open your menu and change the view distance to far and get a better view of the monster "YOU CAN WHAT?"
Hey so is MHW still pretty active? I absolutely loved it, but had to leave the country for work and haven't been able to play since a few months after launch. I had a greatsword character. They still pretty good?
Some tips i can give: - Your radial menu settings are tied to your item loadouts. - Monsters will drop 3 red pods based on how low their hp is. 1st(30%), 2nd(20%), 3rd(10%). Monsters can be captured at 25% health and lower, so when the 2nd pod is dropped it's a guaranteed capture. Pods dropped from clutch claw attacks do not count. - You can actually use tranq bombs before traps to capture. Tranq bomb effects linger for about a minute. - Enraged monsters(monster icon glowing red in minimap) will unrelentingly chase you everywhere until they are not enraged anymore. Scary, but this can be useful in certain cases where you want to lure them to a specific area where you can trigger environmental hazards(like falling rocks in ancient forest) to bring them down. - Turn off auto-sheathe in settings. - Slinger ammo can be fired while mounting. The damage contributes to the threshold for when the monster is ready for a mounting finisher. - Using the ping on your radial menu while stunned will alert your palico to help you out. Results may vary due to wonky cat A.I. - In Iceborne there is a new option in settings to turn on a silhouette of your hunter when a monster is in front of you blocking the camera. There's so many little things that the game does not tell you that I would say it's recommended to ask questions and look up guides.
Side note with monster health captures it's not always the same for every monster, eg Deviljjo needs to be around 10% if not a maybe a bit lower. Weaker monsters are around 30-35%
I’m sure someone mentioned this. But once you reach the rotten vale and already encountered Odogaron. You can then go on a expedition and try to encounter it again but hope for the monster to have a dead Legiana with it. It will drag it back to its den. You will see a wild cat (can’t spell it’s native name) anyways it will run and you will have to follow. Then once you follow it to where it’s going, you can lure it back from its hiding spot with a piece of raw meat. Put it down and a group of feral cats will dance around it and thank you. Then you will receive the Palico tool called plunderblade! In Icebourne, each palico tools can level to 15 and each has an additional support skill. Plunderblades is the tool which jumps on the monster and repeats a carving motion which drops lucrative scales that can be sold for money. A very good way to make millions when you’re fighting high end monsters. Hope this helps. Edit: excuse the typos! Late edit: Max rank for your feline friend is lvl 20.
I feel it should also be said that meta in MH is only something you need to care about if you want speed run times, but even then you're only looking to save about 3 or 4 minutes for the average player. just play however you want, experiment and have fun
@@jamesheld5658 Well I agree with the part about playing what you want, but if you want to farm more efficiently and have a whole team to set up builds that support each other. Like my sets for HH that are especially for bow/DB where my item set contains dash juice , steaks etc and my HH ether has stamina use reduction L or evade up movement speed up.
I started world with a bunch of friends, they settled upon rushing and get to iceborne. Looking back I am so happy I didn’t use the defender set, going through the process of painstakingly farming monsters was pretty fun. Iceborne might be fun but what comes before doesn’t fall short either, don’t rush it.
Some additional tips from the top of my head: - Nulberries nullify blights (water/fire/blast/thunder) - Lifepowder item heals all members in the hunting party within visible distance (all hunters must be in the same area) - Do not shoot a flashpod while a Monster is being mounted by another hunter. Especially, a flying one. - Cutting/Slicing weapons (Longsword/Dual blades/Greatsword etc.) - focus on the Monster's tail or legs (to trip it down). - Blunt/KO inducing weapons (Hammer/Hunting Horn etc.) - aim for the head. - While sleeping, its better to Clutch claw to the Monster's face and unload all of your Slinger ammo to KO force it into a wall (if the Monster is close to a wall) rather than the "Sleep-bomb" technique. - Cold drinks - carry in the Volcanic/Wasteland regions to prevent your Health depletion. - Hot drinks - carry in the Tundra/Snowy region to prevent your Stamina depletion. - Pressing Options button skips the eating food animation and cutscenes - You can shoot SOS signal to have hunters join your quest (sometimes not the brightest decision) - Monster Hunter has one of the best gaming communities so if you need help - ask! ~Happy Hunting to all the new hunters!
Lol this make me remember In MHGen/MHGU there are HotBlooded and ColdBlooded Skill, they increase your atk when you drink hot drink in hot area, and cold drink in cold are
Focus more on self-preservation then damage output. Seen too many new players swinging wildly at a monster and getting carted immediately. You can't deal damage from camp, so avoid carting at all costs.
Best skills for those having trouble staying alive: Stun Resist 3 - Stuns are basically a death sentence. Most common cause of death in my experience. Speed Eating 2 - Getting hit again before/while you drink a health potion is the second most common cause of death. Health Boost 2 to 3 - This turns some oneshot deaths into twoshots, which you can recover from with Speed Eating.
@@warmonk82 I'm not buying it. Bazel would have run away long before you got to kill it if you were using low-rank weapons. Exactly what weapon did you use?
Never knew seeing the skulls on the minimap was related to research level! That explains why sometimes me and my friends don't see them when the others do.
Current monster research levels are shown with yellow bars on the bottom left of the map screen. The bar has to be completely full for the skulls to show up. Gather the tracks! When the monster changes zone your scoutflies come back out, so doing research should be another step alongside the usual resharpening, healing, rebuffing, etc.
I just started last week. Started with defender gear but found I wasn't learning and adapting as much as I wanted to, cause I wasn't getting punished for mistakes. Switched to default gear and it's WAY more fun! Learned alot from this video, thanks!
You can hit triangle or Y in your stash to sell all trade in items for quick cash. There’s a prompt for it at the bottom. Unless you’re using a GS, use the clutch claw into a wall bang for a stronger wake up if you place the bombshell on the wall, plus it downs the monster.
@@darkdaysahead01 I'm not conferable using a controller since I been PC gaming over 6 years now. What I'm saying is I don't know what is Y button for keyboard. That is why i mentioned PC
@@TheDragonfriday OK, well, I said there's a button prompt for the action at the bottom of the screen, so just look there and it will tell you what to press.
@@darkdaysahead01 ah ok that good to know, I'll look into it. I know using the keyboard is wierd, took me little while to get used to it. I probably haven't fully used all the keys yet like the shortcut wheel. I just found out to pull that out 1 hour ago.
Some tips that I’ve acquired (PC player here, but likely applicable to PS4 as well): - At the provisions center, when you sell items, you don’t have to search for your trade-in items (the items that have no use outside of being sold). On PC, by default pressing R allows you to automatically sell all of your trade-in items at once. According to 5:37, it happens to be the triangle key for PS4. - On PC if you want to skip routine dialogue (for example, from the Handler or the Botanical Research Center), you can press Esc to skip to their last line of dialogue, which brings down the number of prompts you need to tap through to 2. Minor boost in convenience. Not certain if there’s a button for this on PS4. - At the Steamworks in Seliana (which you unlock early on into the Iceborne campaign), when you “Help the Steamworks”, you’ll get a prompt to “Auto-convert” items into fuel. Always accept this, as the items you convert on this particular screen can only be used as Steamworks fuel. This is not to be confused with the “Add Fuel” screen, which allows you to convert otherwise useful ores into fuel as well. - Multiplayer hunting etiquette. Performing attacks that hit other players won’t directly damage them, but could cause them to “flinch” and make them helpless. So be careful not to hit your teammates (this is especially true for me as a dual blades main). Typically you want blunt attacking folks like hammers to hit the head for KO’s, and severing attacking folks (anything that’s a blade) to try to cut off the monster’s tail (most monsters’ tails are severable). You can also upgrade the flinch free skill to prevent yourself from getting flinched by other players. I’ll keep updating this if I remember other stuff
I'm an MR 999 lance main with almost 2k hours, but I watched the entire thing. Great vid, totally gonna send this to my friends when they start the game.
As a returning player (over 2 years of absence) for over a month now and I really missed this game and fell in love with it all over again, finally got to try all the DLC and most events (are the special events now permanent?) that I missed out on. Here’s a few tips for newer players: Play the game however you please too. It’s simple really theirs many optional builds you can try and yes try all the weapons! You do not need to stick to one main weapon, some are really fun, some take time to master. I have 4 different weapons I tend to use. Make sure you loot everything (unless you wanna attempt challenge runs). Probably the number one rule because you need loot to upgrade, craft items etc. Do not rush the game! I have 2 accounts one for my solo and one with friends and my friends all rushed the game and we’ve hit master rank with no farming, just basically going from boss to boss. And if you’re playing for story (honestly it ain’t that interesting to me) then yeah that’s fine but if you wanna play more tactical then farming is required especially on later weapons and equipment. Farming through investigation. If you’re planning on farming then do it through investigations, not through expeditions. Bosses drop more loot this way or small animals depending what you’re after. Take your time and have fun! Honestly paste yourself slowly through the game, get to know the area and environments. It’s a beautiful game to look at as well. You’ll learn what to bring and what to leave at base the more you know about the maps. Always look up guides online, theirs information about loot, each bosses. Research everything as well because even I didn’t know you can get random boss drops by researching tracks! Have fun guys!
Same here, about to start and eberytime I start a new game its great to see how much affort is put into those videos because often games doesn't explain themselves enough
Just wanted to say this is a very well put together video for new players. Been flicking through a bunch to pass onto my new Christmas hunter friends (so much misinformation out there) and this is definitely one I'll be sharing.
Because hunting horn(HH) is the most beloved teammate but the less played in the MH world. If you're a HH everyone will love you and you'll be accepted into any party. However. you also need to stock up on itens for healing since you're basically a buffer/healer guy with tremendous damage and knockout when played correctly.
Tip: don't eat just the chefs choice platter before a hunt. Use ingredients that give you attack up (L). You'll lose out on health, but to offset it all you have to do is cultivate the ingredients to make max potions in the garden, then pop one before each fight to max out your health bar. Cultivate 4 things; bitterbug, blue mushroom, honey, and mandragora. Combine bitterbug and blue mushroom to make nutrients, then the nutrients and honey to make mega nutrients, and then combine the mega nutrients and mandragora to make max potions. Keep a steady supply of all 4 and you'll never want for healing at the beginning of or during a hunt, and you can eat food that gives you an attack boost. BONUS: you can bring mega nutrients and mandragora along with you on a hunt and set them to auto craft more max potions, so instead of having only 2, you can craft a few more while in the field.
I just started playing and knew there was something to these mega nutrients and searching the food list for biggest damage bonus. I made 2 max potions my first day playing and now I know I'm on the right track, thank you.
@@thegoblin3629 np man glad you're getting into it. I don't know what ingredients are in my go-to meal offhand but there's a dozen videos on the subject. Check out a video and go after the quests that give you the ingredients. Another tip for you for when you get into the really tough hunts; when you've got a decent supply of max potion ingredients, start cultivating might berries and the stuff needed to make demon drug and demon powder. Take might berries, demon drug and powder with you on hunts and pop em all before you start a fight, these along with your food bonus all stack, and will max out the damage you can get from buffs ahead of a fight.
I wish they didn't put the defender stuff in. I just got the game yesterday and I got to the first time you go on an expedition. I was just kind of exploring and that Anjanath monster attacked me. The game told me multiple times to run away. But I wanted to see if I could beat it. It took me FOREVER because I'm still a noob, but I killed it with the defender Lance because it was barely able to even hurt me. The defender gear makes everything so easy. I didn't realize until just now when watching this video that it wasn't originally in the game.
Jesse James Smith yeah it’s only useful if you want to breeze through world to get to the expansion quickly, but personally o wouldn’t recommend using it, maybe the weapons but the armour is too op, you don’t get to experience of fighting tough monsters and having to dodge attacks, master rank is gonna be extra difficult for people wo are used to a lower difficulty
I started playing MHW about 2 weeks ago. The first time I went after Anjanath I carted 3 times and wiped and was horribly flustered. Then I carted 2 more times with Fortify and just barely got him down to zero before I lost to tilt.
One thing I learned: Always carry flashpods when facing monster that are VERY keen on staying in the air for some free knockdowns. Also do NOT neglect the botanical gardens, it is an amazing source of materials!
Although this is still a useful tip, flash pods got a nerf in Master Rank. There is a pretty hefty cooldown before they will work on the same monster twice.
Also, when you're comfortable with your money situation, do your best to buy 9999 of everything you can from a hub vendor during a festival. Everything but Power/Armor charms will be half off, so you can stock up on potions, trap tools and ammo to the absolute maximum. I do this almost every fest... just one less thing to worry about, and you can save a ton of cash/cultivation time. Like buy 10k spread 1 ammo, 10k gunpowder 2, 10k gunpowder 3. Then craft all the spread 3 you can, up to 10k. Buy gunpowder 3 to 10k again. Buy spread 1 to 10k again, and craft spread 2 to 10k. Then buy gunpowder 2 to 10k again. Finally, buy spread 1 to 10k again, and you now have 9999 spread 1, 2 and 3. That's enough ammo to last months, considering you also have 9999 gunpowder 2/3 to make even more spread ammos. If you use guns with any kind of frequency, festivals should be your call to refill all your ammunition.
To add to this, I do have something to say on my perception of the Guardian/Defender items. The devs reasoning is for you to basically "blast" your way to Master Rank. While this is good I think overall for the game, I don't think this one aspect of catching up covers everything. Blasting through low and hard rank is gonna leave you shallow on decorations. You've got to remember that MH players farmed HR Temp Elders for MONTHS before Iceborne and master rank came to be. Blasting your way past all of that is going to leave you low on rare/useful deco's. You also may miss a lot of tools/mantles. On top of that, many of the weapon trees don't offer a base MR model...you'd still have to go back and farm some LR and HR monsters to get started on some weapon trees. Basically you still have to go back and catch up in some fashion or another so the Defender items don't really just allow you to catch up through their power alone.
Started the game a couple days ago. Just got to the Pukei-Pukei quest. MH:Rise was my first full MH experience (I tried getting on older versions in DS/3DS, and couldn't get the hold of it). I really love how MH has a tutorial for basically everything, and you have all the info at hand for the monsters once you've researched it enough. I've still got to get the hang of the clutch claw, but I hope to get better at it for that sweet wall damage lol. Thanks for the tips!
5:32 you can go to your item box and choose sell items, there's a button to sell all useless trade items (mostly those mats drop by bandit mantle and Kulve Taroth)
Bonus tip: Not all quests can be found in the bounty board. Best example is that every single region (PC player here, so I am unsure if Hoarfrost is an exception) has a native tribe of grimalkynes. After your second visit or so, you should be able to find a researcher in the region with a ! on the minimap. Talking to him will send you on a quest to study the tribes, which will give you things like new opportunities in the field and tools for your palico. Important to note, the quests are pretty much unmarked. You can get confused quite fast if you just click through what the researcher says, without reading any of it.
New to this game, downloading it while I'm watching this, I was unsure of how popular it would still be, seems to be very active! thanks for the guide, I'm sure I'll be back to refer to different parts as I go through the adventure
Ur gonna have so much fun. It's an RPG where instead of leveling up with XP, you level up by getting rare materials and using better armor and weapons. What weapon do you think you'll use?
Dale Adney i just finished that game with my buddy and it was my first monster hunter game ever. such a great game. The co-op system made me extremely mad but now that were through the story i have no issues with it. The insect glaive is my go to. I feel like a godly monk just bouncing around and also being able to fly up with wyverns is cool. This game is just cool and i wish i played it when i dropped.
I’m a pretty new player with only about 60 hours but yesterday I just realized that when out on a hunt you can open your map and fast travel to a camp of your choosing, very handy for getting around quickly! Great video! Thanks for the tips!
If you have defense down you can eat adamant seed to remove it. A lot of players I’ve played with haven’t done this so I’m just letting you guys know just in case.
1. Pick the weapon you like most (the most comfortable for you), not the best one (the one you watched on youtube) 2. Get some rest after a few hours playing. 3. You'll die a lot, sometimes in the most ridiculous way, get used to it, it's totally normal. 4. Don't skip Grandma cat cooking animation, it could make your stress disappear.
One Tip i'd add for new players is pay attention to the environments. Some areas have breakable environment parts like boulder drops and these deal good damage and also make the monster fall, leaving them open for attacks. (:
Just started to play this game. This video has helped me get my head around a few things. Think im a little late to the game as there dont seem to be many people on here to help with sos flares or group with on missions.
I just started a week ago, working through the base game now with my switch axe. That and the hammer are my favorites so far. Feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m having fun and this video helped!
Kind of a late post, but it is important to know the difference in rolls between sharp and blunt weapons. One is great for breaking faces, and armor, and the such, while sharp/bladed weapons are good for removing tails. And how some useful drops can only regularly be acquired through breaking certain parts
gonna have to watch this about 9 more times before I understand it. This game is way complicated....for no reason. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
I'm a brand new player and love the defender armor and weapons! Just killed Pukei-Pukei. This was kind of a lot of information but I'll definitely refer back to it many times.
Great video! I played MHW for a month or so when it came out and then left it for something else. Just recently I'd been seeing videos about Iceborne and decided to get back into it and this video has taught me a lot I didn't know and helped me get back up to speed. Thank you!
I just started playing this after having it "not click" with me when I bought it on release. Personally, I LOVE the Defender stuff. It makes the game's initial "wall of entry" feel much more manageable and allows you to have more fun before you start to look for the challenge.
I'm a returning player that played the first month of ps4 launch that has moved to PC. This was really helpful in learning some of the changes that have come in the last two years. I think a video that concentrates more on these changes would help others like myself.
So the biggest draw to me is geralt, witcher 3 is my favorite game, this game has a crossover and is focused on rpg and moster killing, thing is, where do i jump in? Should i buy the game? Is there a version where i can get the game and iceborn? I want to jump in but feel like i’ll be missing out if i dont buy the “right” version if you get me
Both is an option. Due to the release beeing so close Id just recommed getting the bundle since its cheaper afaik. Also: Take your time. Iceborne is nice, yes. But so is World so dont rush to the expansion. Youll hit the grind soon enough
Nuka cola Lover For the base game you can get a Gerald cosmetic armor set after finishing the main story w/ a short mission including him, and it is the second best armor to drachen. It’s a good game to have in your collection, but depends what kinda RPGs you like though.
Another tips to know if your monster is weak enough for capture is to notice if they start dropping pierce pod (the red slinger ammo). This gets complicated when you factor in the clutch claw but generally, if they drop them naturally, they are close to death.
I only used it to blast through low rank on my new character (Beaten the main story like six times now on secondary characters while doing everything on my main). Once you get to high rank, it's obsolete almost immediately. Yes, it has good skills, but you are gonna wanna get mix sets for master rank.
I knew about you from the plagiarism thing but I didn’t really watch your content. Very informative, very direct, and lots personality. I liked the patching in the human hand jokes
I have played the game for many, many hours, however do very much believe in always trying to find out new things to help even veterans improve and I want to say this video was amazing! So many smaller things I had no idea about like the item box load outs. Thank you for the info.
Defender gear has been a timesaver. I recently lost my saved data on PS4 (it was my fault) and have been rushing through the og campaign so I can finally play Iceborne!!!
I really enjoyed the video .I just started about 1 week and a half ago and im very hooked on the gameplay. All of these tips were awesom and the comments below were sooo helpful.Thank you for the video.
Really glad you mentioned the mantle recharge tip, I see so many players just leaving it on constantly, like you said it just cuts the recharge time by a ton!
Do the loadout saving for armor also remember the decorations? E.g. if you use chest item with +attack gem, but switch it with +critical eye for another loadout, will it also swap the decorations appropriately?
THANK YOU! My friend has been trying to get me to play monster hunter world and it was on sale recently so I started playing yesterday and now I wonder why I didn’t start sooner! Your videos have extremely helpful to me! They have taught me a lot of tips!
DONT USE THE GUARDIAN EQUIPMENT!!!!! There is NO RUSH going through the base game, and youll get to master rank not knowing how to craft gear correctly or how to navigate the weapon crafting trees, if you go through the game ONLY doing the main story missions and nothing else, youll have no canteen food, no mantles, no resource centre materials, barely ANY essential items such as mega potions or max potions (Unless you are willing to spend several hours at the Seliana mini game to get basic stuff) no materials needed to create 80% of the weapons in the game because you didnt stop to fight the lower tier monsters more than once, and you wont have any different palico equipment like the plunder blade or the meowlotov cocktail. Long story short, the Low rank and High rank stuff IS the game, why rush it? thats like going into an MMO for the first time and just spamming the same two random dungeons repeatedly and completely neglecting EVERYTHING else until maximum level just because you wanted to experience the end game content. If you rush the main story, youll be insanely gimped and be pathetically weak as a player by the time you hit master rank, sure you might hit stuff hard and have good gear, but youll be an inexperienced little scrublet that understands less than the bare basic things that everyone should know, a person that doesnt know how to use healing potions and just let their cats heal them with Vigor Wasps (Yes...those players exist, too many in fact, dont be one of them.)
100% agree. If monster hunter world is your first monster hunter, then avoid the defender armor and weapon. The essence of the game is the loop to kill monsters and craft grear. Master rank is just the last loop. Another tip is to play through the game solo or with a group of friends who are equally skilled at first. Don't get "carried", killing monsters-- especially new monster where you don't know their pattern-- is the core experience ... don't cheat yourself out of that monster hunter experience. Screaming about capcom's secret desire sensor is a monster hunter rite of passage.
@@jackrabbit1704 You say that, but ive seen things that would shock you :P trust me, most people will ALWAYS take the easy route if its available, they wont bother grinding monsters for armour sets, they wont bother with the optional stuff, and they wont learn extremely basic things that most of us take for granted. Ive seen people not upgrade their equipment and they are fighting AT monsters, not knowing to bring mega potions to hunts, not knowing how their weapons function like not knowing to gather kinsect extracts, and if they do then they FIRE the extract at the monster and wait a million years for the kinsect to gather it for them, or people not knowing about investigations so they grind monster parts from the normal optional hunts. My favourite kind of person are the kind that slowly run face first at monsters with their weapons drawn when they have almost no health, then they die once, and either immediately leave the hunt, or they wonder where their cats are, because they havent done multiplayer before and dont know that their cats arent there to auto-heal them, so they face roll stuff, and this is in END GAME high rank, they somehow got to end game high rank, not using mega potions, and havent developed the common sense to back off from a monster when at low health and drinking a healing potion, something that is not only basic in Monster Hunter, but in practically ANY game, so if they cant get that right, goodness knows what else they have neglected. The Guardian Equipment WILL encourage bad behaviour like this, with a super tanky armour set with a weapon that you need not use any other weapon from any tree, meaning you dont need to grind anything in the base game, i guarantee we will see triple the amount of inexperienced players on PC in the end game content, best we can do is help them, or laugh at them....or hell, even applaud them for getting as far as they did playing the way they do xD With over 5mill players on PC, you are bound to find bad players, but another million going through the game using this gear? oof, its gonna be a wild ride.
@@Laoruperteen18 1 million people going through the game with the same gear is better than 0 people going through the game with the same gear, it's their game that they bought. They'll take it as seriously as they want to, nothing in that will change whether they're long-term players or not.
@@jackrabbit1704 you are basically saying that diversity is a bad thing :P people can play how they want, sure, but the irony is that their playstyle and mindsets are all influenced in the same way simply by using tanky equipment, and if everyone does the same thing, they will behave the same, effectively turning them into gaming clones, and as such promotes a watered down experience, meaning the players are ignorant to what the game REALLY offers, and yet they dont find that experience because it literally offers them overpowered equipment right at the start of the game, and turning them into squishy sheep by the time the shit hits the fan late game, and they will have to go back and learn all the things they SHOULDVE learned playing the game normally. Single player, its not such a big deal, people can do what they like, but this game encourages you to play with friends and other people, so when we get those sheep in master rank, we ALL suffer for it, we dont need more bad players clogging up our lobbies than their already are, im all for helping new players, but when you have people that have played for hundreds of hours yet they dont know how their weapons or items work? thats a nono from me im afraid, kiddy gloves are off on the tutorials.
With one exception, I found this video to be extremely helpful! The one thing I didn't understand was the bit about the "monster wall bounce." I didn't know you could force them to rotate, nor that you could apparently "launch your entire slinger payload" at once. I didn't understand how to do either of those things from your explanation. Everything else made perfect sense and was very useful. Thanks again :)
All are clutch claw additions from Iceborne. I suggest to try the tutorial and then you will be showed all mechanics and you can practice in training room! Good luck!
@@lebro4401 well it's going to ruin low rank and high rank for them, be because they are going to have to limit their playstyle if they go into iceborne. Or get their ass handed to them because they rushed through the base game and still don't know what the hell they are doing with their weapons of choice. I keep seeing defender boobs not using only axe mode without charging while welding the charge blade, LS players just mashing away without even knowing of the foresight slash, because the necessity never arose to actually read the hunter notes or improve themselves, since they could just take a beating from anything that isn't a tempered elder dragon. That armour and those weapons just foster selfish hunters that don't look out for their team, nor understand basic mechanics like: sleep, staggering teammates or triggering their guardpoints/ wasting their stamina because they can't stop spamming with dual blades while there's a Lance/GL/ CB next to them. Positioning and knowing what their job is in a team.
The Black Baron I solo’d the behemoth in defender armor, not because it’s op like drachen, but because why not. People can use whatever they want to play the game, it’s not the skill or gear that makes a new player but the mindset. People can use whatever they want, if it ruins your day then that’s a community problem
I started playing this game almost 2 weeks ago and I have to admit that this video is literally THE BEST updated newbie guide I've found yet. Thank you!!
Not sure if I’d be considered a noob or a veteran to MH, since I did get into MH fairly recently (within the last year), but didn’t get into it through World. I just got World today after getting to HR break in Gen U. I also played a bit of 4U before that. So I’m not a complete newbie but certainly not a pro either. That’s nice that they gave new players good armor sets to power through the game. Makes me feel like I might actually be able to catch up.
Series vet here, but just got into Iceborne and I found so many good tips I didn't realize I could do, like sorting your item bar (thank gooood!) or speeding up the quest selection menu (you're a legend!) Thanks for the great info!
Thank you for this refresher. I’ve played through PC MHW and loved it. But I haven’t played it for 6 months.(ty capcom for that brilliant decision *sarcasm*) now I’m beginning to remember everything and will be a little less rusty come iceborne PC.
Just got into the game and this was probably the best video I've seen so far. Super informative without making me feel lost or overwhelmed! Will definitely be watching this again to absorb more of it as I progress, thanks!
*This is a safe haven for gamers who value game mechanics and systems, because that’s what makes anything from 8-bit to 8k, equally enjoyable.*
*Thanks for taking out some time to watch my stuff! I appreciate that!* - Alex
Try sharing this with a friend or two that you are trying to bring into Monster Hunter, maybe this will make it seem less daunting.
Also, a big WELCOME to all the new PC players coming in to Iceborne this month! Have fun!
Boomstick Gaming yo mate, returning vet here, this definitely gave me lovely information on how the game advanced so thanks for the info ;)
This is a pretty good collection of tips! May I recommend you add time stamps to each section, in the video description; for players who want to review certain sections of this video?
There's a easier way to sell all trade in items. Go to item box, sell items hit hot button to sell all trade-in items
I plan to start this game after I invested 2 thousand hours in destiny.. I wonder if it's to late????
@@Freedom-kl8rt Monster Hunter never makes you feel like you are "left behind", so I would say it is ALWAYS a great time to jump in. One of the most helpful and welcoming communities in all of gaming.

"I have 500 hours, he could not tell me anything I don't already know"
You can open your menu and change the view distance to far and get a better view of the monster
"YOU CAN WHAT?"
I have 550 - and my heart nearly stopped while hearing this xD. The customizable Itembar was also uknown to me - used radial menu all the time.
I’ve been playing MH for 15 years and they keep adding cool new stuff. I just wish it took me longer than 12 hours to finish one now
Exactly
Hey so is MHW still pretty active? I absolutely loved it, but had to leave the country for work and haven't been able to play since a few months after launch. I had a greatsword character. They still pretty good?
I have 1,000 hours some of it i dont even know 🤣
Some tips i can give:
- Your radial menu settings are tied to your item loadouts.
@@leemo142 ooh good to know. nice info
Why auto sheath?
I have 1000 hours in this game and I actually didn't know a few of these.
Whats wrong with auto sheating?
Thank you for taking the time to explain the lucrative affects of using a plunderbade on the palico
Rompelstaump glad I can be a little helpful to those who needs a hand in the money business of monster hunter!

Don't rush through the story. Don't aim the meta until you're in love with the game. It'll make everything stale.
Carbot Animations Infestor :3
yeah
I feel it should also be said that meta in MH is only something you need to care about if you want speed run times, but even then you're only looking to save about 3 or 4 minutes for the average player. just play however you want, experiment and have fun
@@jamesheld5658 Well I agree with the part about playing what you want, but if you want to farm more efficiently and have a whole team to set up builds that support each other. Like my sets for HH that are especially for bow/DB where my item set contains dash juice , steaks etc and my HH ether has stamina use reduction L or evade up movement speed up.
This is honestly the truth for every game
I started world with a bunch of friends, they settled upon rushing and get to iceborne. Looking back I am so happy I didn’t use the defender set, going through the process of painstakingly farming monsters was pretty fun. Iceborne might be fun but what comes before doesn’t fall short either, don’t rush it.
Honestly I think that's the way I want to go to is not diving in with the new armor I've never played the game so we'll see
Yeah, it also teaches you waay more about not dying/carting too. The defender set will teach you some really bad habits.
Some additional tips from the top of my head:
- Nulberries nullify blights (water/fire/blast/thunder)
- Lifepowder item heals all members in the hunting party within visible distance (all hunters must be in the same area)
- Do not shoot a flashpod while a Monster is being mounted by another hunter.
- Pressing Options button skips the eating food animation and cutscenes
- You can shoot SOS signal to have hunters join your quest (sometimes not the brightest decision)
- Monster Hunter has one of the best gaming communities so if you need help - ask!
~Happy Hunting to all the new hunters!
You got your drinks mixed up
Lol this make me remember In MHGen/MHGU there are HotBlooded and ColdBlooded Skill, they increase your atk when you drink hot drink in hot area, and cold drink in cold are
@@MegaZero-X1 Thanks a lot! I've totally overlooked while typing it, stupid me.. Now it's fixed!
No problem just had to point it out
s6ef4enko life powder has a fixed range, that can be extended with the wide range skill. it doesn’t cover whole areas.
Focus more on self-preservation then damage output. Seen too many new players swinging wildly at a monster and getting carted immediately. You can't deal damage from camp, so avoid carting at all costs.
I started with dual blades since I figured they would be mobile, and I am not disappointed!
Even worse: so many missions only let you cart a couple times before you fail automatically. Focus on staying alive!
Great point 😂
Best skills for those having trouble staying alive:
Stun Resist 3 - Stuns are basically a death sentence. Most common cause of death in my experience.
Speed Eating 2 - Getting hit again before/while you drink a health potion is the second most common cause of death.
Health Boost 2 to 3 - This turns some oneshot deaths into twoshots, which you can recover from with Speed Eating.

You can also access the Training Area straight from the world map like you suggested for getting to your Private Room. One less loading screen.
Umm you forgetting this is pretty much for PC lol
@@TheDragonfriday, OK, so? You know you can use a controller for PC, right?
Some tips that I’ve acquired (PC player here, but likely applicable to PS4 as well):
- At the provisions center, when you sell items, you don’t have to search for your trade-in items (the items that have no use outside of being sold).
Here’s a few tips for newer players:
Play the game however you please too.

@@fnyan3308 now down newbies as our Lord and savior vets show us the way.
for my survival set, i always have : Health Boost 3, Steadfast 3 and Divine blessing 3. So many times have i been saved by this. :)
30 tips for beginners...
Step 1: become a hunting horn main.
Step 2-30: farm honey and blue mushroom.
And bitterbugs
Why
Why
TheDwarfishjoe why
Thank you!
Unless I am facing powerful foes like fatalis, I always eat chef choice n I’m hr n mr 999 lol
i miss the time when i was a new player in MHW and Iceborne. those feeling that i get when hunted Anjanath & Beotodus for the first time :O
that fish just wouldn’t die lol
Ha

That monster is so annoying but flash pods work well against it
Played a ton when the game first came out, rejoining for iceborne and found this a great refresher. Thanks!
Keep trying for 3rd cause MH4U is an unforgettable experience
I'm new and glad people are still making content for this game
This was extremely helpful thank you
Welcome! Have fun!
Literally just started on PC yesterday! Absolutely this gave some really helpful insight on where to even begin and how to get started. Thanks man!
Brand new player here, thanks a lot for this awesome guide! This level of detail for those little tricks is excellent 👍🏻

If you have defense down you can eat adamant seed to remove it. A lot of players I’ve played with haven’t done this so I’m just letting you guys know just in case.
this was very helpful. i did not know i could reorganize my item bar. and thanks for showing me how to access the item loadout menue.
1. Pick the weapon you like most (the most comfortable for you), not the best one (the one you watched on youtube)
2. Get some rest after a few hours playing.
3. You'll die a lot, sometimes in the most ridiculous way, get used to it, it's totally normal.
4. Don't skip Grandma cat cooking animation, it could make your stress disappear.
I rewatched this after coming back to play MHW for the first time in a year or so. Very beneficial as a refresher.
One Tip i'd add for new players is pay attention to the environments.
Some areas have breakable environment parts like boulder drops and these deal good damage and also make the monster fall, leaving them open for attacks. (:
Just started to play this game. This video has helped me get my head around a few things. Think im a little late to the game as there dont seem to be many people on here to help with sos flares or group with on missions.
there is it's just they feel like not helping if the monster your fighting seemed weak to them in their own experience.
I just started a week ago, working through the base game now with my switch axe. That and the hammer are my favorites so far. Feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, but I’m having fun and this video helped!
Both are super satisfying! Find some nice inclines to slide down with the hammer and get your spin on!
Kind of a late post, but it is important to know the difference in rolls between sharp and blunt weapons. One is great for breaking faces, and armor, and the such, while sharp/bladed weapons are good for removing tails. And how some useful drops can only regularly be acquired through breaking certain parts
Watched this for my friend getting into mhw sucked at explaining it but you did great and taught me some things also great content

@@Outlaw7263 Hmm, that's actually a pretty smart way to deal with his gigantic meteor attacks.
Another tips to know if your monster is weak enough for capture is to notice if they start dropping pierce pod (the red slinger ammo). This gets complicated when you factor in the clutch claw but generally, if they drop them naturally, they are close to death.
I actually did only start last month but im not a huge fan of the defender armor, almost feels a bit cheaty. I ended up just not using it whatsoever
RisingMooon respect
I did the same thing. Took too much away from the core loop of the game.
I only used it because i already done almost everything for monster hunter on ps4.
@@darkanite759 yeah that's fair, that seems pretty much like it's intended use
I only used it to blast through low rank on my new character (Beaten the main story like six times now on secondary characters while doing everything on my main). Once you get to high rank, it's obsolete almost immediately. Yes, it has good skills, but you are gonna wanna get mix sets for master rank.
New to the game and found this video very helpful, subscribed 🤙
I knew about you from the plagiarism thing but I didn’t really watch your content. Very informative, very direct, and lots personality. I liked the patching in the human hand jokes
Returning player started iceborne yesterday. Great video for newcomers to the game.
Thanks for this, I bought Iceborne after taking a break for over a year and was so lost amd frustrated.
I have played the game for many, many hours, however do very much believe in always trying to find out new things to help even veterans improve and I want to say this video was amazing! So many smaller things I had no idea about like the item box load outs. Thank you for the info.
So I'm thinking about getting into Iceborne. Good to know that I need a new college degree XD.
I'm new to the game and still have a lot to learn. This video will help me out a lot! Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Defender gear has been a timesaver. I recently lost my saved data on PS4 (it was my fault) and have been rushing through the og campaign so I can finally play Iceborne!!!
A perfect utilization of the Defender Gear. Enjoy!
@@BoomstickGaming you have no idea how happy I was when I found out I didn't have to fight Elder Kirin HR50 again. Finally maded to ICEBORNE !! 🤟
this might be the best guide out in YT, good job man!
Been waiting for one like this much thanks
Welcome
I really enjoyed the video .I just started about 1 week and a half ago and im very hooked on the gameplay. All of these tips were awesom and the comments below were sooo helpful.Thank you for the video.
Was on the fence about giving this video a like. Then that third arm joke got me!
Big thumb decision!
Negative. If you save decos on a specific build and then switch to a secondary saved build, it uses the saved armor piece w/crit eye
No. Switching between saved sets absolutely switches decos, too... provided you didn't accidentally sell one you need.
Voldebutt 100% disagree. Anyone invested into the game will learn these tools with or without one armor set
The Guardian Equipment WILL encourage bad behaviour like this, with a super tanky armour set with a weapon that you need not use any other weapon from any tree, meaning you dont need to grind anything in the base game, i guarantee we will see triple the amount of inexperienced players on PC in the end game content, best we can do is help them, or laugh at them....or hell, even applaud them for getting as far as they did playing the way they do xD
With over 5mill players on PC, you are bound to find bad players, but another million going through the game using this gear? oof, its gonna be a wild ride.
Good luck!
Graigory Rogers ooooh! Okay. I don’t have Icebourne yet.
Another very usefull video, keep it up Boomstick!
Thanks!
Downloading this game right now for the very first time. After watching this im even more excited to play it!
Have fun!
Yeah, don't use the defender armour, it's going to ruin your experience and you're not going to learn to properly play your weapons of choice.
Defender armor is absolute garbage in high rank missions, only op in low rank missions.
Defender armor is for people that want to finished the story. That is why it exist.
I'm using it on my second save
As a new player, thank you very much for this. It has helped me a lot. :)
2:48 holy shit i had no idea I could do that
I started playing this game almost 2 weeks ago and I have to admit that this video is literally THE BEST updated newbie guide I've found yet.
Series vet here, but just got into Iceborne and I found so many good tips I didn't realize I could do, like sorting your item bar (thank gooood!) or speeding up the quest selection menu (you're a legend!)
Thanks for the great info!
Thank you for this refresher. I’ve played through PC MHW and loved it. But I haven’t played it for 6 months.(ty capcom for that brilliant decision *sarcasm*) now I’m beginning to remember everything and will be a little less rusty come iceborne PC.
Welcome!
Same bro
Just got into the game and this was probably the best video I've seen so far. Super informative without making me feel lost or overwhelmed! Will definitely be watching this again to absorb more of it as I progress, thanks!
Loved the video, it’s so odd that the game itself doesn’t explain a lot of these things.
Returning from a year plus hiatus to play iceborne and this really helped me catch back up to speed, great work.
Multiplayer tip: ALWAYS sport at least one level of Flinch Free. It negates microstuns from your longsword-wielding teammates.
I'm picking up this game this week and thank you for this video. It will help alot
Thank you
Thank YOU
You have a new subscriber! I'm pretty much brand new to Monster Hunter and I'm loving it so far. This guide really helped, thank you!
